Hiya Fondo. What is happening in your neck of the paizo?
I’ve been pretending to be fey-cursed doll boys and frog princes online when I’m not playing PFS IRL. Right now I’m in Germany roasting alive.

Moonday, Erastus 20, 4714, part two
- Florence raises Zilchus from the dead, and there was much rejoicing.
- The party finds the last of the loot of the Cult of Areshkagal in chests and statues, ensuring they are truly destroyed as an entity.
- A few think back fondly on the gynosphinx, but all agree that it’s better to have Zilchus.
- The party rests hoping to feel fresher in the morning.
Erastus 21-22, 4714
- The party rises early and makes plans for a new day.
- They pack their ship, and travel south to the thriae hive - a two day uneventful journey.
- In the afternoon of the second day, the group arrives at their destination and delivers the Queen larva to an appreciative hive.
- Zizzira thanks the party and bestows a gifts, most especially to Nidhi.
- The party communes with the dead to get some answers.
- Leaving the thirae hive with their queen (larva anyway), they head back out into the desert toward Chisisek’s tomb.
Oathday, Erastus 23, 4714
- The party reaches the hidden valley of Chisisek’s tomb, and greets Tetisurah, still on guard there and awaiting Chisisek’s body.
- They spend the day with Tetisurah, and inter Chisisek.
Erastus 24-29, 4714
- The party travels back to Wati, avoiding most menial encounters thanks to their ship the Jharna.
- Berthing successfully, they meet with some of Abdur’s men and cart their goods to Abdur’s warehouse.
- They fill in Abdur on their recent exploits, much to Abdur’s surprise and wonder.
Wealday, Erastus 30, 4714
- The group returns to Abdur’s to pick up their cash and supplies! Time to shop!
- Everyone shops, some in groups, and meets at the Tooth and Hookah that night for chatting and planning when Ptemenib joins in!
- The party agrees to help the Church of Charisma as their agents once again and questions Ptemenib on a few details.
Oathday, Erastus 31, 4714
- The group heads into the Necropolis of Wati!
- They meet a few groups of guards and priests who aid them in their endeavors.
- By noon the group has done what the church set out to be done, and the group returns to give a report to Ptemenib.
Arodus 1-7
- Over the next week, the group relaxes and generally enjoys what Wati has to offer as they prepare to head to the Slave Trenches.
Fireday, Arodus 8, 4714
- Departing Wati the party fills the sail and heads upriver - only to be pulled back by an emergency missive from Ptemenib.
- Returning quickly to Wati by mid-day, Kosei provides lift as the party charges up to the pyramid floating in the sky above the city.
- The harpies prove to be more difficult than expected, but their abilities are no match for the party as they fall one by one.
- Kosei finds a map, which seems at odds with reality.
- The party investigates the statuary a bit, and discovers the secret of the Fang Tooth Tunnel as they make their way deeper into the pyramid.
- They make their way to the middle level and investigate a beautiful mosaic, which turns out to be a nasty trap which they destroy.
- The group also investigates the northern chamber which is also, perhaps unsurprisingly, a pit trap with tar and pudding, but not the tasty kind.
- Zlichus leaves behind an ass sculpture.
- Moving down the starry tunnel, the group reaches a statue of Hakotep, which is yet another trap, which Nidhi disables.
- A room of statues and a clay wall hiding a family fortune is all that remains on this level as the party moves on to the arch yet again.
- Entering the crypt level, the party first finds the Aeromantic Infandibulum which controls the flight of the pyramid. They learn too that the power for it is elsewhere.
- Moving to the main crypt, they finally encounter Isatemkhebet and a pair of harpy guards.
- She summons Kor-Ahn-Tuk, her gorgon, who turns out to be tougher to overcome than she herself as it turns half the party into stone!
- With Isatemkhebet’s death, the pyramid spirals out of control to a not-soft landing, damaging the structure, and those within it.
- Crawling from the tomb, those still soft, drag the harder members to the shore whereupon the rest of the group is turned back to flesh.
- The party makes their report to Ptemenib, and relaxes in the city overnight.
Arodus 9-16, 4714
- Riding the Jharna up the Crook, they make their way to the Slave Trenches, once known as the Khepsutanem over about a weeks journey.
- Arriving late-afternoon, the party decides to travel around a little as the wind, investigating the area generally before settling in near the Horus Sekrephere.
Sunday, Arodus 17, 4714
- The party begins in the trenches, well rested from Florences Fey realm.
- They start with a catalogue of the Sekrepheres discovering a waterfall of sand in the east.
- Kosei investigates behind the sand-fall discovering a tunnel into the rock, and an observer.
- Pressing on, the group finishes their catalogue of the Skrepheres, ending with Osiris.
- Backtracking a bit on Nidhi’s advice, the party discovers a huge Amber Chronograph, being studied by the gypsosphinx Khai-Utef.
- Agreeing to join forces, they hunt the mythic roc, Kenjutret. The dusk-taker.
- The group asks a couple questions of Khai-Utef before laying an ambush for Kenjutret.
- In a great battle, the party defeats the dusk-taker, with Florence taking the brunt of its attacks.
- Using legend lore, the party learns more about Kenjutret and the sand-fall. They have one more question remaining.
Moonday, Arodus 18, 4714
- Rising early near the beached Jharna, the party heads back into the Slave Trenches of Hakotep.
- They quickly discover a darkened doorway leading to the Tekramenet (Lantern Vault).
- After some trouble with the darkness, they enter and investigate the Great Receptacle, where the Life Lantern is placed.
- Nidhi disables an early trap and the party makes their way to a large chamber filled with graven guardians of Set!
- Besting the constructs who only seemed interested in killing the men-folk, the party descends below the chamber into the tunnels beyond.
- The insanity causing glowing green lichen lights their way, along with their own magical lights, as they encounter a haunt, and a geist!
- The geist Inkusehset slinks off into the earth and escapes being slaughtered at their hand after a frustrating (for him) and short battle.
- Overcoming three haunts by the end of the tunnel, they descend down some stairs into the Life Lantern repository.
- Kosei goes in first, triggering the symbol of insanity on the ankh. Though he stabs Zilchus, he’s healed by Florence’s scroll.
- Nidhi and Florence follow, with Nidhi pocketing the ankh, raising the ire of a childish extra-planar being who scrabbles at her until destroyed.
- On their way out, they encounter Tef-Naju, and strike a bargain, of sorts. At least a mutual peace.
- They collect and scatter the bones in the sun to let the haunts rest in peace.
Toilday, Arodus 19, 4714
- The party rises with the sun to watch the bones bleach and study the items they received the night before (ankh and chest).
- Investigating the statues, they place the Tribe-Eater for now, leaving the others in the case untouched.
- Using Kosei’s magics to guide them, and Florence’s magics to enter, the party begins their assault on the Sekrephrenet: The Monument Vault

