Sooo I just learned that in PF, adamantine DR doesn't stack with barbarian DR, so adamantine is not super useful to me for armor.

Which means I don't need to save up for 16.5k of armor after all!

I'm enjoying it! And it's giving me a chance to really think about what it means to be Beshtori, and how I'm going to role-play something that will be so foreign to zir.

Also, it's worked us around to asking some important questions, like maybe any of us could masquerade as female drow, if we want. And discussing how we are all going to fit in seems crucial.

Honestly, this is one of the best character interaction scenes in the game so far. We are learning a lot about each other.

Okay, so pushing on. A few notes:

- All of you can add hand crossbows and 10 poison bolts to your equipment. You are now proficient in hand crossbows irrespective of your class - benefit of the blood links. Other drow gear

- You have the time and resources to tailor your equipment if necessary unless it takes two weeks or something.

Saphren already has the hand crossbow but will add the additional 10 poison bolts to his inventory.

Now that you all are proficient Saphren will offer to share the 20 +1 crossbow bolts that he has. Since his hand crossbow is already +1 he does not need the +1 of these bolts. So if anyone plans to use the crossbow get some of these for me. Just let me know.

Gear: What could and what should we do to make our gear more drowlike?

I'd like to note that with the change of bodies we should loot a complement of mundane drow equipment to replace our surface gear.

Saphren could spend 1000 gp to add Shrinking to his cold iron Falchion. This would allow it to shirk it down to dagger size to be able to conceal it. Thoughts?

He had the gold to glamour his armor but not enough to do so his weapon. And chain shirts should be pretty common so its likely not needed. He could add Poison Resistance to his armor (+3 to poison saves) which might make sense dealing with drow. Thoughts?

Well, we probably should have a few trophy items (stuff we ostensibly looted from the surface), and of course Brenna will carry a whip, even though she's not proficient with it. (She will probably hand it to Zoso and point at people and scowl, and explain that "He is my mouthpiece, I make the decisions, I am not going to dirty my hands with profane blood.")

Since Shrinking is just a small fixed cost I see no reason not to add it to Saphren's falchion. Wait, didn't the spell already shrink his falchion? HEYOOO!

I'm going to pull the trigger as we do our last gear update and junk my old full plate in exchange for +1 frost-forged steel full plate (5,500 gp). Thematically this is a suit of ancient armor crafted for an Ulfen warrior by their dwarven allies of old. Gives me cold resistance 2. Later I'll glamer it but I can't afford that right now. Mostly this is because I want the thematic flavor to fit with Brenna's "warrior from the frozen north" motif. If anyone looks suspicious at it, Brenna will just say it's loot from successful raids in the surface world, and she likes the dragon (linnorm) designs etched in it, and if you have any more questions, I will be happy to give the whip to my spokesman.

I can take some of the bolts but honestly I'm kinda crap with a crossbow. Really better for our high Dex people like Lyr and Zoso and Besh.

There is possibly a hilarious side-scene where someone has to teach Brenna how to wear a push-up corset and stockings if she's going to pretend to be a drow mistress, but we're already late for our adventure so we can just skip that and you guys can rib her about it later. ;)

EDIT: Sorry for the crappy timing. I got incredibly sick on Thursday (probably food poisoning) and had a 10' cone acid breath attack. I"m only just getting caught up.

OK, if available, Saphren adds Poison Resistance to his armor (+3 to poison saves, because con 12 and drow poison...), and buys 2 Stalagmite Seeds. That leaves him with 229 gold. Which brings up a good question - Do we know what drow use as currency and can we exchange our coin for that?

Edit to the above - That armor enchant is a resistance bonus so it does not stack with the cloak. I'll not be doing that. Just put me down for Shrinking on the weapon for now. Saphren will keep the rest of the gold.

Saphren - you do not know what drow use as currency. However it wouldn't be suspicious to have surface currency, and none of their bodies were found with any kind of weird drow currency.

