Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith nods silently as Carina explains the details of the statue.
"Should we take it with us?"
The big man studies the thing to determine its portability.

Erip |

Erip stage-whispers back, "Perhaps Spiny could carry it, if it's not too heavy? It could fetch a good price from my master."
He also examines the carvings on the wall he's walking along, keeping a (hyperopic) eye out for any hidden buttons or unusual seams. He runs his other hand through a repetitious series of gestures, whispering something under his breath.
Ready an action to cast disrupt undead on the first thing we meet that's not a party member.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

I think Spiny is only medium at these levels.
Suggested marching order: Cuet and Spiny | Tanith and Farrukh | Erip, Carina, and Robin
Tanith, oblivious of any potential danger, squats down and tries to lift the 'statue' from the base to test its weight.

Cuetzpalli |

Yes, Spiny is only medium. He's probably basically the same size/weight as Tanith (but with a long tail). If we're going to carry a big heavy statue, it'll be on the way out.

Dungeon Kobold |

Cast detect magic on all the artifacts. Just use as many of these as are necessary.
If there was ever any magic on this device, it's long gone now.
He also examines the carvings on the wall he's walking along, keeping a (hyperopic) eye out for any hidden buttons or unusual seams. He runs his other hand through a repetitious series of gestures, whispering something under his breath.
Make a Perception check.
Tanith attempts to lift the statue, but it appears to be a part of the floor--just a raised platform.
Fixed map...just in time to switch it. I didn't think that through, did I?
Will post the second half of this shortly.

Dungeon Kobold |

The central hallway opens into a large chamber with wings leading to the east and west. Across the chamber to the north yawns a twenty-foot-wide open arch draped from top to bottom in translucent spiderwebs. An eerie green light flickers from beyond the webs, casting strange shadows about this room.
The room smells of animal spoor and wet fur.
To the west, three short stairs lead to a wide marble dais, but the far end of the wing is obscured by darkness.
Huge slabs of cracked masonry and irregular piles of scattered debris choke the eastern wing, giving the appearance of complete collapse.
The sibilant, almost human whispers present in the passage become a chorus in this massive chamber, eerily echoing off the walls.
For those that made the check:

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith’s hulking frame swells with power as the big suel tries to lift the thing but a moment later, he dusts his hands off and shakes his head. ”It’s not good – it’s part of the floor or somethin’.”
Moving on, he frowns as the whispering grows louder. ”Is that the wind?”
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Erip |

Wall: Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 assuming unusual stonework, and with Lonsoc on shoulder
"Hmm, it looks like there are pipes under here making the whispering sound."
Gotta go to dinner but I'll catch up later!

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Can you link the map in the campaign summary so it’ll always be easy to find? Up where you have “Six brave strangers have come to the Whispering Cairn…”

Robin O'Haranson |

Went to roll, forgot to actually post. Ah, well, I failed anyway.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Robin follows the group in and attempts to think of a profound statement. "We appear to have encountered a noise." He pauses. "Well, it's the same noise. But it's louder." Good job.

Farrukh Al'Khatel |

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
"There's something talking down there it sounds like. I can't understand it though."
Marching order looks fine to me.

Dungeon Kobold |

To speed things up, I'll just roll for Erip: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 Carina: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 and Cuetzpalli;Spiny: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 201d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7.
Farrukh, Carina and Cuetzpalli are all not flat-footed.
Suddenly, some of the rubble in the east wing is sent flying to the side as four wolves run out.
Two of the wolves look half-starved, like they haven't eaten in days. Oddly, the third seems well-fed.
The fourth is unusually large, and it has an evil, almost intelligent light shining in its deep red eyes. It barks out something in an odd language.
Party Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Wolf Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Dungeon Kobold |

The two scrawny wolves charge at Farrukh. The third fatter wolf...
1d3 ⇒ 1
...goes after Spiny. The red-eyed wolf growls and follows her.
I noticed nobody actually seems to know Goblin, so I won't bother with the spoilers. :P
Scrawny Wolf Attacks: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damages: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 71d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Trip Attempts: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
The first latches onto Farrukh's arm, while the second nips at his leg. He barely manages to keep his footing.
Farrukh takes seven damage.
Fit Wolf Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
The fatter wolf wraps her teeth around Spiny's leg and yanks him off his feet.
Spiny takes two damage and is now prone.
The red-eyed wolf moves to stand between the fat wolf and Cuetzpalli. He attacks the Olman.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
However, the creature lets out a humanlike cry as it appears to lean too much on an injured paw, and its attack is wide off the mark. Cuetzpalli and the others notice that some of its fur has been burnt away recently, exposing raw skin.
Farrukh, Carina and Cuetzpalli can all act. This is a Surprise Round, so they can only take one move or standard action (with some exceptions for actions like Charge, as noted in the rules).

