If we could negate its invisibility Peeko could follow it perhaps?
glitterdust?
charm person/ comprehend languages?
We can afford first level scrolls. Glitterdust is a level 2 I suppose.

Salonius Barradin |

Missed that somehow, but yes that is pretty clear, still not sure it would be a great deal of use tracking something down though?
Charm Person does not work on fey, would need the 4th level, I think, charm monster. Comprehend languages is probably willing only? I cannot imagine it would be willing.

Apologies for the delay, very scary yesterday getting mildly interrogated as a drug smuggler in Holland after driving my brothers dogs there. The bloody lab had eaten balloons and I work in a prison so they put 2 and 2 together and got, well, something in grams, or ounces. 10 hours waiting for drug test results on the blasted beast - he's a good boy really.

dude! that is perhaps the best excuse I have seen on the forums for slow posting.

Salonius Barradin |

Not one of my favourite weekends, only had to drive them because they were refused on the flight I was dropping my brother, sister in law, and nephew off for - they could not locate the microchip on one of them, not sure why the other could not go.
I get the old please Sir can you come with me and then they are laying a red and a yellow balloon down in front of me in evidence bags. And for just a second I am thinking no way he couldn't have, and then I realize they are just balloons from my nephews 2nd birthday party... Uggghh.

Isn't that what they always say, "He was a good boy"

Salonius Barradin |

LOL. I'll confess I would not want him as my dog, he is utterly exhausting, cannot be further than an inch from you no interest in other dogs, where as my own dog is just that little bit aloof.
Are you suggesting he was the real canine mastermind? ;)

I think we are waiting for Peeko to try to follow the tooth fairy!

Salonius Barradin |

I think we just all follow, seems like it would take up a good deal of time for Peeko to follow and given it can turn invisible and its very dark success seems unlikely.

I feel like Jhen (it's been a week) and Mels (a few days) have disappeared on us.

Meliandri Chastain-Aulamaxa |

I haven't disappeared. I'm just going through a rough spot. I'm going to take a bit and decide whether I can keep up the pace on this and my other games, especially with a few long trips planned over the summer. I'll keep you updated, but might not be posting today, either.

![]() |

If it helps, we like Mels and want you to continue! Also, the posting rate of the game has gone down quite a bit recently, so you don't need to fret about not keeping up. At least, that is my 2 cents.

Meliandri Chastain-Aulamaxa |

I think it’s time for me to admit that this just isn’t a priority right now. I’ve been on the forums for nearly four years, and the oldest game I’ve GMed is 3 years, 2 months old. I’ve played a lot of cool characters, but my heart just isn’t in it at this point in my life, and it’s unfair to everyone to wait for me to not post, so I’m going to drop my games for the time being.
The games I’m in right now are really cool, and it’s got nothing to do with them, or with their pacing. I’ve enjoyed the different characters and the different players. I’m currently working on dealing with depression, and as I come out of that, with moving into a new career path that’s more fulfilling than what I’m doing right now. I’ve also reconnected with some old friends, and am spending more free time doing things with them.
There may come a time when I’m back on the forums, and when I am, if you’re interested in having me back, I’d love to rejoin. It’s been fun, and I’ll see you all around.
Thanks for the games.

Foxy, if you are interested, I could get my brother-in-law (new to PBP, old to Pathfinder) to come in as my missing friend Logan Hawkes. Maybe broke out of prison? Idk. Let me know if you are interested and we could figure it out.

Would be nice. Definitely better than killing the guy just to get your backstory cleaned up :P

Foxy Quickpaw |

I would kind of love someone to play one of Salonius's sisters, but it might be better as a pipe dream :)
Yes. Because having one of those overly protective bullies around while you do rebelling would probably be no fun. Or do you have a sister with different character in hiding somewhere in your backstory? One to steal horses with?

Ok, if I had him make a character, would you take him? I am thinking a front liner of sorts. Fighter, paladin, barbarian, brawler, something like that. I do have to go back to my original backstory and see what I said about Logan. He was meant to be the Watson to my Holmes.
He is a good writer, and will fit in here well.

![]() |

Ok, thanks. I just didn't want him to put a lot of effort in only to get shot down. That happens on the boards a lot, of course, but I don't want to be directly responsible.

