Isilme |
Caught off guard by the ferocious undead felines, Isilme cries out as the curst cat sinks its teeth into her. Pushing the cat off her, she stumbles back away from it, taking a moment to heal herself. She reaches up to the gash, blood streaming from it, thankful the creature had missed her jugular. She winces visibly as she touches the wound, but seconds later the wounds begin to close as she channels healing magic into the wound.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Regaining her composure she calls to the rest of the group, "Do not hesitate! They may have surprised us, but we can finish them quickly if we focus them down!"
Free Act: 5' step back; Std Act: cure light wounds Mv Act: Bardic Performance - Inspire Courage

No need to roll for the bull rush on Ary's attacks. :) You just substitute the attack roll she had for the bull rush. It'd be a lot less good if you had to roll again, I think. Cause just imagine a foe you only hit 25% of the time, it'd only take effect ~7% of the time, if you effectively had to 'hit twice'.

Ooh, hopefully that's enough to prevent us getting gouged :P
Don't know if I've mentioned this, but I am planning on taking Kule as a cohort at 9th and building him as a dedicated healer (He's already a life oracle). He'll also have some ability to change form, so he'll be able to accompany us pretty much anywhere. I think he's a much better fit for the group than a second wizard at this point, because we're sorely lacking healing ability.
Ehren Ferron |
Kule is a really cool choice! I like Aravashnial, but I agree about the wizard thing. Besides, not having him as a cohort gives Isilme someone to go back to. ;P
Hopefully by then we have a more permanent solution to his gaze attack, though. Energy drain is not very fun. I figure that it'd take a miracle or wish to reverse his transformation, but I'm sure that there are more clever ways to circumvent it. And of course, more healing resources would be very appreciated.
Isilme |
Yeah, I had talked to Kiora about possibly having a custom magic item that works like Cyclops's (X-men) visor (Or Lelouche's helmet in Code Geass) ;o
He's gonna be mythic as well, and have stuff like Faith's Reach and Abundant Healing, so he'll be able to put channel and his heal spells to good use during combat.
The drain has been a huge PITA. Hopefully we'll stumble upon a huge pile of diamond dust between here and the end of the book :P
Hinagiku |
You did mention. I and agree that's its a nice choice. I didn't know he had extra levels in a class though. That's actually pretty cool. Is his gaze attack part of the curse or does he have another one?
Also, any chance he will regain the protection from evil aura that unicorn usually shed?

Kule is a much cooler cohort than Aravashnial. Aravashnial is a great stay-at-home-dad type character, and I'm hoping that we can get his blindness cured. I also don't think that Xanderghul has ever met him!
Are we doing some special rules for Kule? He's got racial hit dice and racial abilities and such, does he get to keep those? What's his effective cohort level as a regular unicorn?

I'm glad y'all are excited about Kule! I actually added him into the campaign as a last minute decision (I decided Hormond needed a mount cause he's so slow, and the thought of a Theon Greyjoy-esque corrupted unicorn seemed fitting). I realized he could actually make a pretty cool cohort/mount if someone was interested so, right before you guys got into the fight with him, I ended up nerfing him so that he could function as a cohort without breaking the game.
On his gaze attack:
For Kule's gaze attack, I'm fine with a mundane solution that basically allows him to move around/target stuff but doesn't allow for his gaze ability to function (I'm thinking basically a slitted visor that prevents direct eyecontact). I'm also fine with a custom wondrous item solution that could allow him to basically "Cyclops" his gaze at people into a beam, though I'd need to give some thought as to how to balance such a thing. Probably (at minimum) by forcing him to concentrate to maintain it, so he can't be casting spells/attacking at same time as death-gazing people.
Right now Kule has to specifically avoid eye contact with people, so while he doesn't function as blind (he can still see shapes/motion through his peripheral vision), making the visual contact necessary to target a spell or attack puts everyone close to him at risk. Though for the purpose of touch cure spells, you can simply reach out to touch him to satisfy the requirements of that spell.
------
On protection from evil:
His protection from evil is currently active, and is actually why Mangvhune failed to shiv Isilme a few nights back. Kule sensed the demon entering the boundaries of his protection from evil, though in his half-awake state he mistook him for Hormond (their auras are of similar strength).
Unfortunately the deflection/resistance bonuses aren't quite as useful as you progress along ABP, though he's a useful guy to have around to ward against compulsions and whatnot ;)
------
On Kule's progression:
Kule is effectively a level 3 character from being a base unicorn. Right now he is effectively a level 6 character (3 from unicorn + 2 from Broken Soul Template + 1 Oracle (Life) level). He currently gets 5 levels worth of ABP (4 HD + 1 Oracle HD).
I'm using the Council of Thieves version of the Broken Soul template. The Broken Soul Template does not provide ABP bonuses, though it does provide substantial stat bonuses/defensive bonuses/feats etc so it is affecting his effective cohort level.
He still has access to his unicorn racial abilities (SLA/Su). The one exception is that his horn does not function as a good weapon (just a magical one), because Kule is no longer good, he is CN. If he were to become good again, he would regain his [good] gore attacks. His SLA CL will not scale, they are forever CL 9th.
The Broken Soul template can be removed using Miracle, or Wish or some sort of equivalent (divine intervention). Removal of the template will cause Kule to lose all benefits of the template (ability scores, feats, etc) - this would be reflected in game by basically replacing his ugly scarred body, with a fresh, beautiful, less resilient body. If he exists as a cohort at that time, he will immediately gain 2 class levels to make up the difference, which I think would make for a nice mechanical reflection of purifying his body/soul to its original state.
(Also by the time you guys are dishing out Miracles and Wishes 2 oracle levels won't hurt much)

I dislike the angercorn. He's a jerkface of jerkishness that ruins lives!
Spoiler: There's the possibility in Hell's Rebels of meeting a broken soul that's got a 'blind' over their eyes, turning off that particular ability.
OOh, ooh! We could wish Aravashnial's blindness onto Kule! Two birds with one stone! (I jest).
As for what I've been doing: Work, sleep, repeat, mostly. I've played a lot of Warframe, and thought a fair amount about RP, but have been really physically drained since they moved me from my old job to a new one.