Carina Viera |

Surprise Round: Actions
Standard Action: Throw Bomb directly behind the two wolves attacking Farrukh
Carina gives a start as the wolves come bounding towards them, gnashing teeth and howling.
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
"Hey, the red-eyes over there's a worg!" She calls out.
Seeing the two wolves start chomping at Farrukh, she pulls out a vial filled with some kind of unstable substance, shakes it and throws it, aiming behind the wolves to hit them with splash damage.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
It hits its mark, going off with a loud *BANG!*
Wolves must make a Reflex Save at DC 14 for half damage: 4 damage if they fail.

Dungeon Kobold |

"Red-eyes?" the worg snarls. "You's one to talk, hellb#***!"
Reflex Saves: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 111d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
The wolves give high-pitched yelps as the flames scald them. One of them manages to avoid the worst of it, but the other is hit badly.

Farrukh Al'Khatel |

Accidentally deleted my post. Halp, pls.
Farrukh grimaces in pain and looks at the wolf that bit him.
"You. You are DONE." he says.
Declare Favored Target on that wolf. Bleed a little.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

”Worg? Or those the ones that breath fire or the ones that grant wishes?” Tanith asks as the melee erupts around him.

Dungeon Kobold |

Cuetzpalli can move, but Spiny is flat-footed.
Cuetzpalli swings his already-drawn terbutje at the worg in front of him.
Terbjutje (Power Attack, Furious Focus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
The barbed club smashes into the worg's back, eliciting a howl of pain.
End Surprise Round.
The worg staggers, then gives a shrill scream of rage and attacks again.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
It's not very effective.
The heavier wolf bites the prone Spiny mercilessly.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Note that Spiny takes a -4 to his AC for being prone, not to mention flat-footed. He takes 4 damage.
One of the wolves (not the one with Favored Target) rushes past Farrukh to attack the girl who burnt it.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Surprisingly, Carina is able to dodge its savage assault.
The other wolf keeps attacking Farrukh.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Trip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
This time, it manages to drag Farrukh to the ground as it grabs hold of his leg. He takes three damage.
The wolf attacking Carina has taken two damage, the wolf attacking Farrukh (and Favored) has taken four damage, and the worg has taken fourteen damage.
Meanwhile, Spiny has taken a total of six damage, counting last round.
You are up!

Dungeon Kobold |

Fixed the attack on Farrukh. Sorry, you know how it is--you make one little edit and suddenly the attacks all have different results.

Farrukh Al'Khatel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Farrukh grins falls flat on his ass with an "Oof" and but takes his sword in two hands, slashing hard from the ground.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Ooh Shiny Crit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Not confirmed, I think. Ah vell.
1d6 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Snicker-snack.
Edit: Ah, I'm hit. That's -4 to melee IIRC, but I think a 20 still hits it?

Dungeon Kobold |

Note the edit. No huge changes--even with the -4 from being prone, you still hit easily.
Farrukh slices up through the scrawny canine, his sword going straight through its stomach. The wolf doesn't make a sound as it dies.
In hindsight, I probably should have moved it to flank. Oh well. One wolf down.
Heh. Hindsight. Flank. I'm funny.

Carina Viera |

Round 1: Actions
Immediate Action: 5-foot step toward Tanith, away from Wolf attacking me
Standard Action: Throw Dagger at it!
Carina leaps away from the oncoming wolf, throwing her dagger at it. Might not have been the wisest option, but considering there were too many people around...
Thrown Dagger Attack!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 *Action Point Used!* + 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 19
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Dungeon Kobold |

The wolf yowls as the thrown knife grazes its arched back. It fixes Carina with a murderous glare.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith’s brawny frame wasn’t especially quick but once he started moving, it was with a visibly powerful grace. As Carina retreats a step to his side, the big suel rears back with his poleaxe and takes a mighty swing at the worg. "It talks?! You didn't say it talks."
Hack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Dungeon Kobold |

The worg gets cover from Cuetzpalli. You might want to move first.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Oh, I looked at the map briefly and thought the pony to the south was the worg. Fixed.

Dungeon Kobold |

I do not give My Little Pony avatars to dangerous, evil monsters. I reserve them for animal companions.
"Is that all you--"
Tanith leaps over and brings his polearm down on the worg, burying the axe in the creature's head. Its eyes bulge, then glaze over. It stumbles, held upright only by Tanith's weapon.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Pfft. That's what you want us to think.
With a flex of his powerful shoulders, Tanith wrenches his weapon free from the beast's skull. "Finish them off!"