Foxy Quickpaw |

Characters created with WBL tend to come out in front of the rest of the party. Depending on the upbringing of Dr. Watson you can go for WBL respecting the rules for how much to spend on what (approximately). Or you stay behind that if he is just a normal working class guy and give him some heritage mwk weapon or something on top of the normal starting wealth for level 1 character. Your call.
Table: Character Wealth by Level lists the amount of treasure each PC is expected to have at a specific level. Note that this table assumes a standard fantasy game. Low-fantasy games might award only half this value, while high-fantasy games might double the value. It is assumed that some of this treasure is consumed in the course of an adventure (such as potions and scrolls), and that some of the less useful items are sold for half value so more useful gear can be purchased.
Table: Character Wealth by Level can also be used to budget gear for characters starting above 1st level, such as a new character created to replace a dead one. Characters should spend no more than half their total wealth on any single item. For a balanced approach, PCs that are built after 1st level should spend no more than 25% of their wealth on weapons, 25% on armor and protective devices, 25% on other magic items, 15% on disposable items like potions, scrolls, and wands, and 10% on ordinary gear and coins. Different character types might spend their wealth differently than these percentages suggest; for example, arcane casters might spend very little on weapons but a great deal more on other magic items and disposable items.

He is working on a brawler type character and hopes to get it to you soon, Foxy. Will post it in the recruitment section. That will get us back up to four characters with the somewhat classic fighter-rogue-cleric-wizard party archetype. Though only S really fits that description. Will that be enough?

now that I'm standing in front of Mel's mother... I don't know what to say. Would it be accurate to say that she jumped onto a boat along with her friend and the maid?

Hello Foxy (and everyone else too)
Saul messaged me last night IRL and said you're short a front-liner and that he had a character, Logan Hawkes, who could fit easily into your game.
I've rolled up a brawler that I think will do the trick. I'll put the crunchy bits in a spoiler at the end of this post. Unfortunately, real life call at the moment, and I won't be able to write up a fully detailed backstory until late tonight. I've got some of the highlights done though, so I'll put those in a spoiler too. That way, if you've got some pointers or changes, I can add them in right away.
I do have two questions: (1)Can you take a look at my equpiment? Saul mentioned some kind of family heirloom mkw item but I don't really know what would fit the best with the story and the rest of the characters. If you have a suggestion, that'd be helpful. Also, (2)if you could weigh in on my alignment. I'm leaning toward CN over CG right now, as Logan is going to be a bit of a drunk with little desire to change. If you have a suggestion, I'd appreciate that too.
Thanks!

Dodge [Paizo Inc. - Core Rulebook, p.122]
Your training and reflexes allow you to react swiftly to avoid an opponent's attack.
You gain a +1 dodge bonus to your AC. A condition that makes you lose your Dex bonus to AC also makes you lose the benefits of this feat.
Improved Grapple [Paizo Inc. - Core Rulebook, p.127]
You are skilled at grappling opponents.
You do not provoke an attack of opportunity when performing a grapple combat maneuver. In addition, you receive a +2 bonus on checks made to grapple a foe. You also receive a +2 bonus to your Combat Maneuver Defense whenever an opponent tries to grapple you.
Improved Unarmed Strike [Paizo Inc. - Core Rulebook, p.128]
You are skilled while fighting unarmed.
You are considered to be armed even when unarmed-you do not provoke attacks of opportunity when you attack foes while unarmed. Your unarmed strikes can deal lethal or nonlethal damage, at your choice.
--------------------
Caretaker [Paizo Publishing - Ultimate Campaign]
As the child of an herbalist or an assistant in a temple infirmary, you often had to assist in tending to the sick and wounded. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Heal checks, and Heal is always a class skill for you.
Ex-Asmodean (Ex-Asmodean ~ Save Bonus) [Paizo Inc. - Hell's Rebels Player's Guide, p.10]
You, or perhaps your family, were once worshipers of Asmodeus, but something happened that made you lose your faith. Perhaps your family was asked to give up something dear as a sacrifice, such as the life of a newly born brother or sister. Maybe the church used your family as a scapegoat to cover up a crime someone higher in the church committed. Or perhaps you simply met someone who opened your eyes and showed you the truth-that Asmodeus does not care for his followers, and that the deity of your new religion does. In any event, you left the church, and as a result, your family was punished; they were either put in prison, exiled from Kintargo, or perhaps even executed. Ever since, you've vowed to some day get revenge against the church. Choose one: you gain a +1 trait bonus on attack rolls and weapon damage rolls or you gain a +1 trait bonus on the save DCs of your spells against agents of House Thrune and worshipers of Asmodeus, including most (but not all) devils.

