Question! Since Raffinyaler and I both took Local Ties(Disable Device), may I switch mine to Knowledge(Engineering)? I would also like to switch out my 1 rank in Disable Device into something else.. and drop the thieves' tools. I'll let Raffin handle any traps.

The town of torch, usually full of vigor is somehow subdued. The source of its income, the purple flame has gone out. Through the taxation a relativly modest town, it faces now a depression of gigantic proportions.
The towns resident mage has gone missing and as you sit in the tavern a young official enters and clears his throat.
"Hear ya, hear ya. For that team of people who manage to find our resident wizard, the town council has offered a reward of 4000 freshly minted gold pieces. IF you manage to return him alive, there will be an extra reward. For those who are brave enought, you shall come to the town council and ask for more informations. "


When the young official leaves, Kunala, always in need of a little extra spending cash due to excessive living, stands up and bangs on his table with the handle of his wheellock, like it was a gavel.

He then calls out in a melodic high pitched voice with a slight cheliaxian accent and a lisp

I would be very excited to assist any of you strong, bold, adventuresome hero's in rescuing our beloved wizard, please join me at my table and let us pool our vast resources

he sits back down but continues looking around the room with an air of expectancy

Normally things were more lively but the tavern was off today. Hunting was good for him but it seemed it other businesses were doing as well. On top of that other things were about from what he heard. Then came the official.

He was not one to take advantage of misfortune but even he had to eat and drink. Maybe he could do more as well. It was during his thoughts that a man drew attention to himself. He ignored him halfway through his speech.

Taking the last sip of his drink he headed to the town council. Anyone worth their skill would come along. He could join up with them, his skills as a hunter were known readily enough. He didn't think they would turn him down.

Sorry Kunala, that would be hard to pull off sober. ;)

Tamoq looks at the man who has stood and banged on his table. He looks like he could be useful.

"What do you think, Korba? Does he look like a worthy companion?"

Tamoq skulks over to Kunala, smelling of dirt and moist fur, but obviously not from lack of washing. He moves quietly, keeping to himself, and is mostly ignored by the other big folk around him. His companion, Korba, follows him.

"Hello, friend. I would be interested in accompanying you. I trust you'll find my abilities, and those of my friend Korba here, useful in your quest."


Kunala notices the hunter leave the building and smiles, as Tamog approaches, Kunala without thinking raises a silk hankie to his nose, realizing what he has done he quickly lowers it, smiling.

again speaking in a accented lisp

and greeting to you friend and your companion Korba turning from Tamog and nodding to the rat ? I am Kunala, late of Cheliax, shall we wait to see if any others join us

kunala thinking to himself well a rat for a rat, in Cheliax they had tieflings and devils, at least he doesn't smell worse than the barbarians

waiving his hand flamboyantly, he offers Tamog a chair

Hearing the official's pronouncement and the dapper, but strangely dressed, human's response, Raffinyaler pulls his attention from mumbling into his drink towards Kunala.

"Hoy there! If'in you're wantin' to find Khonnir I think we can help," the blue haired gnome says loudly as he yanks a chair out from the table before dashing off and quickly returning to slam a child's booster seat down on to it that he jumps up into.

"My name's Raffinyaler, representin' m'self and my missin' wizard friend's son, fella by the name of Okrin. Strange kid, but ain't we all. Anyways, he's waitin' up about the town hall for me to find some peoples to help us find the old man, and since y'all seem interested (wir sollten) (i gyd yn mynd i lawr yno) (en zien wat de ambtenaren) (mihi necesse est dicere!)"

Translation:
A rapid mix of Hallit, Elven, Gnome and Draconic: "(we should) (all go down there) (and see what the officials) (have to say!)"

His rapid speech finished and apparently unaware of his change in languages, Raffinyaler settles into his seat sipping his drink and staring wide-eyed across the table at his new companions.

Kunala watches the gnome gapped mouthed, he quickly turns it back into a smile, then nonchalantly flipping his hair with his hand, he says , again in a lisping cheliax accent,

realizing the ratfolk had not given him his name, he continued

this is Korba pointing to the Dire rat and his associate. It is a pleasure to meet you and you are correct. We are interested.

