he does have the Local ties feat with disable device selected so he can be "treated as if you possessed the Technologist feat" right?

Helicon, do you role for initiative and list the order, I've only done combat with GM Baerlie and it looks like we may be deaded that way :) thanks

A IF I make a spoiler for ONE PERSON... it is for THAT person.

B If you read correctly he has local ties with THAT SKILL. THAT skill is Disable device so he CAN NOT use it with Kn. Engeneering!

GM:

Kunala: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Ruffinyaler: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Tamoq: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Krin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Kimos: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
K23-1: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Tamoq
Kunala
K23-1
Rest

I meant no offence. I thought spoilers were character knowledge not player knowledge, it will not happen again,

I was responding to his request to disable it, sorry, I was hoping we could turn it off instead of destroy it

also in combat do you want us to stay in order of initiative, so Tamoq first, then Kunala, or as long as Tamoq and Kunala go before K23-1 then everyone else after. I just wnat to know your preference, because I am hoping for many combat rounds to follow

Did my attack from last round count?

Post and I will try to sort it out.
Your attack hit but it bounced of its armor. You used your surprise round.

Kunala aims his pistol at the metal monster and squeezes the trigger, a short whir, like the spinning of clockworks is heard, then the blast of exploding gunpowder

moved within the pistols first range increment last round, hoping touch AC was lower

wheellock pistol attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 for damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2 not that it helped :)

Kunala holsters his pistol, and grasps his morning star’s handle preparing to move into melee against the abomination.

hope the spikes can ding or dent this thing

Male Human Slayer 1 HP 11 l AC 18/Touch 14/FF 14 l F+3/R+6/W+2 l Init +4 l Perception +6

Seeing that his well aimed arrow failed to get through it's metallic shell, he charges the metal monster. Dropping his bow as he goes. He flicks his wrist, his trusted less seen weapon appears in his hand. Bring it down in a slash across the thing, a powerful rush of motion but one that left him slightly exposed.

Wakizashi vs Robot: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 = 161d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

-2 to AC this round. That's got to be DR 5 something. That's brutal for a level 1 encounter. Fine make me show all my stuff why don't you. xD

maybe we should have talked to it, but really, I couldn't wait to shoot at something so its all good. Lets beat the tar out of it and turn its parts into jewelry, If I can get to the backside of it next round I will give you a flank :) After that statement I just realized Kunala may not be the only one with a low wisdom, bwa ha

Being attacked now twice the Robot riposts.

Tamoq moves forward along with Korba. He tells Korba

Aklo:

Transform! Flank!

Korba will use a Swift action to become his "primal" form, his tail gaining a sting attack (imagine the tail of an Andalite from the old Animorphs books), his body gaining dragon-like scales, and his teeth glowing with magical energy. Then both Tamoq and Korba will then attempt to flank the robot and each attack.

Tamoq dagger attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15 (+2 if flanking)
Tamoq damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 (+1 if flanking)

Korba bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 (+2 flanking)
Tamoq damage: 1d4 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2 (+1 if flanking, counts as magic for DR)

Raffinyaler heads towards the fleeing Val attempting to interpose himself between her and the device, awkwardly fishing a dagger out of it's sheath and calling back to Okrin as he does, "Okrin, I can get Val. Any way to disable that thing without destroying it?"

Move action to get to/near Val (20' move), standard action as a second move to draw the dagger (stupid +0 BAB), free action to speak.

Okrin:
As far as you know, there is no way to shut down those robots. But you would say it is already quite damaged, it is moving in short bursts, and although it did hit Kimos, it seems more like some lucky hit.

I will bot for Okrin
Okrin will wave his hand a spark of electricity flys to the robot.
Jolt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 but misses badly.
Now the group has a full turn, as the robot is trapped in a logic loop.
So all, then Kunala and Kimos, then robot. Yes that means Kunala and Kimos now go twice.

Kunala moves north toward the machine freeing his Morningstar from its scabbard as he moves, grasping the star two-handed hoping the spikes can pierce the things metal shell, he swing in a downward motion as if chopping wood

moves 15ft or 20ft, if he can flank he will

Morningstar attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 +2 if flanking, for damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

I think he missed the bot and hit his own toe :) I'll take my second turn after everyone else at least gets a whack at it

Male Human Slayer 1 HP 11 l AC 18/Touch 14/FF 14 l F+3/R+6/W+2 l Init +4 l Perception +6

Kimos shrugged off the metal creatures counter, bring his families blade Esuro across the beast again.

