Would it help if you had a BB Code Profile Template that already has the formatting done?

Moderately. I've used a few of those. Should be quicker now that I have home net instead of using my phone. I'll get a sheet together asap. Thank you.

This covers most of it. I'll do gear and skills if I get chosen, but simply put, given his low intelligence, I'll max out Perception/Intimidate/Acrobatics and add Knowledge (Geography) and Artistry for his background skills - he quietly paints to calm the inner anger, and has lived in the Stolen lands a bit. I swapped Pioneer for Bastard (if it's allowed - it says human only, but Tieflings are descended from humans, and if horns, wings, and a tail aren't a good enough reason for a noble to throw a baby into the woods with her commoner mom, I sure as hell don't know what is!) If you're not cool with that I can switch to Pioneer and get the bonus to perception.

Karlak isn't about subtlety. He's the kind of guy who will straight up deck in the face a guard he sees being abusive to someone, even if there's a dozen other guards watching. He's loyal to a fault, if he thinks someone is his friend, but he's so used to being called a freak or monster, he doesn't seem to have many. His mother always told him the bandits were "bad men" and that it was the job of the strong to protect the weak...and he does so, but....really, really viciously, and in really, really bloody ways. He's prone to internal monologue more than talking. (Italics FTW!) He likes foxes and has painted dozens of pictures of them, and he's not entirely sure why they relax him. He has a ravenous appetite for all kinds of food, especially charred meat.

@Rednal is it even worth me trying for Skill and knowledge monkey now?

My character, if chosen, does have the Knowledge skills covered pretty darn well - this is a part of getting new spirits to bind, actually - but they do not have the same expertise in other skill areas. There would definitely still be a place for a Skill Monkey.

(It probably helps that my character is flexible enough to simply not do what other people are doing - so if someone wants to be a Skill Monkey, I can simply avoid picking skill-focused Spirits and do other things instead. XD)

Well... Kingmaker doesn't have a lot of traps, anc what else are Skill monkeyed expected to do (other than disarm traps, and knowledge skills)
I was thinking if getting Deification Obedience (Irori), which should cover any skill difference.
Note: Shouldn't

Pass for Human: Discrimination against tieflings with horrifically fiendish features is so intense that even tieflings look up to those precious few of their kind who can pass as human. These tieflings have otherworldly features that are so subtle, they aren’t often noticed unless the tiefling points them out (for example, eyes that flash red in the throes of passion, or fingernails that are naturally hard and pointed). Such a tiefling doesn’t need to succeed at a Disguise check to appear to be human and count as humanoid(human) as well as outsider (native) for all purposes (such as humanoid-affecting spells like charm person or enlarge person). The tiefling does not automatically gain his associated outsider language (but may select it as a bonus language if his Intelligence score is high enough), and he may not select other racial traits that would grant him obviously fiendish features (such as the fiendish sprinter, maw or claw, prehensile tail, scaled skin, or vestigial wings alternate racial traits). This ability alters the tiefling’s type, subtype, and languages.

Soul Seer Rare tieflings have a peculiar sight that allows them to see the state of a creature’s soul. They can use deathwatch at will as spell-like ability..
Darkvision: Tieflings can see perfectly in the dark for up to 60 feet.
Fiendish Resistance: Tieflings have cold resistance 5, electricity resistance 5, and fire resistance 5.
Skilled: Tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Bluff and Stealth checks.

1. Character build with stats, alias not necessary at this time.
Working on it.

2. Who would play your character in the film version?
I don't really watch much tv…

3. Writing Sample 1: Tell me why you decided to submit this character (i.e. I love a rogue who wears rouge, never played sorcerer before, think a druid influencing a new realm would be fun, etc.)

I submitted this character because I have wanted to play a investigator for a while but have never gotten to.

4. Writing Sample 2: Give me a short character background - hometown, dreams, family, etc. This should be a taste of who the character is - leave me wanting to know more! But keep it short, more than 5-6 sentences is probably too long.