Kunala looks around the bar to see if anyone else is moving their way, he flips his wrist and standing, declares

It appears we should go meet your friend, you say his name is Okrin? If he is waiting at the town hall we may find a little more assistance there. The more the merrier, I always say.

he tips his hat to the wait staff, tossing a few coins on the table, turning and nodding to his rodent companions he motions to the door

shall we depart? The town council awaits with our freshly minted gold coins, we just need to assist Raffinyaler here and his friend Okrin to get them. Isn’t that correct Raffinyaler

Kunala will follow Raffinyaler out the door since he is clearly from torch and will know the fastest route

Already having been at the Town Hall when the summons were sent out, Okrin had only to wait for the gnomish friend of his adopted father to go and seek out recruits. He sits patiently on one of the chairs in the impressive building, having cleaned the seat with his casting of Prestidigititation. Thoroughly bored while he waits for the gnome, Okrin goes through his spellbook, casually scanning it and thinking about what he might end up needing during the adventure ahead.

Dressed in his 'adventuring gear', Okrin wears a skin-tight suit of waterproof cloth, overwhich he wears more casual travelling clothes, along with numerous bandoliers, his backpack, and his spellbook strapped to his belt. Sitting next to him, loaded but pointing down-wards, in case it accidently goes off, is his trusty crossbow.

A barmaid comes over and smiles. "Anyone any orders. We have mutton stew, the roast is quite good tonight. Any ale, any stout?"


Kunala tips his hat to the barmaid and says

no my dear, we were just preparing to leave

Kunala looks expectantly at his two and a half companions waiting for one of them to lead out

@ Helikon is there any reason we need to stay, information or such? Also, just incase we need to know to come back later, what establishment are we in?

Tamoq looks back at Kunala. "My apologies. My name is Tamoq. It is nice to meet both of you."

He looks down at Korba.

"Say hello, Korba. Don't be rude."

Korba squeaks on command, and Tamoq looks back at his two new associates.

"Korba says hello as well. He doesn't speak the common tongue, though he is learning."

Raffinyaler grins at Tamoq and waves at Korba.

"Yeah, lets get moving. Town hall is this way!"

He grabs his mug with both hands and quickly gulps down the last of his drink before hopping down from his chair and heading towards the door.

I would assume that we are at the Foundry Tavern since that's Raffinyaler's normal bar.


The foundry tavern is closed! It was closed after Master Baine was missing. You can be in the copper coin.

Kimos thought he would be the first to arrive but it seemed someone was already in the hall when the message was sent. He does not sit but leans against a wall, angling himself to view all entrances. He supposed it would take more then two to be considered a group. He would have to wait.

Arriving at the town hall, Raffinyaler quickly introduces Okrin to Kunala, Tamoq, and Korba.

Raffinyaler looks about uncomfortably, "I think I'm gonna let one of you all go in and do the talkin, I don't exactly like being in this kind of place."


Kanala reaches into his belt pouch and removes a bottle of cologne and dabs a little on both sides of his neck, as he puts it away he removes a silk hankie. Turning to Raffinyaler he says (his lisps a little more prevalent)

do not be concerned my little blue friend, I am more than able to converse with Torch’s officials

Gently resting his empty hand on his wheel-lock and if you go in with us you will return out again

He then places his other hand, still holding the hankie, over his nose and addresses Okrin

a pleasure to meet you Okrin, is there some bacteria which does not affect the aboriginal inhabitants that I need to be concerned about?

anyone who can see the side of Kanala’s face can see that he is using the hankie to cover a smirk

Kunala notices the hunter observing the entrances, waiting to make eye contact, nods at him knowingly


At the town hall.
Although very warmly greeted, the clerk asks you politly to wait for a moment as there is an emergency meeting in at this moment.
Although the doors are quite thick you can hear parts of shouted sentences.
I know, but the taxa... are anything but desperate, but the situatio...... I shall calm down, I..shall CALM down. A load bang is heard. After that you do not hear anything more for another 40 minutes. Then the door opens and Captain Aaronlu Langer, Councilor Bazlundi Otterbie and Councilor Joram Kyte leave the meeting hall. Their faces are grim and they walk silently toward their next duties.The clerk moves to the hall and quickly convers with the last councillor and after 2 seconds asks you to enter.
An elderly dwarven woman called Dolga Feddert is sitting in stone chair and greets you with a smile. A heavy black warhammer is leaning next to her and there is a little dent in the stone table in front of her.
"I apologize for not standing up, but those old bones, you know. It seems the idea to send this ne´erdowell around to find a few strong souls was not that stupid. A few of you I do know. A few faces are new. But as long as you find answers you get a big kiss on the cheek, no questions asked. Let´s get down to the bedrock. The purple flame is out. Why? I do not know. But if it is somehow possible, we would like to see it again to lighten the sky. Our resident expert, Councillor Baine was tasked to check it out, and has not returned from his second expedition to the caves below . This is a second Kingpost fallen. We will be generous if you find out what is wrong. Bring him back. We have a scroll to raise him, if the worst has happened. May Torag have mercy and shield him. Well, I guess you have some questions. I will try to answer them! But I have enough questions I want answered."