Esuro vs Robot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 141d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

While the robot shows off it's toughness, Kimos keeps chipping away. With his wickedly sharp blade as it never failed him in the past.

Esuro vs Robot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 191d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Posted both actions to save time. Add +2 if flanking can be done. Edit- Well seems like he needed a warm up of bad rolls. -.-

Do we have a map somewhere yet? I can't find a link anywhere.

Tamoq and Korba will both attack again, trying to get flanking with five-foot steps if necessary, Korba getting two attacks now, a bite and sting.

Tamoq dagger: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12 (+2 if flanking)
Dagger damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 (+1 if flanking)

Korba bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 (+2 if flanking)
Bite damage: 1d4 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2 (+1 if flanking, magic damage if it matters)
Korba sting: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 (+2 if flanking)

Tamoq: the map is here. It was linked mid-paragraph on the first page.

Raffinyaler grabs Val by the arm, half dragging her with him, as he heads back towards Okrin and the door, dagger at the ready in the event the machine breaks off towards them.

Assumption is between my move and Val's move, we're at the same square or she's already moved past me.
Taking a move to get Val past Okrin, stopping at him. Readying a standard action to attack at range with dagger should the robot get within 10' of us.

Readied Attack roll and damage if needed: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

Waiting for Okrin to post. The robot is almost broken.

If Okrin didn´t post till tonight I will bot him again. Will write him that he gets the yellow card. It is absolutly ok if reallife interferes, but I would really like a notification.

BOT-Okrin casts another jolt at the automaton.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 But again misses badly.
This round a few of the heroes hit, but only Kunala barely manages to damage it and Kimos, with a lucky hit, manages to finally break enough wires to wreck the robot.
With a sigh Val reappears. "I do not know what I did, but suddenly this thing came to live. Thank you very much for your help, I would have been helpless against it. I am Val, daughter of Baine. And you have my gratitude. What can I do for you?"

Kunala looks at Kimos and then Esuro and nods respectfully to the hunter, he then says to Tamoq

Your associate, Korba, is more than meets the eye, very impressive gentlemen,

Placing his Morningstar back in its scabbard and beginning to reload his pistol; he turns looking at Val, talking as his hands fluidly load the weapon and speaking with his accented lisp, saunters over to where Raffinyaler and Val are standing.

Dear child, Okrin your adopted brother has brought us here to begin the process of finding your father, is this pointing to the dead robot the object he found in the cave? We were hoping Okrin and Raffinyaler could look at it. Also I would like to buy all of these gentlemen a drink as we discuss our plans

Male Human Slayer 1 HP 11 l AC 18/Touch 14/FF 14 l F+3/R+6/W+2 l Init +4 l Perception +6

Kimos quickly puts Esuro away. Turning his back to hide it's location in his wrist sheath, which he resprings. Afterwards he walks over to where he dropped his bow and replaces it on his back. He looked over to his fired arrow, it was ruined and he left it where it fell. Keeping silent and listening to how things would unfold.

"Yep, this is the automaton Pops found in the cave. Well, the tavern is closed but the drinks go on me. I can also offer you to stay in the tavern, free of charge.

Kimos:
If I read the wrist sheath correctly, a wakazashi is to big for it. It say dagger or other item of that size. A wakazashi is way bigger. Is there another you use?

Kunala holstering his pistol, dropping his backpack while slipping into a chair; props his feet on the table and producing his silk hankie waves it about as he speaks in his accented lisp.

Thank you for your hospitality. Before you set off to bring us a round, something light, maybe a mead, we have SO much work to do; Does your father have an office or laboratory we can check for clues as to what he may have been looking for and is there any gear of his we could use?

what approximate age is Val, should I roll diplomacy to determine how helpful she is? just in case

diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 = 12 still wearing cologne, wow it did not help much :)

She is 14, and as Okrin is her stepbrother and you saved her she is quite helpful. Well pops has the foundry, but he has written all down in his notebook, wich he carried with him. He was looking for clues why the flame went out. As he found some footprints at the pools he investigated. And he found an entrance under the water. Thats it. And to gear. We are a foundry, and most he rook with him. Anything you need in particular?

