I'm running two PBP games currently, my Skull & shackles game has started the 3rd book, with two of the original players even! My Iron Gods game is just closing in one the end of the first book.

I've run Kingmaker for my live group and enjoyed it a lot, so I've decided to run it again on PBP, inspired by the many great additions people have posted for it here.

I like a fast game, with a post a day minimum, though weekends are a bit slower naturally. I prefer characters with a personality that shows through in their role playing. Rather than those where the weirdest combo of Race/Class/Archetype is considered an interesting character.

The crunchie bits.:

Minimum 4 characters. Maximum 6.
20 point buy.
All Paizo classes and races are accepted. Though if it's really exotic or out of place you are going to have to sell it to me.
No 3PP.
No Evil alignments.
I am adding new parts so previous experience isn't a problem.
Maximum HP's and gold for your class.
1 or 2 paragraphs telling me about your character
2 traits, one campaign, one of your choice. No drawbacks!

Any questions or clarifications just ask.

It will close on 17/09/17. (Sep 17th)

Dotting because I'm super interested in getting into a Kingmaker campaign AND one of my games just ended (completed! a rarity for pbp!).

Dot. Never played Kingmaker!

I'm currently GMing Kingmaker, but I've tried several times to play, with a number of characters. Each time, either I have things come up in my life (deaths in the family, usually) or the GM disappears. I'd love to give it another shot, though.

This is Serafina. She's an archetypeless archer ranger. Hoping the background will carry it instead of an overly interesting build.

I know the feeling, I belong to a small group and we switch the GM role with each AP. So I've played many of the AP's, but the ones I've run are the ones I want to play the most. :)

Dotting for interest.

Uh, I've applied to this several times and this could be the one! Will try to have a nice background in a pair of days.

Awwwww, dang. That "no 3pp" is a bit disappointing (I've had this idea for a "druidic" magus for a little while now using Spheres of Power that would fit really well in Kingmaker) but I'll see what I can come up with.

Dot.

Background skills?

Sovereign Court

I would love to finish this one. Applied to 5 now and all folded in shortest time.
I apply with a human cavalier. Just adapt him to your game.

Hi! I ran a PbP Kingmaker (but for long-time, real life friends) and we had just started book 2 before life got in the way and killed our momentum. So, I know the story behind the AP. I'd still like to play. I even have a Google Drive Kingdom Building spreadsheet that I designed that we could use. I would like to play this arcanist, but he isn't built according to the character creation rules above, and his background is still written for a homebrew campaign I've submitted him to in the past.

If the fact that I've GMed this campaign doesn't disqualify me, I'll re-build the character and adapt the background as appropriate, at which point I'll officially submit him for your consideration.

Having GMed a PbP campaign (although not on Paizo boards) and having played in various campaigns on the Paizo boards, I am familiar with the routine and I understand the importance of keeping posting momentum going, and I understand it's the responsibility of both the GM and the players. Please let me know if the GMing thing doesn't disqualify me!

@Dodekatheon. Well spotted, yes to background skills, I like them.

@Andoste. No, as I said previous experience isn't a problem, I'm going through all the extras people have supplied so it's not going to be vanilla Kingmaker.

No crunch or fluff yet, but I'm working on a wizard of sorts who I hope to submit later this week. A dwarven evoker or an overly superstitious halfling abjurer .. hrm, the next post will be a fleshed out character ;)

Cool I'll get something up later.

GM_DBH wrote:

Right, sorry. I read that, but I assumed you were only referring to playing (not GMing) for some reason.

Quote:

Even better! Will submit soon.

Dotting. :)

I'll admit, every time I play Kingmaker on these boards, something's come up to cause the game to end prematurely. Let's hope this time will be different.

Dotting.

I am in a Kingmaker game but I tend to apply to others because I intend to run my own game eventually and am farming the boards for ideas.

I have two character concepts already made that would probably work:

Elena Voritzova is a changeling cleric of Erastil. I'd have to redo the crunch for this game. Her stats are amazing because she was submitted to a game with rolled stats, and was generated at 2nd level as a replacement, so background includes a connection to Jhod Kavken which would have to be removed. Mechanically she is tricky because she fights with a long bow which takes a lot of feats to make work.

