It is truly based all on how you plan on playing, there is no real right way to play a character. But, generally for every class in order to get a decent bit of flexibility it is nice to have two decent stats. I had a paladin with pretty low con myself once but depending on how you plan on playing that can be not an issue.

An archer paladin doesn't really need high Con...do they?

That, would be quite correct. Stay back with a longbow and let the melee do all that dying for you

Well she is a bit lean, not really muscular so that could be her flaw right there. I can alway take toughness and increase the con score everytime I get the chance to do so. Still if I can get everything done tomorrow which judging by the look of what time it is, is highly doubtful, I will try playing a tiefling paladin with a con of 7.

Hm...never played an archer paladin before. I've always tried playing them in melee. Might be fun.

Funny story that may help. The first paladin I ever played had pretty bad Dex (I think it was 8 or 9) and relied on wearing really heavy armor and a big shield to handle AC. It's not a common place to put low numbers, but it could work out.

If I remember correctly, Rakshasa-blood Tieflings have +2 Dex, +2 Cha, and -2 Wis so try the 8 in Dex (puts it up to 10 so no penalty) and try the 7 in Int.

That would make your stats:
16
10
13
7
12
16

That's pretty workable for a paladin. It's not perfect, but it's not bad. I can't tell you how to build your character obviously, but that's my idea.

EDIT: The archer stuff hadn't come up yet when I wrote this, but that's another good idea. Archer paladins are interesting and can be fun.

Thanks so much for working so hard on your submissions, everyone. I really appreciate it. :)

Hmm... That's actually workable too. I have too cool ideas here. I had originally intended her to be wearing armor especially since I'm taking the tough skin trait. I'll go with the low dex score idea. I do plan on playing an archer paladin soon as well. Heck I'll keep that in my mind as I remember seeing several open recruitments as well.

Thank y'all for helping me out. I appreciate it and sorry for being such a bother! It's been a while since I rped (several years actually) so I'm a bit rusty.

Annabelle the Unbroken:

Twenty-five years ago, a young halfling girl was born to a slave family within a Chelaxian household.

At a very young age it was very, very apparent that she would never grow to be strong, even for a halfling. She was incredibly weak, so she found ways to keep herself out of trouble as much as possible. She was well-spoken and bright. It did not hurt that she also managed to look like a young human child almost all the time. There were several moments in her youth where she had to talk her way out of major troubles...and she did so very, very well. Because of this, she managed to learn quite a bit more than the average slave. Picking up the languages of the very Devils that her Masters bargained with. It was also her keen intellect and glib tongue that allowed her to learn about the nobles around her...making her more valuable to her Masters, though she had to be careful about revealing how much she had picked up, as to not become troubling, as well. She always knew just what to say and how to say it, in order to get the information she needed... Affable Trait

After her fourteenth birthday, she realized there was no hope of her finding a happy life in her current situation. Even if she could talk her way out of trouble, there was little hope that she could live a good life as a slave. It did not help that she was troubled with dreams. Dreams of a beautiful warrior who would stand by her side and protect her. Those dreams wavered between being a winged champion and or a stoic earthbound guardian. Either way, there was something otherworldly about the creature she dreamed of.

She took this to mean she must escape, so she found herself in league with another slave, a young human boy, who had friends within a halfling freedom group, the Bellflower Network. She got what she wanted rather quickly...however, in the end, it was near the edge of her Master's estate that it all happened. She thought she was free, when a whip cracked and wrapped around her wrist. With a scream of fear and pain, she turned and as she did, he was there. Her guardian seemed to appear out of nowhere, right out of her dreams...and into the reality. The guardian quickly slashed through the whip's cord and glared at her owner. The man cowed before the radiance of the creature and stepped back, and as he did, the guardian spirit stepped between them, and Annabelle took that as her moment to leave. What she did not expect was her guardian to follow her. Freed Slave

Somehow or another, a creature from another plane had come to save her. And she knew him from her dreams. Once they were outside the estate, he scooped her up and began to carry her to freedom.

For the next year, Annabelle and Marius (her guardian, whom she named after the boy who had initially rescued her) spent their time helping the Bellflower network to free other slaves.