Since we will be working under water anything that could help with that, I will need a couple of waterproof bags for my powder and a couple of different weapons, nothing too difficult. Even if we could just go to the nearest weapons dealer I should be able to find something useful. We must also remember to go to the temple for our scroll. What say you gentlemen, do you need anything or have any questions before we set to the machine and the mead.

First he looks to his three and ½ compatriots questioningly, then He looks to the slayer

Come hunter, it’s time for that drink. What shall we call you?

DM:

Wakizashi are between 1 and 2 foot long. Daggers are 1 foot long. So a wakizashi can fit unless it was made towards the far end of the spectrum. Just like it's strange to find a dagger longer then 1 foot I would consider a wakizashi towards the 2 foot mark to be strange. So I leave it to you. Personally I consider a wakizashi to be super sharp honor dagger. Just like the katana is a super sharp sword. Let me know what you decide.

"My name is Kimos and I would prefer to get started. If I wanted to drink and waste time I would have stayed at the tavern."

Kunala looks around the tavern, as if to say something, then thinks better of it, he hops up feigning urgency and squeals

Right you are Kimos! Gentlemen what do you need from our kind host Val and what can you find out from this pile.

kicking the machine

Before we scurry about Tourch without so much a draft to quench our thirsts.

looking then to Kimos, hands on his hips, as if that was what was expected

what time of day is it, what is the weather like, will we need cold weather gear?

Kimos:
I will say it won´t work. Why and how to fix it is following.
Ok, I have to take a big breath now. History and Martial sience mode activated. In Japan the samurai had usually 2 swords to show their rank, combined called the daisho. One was the Katana, or longsword, usually used in either one handed or twohanded grip, depending on school, showing that you belonged to the bushi, or the fighting type. The wakazashi was a symbol of the nobility, and were used to fight in close quarters, to fight with the dualswordstyle (Niten), sometimes (RARELY) to throw and for commiting suicide. The fitting dagger was the tanto, who had no tsuba, or parry disk. A Katana usually had a blade of at least 2 shaku (1 shaku = 30,3cm), the wakazashi had a blade of less than two shaku meaning about less than 60cm and at least one shaku (30cm) and the tanto had less then one shaku. This is just the length of the blade. Then you had a grip.
A wakazashi has about 20 cm of grip. Meaning it is between 50cm to 80cm in total. Now I am pretty big guy 1.89m and the distance between my hand and my elbow is a little less than 30cm. So I have to say it won´t fit there. This is real life. Gamemode on. A wrist sheath is for a dagger or a wand. A dagger is a d4 weapon. The wakazashi is a d6 weapon. So I would say that won´t work. Mechanically.
Magically all gloves come off. Once you have saved Baine, he should be able to make you a custom sheath.
AND. If you come with a good idea, I am totally open for the rule of cool!

It is not yet noon, the weather is decent. You won´t need cold weather gear.
Something diffrent. I have contacted Okrin and did not get an answer yet. How long shall I wait till I check for a replacement, and do you want a replacement?

if I understood the posts on his other games he is going to be gone a week, I don't know if he blew us off or just forgot because we were new. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait the week. For in game purposes Okrin can quietly follow along, no fighting or talking. If there is something only he would know or could figure out you could bot him then, other than that we play like he is not there. When he gets back he can join back in. That would be my vote, but your the GM so it has to be your call. If he is not comming back I would like a replacement, the more the merrier.

Agreed with Kunala, give Okrin the few more days which might be necessary, he may have just forgotten to post a "I'll be gone for a while" post on this thread. I know I've now gotten into enough PbP games that I could conceivably forget to update one every so often.

"I will go to the nearest market and buy a few scrolls which will allow us to deal with this underwater issue. Kunala, I can also make your weapon fire reliably underwater, if you'd like. If each of you could give me 25 gold for the scroll, and two from Kunala (for himself and his weapon) then we should have no problems with the water."

Planning to buy a scroll of air bubble for each character as well as one to surround Kunala's gun if he'd like. I can only afford three scrolls currently myself.

Kunala looks around a little sheepishly, clearing his throat, speaking in his accented lisp.

why don't I go with you to the market, but first lets go to the temple to see if we cannot talk the priest into more than one scroll and aquire any information he may have.

