I felt that things were growing stale, and pushed combat along. I will have a tendency to do this, but I won't skip your turn, just delay you and you can act twice the next round. I won't delay you twice in a row, at that point I will bot you or skip you.
Speaking of-- Rai and Ike-- PLEASE enter at least one roll (your normal attack) into the spreadsheet. Ike, you STILL should get your vital stats line up properly like everyone else. Been over a week now, don't get the GM upset or you will have a herd of elk headed your way. The reason I am concerned is that this game will require a good amount of micromanaging (when we get to Kingdom Building and Mass Combat), and I need players who can do that.

Ichorius "Ike" Melfesh |

Sorry, guys, I know I'm slowing down a bit with this. RL keeps dragging me away and the game is going faster than I'm used to. Gimme a bit and I can get the vital stats line up. And I'll locate the spreadsheet and fix the missing roll.

Arlen Graytale |

It's all right, Ike! We just love your oozy antics and want to keep seeing them! XD
Also, Diceros, I sure hope you didn't miss with a 21. :) If so, we're in for some trouble with these astoundingly tough elks.

GM Mustache |

Something to consider... from the interwebs: "A bull elk can get as heavy as 725 pounds (give or take), and a cow can weight as much as 500 pounds. Whitetail deer, on the other hand, are much smaller, with bucks weighing upwards of 150 pounds, and does weighing upwards of 100 pounds."
So you think hitting a deer with your car is bad, imagine hitting something that is 4 times as big. It is basically dinosaur sized.

hmmm, I swear that 21 was like a 5 the first time I rolled it??? am i just seeing things or did something change?
also, I'm stupid because I readied a "calm animal" spell just for this kind of thing, but I kept figuring that the elk would run as soon as they saw us. Was there a roll which dictated the panic and attack rather than fleeing?
I'm having a bit of a disconnect, I guess, in what I expect from "normal life" --how I expect people and animals to act, and the gamey-ness of Pathfinder.

GM Mustache |

Thanks Ike! And I don't mean to come down too hard on you guys. Here is the thing, I am in a lot of PBP games and most of them are failures. The GM needs to set expectations hard at the beginning, and keep post rate up. Otherwise either he will lose interest or the players will lose interest. Almost every Kingmaker fails, so I'm pushing toward us to play in a manner where that doesn't happen. It is just human nature that if you forget about something for a few days, you are less likely to come back to it. So we all need to be consistent and dedicated. Hope you are all on board with the plans.
I am also in games where players think that every post has to be multiple paragraphs. That is not true at all. Sometimes a couple sentences are all that is needed, and then when you have the time, you can post something longer.
The spreadsheet is linked at the top of the page. (Kingmaker stats).

If you insert another roll in front of an original roll, it will change things. I've done that a lot and then it gets me all confused. Now I'm careful to always do new things at the bottom rather than inserting new rolls in the middle.
Ah ha! I did add the Handle Animal check up top because I was wondering if I needed to do that or not given I expected that maybe Pygmy could just attack since he was attacked himself. but then I decided to add it just in case.

Rules lawyers present... The elven curved blade that Rai uses. A great weapon. Probably OP, but thems the rules!
Rai is an elf, so that means the elven curved blade is a martial weapon for him. BUT, alchemists aren't proficient with martial weapons. So, am I correct in concluding that Rai has to take a -4 to-hit in using it?

Arlen Graytale |

Nice work, comrades! We showed those elk who's boss! We can hut them successfully while only sustaining major wounds! XD
Also, I'm really enjoying the whole librarian attempts woodcraft angle right now.

Arlen Graytale |

Ok, thanks! I don't have knowledge geography yet and history doesn't seem relevant at this point but I'm sure there will be opportunities for a better variety of my rolls.

GM Mustache |

Variety in your dice rolls would just make the RPing aspect of exploration more interesting. I will leave it to you to make the decision. Maybe the terrain you are exploring could also be taken into account. Swim, or climb skills could be a fun one to do by a river, or hills, or in a forest. Profession shepherding could be relevant in a wide open field.
You will see shortly how all of these skills matter.

![]() |

OK, I may change things up for RP purposes, but none of it matters for actual success, right? It's just getting "enough points" to discover certain things?
So I don't know if others are interested in skinning the elk...many of us don't have much survival skill I think? I think that Ike might try to dissolve one like last time.
Anyway, if no one else tries to skin the elk, Diceros would sit there all day and do them all rather than explore any further. If you all think he should, I'll edit my last post and do that first.

Arlen Graytale |

Probably better to roll in this case since I gave him fortune. He can roll twice and take the higher. He has a 75% chance to roll higher than a 10. I'm sure it will be fine either way though.

GM Mustache |

Hmmm... in this case let's not take a 10 on skinning. You get actual monetary benefit from it, so do straight up rolls.
Also-- Arlen, get ready to cry. Re-read the fortune hex... You can only cast it on any particular person or creature once every 24 hours. Don't worry about it for the skinning the elk. We will start doing it properly starting after that.

Arlen Graytale |

Oh right! Thanks. Totally missed that. It'll work a little better when I get cackle next level but that totally makes sense. It felt a little excessively useful.

What is the date in gameplay? My last good goodberries expire on the 6th...did they go poof?
who here does have healing besides Arlen? I've got a rhino with a minor wound and a druid 50% gone.

I've gone ahead and updated the kingmaker spreadsheet to account for selling the pelts and antlers, and splitting the money. This time we earned 70 gp each, with 8 remaining in the pool for the future. The only "outstanding" loot we've acquired and not claimed or sold is "some food" found on the bandits, and whatever rations we've created from the elk meat. If anyone wants to micromanage the food situation, you are more than welcome! I think as long as we've got some access to food, we're OK.
(for the record, I am keeping "make water" as one of my level 0 spells, and so we can assume we always have clean water available, as well as "spark" so we always have a fire, even in the rain.)
we've earned 130 gp each so far in all our travels. Some of us are keeping up with spending on the spreadsheet, and the gp values there are accurate. Some of us are (assuming) tracking it in our profiles, so I'll let you make sure it's accurate there.

![]() |

I'm not going to make you guys worry about food. It is purely a roleplaying issue in my considerations.
Did you split the money for the map too, Dicey?
Forgot the map! We'll add another 25 gp to my last tally.
That means, 95gp upon coming back to Oleg's, 155gp total. I'll update the sheet.

Arlen Graytale |

We should probably get a pony or two to carry Sigurd and Brokk'r. Very cheap. I see my gold in the sheet is automatically being updated (by Diceros?) when we get loot? Thanks a ton! I love that.
Oh and I'm all about that pace. So skipping camping RP is fine with me. No need to RP camping in the woods every single day. We still have plenty of fun opportunities to do it.

I won't always have the chance, but if I have time I'm happy to do it. If we do want to spend money as a group on something (and I agree with you on the ponies...GM may make them have ride skill though) ...I'll try to keep some gold in the pool and not split it all up, but if we run out we can always take a collection back.

![]() |

pony is 30gp each according to pcgen. we have 28gp in our party pool, but I can loan the pool the extra.
do we want more than 1?
does oleg have them "in stock"...?
will brokk'r suffer the indignation?

Arlen Graytale |

My pack mule, Mortimer, isn't too overloaded to carry Sigurd. Also, mules are better, IMO, and only cost 8 gp. We would need two riding saddles, which are 10 gp, as well. So how about we just get two saddles and a mule?
