Kunala |
we are on our way to the temple not standing in the tavern. right?
Kunala saunters down the street appearing carefree, one hand on his hip, resting near his pistol; the other waving his silk hankie aimlessly.
Yes, Yes, your all right, or one of you is, or none of you are... Either way gentlemen if the priests give us a tool and we do not use it we can sell it... Also if we are in water at all, I would prefer saving my powder; that means I need an air tight container and I would like to purchase a weapon more suited for water, since I was not intending a swim when I left Cheliax. So shall we continue?

Kunala |
is there anyone selling weapons, I would like to buy a trident and I would like to buy four waterproof bags, the pfsrd has the trident at 15 gp and the bags at 5 sp each so 17 gp total, do we get the discount the counselor promised? I think we want to see what the priest will do for us, before we buy scrolls
Gentlemen shall we pick up the mundane Items that we need before we go to the temple?
Kunala at home in any market place immediately begins flattering the market vendors, as he searches for the items he needs.
diplomacy to get increased discount diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 = 14

Tamoq Swarmcaller |

Tamoq will buy two daggers and will take a few minutes to search around the shop for something that would suffice as a ratfolk tailblade. Tailblade.
Perception to find tailblade: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Total cost (if he finds the tailblade): 15 gp.

Helikon |

Trident in a place nowhere close to fish? 50%
1d100 ⇒ 22 YOu are lucky! Someone inherited it from his uncle.
Daggers 100% I guess you want small ones? 100%
1d100 ⇒ 76 You are lucky!
A tailblade? 20% Not so lucky. You get some dumb stares. But everyone can tell you, if someone can make something like that on the fly... it is Baine
1d100 ⇒ 100
Scroll Airbubble 20% You are lucky you find one scroll with one use. CL 1
1d100 ⇒ 11
BUT you are told in the Tonic store you might find potions.

Raffinyaler |

Raffinyaler will buy four more daggers while at the market (4 @ 2gp each = 8 gp) and two waterproof bags (2 @ 5 sp each = 1 gp). Character weight/gold/inventory has been adjusted at this time, but can be adjusted back if not found.
While looking at a few more daggers for himself, Raffinyaler notices that Tamoq appears to be looking for a specific item.
"Help you find something specific Tamoq? I've a few connections here in Torch that ought to be able to help."
Aid Another, Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Kimos Kousei |

Kimos gives a bit of advice before shopping for his own items.
"Take a close look at what your buying."
He goes off to find a single item, none of his items were truly endangered by water. Still they would not know what they would find.
Buying a small treasure chest, 3 gp. Waterproof bags only last 10 rounds underwater, so only buy if your a really fast swimmer as I doubt it's that short a swim. As I understand it 6 rounds is a minute. So if we need water breathing spells to get somewhere it's got to be more then that. ;)
Any word on the leg sheaths? So I can convert my wrist ones as they are currently useless. x)

Helikon |

How about you can draw booth weapons at once? As soon as you get a second one? But I would like to get your input in this situation, too!

Kunala |
@Kimos, thanks for the heads up, I was still thinking of old D&D terms of game rounds and combat rounds, a game round being 6 minutes. But the only term in the pfsrd for round as in combat round.
@ Helikon, with your permission sir, I would like to purchase a small treasure chest with my last 2 gp. along with the waterproof bags, the chest is 2 cubic foot so an 18 inch pistol, two powder horns, balls and a silk hankie would fit in it, inside the bags just in case.