^not sure if I did this right. It doesn't really tell much about the character, more it is just part of his backstory.

I think I'm going to withdraw. My decision is based on 3 factors.
1. My character completely done (equipment is a pain)
2. My backstory done.
3. My main role I was building for was taken over by other builds that are more balanced.

Rednal
Once I have chosen the party, we will talk about things like that. I intend to allow characters the opportunity to recover sanity without resorting to magic or spending 2

Samual Warren
I agree we should add Agile Maneuvers to the list of free feats.

The Vagrant Erudite
I’m not going to worry if you don’t have everything down. Get the important stuff (abilities, saves, skills, AC, hp, attacks, feats). Don’t worry about format, just use something reasonably logical and structured (Rednal’s template is very nice – thanks!). And no, I don’t care how many pieces of chalk your character has, or how much three candles weigh. :)

Submissions are due by Sunday, Oct 1st!

As usual, please let me know if you have any questions.

*crossing fingers*

Here is Szemyan. Crunch is mostly done. Still have to choose the spells for the spellbook and buy mundane gear. Still have lots of cash so i plan to buy a horse.

Who would play your character in the film version? Hmmm... maybe a young Bill Nighy. Or Adrien Brody. Benedict Cumberbatch would work too. Whoever it is would have to be tall and lanky, and a bit sickly-looking.

Tell me why you decided to submit this character?
A few reasons.
1. Never played a Magus before, and when I saw the bladebound archetype I was immediately reminded of the Elric stories. Which means I know that the character isn't that original but I think it's a neat idea I'd like to try.
2. Kingmaker games typically have a lot of competition for Charisma-based characters as everyone wants to be king. I figured I would submit a character that would make a terrible ruler.
3. Since the elder mythos has a lot of stuff regarding personal sanity and character psyche, I thought playing a mixed-up and strangely haunted character would be good for that kind of game.

Give me a short character background - hometown, dreams, family, etc. This should be a taste of who the character is - leave me wanting to know more! But keep it short, more than 5-6 sentences is probably too long.
Szemyan was born to human noble parents in eastern Brevoy. He was always different that other children, being unnaturally pale and sickly, and he did not socialize well or take to other children his own age. He was raised as a recluse and had troubled dreams, until one day he ran away from home for reasons even he could not understand.

Following his compulsion he found an old crypt where he discovered a strange black sword. When he took up the sword his mind was flooded with images of another life long ago, one that was wrongfully cut short by... someone Szemyan could not name. Somehow he knew that this was his life. He blacked out.

When he awoke, he knew that he had to study the way of the sword, and went to Restov, to train among the Aldori. But he still had no idea where to go from there, so when he heard about the charter to explore the stolen lands, he applied to join, mainly as a way of keeping himself occupied until his true destiny was revealed to him.

About Szemyan's Build
Szemyan is a DEX-based Magus and won't do the kind of damage that STR builds do. He will be fairly light on damage, using spells like chill touch and shocking grasp when he needs a damage boost. But he will also have decent debuff spells at his disposal.

Out of combat Szemyan is decent at identifying magic items and has a good intimidate skill. He has Ride as I thought that was fitting for someone of noble birth. Other than that though his skills aren't that great. The Magus selection of class skills is a little weak. But with a good DEX he could potentially be stealthy if he needs to be.

I'm going to reenter.

1-You said I didn't have to get this completely done.
2-Worked on it some more.
3-Stupid reason. (ONLY OFFENDING MYSELF)

Take two.
Shargoth was raised in a small church to irori near the stolen lands. It was hard for him, he didn't want to do violence, yet he had this inner voice whispering to him, offering violence as a solution, often in gory and cruel ways.

He dreams of one day conquering his inner voice, of reaching a state of peace where he no longer had this compulsion for cruelty.
One day as he was walking back from the markets he saw a notice-board for adventurers travelling into the stolen lands. Realising that this would be his best chance to curb his inner voice he hurried back, told the head-priestess he was leaving on a quest of self perfection and signed up.

