Having left the cat in the care of the Blackwall Keep garrison, Carina's heart is filled with a mix of happiness and worry. Alessia was a skilled priestess, but even she would be hard-pressed to kill a Kyuss-spawn... she could only pray that she was safe.

Carina's eyes widen as she sees the corpse of Navius. "Oh my goodness..." She looks between Tanith and the body.

Guess your 'proper healing' wasn't enough to save you.

Astraden approaches the body, hoping to help the others determine what happened.

Carina:
Although Navius clearly bled to death from his injuries, Carina is able to find something in one of the neck wounds that doesn't belong there: A single dead Kyuss worm. The worm was killed by the knife, but it also seems that this is the wound that killed him.

Judging by the quantity of mostly-healed scabs and scars, it appears Navius had already been exposed to a lot of healing spells. Whatever happened, it was clearly a long battle.

"Hmm... Navius didn't go quietly." Carina stands up, carefully picking up the dead Kyuss worm with her dagger's blade. "From the looks of things, he ran afoul of a Kyuss-spawn... Fharlanghn preserve us, how many are running around out here?" She whispers the last few words, trying not to lose her composure again.

She shakes her head. "He's got a lot of mostly-healed scabs and scars--looks like he ran out of healing after a long fight. He tried to get the worm out with his dagger. Either that, or he opted for death before the worm could do anything else to him."

Can't say that I blame him...

Farrukh:
There were at least five humanoids here. One of them had something that dragged on the ground behind them—like a tail, but almost skeletal.

Definite signs of a long struggle confirm Carina's summation. In addition, Farrukh finds signs that a body—perhaps human—was lying down in the grass. It's not there anymore, but he finds a scrap of yellow cloth where it lay. Todrik, the fighter in Kullen's gang, always wore a fine yellow cloak.

Carina sheathes her dagger and starts wringing her hands together.

Oh, please be okay, Mom... please be okay... and I hope anyone else in Kullen's gang is okay too... I mean, they're pricks, certainly, but even they don't deserve being killed by worm-creatures...

Astraden reaches for Cuetzpalli's hand, giving him a light push of guidance.

Guidance. Nope, the one day I didn't have it prepared. It's just mundane guidance, then.

Also, how long is the walk from Blackwall Keep to Lambere?

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

Farrukh:
Of the forms that left, all seem to have headed in the same direction: Towards Lambere.

I think the course is pretty clear, but I'll wait until tomorrow to post—simply because I don't have much time right now.

Cuetzpalli helps Farrukh to examine the tracks and comes to the same conclusion as him, that Lambere is in danger. "Uh oh! That nice lady who gave us frogs might be in trouble. The spawn were heading right for Lambere. We'd better hurry!"

"Yeah, sure. That's a good idea," Cuetzpalli says, setting about the work immediately. As soon as they are close to town he stops to put the animal's armor back on.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

By the way, Carina, I forget to mention this, but the cat is the Garrison's mouser. He doesn't have an owner.

About twenty minutes later, Lambere comes within sight. Spiny begins growling, and Lynwerd shifts uneasily beneath Eben. The horse is not combat trained, and she gets more and more uneasy the closer the group gets.

DC 15 Handle Animal check to make her go to the edge. Otherwise, she stops about two hundred feet away.

Whether or not the horse is brought along, the sounds of battle quickly enter earshot of the party. As they hurry nearer, they see a grisly sight.

Lambere is in ruins. Several of the already ramshackle thatch huts have taken severe damage, as if something has hacked into them. Two of them seem to have been burned to the ground.

Several corpses—covered in dead worms—lie about the place, stuck full of arrows and what appear to be the odd spears used in hunting. One has been hacked in two. Unfortunately, these corpses closely resemble some of the citizens of Lambere the group dined with a few days ago.

In the distance (off the map), more buildings look deserted and damaged. Only the stone bunker-like building still looks intact.

Right before the party, a losing battle is being fought. Rastophan and Kullen (raging) are fighting against three Kyuss spawns. The undead look battered, but they're healing. Kullen and Rastophan look worse, and they're not. One of the undead is impossible to mistake: It's Todrik...or what remains of the murderous pit fighter.

Merovinn is lying on the ground, either unconscious or dead. His weasel familiar, Rascal, sits atop his head. It seems to be biting its master.

Everyone can make two Perception checks.