Kimos Kousei |

That flaw gets erased at high levels and even at 3rd level if I get a SA. Even if I have to burn a move action to study that does not mean I can attack cause as I said I burn a move action, unless combat starts in melee range I won't be able to attack 1st round regardless of weapon drawn or not. That's why I had the shortbow drawn as soon as I suspected something was up, range is not effected by burning up a move action, most of the time anyways. I never suggested a spring loaded bow system which would give me a large advantage in a 1st round. As for drawing two weapons at once, even if I have a pair of spring sheaths I can't use them both at the same time, they burn a swift (I think) action. You only get one of those if I remember right. So once I get a second wakazashi that would be counter productive.
I did not want the sheaths so I could nuke things in one round. I wanted them more out of the fluff of him having hidden weapons and tricks not expected of a "hunter". Truth be told I would have liked to use the shortbow for most encounters until we met something really nasty. But that DR was too much to ignore so had to expose him on that front.
I am fine waiting on the leg sheaths and such if you want. Normally I use wrist sheaths for potions, wands, and alchy goodies to toss as needed. Sometimes daggers so they have something on hand for melee or short range, been disarmed in other games before. None of which, besides the dagger, I can currently afford and/or use at the moment. Like I said I only put in his weapon for fluff reasons as with a +1 BAB he can draw it for free as part of his move. Which in the last encounter is what he did and could have done without the wrist sheath.
The quick draw feat, if that's what your referring to, lets you draw weapons as a free action. It is not limited to certain weapons and uses a free action, which are unlimited unlike others. So it is far more exploitable. On a side note I never intended to get that feat, it's most effective for ranged types who make use of full round actions. Sense I am going for a two weapon style I rely less on full round actions.
In short I am good with your decision any way you choose. It effects fluff more then mechanics for me. But I won't deny having two weapons seemly appear in his hands or jump out of his knee's to be snatched out of mid air would not be interesting to pull off. xP
P.S. Sorry for the long post, just want to give a good response and such. Let me know if I was unclear about anything or forgot to address something.
At the risk of being a busy body, the small treasure chest goes for 3 gp. Price is different from normal chest because of becoming waterproof and reinforced etc etc.

Raffinyaler |

Helikon, do we know about how far underwater we're going to have to travel? If we don't know this, is there someone in town right now that we could ask?
Raffinyaler is going to buy two more waterproof bags and try to find a pair of swim fins.
Raffinyaler looks the bags over carefully, then grabs two more.
"Better safe than sorry, yeah? And much easier to carry than one of those great chests you're looking at."
Raffinyaler absentmindedly digs into a pocket, pulls out a small paper cylinder, and lights it with a tindertwig before puffing on it and exhaling clouds of blue smoke as he wanders off through the stalls muttering to himself.
"Now where are those foot finny thingies? I swore I saw some kids playing about in the river wearing them and swimming much better."

Helikon |

If you return to val she has prepared a box with a few items for you:
A Backpack of some strange light material = MW Backpack
A strange medkit with a button if you push it on someone while he is injured it will inject some fluid in the patient = MW Medkit (+4) 8 Charges
A travelers Anytool.
A waterproof bag.
some strange tubes that will shed light of bend = lightrod with 3x glowing distance 5 pieces
a piece of rope 60 feet weighing as much as 20 feet = a third weight.

Kunala |
Kunala looks around at the group, carrying there new items, and asks in his accented lisp
since it seems our shopping is done, shall we return to the tavern and then go to the temple? Or go to the scrapyard and then the temple? For my two coppers worth, I think Kimos is right
he nods to the slayer
I believe the priest will simply cast on us and we should probably be ready to leave from there, so if we want to go to the junkyard we should go there before the temple. Or after we return from the underground. Just my two coppers worth, but please lets drop our new packages off first at the tavern, and maybe eat a bit I'm quite famished
as they are walking back the general direction to the tavern, Kunala asks
Tamoq, did you find everything you need? If not Raffinyaler may know a craftsman who can make it, what do think Raffinyaler
also, hopefully we will bring Okrin with us, and go straight to the water after the temple, once we actually get adventuring would one of you scout types take the point?

Tamoq Swarmcaller |

"I am sufficiently content with the items that I found. It was a long-shot to find a tail-based weapon in such a... humanocentric town. If we have time later, I may commission one, but I am not going to fret over it at the moment."