Really cool. I love how much work you put in to making the NPCs fun and interesting to interact and play with.
And I'm in Xan's camp. Even if Isilme's not bringing Aravashnial along with us, I really want to get his eyes back when we can. I still feel so bad for the guy.

We could always just take Kule to Numeria and replace his eyes with some cybernetic eyes. And a few... other upgrades.

I support this venture.

Need Xanderghul to come up with a new spell to come out the tailpipes then, perhaps prismatic fog? :p
Edit: Re: Cyclops's Visor, didn't mean Kule would get a beam, just that he could control when people can and can't see his eyes. Would still use normal gaze rules if he decided to use them.
Edit Edit: He's not an angercorn Ary, he's an emocorn! How could you be so insensitive? You probably think all unicorns look alike don't you? :p
Ary Bishop |
*Looks at Kule* "Pretty sure no Unicorn looks like that." :P
Xanderghul |
Oh, I have a thing to talk about!
I may have the opportunity to travel internationally for work, to India to train some people. So that's cool.
Valaria Alazario |
Neat! India is supposed to be an interesting country. I hope you have time to do more than work if you go.
Ehren Ferron |
Ooh. If you do go, take plenty of pictures - it's not every day you get to go on an adventure like that. ;P

Uhm, I think the idea is 2 weeks, and my PGM mentioned that we'd have the weekend off.
I need to hurry and prepare for it because it's at the end of next month, but it's quite the exciting opportunity.
Hinagiku |
Nice! Anye plans to take some vacations there afterward? I find its always neat to get your plane ticket paid and then visit a bit by oneself.
GM Kiora |
That's awesome, I hope you get to go!
My profession doesn't typically see much overseas travel (medicine is strangely insular, and common practice varies from country to country) so I am always super jealous to hear stories like that. If you go, you need to share some stories/pictures with us, so that I can live vicariously through you ;D
Ary Bishop |
What will you be doing? Or is it something clandestine? :o
Ary Bishop |
Faith Damage (Inspired): 1d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10
Faith Attack 2 & Bull Rush v Yellow(Grazed, <3, Inspired, DW): 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 27
Faith Damage (Inspired): 1d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12
Faith Confirm? (Grazed, <3, Inspired, DW): 1d20 + 12 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 12 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 15
Radiance Attack v Yellow if in range, else Blue (Grazed, <3, Inspired, DW): 1d20 + 12 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 12 - 1 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 20
Radiance Damage (Inspired): 2d6 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 + 2 = 17
Ary was... surprised, to say the least. She half-expected something to go wrong in the process. But everything seemed to work out... well, sort of. The steam wasn't ideal, at all. And it was perhaps too late to get her allies out of dodge, well, most of them anyway. So she instead hammered at the cats, first with Faith, then with Radiance, seeking to batter them away, then take advantage of the size Xanderghul had afforded her - and the reach she needed to better guard her allies.
Ary Bishop |
I didn't read properly. Ary would have cast Endure Elements on Isilme, rather than herself, since they both suffered the effects of the cold at the same time, and she'd have prioritized an ally. So there's no change in how things work out. Editing my post!
Hinagiku |
Sorry, had to edit my last post because, for some reason, I haven't got the hang of previewing my post before posting it.... and important stuff happened between me writing my post and posting it.
Xanderghul |
Move one square up-right and three squares right, and then cast telekinetic charge on Hinagiku. She enters melee combat with the red babau (who shouldn't get an AoO, due to not having acted yet?) and gets an immediate action attack versus it with a +2 charge bonus. I want to put her immediately to its right.
Xanderghul |
Just a double move. And I really need to get something to help my mobility in rough terrain now that I think about it.
Here's a dip to fix that.
Here's a pretty sweet feat option to fix that.
here's an item option to fix that.
Ary Bishop |
Same for Ary. I can't imagine her being able to do anything but double move.
Ehren Ferron |
I knew I forgot something; not sure why I thought I could five-foot step. I'd been making it a point to prepare mass feather step every day... and then for some reason I didn't this time around.
Whoops. :|
Ary Bishop |
If nothing changes, Ary is at least two rounds away from doing anything. Feel free to bot her trudging towards the fight. :)
Hinagiku |
Just reread the telekinetic charge spell, and apparently Hinagiku could not have used the charge to attack as well as smite evil in the same round. Sooo....if changes need to be made, I would prefer dropping the attack instead of .

Cast raven's flight and then double-move into combat. I placed a little green dot where I want to go. I can move 100' and I go four squares right, angling up to get four squares up at the same time (15' per square) and then eight squares up.
Hinagiku |
So, what's the plan? Cause I don't think Hinagiku can last many rounds against the babau, summoner and eidolon. I could always get her to escape their attacks (jump down the cliff).

Aight, I'm going away for the weekend again. Here's a pre-roll. If we keep going, Xanderghul wants to keep 15' away from all enemies. If there is an enemy with 20' of him that isn't entangled, he uses binding darkness. Otherwise he shoots his crossbow.
Crossbow vs. Nabasu (Inspired, Bane): 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 21
Damage (Bane, Inspired): 1d8 + 1 + 2d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (5, 3) + 2 + 2 = 16

I'm going to guess that using Charmed Life won't help me not be blinded.
