Bronin Dohari |
@Gm - Bronin has FoM (freedom of movement ) as a 4th level V,S,M spell. there's a few ifs. "If" I can cast it while being buried, and IF it works to get me free - we still have Adder. But, of course with FoM, I probably have pinpointed or can pinpoint where Adder is for efforts to rescue him.... again, IF I'm not equally pinned right now and can't cast.
Vladlena |
Lena flies over the wreckage.
Whiskerjack, what can I do? I could disintegrate some of the large rocks?
Whiskeyjack Dunaldthal |
"Like as no' ye'd disintegrate part of 'em as well. An' i's no' likely ye'd be gettin' t' choose t' take Bronin's tongue, neither. Jest keep yer broom away from th' rocks I be flingin' and we be havin' them ou' in a jiff!"
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren waits from afar (or high up, wherever the air doesn’t suck) to see where she might help best. Without line of sight, or functioning muscles, Wren is pretty useless here.

It's not clear how tightly you're pinned. You must have some leverage if you can free yourself with a Strength check, so I'm going to say it's a DC 25 Reflex save to be able to move enough to cast the spell.
If you make it, we'll say Whiskey can unbury Adder in 1 minute, so there'll be no further damage (and presumably everyone can hold their breath that long) so you'll be free to move away from the sinkhole and fumes.
Bronin Dohari |
Bronin shakes and wiggles to try and gain leverage and a small amount of space to cast an important spell. He reaches for his belt pouch that has his components..........
reflex save: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 DC 25
... and grabs it. It seems to have survived the destruction. using his water bag to clean off the item, he wiggles his fingers to get the magic into his component.
With the magic taking effect, he finds it much easier to move and get to his feet. The rocks and building rubble just seem to fall off his body.
he gets to the surface.
Is Vestallena safe? who is still buried?
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren waits to see if W’Jack can unbury Adder, keeping an eye from afar (or high up), where the air isn’t awful.

When others are saved and healed and ready to move on…
If and when others are safe, Wren will cast Mass Fly on the group in the hopes of avoiding other, similar miss-flying adventures.
150 minutes of flying, peeps.
Bronin Dohari |
Rarely (if ever) has Lord Bronin been greeted so warmly by this party. It's as if they were concerned about his health and vitality. Even Wren has concern over her chickadees.
Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate that you have a wand at the ready to help. I'll take a jolt from that item, but we'd better check that Adder is healthy and whole.

As you again begin making your way toward the tower at the center of the ruined city, Adder, Bronin and Vladlena notice something concerning -- the shape of a dragon perched on it side. A moment later, it leaps off the building, winging it way into the city.

Wren the FeatherMage |
"What do you mean you didn't see what color it was?" Wren looks very confused Adder, Bronin, and Vladlena. "All of you saw the thing and not one of you can remember the color? It seems like that would be very easy to remember!" Wren gnashes her yellow crooked old elf teeth in frustration. It was going to be hard to keep her little chickadees alive if they were trying to make thing difficult, and frustrating their ability to prepare for threats.
1d4 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17 # Eyes
She casts Prying Eyes and sends 4 pairs (keeping 7 for later use) to follow the dragon and get the details of where it is going (or to find it) and return so she might see what is what.
Bronin Dohari |
Yes, I can probably do some sneaking. Especially with our ability to fly. I can help make you disappear too.
He hands Elena a potion of invisibility.
Wren the FeatherMage |
"Just wait a moment, and we'll see what my little eye-birdies come back with. We just might gain some knowledge of this place, and be able to make a good decision about where to go next," Wren coos, hoping her eyes will return quickly.
Vladlena |
Sneak past a dragon? That's a bit wishful, isn't it?
She moves closer to the ground.
Wren, get your bony elven backside closer to the ground. If you skylark like that, it can see you. Lena says absently. She was worried. Some dragons were fireproof, so she had been told. The last one she fought hadn't been, but it also couldn't fly.

Wren sends some eyes out, but they return distressingly quickly -- it appears the dragon is coming toward you! Worse, Wren quickly realizes that the creature is far too skeletal to still be alive -- it's an undead dragon! She does spot some red scales, which gives a hint to its origin, however.
If it's what she suspects, it's likely going to be protected against any but good-aligned weapons, along with other undead immunities, will breath fire laced with necromantic energy inflicting negative levels. It can land on people to crush them. Oh, and it can consume the souls of those it kills, empowering its magic. It's very scary -- its mere presence inspires fear, even in those who are lucky enough to not know what it can do.
You have two rounds to prepare as it's on its way, but you don't have line of sight.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Don't forget that Wren has given you all the gift of flight, and I trust you all to look up and use the rules for flying if you do that sort of thing.
Wren will quickly explain about the oncoming dragon even as she speeds back and looks for a safe spot out of center of combat, casting Vanish...but not before she casts Haste.
Speak, Haste, Vanish, Run Away, that sounds about right. Moving back about 120' from the main section of the goon squad.

I had better make my weapons heavier, so they can slice through that tough skin of the undead dragon easier. I don't think it'll go major damage, but maybe it'll be redeath by a thousand cuts.
He casts Leadblades, and uses his scabbard to bump up the Short sword to +3 for a short time.

You finish making your preparations with Wren-inspired haste as the dragon draws inexorably closer. As it comes close, Elena's the first to react -- but her spell has no effect on the undead horror! As it gets to 45 feet from Whiskeyjack -- still up in the air -- it breathes a gout of black tinged flame that washes over the dwarf 59 fire damage, plus 2 negative levels; Reflex DC 24 for half.

Round 4
With the dragon creature having gotten close, the party explodes into action, Bronin flying in close, sacrificing himself to the dragon's jaws 32 hp to land a sword thrust. The blade seems to cut deep, though perhaps not quite as much as the noble might have expected, but the fire doesn't seem to bother the monstrosity at all. Whiskey flies in moments later, but his hammer bounces off a patch of scales, barely drawing a contemptuous glance from the dragon.
It's enough to distract the dragon, however, and Elena and Lena's magic hit it full force, drawing a scream of outrage and -- maybe? -- pain from the horror. Wren's bolts hit it as it begins turning away, racing away from Lena and the combat! It withdraws! flying 400 feet away.

Ouch. That Misfortune, disintegrate combo hurt. Adder still has a Round 4 action, which could potentially have changed what it did (but I think a pretty small chance of that). But if not, I'm assuming it's 400 feet from Bronin and Whiskey; 430 from Elena; and 500 from Lena and Wren, considering how you were spread out and where you would have needed to be for your attacks. Whiskey, I don't know if you would have closed with it and risked an AoO or attacked at your reach; if the latter, you wouldn't have gotten an AoO as it withdrew.

Lena's acid arrows hit it as it continues to speed away, but aren't enough to bring it down, though she can see flecks of bone peel away from the caustic attack.
Unfortunately, Wren's eyes reveal that the sorceress may be right. The monster flies to a horrible sight -- cruel shafts of rusted iron protrude from the crumbling arches of old estate windows. The end of each hooked pole supports a huge, bladed cage full of what appears to be a dozen Varisians commoners. As they scream in horror, the dragon breaths, incinerating the poor souls ... and seeming to regain strength and power!