Kunala gives a sly grin

As it were, I'am short on gold, thus the reason I have accepted the task set before us. I will be happy putting the wheellock and powder in an air-tight bag. assuming I can purchase one, and a weapon suitable for water, like a trident.

"Tamoq, you may wish for one of us to accompany you and Korba to the market. Your kind is not often seen here and some of the residents of Torch are... prejudiced. In addition, I've not the cash for the scroll, so let's stop by the temple and see if they can help us out.

Kunala, I'll pay Garritt a visit. Hopefully he's not hiding anything but if he is I'll find it."

Helikon:
Following up on the rumor about gremlins, going to make a knowledge check to see weaknesses, strengths, etc. that we might have to be worried about:
Knowledge (Nature) + free Inspiration: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (20) + 7 + (3) = 30
so we can hopefully pick up anything we might need/can afford to help fight them.

Kunala looks at the blue gnome and asks

Raffinyaler are you suggesting we split up after the temple, I would happily escort Tamoq and Korba, I have a talent for dealing with prejudice

as he speaks he gently rests his hand on his pistol. He then goes to his pack and retrieves his shield placing it in a fashion to easily arm himself. Waiting for someone to head out.

so are we all going to the temple? Raffinyaler are you suggesting we split after the temple, Tomaq and Kunala going to the Market. Like I said I will buy a couple of items. then you going to the dunp, If we are going to split why don't you invite Kimos to go with you and we can leave Okrin here to "watch over his sister." Or all four of us stick together, temple, junk yard then market. Once were done back here to regroup; or rest if necessary then leave tomorrow.

Raffinyaler:
Well known for their mischievous natures, their nasty senses of humor, and their destructive habits, the fey creatures known as gremlins rightfully earn their reputations as cruel pranksters and sadistic saboteurs. Ranging in size from 3 feet in height down to barely over a foot tall, numerous types of gremlins stalk the world’s dark and unseen reaches, tending to linger near thin spots in reality between the Material Plane and the realms of the fey. The smaller a gremlin is, the stronger its ties to the realm of the fey remain, and the stranger and more potent its powers.

Gremlins understand that they lack physical power, and thus are usually encountered in large groups that work together to defend each other and their lair. While all gremlins share certain traits in common, such as a resistance to damage from weapons save those made of cold iron, a cruel and sadistic sense of humor, the ability to use prestidigitation to enhance their mischievous plans, and their slight statures, the single trait that gremlins are most well known for is their ability to break, curse, and otherwise ruin the works of other creatures. Gremlins take great delight in ruining and breaking things, and while each gremlin race has a particular “specialty” (be it magical auras, complex machinery, coordinated tactics, or even luck itself), all gremlins are fascinated by complex devices and intricate social constructs. Nothing pleases a gremlin more than being involved in the collapse of something complex.

Although gremlins originally hailed from the mysterious realm of the fey, they have lived upon the Material Plane for countless generations. In that time, they have become natives of this realm, both in body and soul. Yet not all gremlins have managed to retain their strange powers to disrupt and destroy—the most unfortunate gremlins are not even commonly known as gremlins at all. These bizarre creatures are known as mites. While they retain the gremlin ability to use a few spell-like abilities, mites represent to their fellow gremlins the ultimate shame and horror—a fall into pathetic self-loathing and pitiful cowardice. As a result, gremlins grow particularly sadistic and violent when presented with an opportunity to torment a tribe of mites, abandoning their more subtle methods of disrupting communities and machinery in favor of all-out war, invading mite homes and lairs with tiny knives in hand and murder on their minds. Only mite tribes that have managed to ally themselves with particularly dangerous vermin generally have any chance at all to withstand an invasion of this sort, and most tribes quickly surrender to the gremlins. In some cases, the wholesale act of surrender can cool the gremlins’ rage, and the attackers simply take steps to subjugate and enslave the tribe of mites, using them from that point on as a slave class to serve their whims, but in other cases not even the mite tribe’s complete surrender can save them.

