Yes, I'll only do more than one if they seem especially relevant.
I don't think there is any guidance on what to do when there are no matches - Nadya's past :) Of course, knowing her past, maybe its just too confusing for even the Harrow deck to pull out a good example this time :)
Nadya Dimineata |
My vote is to check out some of these other leads before we go to the ship. Especially going to see Vencarlo. But, I also think we can try to see if that box was the only box or whether there is more evidence of similar things. We also don't need to break in immediately to get more info about the Hospice. There is good ole fashioned investigation to be done too.
GM Peachbottom |
If there is no match, just pick whatever you think will work best. Or if you want to go with Nadya's past is too confusing, I'm okay with that too.
As for going underwater, the spell water breathing or similar is the way to go. 1 min./level won't be long enough.
And yes, you have a couple leads now and even more leads will develop as you progress.
Finally, I may not have specifically written it in the gameplay forum, but Ishani made sure you got the payment before he left, so make sure you add the 200 gp each to your characters (except Lucien who is donating his money to the church for cures).

Nadya has access to air bubble, but it is also limited to 1 min/level. Assuming we do eventually go to the ship, she'll probably prep one as a last resort, but it shouldn't be the primary means of water breathing.

Nadya,
I went through your Harrow notes. Here are my comments and additions. Take them or leave them as you wish. I think you should have everything you need after this.
The Choosing
•The Brass Dwarf - Invulnerability to current peril, The Brass Dwarf shows an azer who represents invulnerability to a current danger. Although others might fall, he remains hale and strong. The Brass Dwarf can also mean a failure or dark fate for one, which in turn might save all others around him from a greater danger.
•People will fall all around her. She will need to find the strength to carry on to see things through to the end.
The Past
•The Winged Serpent (True) - knowing when to strike, knowledge and prudence are separate keeps bridged by understanding
•The Unicorn (Opposite) - friends are untrustworthy, betrayal, poisoning or a false friend
•Seems to refer to Devargo killing her former madam, consider how to tie disease into it
•This is good. Tie the two cards together. She thought to use her friend to create an opportunity to strike at Devargo but ultimately the plan had flaws and she failed madam Halvara and caused her to lose her life. But she shouldn’t despair too much. Halvara went willingly and perhaps knew that outcome better than Ayako.
The Present
•The Locksmith (Partial) - The Locksmith presents the subject with the keys she needs to unlock her destiny. He grants the tools to access a new location, clue or treasure. He does not grant insight into how or where to use the tools granted. This card often represents a strange, ancient or magical object.
•This probably should refer to the Soldado visit and perhaps the discovery of the disease box.
•Yes. The box is a key to solving the current mystery. Discovering the origin of the magic object should be her goal.
The Future
•The Courtesan (Partial) - political or feminine intrigue, The Courtesan is the card of political intrigue. Her mask embodies the social niceties that must be followed. If it slips, negotiations can take an unexpected turn. The card can also indicate a woman of power who shapes events. How she is treated decides the outcome of the situation.
•The Waxworks (Partial) - The Waxworks is a place of helplessness and physical entropy. The mind might be willing, but the flesh is frozen in this place of horror. It is also the card of torture and imprisonment, signifying literal inability to move or a paralysis of a more prosaic kind. Misaligned, this card indicates an abundance of energy at a crucial moment that changes all.
•The Courtesan should probably be the card that is read. Perhaps it is Ayako who helps to shape events.
•Also tie these two cards together. You see an attractive, pale-skinned, and ebony-haired woman, not unlike Ayako. Yet unlike Ayako, at her waist, her flesh begins to rot and wither away, leaving her little more than a blood-soaked skeleton from the hips down. The woman stands over the citizens of Korvosa. They are bound helpless and suffering from disease. As only a partial match, their fates are yet unknown.
The Choosing
•The Waxworks - helplessness and entropy, The Waxworks is a place of helplessness and physical entropy. The mind might be willing, but the flesh is frozen in this place of horror. It is also the card of torture and imprisonment, signifying literal inability to move or a paralysis of a more prosaic kind. Misaligned, this card indicates an abundance of energy at a crucial moment that changes all.
•Someone or something is spreading disease throughout Korvosa. Its people at literally rotting away. Nadya will play a critical role is stopping this plague.
The Past
•No matches
•Maybe the poison recovery or a disease in her past?
•Go with the Joke. The card that Zellara first used to summon her to begin this quest. Nadya’s past may have troubled her but perhaps she has finally defeated her nightmares?
