Ah whoops. Saw that post and immediately forgot it. Thank you for that. GM, do I keep that roll if I try to influence someone else, or do I roll again?
Always re-roll, please.
Walking into a probability situation with certainty obviates the need for dice.
=)
QM rainzax
On second thought, rolling the dice, then asking to "undo" them, seems disengenuous.
I'm going to keep all rolls, and add a 5th round.
Seems the best way forward.

After this Influence Encounter is done, you may immediately advance to 2nd level with one of these Free Archetypes and using the Wealth Table to set off with (Common rarity items). Any gifts / loot you recieved so far are in addition to this table's (choose) "itemized" or "lump sum".
Barlespin
So if we go with "lump sum" we get 30 gp instead of 15 gp ... so we can basically get another 15 gp worth of equipment going into level 2 (aside from whatever we got in game so far)?
QM rainzax
Option One: "Lump Sum"
Take the Lump Sum money and re-buy all of your equipment and new equipment up to that total. The "story" for how you acquired this equipment is up to you.
Optoin Two: "Itemized"
Take the Currency money and re-buy all of your equipment and new equipment up to that total, plus a number of leveled items according to the table. The "story" for how you acquired this equipment is up to you.
Then add any discovered items (gifts, loot) on top of either Option One or Option Two.
Does that answer your question?
QM rainzax
I'll use my "campaign coin" to let Marius reroll that natural 1 if he wants to.
I missed that post, woops!

Final note, in case it wasn't clear: The adventure holds the assumption that any spare rations ran out in the first few weeks of the six year hole up. So, equipment assumptions include 0 rations, and having to lean into that "wasteland survival" theme.

Rule question, as it will impact some possible purchase choices. The text of Exploit Vulnerability says:
Your unarmed and weapon Strikes activate the highest weakness you discovered with Exploit Vulnerability, even though the damage type your weapon deals doesn't change. This damage affects the target of your Exploit Vulnerability, as well as any other creatures of the exact same type, but not other creatures with the same weakness.
If I Strike with an Acid Flask alchemical bomb at, say, a cluster of zombies, my successful Strike would trigger the vitality weakness on the zombie I target for sure. Would the splash damage from my Strike also trigger the vitality weaknesses on those surrounding zombies?
QM rainzax
Good question.
Without research, I'm inclined to say yes.
Unless I am unaware of some clause concerning Weakness and Splash as mechanics.
Wait, Exploit Vulnerability targets a single creature, I think.
I think yes, IF those other zombies are the exact same type.

I just found out that as a Chirurgeon, I can use versatile vials to heal allies, and even throw them at a distance. However, an ally can only be healed this way once every ten minutes because of the Coagulant trait added to it.
Anyway, I am looking at the available archetypes. What will the others be taking? I might go for either Snarecrafter or Scrounger.
As for rations, leshies have Plant Nourishment, so that is one less thing to worry about. If there is no sunlight, they have the bottled sunlight formula, so they can at least make one every day.
At level 2, I might be getting the Inoculation skill feat. Given what just happened inside the Crypt, I expect more of them once we get outside.

Can Mal deliver us Jystolo!?
Malendyl Sarmaris

Sadly, no, can't seem to persuade him to help us.
I'm eyeing the Scout archetype, obviously. Though it would be fun to take Horizon Walker for even more movement speed. :P
For my regular level up, I'm thinking of taking Quick Draw, and becoming Expert in Religion. Don't wanna step on Marius's toes too much, but it is an important identification skill. :P
Barlespin
Yeah, I think you would only bring him over the line on a nat 20.
Marius Tanar
I'm currently planning to go with Lastwall Sentry w/ Marius. Very thematic and he can definitely make use of Reflexive Shield. I'll have a full level up decided today.
Barlespin
I am leaning toward Snarecrafter. As I'm adding it in Hero Lab, it is letting me add level 4 Snares into my formula book. The Craft action can only be used on things up to my level ... but I notice that the Snarecrafter Dedication doesn't explicitly say you can't learn higher-level formulas and doesn't specify the levels of snares crafted during daily prep, nor can I find any such limitation in the Formulas section.
GM ruling needed: Can a Level 2 Snarecrafter add Level 4 snares into their formula book and prepare them during their daily prep?
QM rainzax
Not until Level 4 unless “discovered” during an Adventure
Someone can maybe help with text search, but a general axiom is that Character Level and Item Level match for character building
Barlespin
Yeah, it feels like they just left out the "of your level or lower" from the text related to snares. The level limits for preparations are explicit in things like Advanced Alchemy, Quick Alchemy, and Talisman Dabbler Dedication.
But since I am limited to buying Level 2 items, I can't buy a Level 4 formula, so even if the rules would allow me to make one, I won't have them in my formula book ... which absolutely makes sense.
QM rainzax
How many days do folks need to Level Up?
Go ahead and start!
Next time we roll dice, you will be doing so as a L2 character.
Squishy Pumpkin Quaintly Rooted
I want to have a purifying spoon (tablespoon) as the level 1 item for itemized option. Like, Squishy acquired it from among the things Jystolo's mother left, perhaps?
QM rainzax
It's Common, so if you budget it, that's cool
Malendyl Sarmaris
|
That's a cool flavour item, Squishy! I was thinking of the boring regular +1 weapon and the like, but we might need survival stuff like this as well.
GM said we could flavour how we found our new stuff. I don't want to dominate the narrative too much, but how about we do a final raid on the surface now that we have found several combat-capable people, and then move out? That'd be a cool way to explain our new items, I think.
Barlespin
Given the GM's latest post, it sounds like running up to the surface isn't something we can do very easily. Also, we can assume that there was communal equipment down here (as well as the supplies of the deceased) which we would be going through and deciding what to keep/leave behind.
Also, a +1 weapon is a 2nd level item that costs 35 gold pieces, so I believe we can't get it at 2nd level from the amount we're allotted on the Wealth Table, I'm afraid, under either the "Itemized" or "Lump Sum" options.
Barlespin
Who wants to babysit the kid? Mechanically, it seems like the Watch Jystolo exploration activity would be best taken by someone who generally uses Perception for Initiative.
QM rainzax
There is also be a "Zombie Lookout" (wrong name) exploration activity - more concrete info on that later though...
Squishy Pumpkin Quaintly Rooted
Squishy can watch Jystolo, wanting to stay close to the youngster after what happened to his mother. They were just not sure how to approach the kid during the conversations with the other survivors, but they wanted to keep an eye on him. Perception +5 looks decent for this, I think.

