It's acid damage, so most likely. As long as we coordinate a bit in-character, there's still plenty of squares to attack the troll from without being in the aura. Just need to train for stuff like that during any downtime. :)

Five foot step is a non-action, so you can, yes.

I thought the point was to set up, so when the call was given we could attack. That's what Zhad did.
If he was too far away, then he moved up during the surprise round, and will attack after initiative, I guess. If not, he 5' stepped and attacked. Your call.