"Hrrrm. Well, its good to see you as well, Dolga; You seem well, despite the recent troubles. These are the accomplices Raffinyaler and I - mostly Raffinyaler, to be fair - have collected to seek out my father beneath the Black Hill. As little as I know them, I would like to introduce Kunala, Kimos, and Tamoq, with his pet, Korba." Okrin motions to each person in turn as he introduces them to the old councilor. His voice is muffled thanks to the hood he wears, but he's understandable enough, regardless.

"As for questions, yes I have a few. My father, before he went on his second expedition two days ago, had mentioned something about other adventurers going in and not coming out; Do we know much about them? Appearances, perhaps, so we can seek them out, even if just their corpses, while we're there? Although certainly of less import than rekindling the torch or finding my father, we should nevertheless find out what happened to them as well, if only to confirm their deaths."

Okrin clasps his hands behind his back as he speaks, "Second, what information did my father report about the caves themselves? He seemed excited when he returned with that machine he found in there, but he forbade me to touch or examine it. It would be of great assistance if you could provide us with any notes my father left behind."

"And thirdly, is there any other assistance the town can offer? Supplies, perhaps? We are trying to help, obviously, and you know I care about this town as much as you or the other councilors do, and any assistance provided will not go to waste, I'll be sure of it."


Kunala smiles, placing one hand on his hip and the other hanging limp wristed, in his accented lisp says

well a big kiss is always appreciated, almost as much as gold, I hate to repeat my companion here, but is there any assistance you can offer?

also where is this machine so we can inspect it and finally who can we talk to that may give use more information about his first exploration?

Then Kunala turns and speaks to the hunter who is standing apart, waving with his hand

come master hunter, we will not bight, we may appear peculiar but it is our differences that will make us successful. Where your brawny barbaric brethren failed our speed and intelligence will prevail; come ask the Councillor your questions and join us, gold and heroics awaits.

While he mostly listened as was his way. It was not long before the would be dandy bid him over in a bad way. Speaking flawless Common he moved forward with fluid grace.

"You shouldn't make assumptions much less put a voice to them unconfirmed. As to questions, those few I had have been asked. So I await their response."

Btw Kimos looks unarmed save for his shortbow. Need to get my description up when I have time. xP


Kunala sighs, rolling his eyes, shrugging his shoulders, turning his hands up questioningly and smiles

easy friend there must be a misunderstanding, we both know what happens when one makes an assumption. Which observation was incorrect; your ability to hunt, our peculiarity, the past failures, the desire for money and heroics, or, is it that we came up with the same questions: meaning that you and we think enough alike that it disturbs your northern sensibilities. When we are done here let me buy you a drink and we can discuss it. For I meant no offense, by the way my name is Kunala and this is Okrin, Raffinyaler, Tamoq and his associate Korba

And with that Kunala makes a flourish and slight bow and turns his attention back to the counselor.


With a shrug Dolge answers:"Let me see. Well there was that expedition from the faith of Brigh. Then the mercenarys. Baine of course. Oh yes and some halflings. After Baines first expedition he spoke of some strange beast, not alive but working. Like an automaton. But he had not much to say, he told me he would have to investigate further. He just said you had to dive to reach the caverns. As for assistance, our cleric will provide you with a spell of water breathing. More supplies, well you should know that we have some heavy taxation by those black hearted, a well I might be able to arrange a little discount with the shopkeepers, but we pooled all in the reward. And I have learned to be cautious. If you want to inspect the automaton, you should go and ask Val. It is in the foundry. But that was Baines pet project. So either Val or Okrin should know more."


Kunala looks at his companions to see if any of them have any more questions

please jump in if you can think of anything else, if not, do we go talk to Val? or something else? All of you are smarter that Kunala, except for Korba, thankfully, and wiser including Korba, which is a little disturbing; so we don't necessarily want him making all the decisions, so where to now?