Erip |

Round 1: Actions
Move action: Draw heavy pick
Free/Immediate action: Five-foot step to the east
Standard action: Aid Farrukh on AC (+2 to his AC next round if I hit AC 10)
Erip unstraps his heavy pick and steps up to the snarling wolf. He tries to block its jabs at Farrukh.
Heavy pick aid: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9
However, he mostly gets in the way.
Also, I think Robin's horse was staying outside!

Dungeon Kobold |

Well, Erip tries, bless his heart. And you're right about Bermy--Cow already pointed it out to me, and the map's been fixed.

Robin O'Haranson |

Robin looks on, nodding happily. "Splendid work, chaps! Keep at it!"
He pauses before stepping back and preparing his bow.
Longbow: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 = 19
Robin's feeling good today. He takes a deep breath and decides to treat it just like a hunt.
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
I haven't hunted in a while.

Dungeon Kobold |

Robin fires an arrow. It sticks in the beast's side, but doesn't stop it as it continues its advance on Carina.
Cuetzpalli moves to flank with his companion, swinging his terbutje again.
Terbutje PA: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
His swing goes wide.
Spiny scrabbles to his feet...
Wolf AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
...and proceeds to unleash his fury upon the one living target it can see: The wolf that knocked it down.
Bite (Power Attack): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
Claws (PA): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 91d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14
Bite Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
Bite Damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 3) + 12 = 20
Claw Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
The dinosaur rakes a claw down the wolf's side, then sinks his teeth into her chest. He shakes her viciously, and doesn't stop shaking.
That is one dead wolf.

Dungeon Kobold |

1d3 ⇒ 2
Round 2.
The last wolf looks around and, seeing where its rampage has taken it, gives a yelp of fright.
It turns and runs for it.
It's withdrawing, so only Erip gets an AoO on it (Robin doesn't threaten with his bow).
Erip AoO: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Erip actually manages to nick the beast with his pick, but not severely enough to bring it down. It scampers past Robin.
Just for the sake of completeness...Bermintrude AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
From outside the cave there comes a thump.
Combat over.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith rears back again, waiting for more wolves to attack. A moment later, when it becomes clear that the threat’s passed, he lowers his weapon and starts to slow his breathing. ”Har! That was a rush”, the big man laughs.
Seeing that a few of his companions were bleeding, he subdues his mirth. ”You gunna be alright? Those teeth were sharp.”

Carina Viera |

Carina breathes a sigh of relief as she retrieves her dagger from where it landed.
Looking up, she notices that Farrukh was badly injured during the fight. Without hesitation, she drops her backpack on the ground, fishing out what appears to be a healer's kit.
"Those look pretty bad, Farrukh. Tanith, could you perhaps do something for him?" She asks as she fiddles with her kit.

Farrukh Al'Khatel |

"I'm fine," Farrukh says. "Just a little massive blood loss is all."
He tries to get up and stumbles, but makes it to his feet.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

”I spose I can carry him”, Tanith offers as he scratches at his scruffy chin.
As a level 1 warpriest, Tanith’s healing is pretty limited. =(

Dungeon Kobold |

Between Tanith and Robin, you guys basically have three cures at your disposal.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Are you allowing the full options for action point usage (specifically the additional spell slots option)?

Robin O'Haranson |

Robin puts his bow back, frowns, and heads over to Farrukh. "I don't know much, old bean, but I'll do my best."
Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
He takes his hand off Farrukh. "That's the best I can do, I'm afraid."
He steps back and looks back outside at Bermintrude. "Shall we bring you in, then?

Dungeon Kobold |

Yes. I put up the d20 bonus because it's the most frequent usage, but you're allowed to use Action Points for anything on that list.
Bermintrude doesn't like the underground setting, but he's been well-trained, and he follows Robin down.
Where to now?

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Good to know! It looks like Robin took care of it already. =P

Dungeon Kobold |

As a reminder:
The north passage is covered in webs, through which filters a sickly green light.
The west wing leads to a wide marble dais, but it's too dark to see all the way to the other side.
The east wing is apparently not totally sealed off, so if you want to explore the wolf lair, you can.
Also, I'm really sick of having to type "ooc" and "/ooc" after every single paragraph. When are they gonna get that bug fixed?

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Assuming Farrukh is good to travel again, let's check out the wolf lair. Maybe the worg dragged something valuable in there.

Dungeon Kobold |

While open, the area in the eastern wing is still mostly blocked off. Everyone except Erip must get on their hands and knees to negotiate the rubble passage.
The den is rank with the smell of wild animals. Irregular piles of rubble litter the den, as do hundreds of bones and bone fragments from the wolves' past meals. Most of these belong to animals, but a few are unmistakeable human.
The north side of the den is only slightly more tidy, containing a big pile of old blankets and furs. There's about enough space in the unkempt bed for two wolves.