What are you giving a talk about?
Geez! Thanks for asking!
Sorry about the delay, I didn't have much time to prepare for this.
Basically I talked about the process we went through to bring our run-of-the-mill High Performance Computing cluster (it's comprised of 500 individual servers plus extra servers with extra services) into a state technically and policy-wise to handle more sensitive data.
Examples of that sort of data would be employee ID numbers, data that falls under the level of protection defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act such as student records and ID numbers, and de-identified genotype and phenotype data.
There is a growing need for this type of resource on the University of California Berkeley campus.
We already had this cluster, so we thought -- let's use that -- and we managed to do it without disturbing our existing user base (much).
Our goal is to eventually build a system that is completely HIPAA compliant for those on campus or coming to campus who need that level of security for their data.
I see we've been busy here... :-)
... goes to catch up

Stelle, that's VERY cool!
Zilchus, nice car! Bigger than your last I think?
Nidhi, no, we don't have fewer cars here, at least not that I can tell. When we moved here, our car was checked to make sure it met CA standards. It did no problem.
No problem not leveling up until the weekend. Folks are out and the boards are slow with GenCon, Pathfinder 2 release, and travel. Totally cool.

That's crazy! My mom has a Camry Hybrid. In California you don't have as many car options, right? Because of environment laws. I hope Virginia implements some soon.
Way to go, Mom. The Camry is best in class.
What? No. We have *tons* of car options. It’s possible that you might have more, but I was worried about having too few options when I was searching for cars. In fact, I felt I had too many options. It’s possible that our environmental laws keep some models of some cars out of the state, but I dunno, I’m okay with that, but haven’t really heard of any model that I couldn’t get.
Anyhoot, I had been taking 65 minutes to get to work using public transportation and a decent hike. This morning? Using my sweet new ride? 23 minutes. 23 f@!*ing minutes. If I can save half that much time on my return trip home, I’ll consider the money well spent.

Edit! If you guys remember my PaizoCon Bloggery experience, you’ll remember that I met the Guest Author for the weekend. Here is (link) some of her work and *DEFINITELY* see her DVD commentary/comment in the discussion. It’s A+.

Good luck Florence!
I also want to announce my posting will be more sparse and considerably short from now to October as I am moving around and I don't know exactly how much I will be available.
I shall be still able to make short updates now and then, but just don't hesitate to bot me if it takes me a bit more than usual to answer.
GM Euan |
Thanks for he heads up - and good luck on the house hunt and move. Neither are terribly pleasant, but both can be fun when you're done.
Kosei Sharif-El-Sadad |
That's a life defining moment. I am happy you finally found something you both liked. Enjoy Florence!

Usually just give candy to the kids who show up. We've had a dog of one sort or another for most of the last 20 years, so it's always been tricky juggling the dog (~50 pounds of curiosity), the candy, and the scared children all at the same time. So I don't usually dress up to make it even more difficult.
This year though, our dog passed away at a ripe old age. So I might dress up again. I usually go as a monk as befits my girth, beard and hair.

Hey guys, I'm headed off to AVL Scarefest tomorrow and won't be back until Monday. While my time isn't booked solid I have no idea what the internet situation will be so my posting here may be slow or nonexistent until I return.
(I wanted to try and make one round of updates tonight but noooooo, internet is not being cooperative and my patience is limited.)
So, please feel free to bot or delay Flo as necessary, if necessary :)

Welcome back Florence!
While studying physics just post high school, I had the lovely privilege of adopting a cat. I was also known for doodling in my notebooks.
While taking a course in electronics, I drew a comic of this (now extremely spoiled) calico as she might have looked having a too close encounter with a 110 V house outlet. In the drawing she was very much alive, but her fur was standing on end and clearly singed.
The caption was:
"Spooky discovers Ohm's law."
It's all about resistance.