Tamoq gets a sour look on his face as Orkin speaks, turns to Korba and says:

Aklo:

"Did you hear that, Korba! He called you a pet! We'll have to watch that one, we will. Pet! The nerve!"

Tamoq quickly composes himself, though, and bows to Dolga.

"I have no specific questions for you, ma'am. Swimming should be no real issue for Korba and I, so with a bit of water breathing magic we'll be prepared."

"Well I had yet to examine the machine my father brought back, and it would be good to let Val know where I'm going so she doesn't get worried. She's all alone at the Tavern Foundry, and a girl her age - not that she's a whole lot younger than me - might get worried."

Raffinyaler stands at the back of the group half-hidden by Okrin and Kunala's larger frames, staring at the floor.

"I have no questions for you madam councilor," he says meekly and without looking up.

Kunala, Bowing toward Dolga Feddert and then turning to Okrin, says in his lispy accent

thank you Madame counselor. Then we depart, Okrin will you take us to the foundry, and introduce us to Val…I cannot wait to meet her, this town has been so…boring

Turning to the hunter

Come sir, we must continue our discussion, I believe I owe you a drink. But first, we should look at the mechanical toy their father brought home and Okrin Must introduce us to his sister, she is your sister right, Okrin?

I'm assuming we head out, Kimos said he had no questions and I'm trying to entice him to come with us.

Kimos felt no need to get into a discussion or argument. So he settled for some advice.

"Your a foreigner and more then that an unlearned one by my ears. You would be wise to watch your words, regardless of intent, some may not take kindly to their arrangement. A bit of wisdom for you, less you find yourself dealing with real barbarians."

He let the implications hang. Between the league and kellid tribes their was no shortage of people who would need little excuse to beat or kill some foreigner with a slow hand and fast mouth. More so when people in the area were on edge as it was, sparking a temper could light a fatal fire. Something that was undesirable to say the least.

Sorry work keeps me from posting most of the day. And know I would have said the same thing even if your wisdom stat was 20. x)

Raffinyaler worriedly looks back and forth between Kunala and Kimos, then breaks into a grin and throws his hands into the air.

"Why are we waiting for that drink my friends, the Foundry's got several excellent ones on tap."

in Hallit towards Kimos:
"And southerners are often strange Kimos, but they rarely mean to offend."
"Surely we can have a friendly pint or three while investigating this mysterious automaton."


based on Raffinyaler's last entry we are headed to, or are at, the foundry

Kunala quickens his pace, waving his silk hankie and replies

a pint or three sounds excellent, first we will have a drinking contest, the we shall continue our pissing contest, ha ha

laughing as his own jest.


Upon arriving at the Foundry-tavern you can see a huge sign. Closed till further notice. The Foundry building itself, black from days upon days of hard labour and soot, is silent and every window is blackened from the soot. Suddenly you hear a loud crash and then suddenly a whining noice from the foundry building.

Kimos draws his bow and rushes toward the source. His first thoughts are of thieves taking advantage of the bad state of things and an empty house. Still the construct that was retrieved stays on his mind, then again he had a distaste for such things in general. He stays alert as he makes his way.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18


Kunala, instinctively unholsters his pistol and follows the hunter, noting the quickness and alertness that the hunter demonstrates.

if were trying to be quite let me know, the pistol shot will make that very difficult :)


The moment you open the foundry, you can hear a scream from inside and you see Val hobbling for the door. Behind her a whirring machine starts to dismantle a workbench in the foundry. The little girl shouts:"Help, its destroying everything."FoundryThe robot is in the northern corner, you can see a claw holding a workbenchleg the other using some whining saw to cut it off.


kunala goes in the left-hand-door going straight west, 40 foot, a double move being careful to not run into the little girl, and stops 15 ft south of the robot. As he is moving through the building he is pointing his wheellock at the robot and he calls back to Okrin and Raff in a surprisingly calm yet lispy accent

"can we talk to it or do we need to put it down?"

if combat ensues Kunala's armor class is 18, his shield is securely attached to his back pack so he will not be using it, Ill adjust any other numbers (like skills) on the fly if needed :)

This is some kind of robot. You have 3 Questions. Usually you would have more, but as robots are still kind of unknown....

Kimos studies the target for a moment before firing his bow. He was not taking chances and if the thing was reasonable it would not be laying waste to the place with a frightened girl fleeing from it.