Hello Logan.
After Saul's description I was expecting a well dressed Englishman, interested in listening to knowledgeable deductions. That picture go trashed quick :D
I guess brawler means mostly unarmed fight. It isn't listed, but by my calculation you'd attack +6(1d6+4). Your BAB is given as +4 but that number matches neither BAB nor your full attack bonus. That is not bad, especially when you get to make full attacks and can hit two times.
As for the heirloom weapon. I told that it makes no sense story wise for you to start with 1000 gold. To not leave you with 170gold at 2nd level
I suggested to buy some standard stuff and add a mwk weapon as a heirloom to get you something useful that brings your wealth up with a good reason, even if you're a drunken dock worker.
Now you chose a guy who fights unarmed. I don't know if the item is meant to be used that way, but you could add a set of masterwork, silver brass knuckles. That would add +1 to your attack, get you a silver weapon, which is a nice boon in a devil heavy campaign and would stay in line with your preferred fighting style. Thing would cost 321gp. Why that would be the thing you great grandfather passed on as heirloom I'd leave to you.
Also being drunk doesn't hinder you being good. And there are quite a few sober evil guys in town. Ask yourself what Logan would do if a stranger gets robbed in the streets. If you'd save the guy you're good. If you only save the guy, if there is some benefit in that for you, but you don't really care, then you'd be N. If you wait for the first guy to be robbed, to beat down the robber afterwords to get both purses, you're probably evil ;)
I guess you're planning to walk into Saul's door once you're ready?

I didn't want to force my Dr. Watson to actually be an upstanding citizen... It seems in this version of the master sleuth's saga, he spends his time convincing Watson to get his life together rather than the other way around.
As for alignment, after some thought I would encourage chaotic good. (I initially describe Logan Hawkes as a loud mouth who protests the government more than he should. That does sound like a drunk, but also one who is good at heart given the evil tendencies of our wonderful government).

![]() |

Ah yes, for HP past level 1, Foxy had us go 1/2+1 the Hit Die, correct?