Against larger creatures, particularly humanoids (whom gremlins particularly love to torment and vex), gremlins adopt a much more subtle approach. Gremlins know that they lack the physical strength to withstand a fight against even the weakest humanoid societies, and thus keep to the shadows when moving through cities and villages. Gremlins seek out regions within urban areas where the “big folk” don’t bother to visit often—places like sewers, dumps, graveyards, and abandoned buildings make for perfect gremlin lairs. Once a gremlin tribe establishes itself in the shadows of a humanoid society, it begins its work. Operating in pairs or even alone, the gremlins move out into the society, seeking ways to undo anything that can be undone. If a gremlin can arrange it, it prefers to leave an object, relationship, or situation in such a condition that it may seem stable and undamaged to the casual observer, but falls apart or fails spectacularly the next time it is used or encountered. A gremlin often waits in hiding nearby so it can observe the calamitous results of its mayhem, but takes pains to be well out of reach when such a disaster occurs. Gremlins know that it’s not good to be in arm’s reach of an angry humanoid once it realizes it’s been visited by a gremlin.

In areas where gremlin activity is well established, many societies have developed unique and clever ways to both protect themselves from gremlin-related mayhem and root out the little monsters from their lairs. One common method of dealing with gremlins is to use objects known as gremlin bells. Crafted from bronze, brass, or other semiprecious metals and measuring no more than an inch tall, gremlin bells are hung from delicate chains or silken cords over door frames and windows, or affixed to precious objects. The belief is that the presence of a gremlin bell sickens the creatures and even renders their supernatural and spell-like abilities useless. Strangely enough, many gremlins believe this as well, and even when the gremlin bells aren’t magic, gremlins won’t risk tinkering with most objects that seem to be warded in such a manner.

Other communities take a much more active path in ridding themselves of gremlins, training small animals like cats, dogs, falcons, or even weasels to seek out and attack gremlins on sight. Tiny trained animals can pursue gremlins into their cramped warrens with ease and, when their claws are fitted with cleverly constructed cold iron spikes, can inflict significant damage on a tribe of these creatures. Many gremlin tribes have learned from such tactics, however, and utilize trained (or not) animals in their on lairs for protection.

Kimos we are taking your recommendation and getting started, Okrin please stay here and watch over your sister and check the robot and your fathers files, we are heading to the temple.

with that Kunala heads out the door going to the temple...

Helikon, if there is anything relevant from the robot or laboratory please let us know what we need to role.

It seemed Kimos was the only one listening. While he goes along he points a few things out.

"They said they possessed a scroll to raise the dead, they did not say they would give it to us. Which would be pointless if he was alive as it has not been confirmed one way or the other. If he is dead then we simply bring back the body. Does not make sense to take something so valuable into danger or give it to the first group that shows up saying they will try. Concerning the water, the priest has agreed to cast spells on us to breath water, their was no mention of underwater danger. Outside that of drowning for being a bad swimmer."

He had said his peace and felt no need to point out his earlier statement of making assumptions.

"As for gold I have little. My lifestyle is not one of soft beds or rooted roofs."

DM:

Yeah the problem with magic is price, but if I have a grateful wizard that's easier. Anyways idea wise I am going to steal from movies and a little tech sense that's what this AP is about. If it is too big for hand to elbow. How about a spring loaded leg sheath, should be long enough between foot to knee. Granted he will need to wear pants with slits around the knee. Let's just call it a style. Yes, No, Maybe? ;)

Kimos:
Let me sleep about it. ;-)

"Ah, your memory is much better than ours, Kimos. You are correct. Let us go get these water breathing spells cast on us and get going."

"We're not takin' that specific scroll. We're looking for a scroll or five that'll let us breathe while underwater. Just cause we've a priest that can do it to get us in, doesn't mean we've a priest that can do it to get us out. And also doesn't mean he can do it right now. May be tomorrow before he can get us in."

Male Human Slayer 1 HP 11 l AC 18/Touch 14/FF 14 l F+3/R+6/W+2 l Init +4 l Perception +6

Kimos gives the gnome a look between someone that knows something and someone who wonders if they should say it. Clearly the former won out.

"I would think that the council did not make this decision in haste or without asking the priest ahead of time. Otherwise why would they offer something like that if it would be delayed. More so others have gone before us, I doubt we were the first to consider that little problem. Lastly in my experience it is harder to get into something underwater then leave it. We simply float to the surface. I suggest we avoid any predictions and stick to what we do know to be true. The priest has the answers, maybe scrolls too or not."

He was starting to wonder if this group had any experience outside the safety of the town or the like. They seemed more concerned with planning things then doing them, plans could not account for everything. A hunter could become prey in a split second only to return once more with fickle luck or fate.