Kunala |
After the party arrives at the tavern
Kunala sets his new items on the table near his pack, fanning himself with his Hankie, he asks in his accented lisp.
Val, dear child, did you or Okrin find any items or information that could be of use to us in our search for your dear lost father? Oh, and would it be asking too much for a quick bite before we head back off again? I am quite famished, shopping has that affect on me.
Kunala sits down, still fanning himself and asks the group.
Well gentlemen, straight to the temple and the underbelly of Torch? Or do we go to the junkyard first? I see no reason the junkyard cannot wait, but I would prefer someone more familiar with Garritt the Junkmaster make that decision. If he might have something that can be of use, let us go talk to him. If he truly only carries junk, I believe he can wait. What say you gentlemen?
As Kunala listens he begins integrating his new gear into his pack.

Elasbeth Evergreen |

So I made it in, awesome! Been very excited to play this series, has sounded quite fun. Am I assumed to have been here all along, or being introduced somehow?

Elasbeth Evergreen |

Think I see how to bring myself into this now so I will start it, if you have a different way to do it mr gm then I am fine with a retcon if needed.
Sitting to one side is a new arrival, a young woman is sitting alone not too far from where the rest of you are. She is an attractive half-elf wearing a a blue traveling dress, with a pack on the floor, her only weapon a single dagger. She is eating a meal and looks like she has only just arrived.
She manages to overhear that there is a missing person. She hesitates a moment and then seems to resolve herself to asking, "Did I hear you right? Are you looking for a missing person? If so I may be able to help, I know how to tend to injuries and have command of some magic. I would be happy to help if you needed it."

Kunala |
Kunala, jumping to his feet, tuning his leg, doffing his hat and bowing low says in his accented lisp.
Greetings young lady and welcome, I am Kunala, late of Cheliax, and the pleasure is all ours. We were preparing to go the temple for the assistance that the councilor promised they would provide. First we were going to eat a bit,
Kunala waves his silk hankie at the box of items that Val had brought into the room
and then divide up these interesting items that Val has been so kind to provide. After the temple we are headed to under the “blackhill”
everyone, please pick out anything that you want, what is left Kunala can carry he has about 30 lbs to spare and still be at medium load.

Raffinyaler |

Kunala, remember that if you take the MW backpack you count your Strength as one higher when determining carrying capacity which, for you right now, should be about an extra 10 lbs per encumbrance category. Raffinyaler is going to want to store his formula book in the waterproof bag (along with Elasbeth's spellbook probably). Since we have a 'healer' now, I don't think he's going to end up wanting to carry the medkit.
As Raffinyaler begins digging through the box, he casually tosses the waterproof bag towards his own gear, spends a few moments fiddling with the any-tool before discarding it and finally emerges with the rope tangled around his head and shoulders, holding the medkit in one hand. Excitedly, he turns towards Val,
"Val, is this one of those medkits like I think it is? And can you tell me how to figure how many uses it's got left?"
Raffinyaler takes a step towards her before the coils of rope slide down the rest of his body, tripping him and finally bringing Elasbeth into his view and attention.
"Oh, hello! Who are you and when'd you get here?" he says smiling before his face falls into a more serious expression, "Also, can someone untangle me please?"

Kunala |
@ Raffinyaler thanks for the reminder, I was waiting to see if someone else wanted to use it
Kunala watches Raffinyaler, chuckling he helps untangle the gnome
Be careful there my fine gnome
then picking up the travelers anytool, and puts it with his own gear. turning to Val he says.
and thank you Val for letting us use your fathers items, we promise to do all in our power to bring him back
I cannot use the water proof bag its length is 25cm. I picture the pistol at least 40 to 50 cm. long, I will double bag it in waterproof bags then put it in the small treasure chest. along with the two powder-horns, shot, flint and steel and whatever food I can jam in it.
team, please take what you want to carry, I can carry the rest if needs be.
@ Helikon, is there anything that needs to happen before we go to the temple. other than lunch of course :)

Kunala |
Khonnir Baine discovered the signs of unusual traffic on the banks of Weeping Pond, and shortly thereafter, the submerged tunnel that provides access to several heretofore unknown tunnels under Black Hill
the weeping pond is around 500 yards from the temples (using the map in the back of the Iron Gods Players Guide)lets get the gear sorted and head to the temple
after Kunala finishes his bacon and eggs he picks up his newly sorted pack, and asks in his accented lisp
Gentlemen and Lady and looking to Korba smiling and associates, what must we do to be on our way to the temple and then the weeping pond?

