Sounds good. I'll be able to make the checks with a Take 10 on all of them, but I'll have to wait on some until I hit higher levels.
Next downtime, can add:
False life
Gentle repose
Scare
Spectral hand
Cause fear
When I hit level 4, I can add
Darkness
And when I hit 5th level, I can add
Fly
Vampiric touch
After that, we can sell the spellbook back and it will still have
Water breathing (45 gp)
Blindness/deafness (20 gp)
Command undead (20 gp)
Scorching ray (20 gp)
Shield (20 gp)
Chill touch (5 gp)
Feather fall (5 gp)
Magic missile (5 gp)
Ray of enfeeblement (5 gp)
Sleep (5 gp)
Netting 150 gp (I think)
GM Peachbottom |
I think someone should really keep that ring of protection.
You also have 300 gp in poison to sell.
You also have a scroll of identify and command undead. Were you keeping or selling those? I think you were selling them.
The spellbook is still worth 260 gp after you remove the spells you want. 0-level spells add a little bit more to the price.

Sorry for the silence on my part guys. Easter holidays are always particularly hectic for me in RL. I'll catch up tomorrow!
Sebastian Merrin |
Sometimes it's fun playing the clueless idiot :D
GM, I'm sorry things got a bit spotty for me during the Dead Warrens. I have no problem whatsoever being botted. It looks like we're getting ready to fall over the Edge of Anarchy!
What is everybody thinking about downtime activities? Sebastian should follow up with Verik and Vimanda, train a bit with Orisini, and maybe do more patrolling with Nadya. I imagine the party will want to look into the Trinia situation in a bit more depth.
GM, we haven't tallied XP lately. We're probably still a way off from leveling up, but I was wondering if I would be able to take a 3pp feat when we do? Nonlethal Force would let me deal non-lethal damage without the -4 penalty. It seems the sort of skill he'd train with Vencarlo.
GM Peachbottom |
Yes, you can start planning some downtime stuff, but not just yet. There is one more event in this chapter. Trinia's Execution! But it is a non-combat event so I can give out XP and treasure now so you can plan ahead.
Everyone receives 4,094 XP which should put your new total at 9,178.
4th level was at 9,000, so you level up. 5th level will be at 15,000.
After selling the treasure you didn't need, everyone receives 1,336 gold and 5 silver. (This includes the 1000 gp [250 gp each] reward Cressida is giving you when you return to the Citadel.
Sebastian, typically I prefer to avoid 3rd party books, but I see no problem with the Nonlethal Force feat and will allow you to take it.
Yes, you can also consult Zellara whenever you want. You haven't taken much advantage of it but Zellara can manifest herself 1/day via major image. What are you consulting her about?
I did have a good Easter. It was my daughter's first Easter. She will be 1 in April. But I'm having a not so good after Easter. My sister is in the ICU. I don't need to go into detail but we're all hoping she'll be okay.