Thanks; I don't mind getting into that minutiae of detail, just not until I've been chosen. I think all the big stuff is in there - and much of the little, frankly. Do let me know if you need more.

Here's JDPhipp's full submission, complete with answered questions.

1. Who would play your character in the film version?

Charlie Cox. More specifically, Charlie Cox from Daredevil; he has a certain unnerving quality to him in that show, like an aura of intensity that he puts out at all times. It doesn't really come across in normal pictures of him, though.

2. Why did you decide to submit this character?

The first iteration of this character was actually from a Kingmaker game that died before we left the Trading Post... or before we finished the combat, really. I also played a similar concept in a Golarion Apocalypse, but that game also died before I really had time to play him at all. I feel like Kingmaker is an amazingly fitting game for a Gray Gardener—not only with the possibility of being a force behind the throne, but just geographically as well—so I really wanted to give him another shot.

3. Give me a short character background

Samuel was born in Galt and like many, was a victim of the constant political turmoil. His father died in one of the many civil wars, and his mother died from illness. He survived as a thief on the streets until he caught the attention of a Gray Gardener tracking down an enemy of the state; he was viewed as a potential candidate and brought into the fold. While he embraced his new life as a recruit in their secretive organization—and a new inductee into the cult of Norgorber—he eventually learned that those they executed were never really investigated for guilt. They used the populace to keep themselves in power via execution, and he eventually fled north to escape the country. Ending up in Brevoy, he pledged himself to the service of House Surtova to find some time to prepare defenses against his former brothers who would no doubt track him down. When an expedition into the Stolen Lands was planned, he volunteered his services to keep track of the expedition and aid them in clearing out the bandits in the Greenbelt.

Selection Questions:

Is the character appropriate for the AP and story?

I think this character is well suited for the AP, especially in terms of kingdom roles. He's basically tailor-made to be the Royal Assassin/Spymaster, and he'll take a very unique approach to solving problems that might not be considered palatable to good-aligned characters. I fully intend to discuss things OOC to make sure they're alright before I do them, but Samuel is certainly willing to do more than most.

Is the character well-rounded, and able to contribute in multiple facets of play (combat, diplomacy, etc)?

In combat, Samuel is going to focus on intimidating foes. He'll take feats to maximize the effectiveness of having foes be shaken—things like Cornugon Smash to intimidate easier, Hurtful for an extra attack, Shatter Defenses to make Sneak Attacks easier—and taking a detour for Redirect Attack.

Out of combat, Samuel has a lot of roles. He can function as a scout with high Stealth, Perception, and Disable Device. He's also capable with social skills so he can function as a party face, and his Survival will help with wilderness survival. He'll have some Knowledge skills later on as well. My spells will be a mix of combat-oriented and thematic for a Gray Gardener, with things like Detect Thoughts being must picks. I intend to take some teamwork feats that will do more than help in combat; for instance, I'm planning to take Bonded Mind to be able to communicate with people on a one-way basis. That will be more useful with any and all city-related encounters, but I think it'll be fun and thematic.

Am I interested in seeing this character grow and develop?

I hope so? I think he has a lot of potential. When we start building a kingdom he'll have a lot of stuff to do, and I think he'll be a good foil to other players in that regard. He'll have a harder edge and be willing to do more to protect the kingdom from its enemies. I think my later plans of taking Leadership to gain an informant network will also be interesting. Also, watching him grow into his own in being a sort of hidden figure behind the throne sounds like a lot of fun. I want him to feel unnerving but still loyal to the party, very much a situation of 'The devil you know versus the devil you don't. Once the party realized he's evil, I'm hoping it'll be late enough in the game that in-character the others will have bonded with him and will realize his worth to the party and overlook his... potentially troubling alignment.

Will this character work well with others I've selected?