Kimos Kousei |

Once Kimos hears the duration of the priest spell. He goes over the information for a moment before speaking.
"Little less then three and a half hours then. As long as we keep track of time we can retreat in time to still make use of the spell. Depending on the travel time to and from the underwater entrance we may not even need to utilize the spell on the return trip. Still for the time being I would suggest a comfortable window with in the duration to exit the tunnels our first venture inside."

Elasbeth Evergreen |

Looking at the tangled up gnome and laughing just a moment, Elasbeth eats the last bite of her rations and come over to help untangle him as well, "That was a different greeting, you should be more careful you know. As for how I got in, was I not supposed to be in here? It was unlocked when I got here, I was too hungry to worry about why no one was here so I just sat down and ate some of my rations while I waited." Getting the gnome untangled, she offers each of those present her hand, "I'm Elasbeth, traveling mage, researcher of technology, and healer, at your service."
Seeing Kunala address the young woman as Val and mentioning bringing her father back, "I take it your father is the one missing? I will do all I can to help them bring him back to you, assuming they will accept my help of course. If so, is there anything I should know about where we are going?"

Kunala |
Kunala looks at the half-elf, waving his silk hankie about he replies in his accented lisp
Well Elasbeth three events of interest; the torch went out. Then Khonnir Baine discovered signs of unusual traffic on the banks of Weeping Pond and the submerged tunnel that provides access to tunnels under Black Hill. Then he failed to return from his second expedition a few days ago. We have agreed to find him. Well that’s the short of it.
he looks here square in the eye
Oh and a small matter of a 4,000 gold piece reward and a scroll to raise the dead if we bring him back alive,
Again, smiling and waving his hankie he finishes
please help yourself to any of these items, we will leave when everyone is ready
Turning to Kimos
friend Kimos, I believe your observation is correct, hopefully, we will be able to determine the difficulty of leaving when we see the lay of the land, or water, as it were
Tamoq or Kimos anything interest you? Whatever isn't claimed I will carry, I have the tool, Raff has the bag and the med kit so far

Elasbeth Evergreen |

Listening to Kunala's explanation intently and then looking through the items from the pack, "So, underwater for at least a short distance anyway, I need some way to protect my spell book, I have little else to worry about, I travel lightly as you ca...is that a healing kit?" She does a double take as she sees the kit, "I have never seen one like that before." Looking at Raffinyaler, "Could I see that kit a moment, I've never seen one with a button on it before."

Tamoq Swarmcaller |

"Hello my lady. I am Tamoq. This is my associate Korba. I look forward to working with you."
To the rest of the group: "Let's get moving. The sooner we complete the mission, the better."

Raffinyaler |

Raffinyaler hands Elasbeth the medkit then holds up the waterproof bag, his excitement visible through his body language as he speaks.
"Not a normal healer's kit! I think it's a medical kit of some kind, (maar ik ben niet bekend met de) technology involved so I'm not entirely (sicher. Wenn Sie es herausfinden können Sie) (gall gael ei. Hefyd, mae hyn yn) (wasserdichte Tasche Ich werde war meine Bücher in) but since there's space I guess you can use it too!"
"Not a normal healer's kit! I think it's a medical kit of some kind,
(but I'm not familiar with the)
technology involved so I'm not entirely
(sure. If you can figure it out you)
(can have it. Also, there's this)
(waterproof bag I was gonna put my books in)
but since there's space I guess you can use it too!"