Perception 20:
Something's moving off to the southwest. Off by the big boulder that is not a statue of some demon. C'mon, guys, maps are hard to find.

Perception 25:
Something is crawling beneath the skin up Kullen's neck.

Inits (Monsters;Kullmerophan;PCs: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 131d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Spawns are up.

Round 1: (sorta)
Slams: 3d20 ⇒ (3, 19, 7) = 29
Damage on Kullen: 2d6 + 14 ⇒ (4, 2) + 14 = 20
Grabs on Kullen: 2d20 ⇒ (2, 13) = 15
The Todrikspawn and one other focus on flanking Kullen, taking advantage of his weak defense, while the other attacks Rastophan. Rastophan manages to dodge, but Kullen takes two brutal hits and gets tackled from behind. Two worms land on the berserking half-orc.

The party is up! You are all just barely offscreen—assume it takes no movement to get on the map. All combatants are considered flat-footed against you.

Also, make 3 Will saves vs fear, DC 15. If you fail any of them, you're panicked and compelled to flee at least sixty feet away from danger. Once there, you can act as normal (albeit shaken). This effect lasts for seven rounds. Feel free to spend Action Points—you're getting a refresh very soon.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

Oh, right, the map. One sec.

EDIT: It's up. The greenish-whitish box around Kullen and the Todrikspawn means they're grappling. You are all coming from the left side of the map.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

"Kullen's infected! It's worked its way up to his neck already, so we don't have much time here."

He rushes in, hoping his friends are close behind, and attacks the zombie nearest Rastophan, assuming Kullen is more able of taking care of himself, and may already be a lost cause in any case.

He slams his shield into the zombie, hoping to knock it away.

Bash: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Damage: 1d6 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 8 + (5, 6) = 25

And immediate action Favored Target if it hits.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

Ordinarily, yes, but you're threatened, so, sorry, no.

Thanks to the "zombie's" surprise, Farrukh is able to bash the creature in the side. It's not quite surprised enough to be knocked back, but the hit is nonetheless brutal, and it's left barely standing.

Actually, does your Favored Target-triggering attack get to include the bonus?

As the party approaches, Carina catches a glimpse of something to the southwest. "There's something to the southwest, too!" She calls out as Farrukh moves to engage.

The sight of the Kyuss-spawn fighting what's left of Kullen's gang distracts her from the sight of a worm under his skin, but after seeing one of the spawn bear down on him and send more worms onto the half-orc, she'd take Farrukh's word for it. After all, when did he ever lie to the team?

Will Save 1 (Shield Other?): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Will Save 2 (Shield Other?): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Will Save 3 (Shield Other?) *Action Point!*: 1d20 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + (4) = 15 OH! Just barely... although it would still be in character for her to have a panic attack at this point.

The sight of the worm-spawn, and what they've done to Todrik, bring back very, very bad memories. She can feel the worms falling on her skin, worming their way underneath and polluting her with their foul essence--

No. They need my help. I need to save them. I can't fail them now!

Carina swallows her fear, though it still affects her actions. If it weren't for Tanith's spell supporting her, it would have overwhelmed her.

Round 1: Actions
Move Action: Enter the battlefield
Standard Action: Throw a bomb at the most damaged spawn attacking Kullen. And let him eat the splash damage to get the worms off of him.

Carina moves onto the battlefield, pulling an explosive vial from her belt. "Sorry about this, Kullen, but you'll thank me later." She whispers as she throws it at the most wounded one...

Ranged Touch Attack (Bomb): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 +1 if PBS applies = 16
Damage: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 5, 6) + 3 = 15 +1 if PBS applies = 16

DC 15 Reflex Save from Kullen for half damage: 6 points if PBS doesn't apply, 7 points if it does.

And, by the way, is Farrukh's token on the proper side of the map? Because you said we're entering from the left and his token looks like it entered from the right.

Balls, accidentally hit another edit while I was typing. Yes, I get the Favored Target bonuses. Damage bonus explicitly, bit unclear on whether you retroactively add to the attack roll too.

I meant to add in a little prayer to Norebo for aid before I charged in, but somehow missed it. Just barely missed the edit window. =(

Farrukh closes his eyes for a brief moment in prayer before charging in.

"Norebo, if you're listening, we could use some help here. Please try to protect my friends from these worm things. Thanks."