It was then that the dreams began again. She was plagued, night after night with several different images. The most disturbing was the bug-shaped demon lord. She couldn't get past the fear she felt just from seeing the creature. She would wake up in a cold sweat, and because he vanished when she slept, Marius was never there to comfort her. She would see things in those dreams that she could not explain. The visions filled her dreams night after night, but occasionally there would be something good. A beautiful black butterfly bursting through the night to protect her from the evils that she dreamed of. It was later, while talking to Marius, that she found out that the butterfly was actually a deific being...The Black Butterfly, a creature of Desna. And that he was there with her because she was chosen by The Black Butterfly to help people find freedom. The freedom that she was chosen for, was the freedom from the expansion of evil near Mendev. She was to help fight off the demonic forces, and he was going to be there with her every step of the way....

The specifics:

Annabelle the Unbroken is a Halfling Summoner, with an Azata Eidolon. She is a Chaotic Good follower of Black Butterfly, who is actually a chosen of the Empyreal Lord and that is the root of her power. She will follow the Archmage path, if she survives long enough to reach mythic status.

She has long been touched by her benefactor and her magic, her guardian, and her visions are all results from the touch of Black Butterfly. It is due to these visions that she and Marius have found their way to Mendev.

Annabelle is a talker. She is great with people and getting people to accept her and her views. She is not one to take control of others, just convince them that she is right. Her words, her life, her experiences, and her visions are all ways that she talks people into seeing things from her side of things. However, she is very much willing to stand near a battle and help turn the tide as much as she can with her spells.

It should be noted that Annabelle is weak (5 Str) and often times, it is her companion, Marius, that carries a bulk of her weight (sometimes, including her) and that without him, she will have a hard time getting her gear from place to place. Thankfully, her magic comes from within. She will help in combat largely through her Eidolon and later through spells (Early on, Summoner spells are pretty rough), but importantly enough, she is also a great party face.

Best of luck, everyone. :)

I apologize for being unable to finish in time. My errands, housework, and gardening are taking much longer than I thought. I wish to thank Kiora for this opportunity and I apologize for being unable to make the cut. I also want to thank everyone who helped me in working the stats I rolled and for the wonderful ideas. And while I might not be able to play I will continue to watch this adventure unfold!

I wish everyone good luck and I hope Kiora will run this ap again in the future! Good luck and thank y'all for everything!

Definitely looking forward to it. I've been looking at my roses all morning trying to figure out how to draw a glass rosebush for wren.

No, just determined and it's keeping me from fretting about recruitment.

Darn, :(

Work was full of meeting this morning or I would have finished my submission for Ferias, champion of Irori.

Ferias' concept:
When your nine years old, the child of two Crusaders, and living in Kenabres, along with many other children of crusaders, you feel that every day is a day of excitement. Even though war is going on all around you, usually you don't understand how easy it is to suddenly be a victim of the war with the forces of the Worldwound unless you experience it firsthand. That’s how it was for Ferias. His mother was a Paladin of Irori, and his father a “Witch Hunter” in the name of Iomedae. When they had duties that called them to the front, they would leave Ferias in the care of his grandmother who served as a nanny for a large group of children. This worked out well, as the children were well cared for. That is until the day the shadowy figures came. They spoke with Ferias’ grandmother and she smiled a vicious smile as she let them take the children, one after the other.

All Ferias remembers of the next two weeks is screaming, blood, howling and heat. While he saw several of his friends be sacrificed over the course of time, when it came time for the cultists to offer him to their dark demons his and the remaining children’s lives were spared by the arrival of Ferias’s father alongside several other hunters. The hunters eliminated the cultists, but fearing their influence might still be unknown over the children, made arrangements for them to be taken in in other locales. For Ferias, he was sent to the Houses of Perfection in Jalmeray, where his mother had spent time training.