As for drow equipment, the sort of standard drow kit (rapiers, chain shirts, hand crossbows, drow poison bolts) are readily available for anyone who wants them.

Lyr took a rapier and some finer women's clothing to complete her new look.

Brenna, you might consider picking up a Snag Net. With a full BaB you don't need to worry about the non-proficiency penalty too much because they are a touch attack. Then whoever you catch is Entangled and stuck next to you by the rope and has to make an opposed strength check to move.

I picked the image because it seemed to show the same sort of self-effacement and maybe depression that Beshtori has. I did notice the name when I picked it and thought it seemed even more appropriate :)

Only if we fight it on it's terms. If we are smart and willing to play the long game, Vex could kill this thing by herself while the rest of us watch. It is only a danger if we get close to it.

It isn't fast. It probably has a lousy reflex save. It has a maximum reach of around 50 feet or so. We have two archers and a metric buttload of alchemical weapons. I bet we could glue it to the ground and pour alchemist on it for as long as it took without allowing it to get close enough to be a threat.

Not sure how to rescue the gnomes though.

I'm really a liability here. It uses touch attacks (so my armor is worthless) and does Strength damage with a really high Fort save DC (so in a round or two I can be rendered immobilized and unable to do anything). The freedom of movement will at least keep it from grabbing me, but there's still very little chance that I can hurt it without getting into a position where it can kill me quickly. Either I need to stay back and use ranged attacks, or need some way to be immune to its Strength damage.

I thought it had to grab to do that? Hmm. Might have been a waste of that spell. Oh well. Lyr doesn't have a high enough Knowledge Dungeoneering to know much about this thing, so I'm trying to go based of off the description and the rough memory I have of the 2nd edition Roper.

Yeah, sounds like we all need to stay back from this thing.

It would be good to know what distance we are from it currently, too. We didn't get the 50ft detail, but I would think our guide would have stopped outside of that anyways. Still worth verifying though.

Those attacks are range attacks so no AOOs Brenna. So I think we can charge. We are already closer than 50'.

Entangled gives a -4 to Dex, which translates to a -2 to AC, so maybe Saphren's still hit?

I missed that Lyr was going to throw a tanglefoot bag, and I figured the spider could force the roper to waste a standard action escaping from the web (which it can easily do - I seem to remember that they are pretty strong)

One of us could use it to appear as a deep gnome. Might be handy.

So do we act like drow, confiscate the gnome's trade goods, and enslave them? I'd rather give them the small sized armor and free them, but that is not gonna look good. How do we come across like drow but make allies and gain intel here?

I'm in the same predicament, my only thought is to enslave them now to save face and then release them quietly once we're alone. Then say they died to anyone who asks.

Hey guys, so I'll just be blunt and say I made an error on the cover story Gadak sold you.

There is no cover story - you guys just came from beyond the gate and House Rasivreign was a disaster and unable to meet your arrival. But he's recommended you openly say you were part of the surface forces.

Where you come from, what house you served beforehand, how you know each other, etc. All of that is yours to sort out.

I'm curious what you think is weak. Lyr is the only one who knows anything about the drow, but we know a ton about the surface. We also have no history in the Darklands. We need to turn that into a strength instead of a weakness. "Mercenaries who were part of the failed surface mission" seemed like a good fit.

My only other thought is if we'd be from a different Darklands city, but again lack of knowledge hurts that angle. Zoso isn't even sure if he can speak right now without getting smacked.

All said and done I'm ok with the current direction. The best part of our cover story will have to be details assumed by those we're decieving since we have no reputation. Just be cryptic and hopefully they'll fill in the details for us.

Well to start with we have no common story. Separate us and any possible story falls apart. This lady is a drow matriarch and used to questioning people to get the truth.

Second, I can think of no decent story that is not easily verified. Do we hope that this house will not check our story with whatever house we claim to be from. That would be too much to hope for imho.

The point is we got to where we are in the story with a planned cover story. That story is now gone. So it pretty obvious we need to backtrack and retrofit a new story.