Unless you pick a Paladin, I don't forsee any real problems. My character wants to work with the others and doesn't intend on betrayal, so as long as they aren't physically barred from working with evil characters it'll be fine. In fact, I plan for him to be almost unbelievably helpful to the other characters to garner their trust to keep him safe. While he does have selfish motives for their friendship, those selfish motives still entail keeping them alive and himself in their good graces.

Sapiens here with a Ghost Sovereign Soul Weaver, since a ghost kingdom sounds exceptional with Elder Kingmaker.
I have to shop and register the free feats, but the main crunch should be here.

Who would play your character in the film version?
Summer Glau as she was in Firefly, waifish and unnerving.

Why did you decide to submit this character?
Margarice was the name of a villain from a cherished campaign I mastered years ago, and I've been wanting to bring her back.
And I've long wanted to make a creepy character. Between "soft" necromancy (this class has ghostlike servants) and Alteration Sphere fleshwarping, she'll grow up to walk the fine line between the usual and the eldritch horror.

Give me a short character background
That a stray kid is placed on the stairs of a church is a known story. Less common is for an infant to be found in a graveyard; Margarice was found at winter's solstice, laying on a nameless grave in a Rostland cemetery, by a Priest of Pharasma who was investigating rumors of a ghost infestation. And as he found the spirits, he found the infant, sleeping on the cold marble, wisps and other ghostly presences lying around her.
Her childhood was hard: the Pharasmin refused to deal with a kid so shrouded in necromantic energy, and a traveling priestess of Desna took her in; when the priestess was burned at the stake as a witch, Margarice had to learn to fend for herself, hiding her budding powers, lest she ended up on the pyre as well. But soon enough, her necromantic magic slipped out of control, in a healing flash, a scornful assault, or an uncanny fleshwarping, and then she had to run away. Until she saw a charter for a fiefdom in the River Kingdoms: there she could make a place where she wouldn't be persecuted.

Selection questions:

Is the character appropriate for the AP and story?
I believe so. She's high on Charisma and creepyness

Is the character well-rounded, and able to contribute in multiple facets of play (combat, diplomacy, etc)?
Yes, especially in a few levels. Soul Weavers have a lot of utility with the bound souls mechanics, if I could pick Rituals I'd add utility casting, and I have lovely Diplomacy and UMD.

Am I interested in seeing this character grow and develop?
You judge it. But she has room for growth, from the scared girl who was hunted as a witch to a proud landholder.

[b]Will this character work well with others I've selected?[b]
It will depend. She'll do some business with death, souls and alteration that could be seen unfavorably by a superstitious barbarian, a "suffer not a witch to live" paladin or a cleric of Pharasma. But generally, she can round up any team, adding support, buffs and debuffs, and if she could come to trust someone, it would be personal growth.

Take two

Selection questions:

Is the character appropriate for the AP and story?
Yes, he would do well in the royal treasurer position. I believe the position is not one commonly aimed for, so he shouldn't be stepping on anyone's toes. Ultimately he is more a follower than a leader, and is probably far too curious for his own good.

Is the character well-rounded, and able to contribute in multiple facets of play (combat, diplomacy, etc)?
Yes. Getting 13 skill ranks a level does that for you. while not as good in combat as a barbarian would be, he is still able to contribute substantially. Outside of combat he will be able to contribute in almost everything.

Am I interested in seeing this character grow and develop?
I don't know. His main personal development will be getting his head out of books

Will this character work well with others I've selected?
It depends on who you have selected. If a certain combination of others is selected my character becomes completely invalidated. Ignoring this though they should work well with any others.

It might just be me, but I'm not sure why these submission questions are being answered. If I missed somewhere where the GM asked for it, by all means, I feel kinda dumb, but if I'm not mistaken, these are questions the GM asks themselves about submissions.

On a related note, when, specifically, does recruitment end? If it's "as soon as Oct 1 begins", I won't be able to get a submission in, but if it's "by the end of the first," I can definitely finish up what I need to.

