Background:

Points that capture the concept:
1. Lemnis has a penchant for wordplay and dry wit. He appreciates riddles and clever solutions, even when they work against him. He is insatiably curious and if time allows he will dally in libraries, museums, or consignment shops.
2. He is a little impatient with things that fall outside of his immediate interests, which is why knowledge and blasting are his two main foci. The one clears the way for the other, while the other improves the one.
3. While he fears for his own safety and takes actions accordingly, he dislikes injustice and suffering. He especially has a soft spot for children. He doesn’t like to feel like he’s being manipulated and will often walk out on a hard sell on principle, unless the deal is really, really good.
4. He believes in fair dealings with those who deal fairly with him, but those who threaten him arouse his anger. Swift destruction, physical or otherwise, is called for in such circumstances.
5. He tries to maintain a strict self control. He will seldom indulge in drinking, drugs, or anything else that impairs his mind. Tavern games and other crowded entertainments are best observed from the sidelines, where he has freedom to act or withdraw as seems best.
Goals:
1. Lemnis would like to find and clear an area to build his own stronghold. The idea of a wizard tower has some appeal, and if it can be built over a ley line or nexus, all the better. He could run a business or found a small settlement for like minded, scholarly folk who don’t like the big cities.
Secrets:
1. Lemnis is actually very fearful, almost paranoid. This is why he focuses on attack magic and knowledge. The more he knows, the less there is to fear and the better able he is to counter threats. A dead threat is no threat at all.
2. Lemnis was falsely accused of a violent crime against a friend and colleague after a training accident at an archaeological site. His friend was injured when a monolith fell on him while they were moving it. He accused Lemnis of assault and attempted murder. In fact, his friend’s carelessness had been responsible for the accident. He had pulled it over on himself. It could just as well have gone the other way and injured Lemnis. The investigation lasted for several years, as the aggressive prosecution was more interested in a victory than determining the truth. The case was eventually dismissed as inconclusive, but Lemnis’s career had by this time been ruined and he had been publicly shamed. People who heard of his tale expressed sympathy to his face, but whispered behind his back that there must be something to it to have gone on so long. He had to learn to keep this secret, but so much had been public record and so much had changed. His best friend had turned against him and brought all this to pass. This was his real reason for leaving Kyonin. The Thassalonian studies are really just an offshoot of his basic curiosity and desire for lore. This continues to haunt him and riddle him with self-doubt and makes it difficult for him to trust others. He doesn’t like to talk about it.
3. What he doesn’t know is that the church took exception to some of the lore he had uncovered. He had been about to discover something they wanted to keep secret. They had been watching for an opportunity to dissuade him and when the accident occurred with his friend, it was a simple matter to encourage an intense and unfair trial without revealing their true motives.
3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc.
1. Auric Recinsier: Lemnis’s father impressed upon him the value of speaking truthfully and putting forth his best effort. He was a jewelsmith in Kyonin who prepared the basic masterwork items that others would enchant, so he understood that any laxity in the quality of work could have disastrous consequences for others down the line. It is from him that Lemnis got most of the values that define his character.
2. Tianna Umberfeur: Lemnis’s only former love. She was his councilor and defense attorney during the trial. She seemed to be the only person who would stand with him and believe in his innocence. She offered him the support he needed when he could barely carry on. As a result, they became close. Her work and their relationship would not permit her to leave Kyonin with him, and he could not bring himself to stay. In the end, she married another.
3. Brynnan Oberfin: His former friend who was injured in training never got over the insult. He was stuck with paying for the cost of cures and restorations and he had to endure the disfigurement until it was complete. That Lemnis was able to get away without having to pay for anything and avoid conviction never sat well with him. He was delayed in his training as a result of the accident, so he didn’t finish until well after Lemnis and his other peers. He will not forgive Lemnis for the pain, the cost in time and gold, or for getting away with it. One day, he’ll make Lemnis pay for it.
Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission.
1. Lemnis still remembers his first books of riddles. From time to time they come to mind and cause him to smile for no reason apparent to others.
2. He also remembers the feeling of shock, that stunned emptiness, when his friend accused him of attempted murder. All those days spent before a judge answering for nonsensical accusations as the prosecution kept inventing reasons to continue the trial.
3. He well remembers his first prestidigitations. The delight of children at his minor tricks, and the befuddled looks on his siblings faces as they tried to understand how he performed them, not yet knowing of his budding talent with magic. That joy, shared by each for different reasons, is the true power of magic.
fear or paranoia.
As a result of the trial that so changed his life, Lemnis fears legitimate authority. He no longer has trust for the system, believing that it is incapable of discerning truth and serves only to assign blame. He shies away from law enforcement and other government officials.