The Present
•The Lost (Partial) The Lost is the card of emptiness and loss of identity. The bodak shown is forever mad, lost in a world of lunatics, insane asylums, and mass killers. For those under its influence, the world makes no sense. It evokes time where all is babble, as when meeting someone who speaks only in another tongue. Misaligned, it can indicate clarity of mind under duress.
•A lot of things are not going to make sense. Many forces are acting to sow misdirection. Will Nadya be able to put the pieces together?
The Future
The Brass Dwarf (Partial) The Brass Dwarf shows an azer who represents invulnerability to a current danger. Although others might fall, he remains hale and strong. The Brass Dwarf can also mean a failure or dark fate for one, which in turn might save all others around him from a greater danger.
•A dark fate awaits those of Varisian blood. Some seem stronger than the rest and a force seeks to destroy them because of it.
The Choosing
•The Teamster The Teamster is a driving external force that keeps the subject going, no matter what. This force can be physical or mental, as a person who exhorts others to continue on when they have no more strength to give. The force can be for good or ill but cannot be ignored. The half-orc depicted is leading a life of constant toil, but for his own betterment.
•Disease holds no power over Lucien but the same does not hold true for his allies. He may be called upon to keep driving them forward when they feel they cannot do so.
The Past
•The Rabbit Prince (Partial) The Rabbit Prince is a quirky fellow who represents the vagaries of hand-to-hand combat. The Prince is battle personified and nothing if not capricious. As his broken sword symbolizes, any combatant can fall in battle, no matter how brave or skilled. This card sometimes stands for younger members of royalty or other powerful households
•The Sickness (Partial) The Sickness represents plague, pestilence, famine, and disease. It can also indicate corruption of the soul or of a multitude of souls. If misaligned, The Sickness represents either great health or a chance to stop such a disaster.
•Combine the cards. They are a good match for Lucien’s past. He was noble born and trained in combat. But tragedy struck and his wife and daughter both died of disease.
The Present
•The Publican (Partial) The Publican represents fellowship and camaraderie, and a place of refuge for those in need. Most would find the cyclops inconsequential, but he had insights relevant to the reading or a quest. Misaligned, The Publican represents refuge unfound or false information given at a crucial moment.
•The Owl (Partial) The Owl represents the eternal wisdom of the natural order. It is the harsh realism that causes a pack of wolves to cull the weak in the herd. It is tragic for the culled deer, but through such actions the herd grows stronger. The needle The Owl holds binds life together, but just as easily can pick that life apart.
•I guess I’m just combining all the cards. Lucien has found new companions and he must provide wisdom and guidance for them.
The Future
•The Juggler (Partial) The Juggler represents fate, the gods, or those who play with the lives and destinies of others. If this titanic Juggler can keep up his rhythm, he will achieve his goals. But, in a misaligned placement, he falters, and tragedy and failure are assured for those whose lives he meddled in.
•The Vision (Partial) The Vision represents arcane knowledge. Such knowledge can take the form of madness or cryptic words. This card often means an encounter with a crazy person, but it can also signify a brush with genius.
•These cards represent a confusing future. If Lucian can’t juggle conflicting feelings and tests of faith they might just drive him mad.
The Choosing
•The Brass Dwarf The Brass Dwarf shows an azer who represents invulnerability to a current danger. Although others might fall, he remains hale and strong. The Brass Dwarf can also mean a failure or dark fate for one, which in turn might save all others around him from a greater danger.
•Sebastian will face many of his former acquaintances who have fallen. He’ll need to be strong or meet the same fate.
The Past
•The Cyclone (Opposite) The Cyclone is a force that tears through whatever it meets. This disaster does not come in the course of natural order but it one that comes from the plots of intelligent beings. The Cyclone signifies war, arson, or other plans that destroy everything they touch. Misaligned, this card can indicate renewal
•The Empty Throne (Partial) The Empty Throne has a sense of loss that is palpable. The ghost signifies that those who are gone will always be with us. They taught us important lessons, if only we choose to listen. This card can bring information from a far-off or ancient source. If misaligned, the ghosts of the past are restless and might require effort to set at peace.
•The Cyclone. There was indeed chaos and riots in the recent past. Misaligned the card indicates renewal. Sebastian’s idol Blackjack was missing for many years but his return may indicate a positive turn of events.
The Present
•The Peacock (True) The Peacock is a creature of astonishing beauty, but it is a beauty that can only be retained if frozen like a cockatrice's statues. Smarter people accept the passage of time and dance out of The Peacock's way. Its appearance always signifies a sudden personal shift in attitude or societal change.
•The Twin (Partial)
•The Peacock. Sebastian has been very trusting of the Queen and others perhaps frozen in his belief that the queen serves the people’s best interests. Perhaps his feelings are beginning to change.