The other one is Szemyan. Szemyan is not quite finished but basically he is a Samsaran magus. Since Samsarans are the product of a spirit being reincarnated I build his concept around the idea that he was born to half-elven parents. He is the reincarnation of a lord who was defeated by some enemy and wants revenge... but Szemyan doesn't know who. Probably it would end up being one of the BBEGs.

Szemyan is more feasible mechanically but will still be fairly weak at low level.

Dotting for interest.

Background and crunch for a Halfling Bard (Detective) attached from a prior aborted game - may require a revision or two. Thanks.

I've got a concept but don't know how well I'll be able to make it work. DM, are you cool with combining the Eldritch Scion and Bladebound archetypes? The one issue is that they both alter the Arcane Pool, but I think they could combine fairly easily. Basically I'd go with the Eldritch Scion ability, Eldritch Pool, and have the Bladebound archetype reduce that to 1/3 of my Level instead of 1/2.

Thoughts?

Dotting, maybe a telekinetic

Dark Archive

Dotting.

I have a Cavalier that I love that was made for a Kingmaker that ended before the first book, and I'd love to dust her off. Will run through her stat block and make sure everything makes sense and submit when it all looks good.

Kingmaker is a game I have always wanted to play, but always have difficulty making a character when it comes time to do so.

Dot

Dot for interest.
Have a bloodrager concept I've been considering, and should have a character complete for you soon.

I have been absent from the messageboards for, oh, about 3 years.

I want to try to get back into this process.

This is the character I would like to use, obviously I need to reduce him 1 level, drop a trait and drop the drawback. I'm thinking you would prefer if I dropped down to one campaign trait?

An advantage for you is that the information linked form this alias includes examples of how I used to post, so you can get a very good idea of what to expect from me. Scanning back through that material, I see that one group was at a frenzied pace where one reply a day would not have been able to keep up.

I can't play from work . . ..

I will look to make those changes over the next few days.

Background:
As a lad, Colwyn’s father brought the family into the River Kingdoms as he served in the retinue of a would-be warlord. The nascent fiefdom, founded between Loric Fells and the Emberbough Forest, managed to last a few months before being destroyed. A tribe of trolls brought wholesale slaughter upon the settlement, with Colwyn’s mother and the short-reigning warlord both among the dead. The father and son fled eastward to Pitax. Within two years, however, they incurred the fickle wrath of the city-state’s King Irrovetti, and the pair had to flee yet again, this time into the Stolen Lands.

In that lawless land, his father eked out an existence as a hunter, occasionally turning to poaching across the border with Brevoy. Not long after Colwyn grew into manhood, his father was fatally mauled by a bear. Trying to follow in his old man’s footsteps, Colwyn discovered that he was a terrible hunter. He regularly failed to take down large game and only managed to survive by trapping squirrels and rabbits.

Growing desperate, Colwyn realized he had a greater talent for preying upon people and soon turned to banditry. He justified it for himself as being little different than his father’s poaching, necessary for their survival. Colwyn quickly threw his lot in with a band of robbers for greater safety and bigger hauls. Nevertheless, he knew that banditry had the same long-term prospects as his father’s old, doomed endeavors, so Colwyn began setting aside a nest egg for himself. Impatient, he soon took to embezzling from his fellow bandits to hasten the growth of his “retirement fund.”

His comrades noticed the missing money, and suspicion soon fell upon Colwyn. Rather than killing him, though, they had a better idea. After getting him drunk, they tied up Colwyn and, posing as bounty hunters, turned him over to the Brevic authorities, claiming he was the leader of the bandit gang. The Swordlords soon imprisoned Colwyn “the Toad” Orlack, who had earned a bandit moniker as much for his homely appearance as for his reputation of jumping out to ambush travellers.

Not infamous enough to warrant an outright execution, Colwyn languished in prison for a few years. One day, though, he was approached by a representative of the Swordlords. His crimes would be pardoned if he swore an oath of service and acted as a guide for an expedition to be mounted into his old haunt, the Stolen Lands. Colwyn quickly agreed.