![]() |

Alright, I think I've got everything set.
I'm going CG for now, however I'm not opposed to changing that over the course of the game. I also thew in those sliver brass knuckles, as an heirloom from my grandpa that I found in a trunk one day.
My BAB was a typo and should be +2 and not +4. That's been changed. I also changed my HP, as per the previous couple of posts here. I'll put the background, appearance, and updated attack stuff in spoilers below.
My idea right now, is to wake up on Saul's doorstep with a hangover once everything here passes inspection.
Unarmed Strike - 1d20 + 2 + 4 + 1 BAB + STR + brass knuckles
Unarmed Stride damage - 1d6 + 4 STR
Dagger hit - 1d20 + 2 + 4 BAB + STR
Dagger damage - 1d4 + 4 STR
Logan Hawkes has been in a lot of fights over the years, and it shows. Likewise years of hard drinking have taken their toll on his body. His skin is ruddy. His nose is red. His face and body were marked with scars and bruises in various stages of healing. He's not too tall but thickly built. He'd appear more muscular if not for the extra weight around the middle, a side effect of all the drinking. His knuckles are calloused from years of bar room brawls. He carries few weapons, save for a dagger that he uses as a knife more than a weapon. He mostly relies on his grandfather's old silver brass knuckles and his dan bong. Neither are strictly weapons, but do a good job of helping with hand-to-hand combat and grappling with other drunks whether in the street or in a bar.
Logan Hawkes has lived in Kintargo all his life. Although some wouldn't really call what he does "living", at least not any more. He did at one point though. His parents were high up in the priestly order of Asmodaeus. They were two of the few clerics who focused on healing the armies of the Dark Prince. Most of the Lord of Darkness' clerics used their divine energy to cause destruction. However, someone had to heal the wounded. That fell to Logan's parents and their small cadre of followers. Logan grew up helping out as best he could, carrying bandages and medicines and, when he was strong enough, moving paitents and crates of supplies. He was in and out of the Temple of Asmodaeus more than most kids ever were.
One evening, after Logan had turned thirteen, he heard his parents whispering in the next room. It seems that his father and mother had an opportunity to rise even higher in the order of which they were members. There was only one catch: they must offer a human sacrifice to The Archfiend himself. The sacrifice was to be a child who was related by blood. Now Logan's parents, healers though they were, were evil to the core. That was never clearer to Logan than that night when he overheard them actually talking about sacrificing HIM in order to further their power.
He had to make a choice and quickly. He resolved to run away in order to save his own life. It wasn't a hard choice. He never really fit in with the other devout worshippers of Asmodaeus. He could never find it in himself to choose the evil path. So, later that same night, he packed his few possessions in a pack. He made sure to include the set of silver coated brass knuckles that had belonged to his grandfather, a supposed member of the elusive Silver Ravens. He had found the special brass knuckles at the bottom of an old trunk and couldn't leave without them.
From there he struck out on his own, never seeing his family again. Later, there were rumors of his parents being reassigned due to not being able to provide a sacrifice. He supposed they were true, as his parents never bothered him. He lived on the streets, eating what food he could find and often going hungry. Eventually, he got good enough at stealing that his hunger pangs became a thing of the past. Where he grew the most, however, was in his fighting abilities. He was strong from years of carrying large boxes of medical supplies. After making a few mistakes and earning some bumpbs and bruises along the way, Logan began to win a lot more than he lost. He learned to use his strength to hold on to his opponent and pin them to the ground, rendering them helpless to defend against his powerful blows.
Throughout all of this, he remained haunted by the decision of his parents to sacrifice him to their god. Once he learned what it was, he never strayed far from a source of alcohol and stole that above most other things when he had the chance. He grew to like the fogginess it brought to his mind. He found he couldn't remember the details of his last night at home all that well when he was drinking. It became a habit.
Somehow, he was able to hold down a regular job lugging crates down by the Vashnarstill Shipyard. After some time, he was able to buy things and didn't have to steal hardly anything at all. He bought a small place of his own, and even got married. After a year of marriage, his wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Logan, of course, celebrated with so many drinks at the local bar that he couldn't really remember all the details of that night.
Even though he seemed to be doing well enough, his drinking was never out of the picture, likewise the fighting he had gotten so good at as a young man. In fact, the two seemed to go hand in hand more often than not. He would go to a bar, drink a rather impressive amount of alcohol (didn't matter which kind), and get into a fight. Then he'd wake up with a headache and a nice collection of scrapes and bruises. He figured he'd won, if only because he was still alive, but he was never quite sure.
Sometimes he'd go drinking with his friend Saul Gibson. Saul had done him a kindness once, finding his daughter after a terrible kidnapping. Logan didn't quite recall how that whole thing went down, being incredibly drunk through the whole ordeal, but his daughter was back at the house the next day. After that, he'd often buy Saul a round or five if he ran into him at The Thrashing Badger, their favorite bar. He even helped Saul on a few of the investigators cases. Saul took to calling Logan his partner, which was likely as much of a joke as anything else.
That was Logan's version of life. Help out with a case every now and then, work (when he was sober enough to remember he had a job), drink (all the time), and fight (see: drinking). It was because of that cycle that he got himself thrown in jail. One night, after again drowning his childhood in the best beer the Badger served, he picked a fight with the wrong person. He didn't know who the person was but knew it was the wrong person because he woke up the next morning in a jail cell. He nursed a whole lot of aches and pains for then next few days, actually loosing track of time in the process.
Then one morning, he was released, just like that. No one really told him why but he was escorted out of the jail and back to the relative freedom of the street. He made his way back home to find the place empty. His wife and daughter must have been out for some reason. So he went to grab a drink, only to find that the Thrashing Badger was nothing but a pile of ashes. This shook him up more than he expected it to. His wife and daughter weren't home and now the Badger is gone? Maybe Saul would know what's going on. But fisrt, a drink to calm his nerves...