Presenting Mama Cas for your consideration.

Who would play your character?:

Mama Cas would have to be created much like Yoda was in the newer Star Wars movies. Her size would be near impossible for anyone. I imagine her voiced as Anna Hathaway or even Marion Cotillard.

Writing Sample I:

I plan on exploring a few different areas with this character. First, Counterspelling. Arcanist gives a few nice abilities to actually make counterspelling work. Second, Kingmaker's prolonged calendar means communing with spirits and gods, fortune telling, and predicting the future, omens and signs and what not could all be very foreboding. With the introduction of the Dark Tapestry and the Great Old Ones, her personal battle with dark spirits and powers beyond her control could be epic at later levels.

Mama Cas is a motherly type of character, sort of a Yoda type but without the actual physical combat skills. She'll be all force-type powers through magic. She'll also be a bit of a know-it-all and have numerous knowledge skills covered. In combat, she'll rely on summoning creatures as well as both offensive and defensive spells.

Writing Sample II:

Mama Cas is a seer, but she could not stop the death of her own family. Since then she has devoted the rest of her life to reading portents and prophecies. She believes that what is coming to the Greenbelt could change the world and she is traveling there to make sure it is for the better. She has seen the face of a new king and she knows that they need guidance and direction. She has no desire to rule, only to offer advice when desired and counsel when needed.

No. You are right. I did them mostly to assure myself that I had a equal chance of getting in.

Information is in the profile.

Similar with mine. I posted the information, but the profile has much more background detail.

I've been quiet for a few days, just thought I'd chime in.

Good luck to everyone!

Thanks for all the great submissions. I appreciate everyone who spent time creating a character, and as usual, I expect to have some difficult decisions.

Unfortunately, my day has become quite busy, and I don't expect to have a party selected until tomorrow night at the earliest, and possibly not until Tuesday. Apologies for the delay, I'll of course post here as soon as I've selected a group.

Goog luck!!!!!

Indeed. GL all!

silent anticipation intesnifies

Good Luck all

Liberty's Edge

Luck? Oh, how can it be luck to be dragged again, kicking and screaming, into the gaping maws of the unknown? To face what is beyond mortal reason, a twisting and maddening spiral of despair that eats and gnaws and bites and crunches and howls pale as a thousand shivers shake the ground, the Worm, the Worm comes unconquered unknowable unstoppable, all is despair all is lost and found but not the same- Iä! Shub-Niggurath!

@GM: Incidentally, if you're having a tough time deciding, you may find it helpful to try this process.

Spoiler:
First, make a list of all the submissions, with a few quick notes on each.

Next, get rid of any submissions you know you aren't going to take. (People who look unbalanced, or didn't do their submission right, etc.)

Then pick the single submission you like the most.

Finally, build the rest of the party around that first member, aiming for a good balance in the group.

This was, by far, the most difficult selection process I've ever had. In general, the submissions were some of the best I've seen, and I regret that I cannot invite everyone to play.

Here is the group I have chosen in no particular order:
Gideon Carter (Doomed Hero)
Mama Cas (Nickadeamous)
Szemyan (Peet)
Andelis Rovena (Gwahir777)
Leo Mac Tire Billeen (Chapel Ty'El)
Karlak the Blooded (The Vagrant Erudite)
Lemnis Recinsier (Entymal)

Selected characters, please say 'hello' in the discussion thread (located here).

Congratulations all! That's quite a lineup, and I hope y'all have plenty of fun losing your minds!

I'll have this guy finished up and ready to go by tomorrow. Well, today technically, cause in my time zone it just turned 12:01...and thanks!

Should've known better then to submit a Kobold. Alright, good luck.

Back to game searching.

Aww, oh well. I knew I was taking my chances submitting an evil character. Best of luck to the rest of you.

Ah well. Congrats to those chosen, have fun!

Good Luck!
