The three remaining giants in the courtyard yell with anger and fire their crossbows at Aristu and Piotr. Aristu takes two powerful bolts to the shoulder and chest and is badly injured.

Sorry. Both he and you are incorrect. Mikhail's attempt to stabilize came in the same turn he spent three actions attacking Agai. He can stabilize Kern -now-, though.

The post just before Mikhail cast Stabilize, you asked everyone to go? Kernithar would also change initiative order to just before Agai so every member of the team has a chance to act before my stabilize roll.


Okay, I just did a long post showing the timeline, then realized you were right and I was wrong. I confused myself with the two posts where I showed the status. Oops! Mea maxima culpa.

Also, I did move Kern to just before Agai. It's just that Agai is no longer in the rotation. Anyway, Kern went from just before the other spriggans to just after.


Alister's spell causes a heavy butcher's cleaver to fly across the room and strike the nearest gnome, cutting it badly. The gnome flies into a rage and swiftly grows to giant proportions!

Aristu points his wand and launches another bright point of light at one of the spriggan. Then he drops down below the wall and flies around the outside of the barrier. Out of sight of his enemies, he retrieves a healing potion from his supplies.

I know I'm probably missing something, but you seem to be describing an activity with the wand that takes no actions. Is that right?

Kern's eyes flit open as he springs up and into the corner of the room, taking in the giant spriggan in the room adjacent during his retreat.

Stand, Hunt Prey on Spriggan next room over, Stride. Recall Knowledge please on Spriggan W. If Crit, +1 circumstance bonus for allies against the Prey for next attack.


A last stray missile shoots from Aristu's wand and hits the enemy before the sorcerer moves to safety in his ongoing game of hit-and-run.

Kern studies his foe while moving into position.

Kern, when you Recall Knowledge, please list the bonus so I don't have to go hunt for it. You received an ordinary success, but you pretty much know all there is to know about these guys.

Outside, two spriggans load their crossbows and rush to the gatepost to try to spot Aristu. One manages to shoot the mage from close range and puts a heavy quarrel directly in to his chest. The pain is exquisite and Aristu is barely hanging on.

G Large Crossbow v. Aristu: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 331d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Ouch! Critical hit!

One of the spriggans (G), reduces his size and runs inside the blockhouse.

Meanwhile, up in the upper blockhouse, the enlarged spriggan (W) steps into the kitchen, smashing aside tables, pots and pans. He drops his crossbow, pulls out a morningstar and attacks Alister. Another (Z) steps away from Mikhail, drops his crossbow and pulls out his morningtar, then steps back to face the warrior. Two more (X, Y) lean out to take potshots at Mikhail from a distance.

Enlarged Morningstar, Frightened v. Alister: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 12 - 1 = 161d6 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Miss.

Mikhail swings once at the creature to guage its defense and then comes in with a mighty second strike to take off it's head.

I think Power Attack only doubles the base 1d12 and not the +1d12 from striking. If that is wrong and it doubles both then I should add a d12.


You're right. And by the way, both of those attacks hit (you can only miss on a 1).

Mikhail bats aside the spriggan's guard with contemptuous ease, stabbing the overmatched warrior twice in the chest!

You affix a trip line or other trigger to a group of either stones or wooden stakes to strike a creature that enters the snare’s square. The creature must attempt a DC 26 basic Reflex saving throw. If you choose stones, the snare deals 9d8 bludgeoning damage; if you choose spikes, it deals 9d8 piercing damage. (flavor daggers)

First time using a Snare! Let's learn...
Kern has Snare Specialist so he can craft in 3 actions, which he'll use now to place the snare just inside the doorway (marked by a sun symbol). Because he's an Expert in crafting, the spriggans must be actively searching for my snare to find it. As soon as a Small or larger creature enters that square, KAPOW!

Snare Specialist:

You specialize in creating quick traps to obstruct your enemies on the battlefield. If your proficiency rank in Crafting is expert, you gain the formulas for three common or uncommon snares (page 589). If your rank is master, you gain 6. If your rank is legendary, you gain 9.
Each day during your daily preparations, you can prepare four snares from your formula book for quick deployment; if they normally take 1 minute to Craft, you can Craft them with 3 Interact actions. The number of snares increases to six if you have master proficiency in Crafting and eight if you have legendary proficiency in Crafting. Snares prepared in this way don’t cost you any resources to Craft.

Detecting a Snare:

Creatures can detect snares as they would any trap or hazard (as described here), using the creator’s Crafting DC as the snare’s Stealth DC. As you become better at creating snares, your snares become harder to detect by those with lesser ability. If you are an expert in Crafting, only a creature that is trained in Perception can find your snares; if you are a master in Crafting, only a creature that is an expert in Perception can find your snares; and if you are legendary in Crafting, only a creature that is a master in Perception can find your snares.
If your proficiency rank is expert or better in Crafting, only creatures actively searching can find your snares.

Triggering Snares:

Unless stated otherwise in a snare’s description, when a Small or larger creature enters a snare’s square, the snare’s effect occurs and then the snare is destroyed.

After zapping one of the spriggan with another missile, Aristu keeps low and continues to zip around the stockade a few feet above the ground. When he gets to the far side, he stops and drinks the potion he pulled out.

Outside, Aristu hides behind the blockhouse, relying on the chaos inside and hoping that no one has time to drop boiling oil out of the conspicuous murder holes above him. He downs an oily potion and feels slightly better.

A hail of crossbow bolts showers Mikhail as the spriggan before him attacks furiously, but the warrior of the gods is in his element, smashing aside wooden bolts and shoving his shield into his opponent's face.

As Kern's snare erupts, whipping daggers around on the wire, the incoming spriggan shows an amazing celerity, diving over the trap and only getting a single serious laceration. He tries to smash Alister with his morningstar, but the bard dodges out of the way.

Mikhail kills the spriggan between him and Piotr with two short and efficient thrusts of his blade. Whirling on his heel, he goes to confront one of the crossbowmen, who stares at him in terror.

Kern leaps out, slashing down with his beautiful elvish blade, catching the spriggan at the joint between the neck and shoulder, slicing through bone and muscle. With a groan, the spriggan falls to the floor, bleeding out.

Eristhea has marked his skin with complex runes allowing him to tap into magic more easily. Lightning snaps between the two spriggans and a sharp burning smells fills the air.

Aristu flies up to the top of the watchtower and looks down through the trap door. Seeing Alister below him, he calls out, "The courtyard is clear."

If there are any foes in his field of view (I think he can see V), he casts two force bolts at the spriggan.

Piotr and his weird buggy servant open the door to the room and see a ruined bedroom. The only hint that this room once housed the leader of Varnhold is the large map of the Nomen heights tacked to one wall. The map has been torn to shreds, and the other bedroom furnishings are either similarly ruined or else missing.

Aristu flies up the to the watchtower, sees the situation below and helps out his brother with a well-timed missile.

As the spriggans (U,V) push into the room, more surge up the stairs, boiling out like hornets from a shaken nest.

Kern, I know you said you'd Hunt Prey and Recall Knowledge, but because I may have cheated you on V, I'm just going to have you roll into U. You've done enough damage to kill them both.

Piotr’s summoned sun spider bites the startled spriggan, inflicting a terrible wound and follows it up with another bite. Piotr himself follows this up with a stream of acid that hits the spriggan warrior directly in the chest. The spriggan screams as the acid burns into his flesh.

Mikhail lays into the creature in front of him, wounding the spriggan twice.

One brave Spriggan (B) strides into the kitchen of death, stepping around the corpses of his fellows to attack Alister.