Updated my character to level 2, but haven't bought items yet. Anyone know any good items for me? I was just thinking of a few healing potions and bombs, but if you have any good ideas, let me know!
You've got slashing/piercing/bludgeoning in melee covered, with agile/finesse weapons, so that's good. Maybe a sling in case you need a bludgeoning ranged attack.
Bombs don't have the agile or finesse traits, so if you're using a bomb then you're going to lose out on the option of your Sneak Attack bonus. This may not be an issue if we're facing a group of creatures that are immune to precision damage, of course, such as a swarm, where bombs would be helpful.
Holy water is always a good choice when expecting undead, since the splash damage won't hurt any allies.
Looking at non-combat gear:
* Unless I'm missing something on your profile, you do appear to be missing a set of thieves' tools
* Some replacement picks would be a good idea, too.
* You have the Quick Repair feat, but no repair toolkit (although I have one you can borrow)
* Grappling hook (or a full climbing kit) (again, I have one)

Wow, derp, totally missed the agile or finesse on thrown weapons as well, thanks. I just assumed I could sneak attack with them as long as they're off-guard, but apparently not. Thanks! I guess I'll pick up one or two just in case, but no sneak attack for me, then.
I picked up Quick Repair for my level up, but indeed, a kit is required.
Which makes me realise, I wanted Battle Medicine. Swapping out that feat.
Thanks for the other gear advice, good pickups I hadn't thought about!

Tracking Level Ups:
□) Barlespin (Just need Character Bar - still says Level 1)
□) Malendyl (Equipment: "Rations" should be set to "0" - ran out 6 years ago)
□) Marius (Shorting yourself a skill increase?)
□) Red (Equipment: "Rations" should be set to "0" - ran out 6 years ago)
□) Squishy (Equipment: "Rations" should be set to "0" - ran out 6 years ago)
Let's clean this up before embarking!

@QM rainzax: according to AON & Pathbuilder, Cleric doesn't get a skill increase at level 2. Don't have the book handy at the moment, but I imagine those sources are correct.

I'm picturing Squishy begging to be on scout duty for 6 years, since it's the only way he can get nourishment. I loved that in the backstory, the cook was sneaking extra rations to the one person who doesn't eat.

This actually makes a lot more sense! It didn’t even dawn on me that there’s that mechanical aspect to being a leshy until we were told we’d run out of rations. I like your take on it, fits perfectly. Maybe we can retcon it so that Squishy survives on bottled sunlight instead of food, or volunteering for every scouting duty just to “eat.”? And yeah, the idea of the cook secretly sneaking extra rations to the one person who doesn’t even need them still cracks me up.

Question: Any markings or anything on that key I got off the zombified cleric? Does it seem to be magical in any way? Any way to tell what it might be for?

I am a derp. I took Battle Medicine at level 1, so I don't need to swap.
Should have updated my character by now. Bought a repair kit and some alchemical bombs, nothing too exciting. I'm ready to go.

Non-magical key.
Constan Russi was originally second to Sir Nalleth Clearwater (devout male halfling cavalier of Iomedae 6), a knight entrusted with a state secret of the nation of Lastwall.
Whatever this secret might be, it is kept within a redwood chest hidden in Constan’s quarters. Constan wears a key to the chest around his neck.
As Constan’s second, the PC is entrusted with a copy of this key, but Constan has instructed the PC to open the chest only upon his death.
The PC has kept Constan’s secret the entire time the survivors have been in the crypts of Mordesha.

Do we get any benefits (that we know of) from the Survivor Benefits for the various companions?
Also, any chance that the dwarf blacksmith could transfer runes for us? (Worth a shot.)