He recovered one of his stashes that his former allies had not plundered and prepared for the expedition. Unlike the other party members enlisted to explore the Greenbelt, he would not be paid for his service, receiving only his freedom and his life. Still looking for a score to retire on, Colwyn hopes to find enough treasure to provide the comfortable life that always eluded him. However, his troubles have taught him lessons in loyalty, and he has no plans to betray or steal from his new allies. All the same, Colwyn the Toad understands that they may not trust a former bandit, and he accepts that he may once again have to look out for his own skin in the Stolen Lands.

Appearance and Mannerisms:
Colwyn the Toad did not earn his nickname by being a dashing young swain. His dark hair is balding, but his eyebrows and especially his sideburns remain bushy. Once overweight, a starvation diet in prison left him with saggy, loose jowls that reinforce his nickname. He likes to remind people that the name originally came from his “clever technique,” in his words, of laying behind a felled tree left across a trail and springing out to surprise travellers. He often mutters, with a low growl, how he should have been called Colwyn the Elk or Colwyn the Stag.

He’s grown to hate the taste of rabbit and squirrel, which he often subsisted on both as a failed hunter and bandit. He savors good venison, though, calling it the “taste of victory,” since he very rarely managed to bring down a deer. While he’s vowed not to steal from allies again, he is not quick to trust and keeps a close eye on his own possessions.

Spending so much of his life in the company of misery, he’s developed a penchant for schadenfreude. While he is not cruel enough to inflict suffering on others, he is amused when it doesn’t happen to him.

He absolutely hates trolls, not just for his mother’s death but as the source of all the misfortunes in his life. For even minor, inconsequential setbacks, Colwyn’s been heard to mutter “damn trolls” as his go-to curse.

I hope you like my submission. I originally created this character for another Kingmaker campaign but was not accepted, so I hope it's okay that I've edited him for this campaign. Please let me know what you think.

@Dodekatheon. No to combining Archetypes. Pick one.

@The Pale King. Kingmaker does look like a wilderness game, and it is at first, but does become both a tactical and a political game as you grow more powerful. All classes can shine and contribute.

@Josef Orlesky. Yes, only two traits, one being the campaign trait.

Darn. Okay I'll figure something out.

if all the characters are bards, we could form a rock band

Planning on submitting a cleric (devout pilgrim) of Desna.

I am considering a Feyspeaker Druid, seems like a great character for taming the wilderness, but creating a kingdom that doesn't destroy it.

I'm new to the Paizo forums and still pretty noob at Pathfinder (but I do know generally how PbP works), but if you're fine with that I'd love to apply! Currently thinking about a Lebeda noble, starting out briefly as a ranger but going into sorcerer and eventually dragon disciple.

@GM-DBH
I am definitely interested. Currently running the AP myself, with a bit of a detour through the Emerald Spire and adventures based off the PC's backgrounds but see that's not a dealbreaker.

1)-I have a slightly odd idea for a Vigilante character. Basically for the first while just do exploring and things in the Social identity but once the kingdom is established they don't generally publicly go out with the other PCs to do more exploring but the Vigilante Persona is a bit of a Zorro type figure who mysteriously appears when danger threatens. If the game went on long enough and you'd be alright with me taking leadership I'd have a Vigilante Cohort with the same Persona for to help conceal my character's identity, have the masked hero seen publicly near my guy kind of thing! I have loads of other ideas but quite like this concept.

2)-Are you sticking purely with the Kingmaker Kingdom building rules or the Ultimate Campaign ones? Or the third party one by the same writer put out by Legendary Games?

I will be using the Ultimate campaign Kingdom building rules. As I've said this isn't going to be vanilla Kingmaker. There is going to be a lot more political intrigue mixed in.

I always thought a new kingdom growing so close to Brevoy would have attracted a lot more attention, from the Surtovas at a minimum anyway.