The Future
•The Waxworks (Partial) -The Waxworks - helplessness and entropy, The Waxworks is a place of helplessness and physical entropy. The mind might be willing, but the flesh is frozen in this place of horror. It is also the card of torture and imprisonment, signifying literal inability to move or a paralysis of a more prosaic kind. Misaligned, this card indicates an abundance of energy at a crucial moment that changes all.
•The Idiot (Partial) – The Idiot is a card of grave foolishness and greed. It can mean bribery, blackmail, or naivety so grand it can see no evil. The goblins have captured a foolhardy man, representing the knowledge that loss of dignity can precede loss of life. Misaligned, this card might indicate feigning of idiocy to disguise one’s gifts.
•You see a pale elf dressed as a harlequin-harlot. She dances unseen among nobles in a masquerade ball. You sense an evil about her like another disease just waiting to spread. But it is but a vision and you cannot warn those naïve to her presence.

I'm just waiting for you guys to finalize your plans to get Trinia out of the city.
From my understanding, you are going to get the hippogriffs from the Great Tower and fly Trinia out of the city disguised as Ayako.
Are you taking Trinia to the Great Tower? Or are you leaving her behind and picking her up after?
Where are you dropping Trinia off? She is going to Harse (which is on the Map of Varisia) but even though it is one of the closest towns, it is still a ways away from Korvosa. You only need to get her out of Korvosa, you don't need to take her the entire journey. Also, the Sable Company probably won't let you take the hippogriffs that far either.
Vencarlo is supplying a horse and cart (with supplies) for Trinia to make the journey to Harse. Are you going to get that out of town so she can use it?
If there are any other details, let me know.
Sebastian Merrin |
That's about the gist of it. As for specifics, I propose that Sebastian (and maybe Nadya or Ayako) take the horse and cart out of the city while Lucien retrieves the hippogriff from the Great Tower. Lucien picks up Trinia (disguised as Ayako) from Orisini's academy. He has a friend with the Sable Company so it shouldn't look too strange. Then Lucien flies Trinia out of the city to the meeting place where the horse and cart are waiting for her and Trinia can make her way to Harse while the rest of us return to the city.
Lucien Endrin |
As I see it, flying Trinia out of town has only one problem: the Sable Company Marines will get suspicious if they see Lucien flying out of town. If that isn't an issue, though, the plan sounds solid enough. I suggest we do both of our tasks together. After flying Trinia out of the city, Lucien could scan the area from above in search of the wreck we're looking for.
Nadya Dimineata |
I'm good with that plan. So Ayako would fly back with Lucien once Trinia is dropped off? And we need a story for why three became two when Sebastian and Nadya re-enter the city in case we meet the same guard (probably that Ayako stayed in Harse).
Lucien Endrin |
Sorry for my absence guys, work was crazy in these days. I'm back now ;)
Lucien Endrin |
I've been out of town for the weekend and I'm going to be back tomorrow. Gonna have a post ready tomorrow morning ;)
Sebastian Merrin |
Sounds like a plan. Maybe split the party?
In other news, the Ultimate Intrigue is up on d20PFSRD.
Nadya Dimineata |
Ugh, my apologies. I completely forgot about getting the reading posted at the end of last week/weekend. I'm just about to head out for a six hour drive. If it can wait till mid afternoon, I will post today. If you'd rather just move it along, go ahead.
Lucien Endrin |
Temple of Abadar is fine for me. But I wouldn't mind paying Col a visit, either.
Ayako |
Might try slipping various creepy effects for my abilities.
Brain drain where I get my shake on
Dweller in Darkness Meet my little friend..ZALGO!
Gift of Madness. HE COMES!
Nadya Dimineata |
Wow, sorry everyone! Not only did I fail on the harrowing, but I also got completely swamped and dropped from sight for a couple weeks. I'm very sorry. Its just been nuts. I should get caught up today (tomorrow at the latest).
While I'm at it, I want to be sure that I let you all know that I will be on a family vacation in Italy, France and the UK from May 27 to June 14.
Lucien Endrin |
You're coming to my country Nadya! Hope you'll like Italy!
Nadya Dimineata |
You're coming to my country Nadya! Hope you'll like Italy!
My son is on a study abroad program in Torino right now and having a great time! I'll be arriving in Milano on May 28 and joining him in Torino to catch the tail end of the Giro. I'm still nailing down my plans after that, but I'm probably headed to Venezia on the 30th. My wife and younger son arrive in Milano on June 3 and at that point all four of us will meet up and head to Roma and Napoli before flying to France on June 9.