For the next decade, Ferias was cut off from all that he had known, orphaned in all but theory. For over a year after being sent to Jalmeray, he survived on his own, unknowingly under the eye of House members. Once he had proven he had the will and capability to survive, a master was assigned to guide him on the path of knowledge and perfection. After more time serving the House, he began to have what he could only term encounters in his dreams with a large dour Stone Giant accompanied by an intelligent white tiger who glowed with a celestial aura. They began to appear on the edges of his dreams when he would dream of being home in Kenebres and overlooking the Worldwound, dreaming of it conquering the city, obliterating it with his grandmother leading the battle. He would awaken, screaming and sweating at first, but as time went by, the giant and tiger would be closer and closer to him and his fear and panic grew less and less.

Ten years to the day he of his entry into the houses, he had the dream that made him leave and return home. In this dream, he saw his mother approached by his father, only his father had a shadowed visage, one that combined his father, the giant and the tiger. After their coupling in the dream, he watched what he knew was his own birth, only his own face was now shadowed by the figures. When he told his master of this, his master told him it was clear that Irori himself had hand in Ferias’ conception and birth. Because he had been born in Kenabres itself that that was where he would find his destiny. And so, gathering up his things, Ferias began his journey home, joining the bands of crusader hopefuls flooding the city. Once there, he found his childhood home a burned out shell and that his possessed grandmother had killed his father and fled the city years ago.

Now, he searches for a way to prove his dream of being Irori’s Champion a reality by becoming a Crusader himself (even though a part of him is unsure he is up to the task).

Good luck and I'll be keeping an eye out for another chance. :)

I'm pleased to announce my players are:

Archmage: Leinathan's Markus the moroi-born dhampir death mage, descended from the Whispering Tyrant himself.
Champion: Kamenhero25's Valaria Alazario the pitborn tiefling flying blade swashbuckler, who is blessed by Desna but haunted with troubling dreams.
Guardian: Choant's Hrut Ingvarson the Ulfen human warden, who was tortured by the followers of Minagho before being exorcised by the Empyreal Guardians.
Hierophant: Mahorfeus' Ehren Ferron the Kellid human menhir savant druid, who draws power from the ley lines that connect the ancient Sarkorian menhir stones.
Marshal: Hotaru of the Society's Ary Bishop the human ranger of Iomedae, who descends from a long line of crusaders who go all the way back to the men and women who served Iomedae before she ascended to divinity.
Trickster: A. Drallidur's Li'an Va'ardalia the elven Rogue (VMC Magus), whose blade Lleuad-a'r-Sêr sealed the soul of a powerful Raelis Azata whose form had been destroyed in a battle against Minagho in the first crusade.

Thank you so much for your submissions, everyone. There were some tough decisions made here. Should a player drop out, I will keep you in mind.

As for my players, the discussion and gameplay threads are open.

Congratulations to the chosen! I envy you, this looks to be a great game!

Congrats everyone, lucky you!

Congrats to all who made it. I started looking over the submissions after recruitment closed, very impressive work.

Consolations to all who didn't, including myself. Sad to see that my truly epic rolled 48pt buy is going to waste. On the upside I've got a character with a great backstory ready to go the next time someone decides to run WoR.

Congratulations everyone! Looking forward to seeing what happens!

Probably going to redo mine. To pcgen I go! But I read over your character and I was quite impressed by the effort you put in.

Congrats everyone, I hope it is quite fun for you all.

And i mightily approve of your other choices. This is going to be good.

Good luck to those who made it in, I don't suppose you want to run two tables GM Kiora? I kid, mostly.

I honestly considered doing it.

But I'd be doing a disservice to both tables splitting my attentions like that. I intend to work in some homebrew encounters for some of the PC's backstories, and I'd have less time to spend on that if I had 2 tables.

Congratulations to everyone who made it in! I'll be keeping my character for the next WotR recruitment as well.

@Ash I second that motion on the second table :p This is pure selfishness on my part as I really like my character and have been dying to get into a WoR campaign.

But I completely understand if GM Kiora thinks this would be too much to take on.

@GM Kiora I just want to strongly reiterate my desire to get in on this campaign if you should ever have an opening.

Happy gaming

Silver Crusade

well congrats to all that made it.

didn't really expect to get in anyway....

well if things change just look up Sabrina.

like I said before I now have a pretty solid application for another recruitment if one comes around.