In-game business: Nadya thinks Trinia is innocent, Sebastian thinks she's guilty, and Ayako is on the fence. Lucien hasn't weighed in on the matter.
Question: how do we want to play this? The original recruitment indicated the campaign would lean toward horror more than usual, so letting Trinia be executed is certainly in line with that tone, whereas saving her seems more in line with the heroic fantasy romp that we flirt with. Do we want to attempt a rescue?
Out-of-game business: As I've already mentioned, thanks to Swashbuckler's Finesse I don't get finesse with a light mace. Instead, I get finesse with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons. Morningstar is listed as both Bludgeoning and Piercing. So I'm going to trade that light mace in for a morningstar. Pathfinder is so weird sometimes.
Level: +1 Swashbuckler
Ability score bonus: +1 Dex
HP: 6+2+1 = 9 (Favored class bonus)
BAB: +1
Saves: Ref +1
Skills: +5
Class abilities: Bonus Feat (Nonlethal Force)
Sebastian Merrin |
You can certainly discuss a rescue if you like. But keep in mind the whole event is in public view and heavily guarded. Or you can see how things play out. If you haven't looked at this part of the AP, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.
I haven't. I'm going to resist the urge. My money is on her being saved by a certain vigilante :D
People on Sebastian's list to talk to: Sabina, Vimanda Arkona, Orisini. In that order.
Lucien Endrin |
Lucien has been updated and leveled up.
He has made a stop to the Temple of Abadar in order to change his gold coins in platinum coins. He also used that circumstance to pray for a few hours and meditate on his recent accomplishments.
He had no time to shop in the city market, but he'll do when Trinia's execution is over.
Lucien Endrin |
Lucien can stop by the Temple of Abadar to exchange coins and bath and pray. But he doesn't have "a few hours". At most he has one hour. This diversion will consume his time to mingle and he'll arrive right around when the main event begins.
I'm fine with it ;)
Lucien Endrin |
Great post GM! It was a pleasure to read it!
Sebastian Merrin |
Curse of the Crimson Throne makes it such fun to play the fool! Conflict between blind loyalty to family and the monarchy versus blind idealism and hero worship. And then there's Vimanda. A smarter man would see that she's just playing him, and a wiser man would know it would only end in tragedy. But sometimes it's just more fun falling for the blatant trap.
GM Peachbottom |
Nadya, as the cartomancer, do you have any interest in doing the Harrow reading for Chapter 2? I don't mind doing it either, but I thought it might be something you'd like. The past and present, you'd already know enough about, and I can give you hints to use for the future.
You can tell me what you want to do in your downtime in the discussion or gameplay board. It doesn't matter. If it is something you want to roleplay out we can, or if it is just relaxing, that's fine too, and we can move forward.
GM Peachbottom |
Cool. So you can do like I did in Chapter One and roll dice for the card in each of the nine positions, plus one more for the roll card. Then you can plan the reading from there. It isn't the first thing that happens in Chapter Two so you'll have plenty of time to prepare. Instead of Zellara doing the reading, she'll channel her energies through you and give you insight to aid your predictions.

GM Peachbottom |
Nadya, here are some notes for the Harrowing. Let me know if you need anything else.
When you do this reading (which should only be done with Constitution cards at the choosing), take pains to interpret the cards from the past to dwell upon previous brushes with disease, sickness, and death the PCs might have experienced (be these drawn from their character histories or from events in “Edge of Anarchy,” such as the battle with the carrion golem or otyugh). When you get to cards representing the present, focus on metaphors that relate to the recent visit to the Soldados, the mysterious ship sunk in the harbor, and the general sense of unease in the city. For the cards representing the future, get grim—interpret the cards as dire warnings, mass graves, undeath, rot and decay, birds feasting upon the dead (to symbolize the Queen’s Physicians), and beautiful women with ashen skin and blank faces (to symbolize the Gray Maidens).

GM, I also found this feat as a non-3pp alternative to solve the lethal damage issue.

Hey everyone, I'm sorry for the lack of posts on my part, but I'll be busy with preparing a PhD exam until April the 12th. I hope that you will understand that I place the exame above everything else for the time being, so I'll be unable to post consistently until April the 12th.
GM Peachbottom |
Since no one else seems to have anything else they want to do during the downtime, I'm going to start Chapter 2.
Sebastian can finish up his meeting with Vimanda and decide if he wants to accept or rebuke her. No matter his decision, if he tries going back any other time during this break, he is informed the Vimanda is unavailable and is turned away.
I think I'm also going to try providing the enemy's ACs starting with chapter 2 so that you'll know whether you hit or not at the time of your post so that you can write your complete action without needing me to confirm it. If you think there's anything else I can provide to make posting smoother, feel free to let me know.

I'm very much in favor of this. Keeping elements like that hidden at the table do nothing but foster a sense of players-vs-DM in my experience, especially since the players typically deduce the number within three rounds anyway.

I have another PbP GM who does that and it works well. He also posts the CMD for the same reason.