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

I'd add it retroactively for bull rush purposes, though it still isn't enough. However, it doesn't really matter.

Farrukh's klar smashes into the creature's chest, creating a massive cavity and dropping it instantly.

I meant the other left.

Kullen Reflex (grappling): 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 - 2 = 13

Carina's bomb barely lands on target, despite the spawn's cover. It burns away Kullen's worms, but also burns away perhaps a bit too much of Kullen, and the half-orc appears to go unconscious. Rage ends instantly.

Astraden runs into the melee, drawing her rapier. She flicks its tip up to her mask, holding it out for Rastophan to see. A wave of healing energy courses through him and his allies. "Is there anyone else still left?" she asks the scrawny man.

Channel positive energy (healing): 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6) = 12 0/6

Cuetzpalli runs screaming like a little girl (again), and Spiny follows him, confused.

Seriously hoping the majority of the encounters in the rest of the AP aren't against Spawn, or Cuetzpalli will be totally useless. Even if I manage to make a will save (Ha!), Spiny can't attack them without getting covered in worms.

PS:As stated before, please roll saves for me to speed things along. It's a random number, it doesn't matter who generates it. I have to make the save no matter what, so you're not taking a choice from me or anything. Thanks.

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

Some PCs are better or worst against different enemies, Cuetz. Just as Tanith has (had) his low AC, Cuetzpalli has his low Will save and reliance on natural attacks. Everybody's got their heel. :P

Tanith strikes a deadly blow, barely managing to cut through the creature's chest and kill it. Juuuust confirmed, with cover. Astraden quickly rushes in and heals Rastophan, Kullen and Merovinn.

Round 1: Kullen Krew.

Merovinn's eyes shoot open, and he gives a scream. Rascal backs away, gripping a wriggling Kyuss worm in his teeth—the reason he had been biting his master, it seems.

Merovinn stumbles to his feet, swearing loudly. He seems to ready a spell, focusing on Kullen.

Kullen roars, restored—but now exhausted, his rage spent. He struggles to break free.
CMB: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 2 = 22

Surprisingly, the muscular half-orc manages to wrest away from the spawn. He clutches his temple. "G+@@~$n...it's inside my head!"

Rastophan's voice is ragged as he answers the priestess beside him. "Survivors been in the Brick—stone house. Viera's mother's about, looking for a kid."
Longsword;Shortsword: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 2 = 271d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 = 21
Crit?: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 2 = 27
Damage: 2d8 + 4 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 + (1) + 1 = 15

He swings viciously at what once was Todrik, hacking almost clean through an arm.

Round 2: Spawns.
1d2 ⇒ 1
Kullen gives a roar of pain and fear as the worm appears to go to work.

The spawns begin to mend again as they they strike back. Todrik eyes Astraden with utter hate, focusing on her.

Slams (Kullen;Astraden): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 2 = 131d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

Remarkably, both miss.

Suddenly, a scream sounds from where Carina heard movement.

Round 2: You are up!

Cuetzpalli can make another Will save.

"Carina! Think you can still try to cut it out of him? Farrukh! Think you can check out the noise?"

Astraden channels again, somehow drawing strength from some hidden chamber in her mind, and unleashes a burst of energy that tries to tear the remaining spawn to shreds.

Channel positive energy (harming): 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) = 12 2/8

She steps behind Rastophan, summoning her double.

4/6
Or if the spawn next to her just died, she runs towards the sound.

Round 2: Channel DC 17 positive energy (standard action), five-foot step (no action), and cast copycat (move action). Copycat lasts 6 rounds.

In case this one got fried by Astraden's channel, then these shots are against spawn-Todrik. In case he's fried too, nevermind, I'll come up with some other action.

Even on a successful save, Astraden kills it.

Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

One spawn is blasted to pieces by the force of Astraden's faith, while the other quakes and shivers, nearly overcome.

The fountain causes Eben's shot to barely miss. Note that these spawns, unlike the dead guard spawns, are unarmored. You missed by 1 point.

Tanith's blow, on the other hand, is pure, unashamed overkill. He splits the already near-death spawn clean in two.

Let's just say that was 21 points over what it could take.

Carina, Farrukh and Cuetzpalli are up. All nearby spawn are dead. I moved Astraden in accordance with her conditional.

Not sure where or how far away it is, so let me know if I still have actions soon.