Kunala |
Raffinyaler: water proof bag, Elasbeth: MW Medkit (+4) 8 charges, Kunala: MW Backpack. Travelers anytool, lightrods (3xglowing distance)@5, (60 feet rope 1/3 weight) any of the items Kunala has can be used by anyone. He has packed his pistol away in preparation for the water
Kunala finishes setting his pack, leaving his old one behind, testing the weight of the trident, he says in his accented lisp.
That’s the spirit Tamoq, lead on and we will follow
As the party follows the two rodents out the door Kunala asks Kimos
I believe you and Tamoq will need to do most of the scouting work, his vision should be fine in the dark without these holding out the lightrods do you want to take them so you have them at hand?

Elasbeth Evergreen |

Yeah, should have been Hallit, corrected it, thanks for catching that, gnome is the only of those I don't have, should probably grab draconic too at some point. Only part I don't translate I can likely piece together.
Taking the kit very carefully, Jessica turns it over and examines it, "Fascinating, healing technology is of particular interest to me. Have you made any study of such things? If you have I would love to discuss it with you sometime. I appreciate the offer of the bag space and I will take you up on it. You might want to keep the kit in there too for now, it would probably be safer until we are done with the underwater portion of our trip," Jessica carefully hands the kit back to him for the time being.

Kunala |
At the temple the priest tells you he can cast water breathing on you. 20 hours total. Givinng each 3 hours and 20 minutes.
As the party continues to talk amongst themselves they approach the temple, as they go into the temple Kunala calls out in his accented lisp, and waves his hankie
Hello! Hello! Is anyone here? The councilor said you fellas could help us with some water breathing spells
@Helikon, do you want us to role play the conversation with the priest or do you want us to assume we have the spells cast on us and go to the pond, it appears to be about 500 yards from the temple

Raffinyaler |

Raffinyaler is really close to his light load limit, so he's going to want you to carry the waterproof bag with his spell book in it Kunala.
"I've had some study of some aspects of it, but much of it has revolved around security systems rather than medical technology."
Taking both the medkit and Elasbeth's spellbook, he places them in the bag next to his formula book then lifts it, testing the weight.
"Kunala, would you mind putting this in with your gear? I think it's a bit heavy for me to carry."

Kunala |
After the priest casts breath water on the party Kunala nods to the priest
thank you kind sir, turning to the party he says well folks, shall we head out to the weeping pond and begin looking for the cave entrance?
The party takes the short walk to the weeping pond, chatting as they go, once there Kunala wavng his hankie says in his accented lisp.
well this is all very … wet, shall we begin to look around?
With that he begins to look for tracks and possible cave entrance.
Perception for tracks perceptions: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
perception for cave perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

Elasbeth Evergreen |

"That seems like a good idea, the spell they cast will only last so long so let's not waste it." With that Elasbeth begins to help look for the entrance we need.
perception for caves: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Apparently I am to preoccupied thinking about that nice medkit

Kimos Kousei |

Once they arrive at the location he finally gets to work. Using his skills to track everything with in range and take in all the details he can.
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Tracking falls under survival not perception btw. ;)

Kunala |
Alternatively, you can use the Perception skill to find a footprint or similar sign of a creature's passage using the same DCs, but you can't use Perception to follow tracks, even if someone else has already found them.
Kunala was just looking for the tracks, he was going to let Kimos follow them :)
@Kimos, nice rolls by the way

Tamoq Swarmcaller |

"Let us be cautious, my friends. Korba and I are ready to explore the depths."
Tamoq grabs hold of Korba's fur and they both wade into the water.
Since Korba has a swim speed, I'm going to assume that Tamoq probably wouldn't need to make any swim checks outside of combat just to travel through the water, but if combat were to start he'll have to start dealing with swimming on his own. Does that work for you, Helikon?

Kunala |
Kunala’s shield is not in use, so his armor is 18 but his swim skill is +/-0. So he can take 10 on swimming.
well, nothing like a good swim, how I do miss the hot bath houses.
Kunala, holding his trident, follows Tamaq and Korba into the water up to his chest, then dunks his head to test the water breathing spell and to check visibility, and attempts to watch as they investigate the pond.
Kunala will take 20 on perception for looking under the water, I doubt if it will help much standing near the edge, with visibility under water, but its worth a try