In the campaign I'm running the PCs have gone to the Outlaw Council. After the meetings there they started considering sending supplies (build points) to help Tymon against Razmiran but ended up sending those supplies to Mendev to help with the Worldwound. This has led to the PCs in my Wrath of the Righteous game periodically getting care packages of potions.

I'll start working on the Vigilante. There is an Archetype to do with Brevoy in Heroes of the High Court. Here it is http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/slayer/archetypes/butterfly- blade-slayer-archetype/dragonscale-loyalist-vigilante-archetype/ though it's been categorized weirdly on the SRD. It's a little too tied to Survota, I can give him a background reason as to why he might be more distrustful of them if thats ok with you. Him keen to keep it out of Brevoy's internal politics if that sounds ok? Or is it a bit too close.

Yes, not too closely tied to the Surtova would work better. A lot of the neighboring countries are also going to be watching the new land with interest. More than watching in some cases. :)

d20pfsrd.com isn't allowed to directly reference Golarion-specific property because it's not Open Game Content. They can still reference the archetype, but they strip any nation names from it, in this case.

I am used to that like Aldori gets dropped from Dueling Sword. Look at the link classes[fine]/hybrid-classes[it's base]/slayer[wait what?]/archetypes/butterfly- blade-slayer-archetype[this has gone terribly wrong]/dragonscale-loyalist-vigilante-archetype[well we got their eventually... I guess]

Hi, Jereru here presenting Tomas Ducek, a swashbuckler. He was in another Kingmaker game that died soon after the first pages, I hope you don't mind. Maybe the background is a bit extensive, but I had it done and didn't feel like wiping it; it can be read easily, me thinks, so I decided to leave it (just change what wasn't due).

I'm officially submitting this character for this campaign. Aside from the stuff I've already said that I've quoted above, I'd like to add a little bit about myself: I've been playing since 1st edition D&D (barely), GMing since 2nd edition, and have been involved in a number of related, continuous PbPs since... dang, since 2006. Those aren't on this board, but I am involved in a few other PbPs on this board. I'm pretty laid back about the rules as a player, and I enjoy playing flawed characters that aren't supposed to be taken too seriously.

Let me know if there are any questions, and good luck to everyone!

I am most interested in joining, since Kingmaker was one of the first APs I looked at.

I'm going to get started creating a human Paladin of Iomedae angling to become an Aldori Swordlord. Born a bastard of the Khavortorov family, she was sent to Iomedae's temple in New Stetven, but after disagreeing with her fellow sword sisters about the legitimacy of Surtova rule, she traveled to Restov to attend the Aldori school.

Richard Harmon-Human (Chellish)- Vigilante (Dragonscale Loyalist)

”Background:

Richard Harmon originates from a noble house in Mivon with it’s origin stretching back to pre Brevic Restov. His maternal grandmother was a member of House Lebeda. He journeyed to Restov to negotiate a trade deal involving his cousins but while there he met a mysterious and alluring woman. Latanya led a double life as a Dragonscale Loyalist and recruited Richard into the group. Being a follower of Aroden the idea of helping keep the country from falling into anarchy appealed to him even if he had reservations about both House Surtova and the missing Rogarvias.

When Latanya died under suspicious circumstances Richard tracked down the criminals who had killed Latanya and killed their leader in a duel after disposing of the rest of the gang. As blood welled in the man’s mouth he taunted the Vigilante that it may have been his blades that killed the woman but it was someone far more important in the hierarchy of the country who set it up. With no leads Richard began to suspect abandoned his persona of Silver Scale and became “Crimson Claw”. It’s been several months with no success but he suspects someone in House Surtova used Latanya as an expendable catspaw and removed her.

Bonus Round Conspiracy Theory: Doesn’t believe Aroden is dead. Also suspects the overnight disappearance of the Rogarvia Royal family even though decades later might be connected.

Whenever you take 10 on Handle Animal, Knowledge (nature), Perception, Ride, or Survival checks, treat the result as if you had rolled a 13 instead of a 10.
Arodenite Historian (Arcane Anthology pg. 10)
You believe there is much useful information to glean from the mark Aroden left on history, and learn all you can about his exploits and teachings. This has given you significant insights on how different kinds of information are interconnected.
