I, too, with mis Nidhi, it is disappointing to lose her when we are so close to finishing...and after all this time together.

If find it strange when people drift away without even saying goodbye, as if our adventures meant nothing, and as if her absence wouldn’t be noted or missed.

I know I tend to believe different things about this silly game that we play together, and it probably means more to me than it does to others. Still, it is strange and disconcerting when someone tosses it away so callously.

But maybe something happened in real life. We never know, do we?

* * *

Zilchus is happy to toss irascible crocodiles at traps as well, if that helps. They are cantankerous beasts at the minimum and might finally learn some humility if they are tosses into a few pit traps.

Because we followers of the Great Croc are known for our humility, you see?

Very true, it could be that something else came up. Hopefully that's not the case though and that all is well. And hopefully Nidhi will pop back in, even if it's just to say goodbye.

I have a whole lot of feelings about this that I'm not really sure that I can properly articulate. But for what it's worth, this game and all of you - you as players & GMs, not just your characters - matter to me.

Oathday, Arodus 21, 4714
- Tef-Naju offers boons to the party, and most comply with immediate requests which he promises to fulfill.
- The party greets Ain-Mekh with derision and taunts as they decide how to approach the great pyramid of Hakotep I, the Forgotten Pharaoh.
- They investigate the various entrances, cataloging each before Kosei starts with Earth, eventually finding a secret passage in the floor.
- After briefly examining a large room apparently surrounded by a red acidic gel the group continues to a room filled with ushabtis (statues).
- The hissing next room reveals a trap which Nidhi, eventually, disables, the party moves on to find yet another trap before reaching the incense.
- This strongly smelling room was home to Eshen Theba, and their first pyramid - the topaz pyramid.
- A frustrating battle (for Eshen) ensues, in which the party is victorious after a brief hiatus.
- They play, a little, with the communication pillar though nothing seems to immediately happen.
- A short trip to the red-gel room before proceeding to the Air level. Life bubble keeps the poison at bay as the party enters the first lofty chamber.
- Summoned by Florences cantrip, the chaos beasts descend upon the party though they are quickly dispatched.
- The party carefully examines the central shaft, running nearly the height of the vast pyramid.
- Zilchus leads by descending to the lowest platform, which turns out to be the Prince’s crypt, before the party investigates the floor - and door.
- Climbing back to the upper platform, they find a mask sized indentation on a block. Using the Prince’s mask, they open it to battle thunderbirds.
- The stone descends and they enter the chamber of the emerald pyramid, and chat briefly with its guardian, Shendakut.
- Passing the riddle, they activate the emerald pyramid, opening the passage in the depths, and head back to the topaz pyramid.
- Activating the topaz pyramid they crash another four large pyramids and retreat back into the desert to rest.

FIreday, Arodus 22, 4714
- The party tries fire next and, to avoid a humanoid sacrifice, Nidhi disarms the trap and they enter the furnace!
- Overcoming the heat the group makes short work of the Mockeries of Ra, before being boiled by the lava.
- Deciding to leave the furnace alone for now, they head to the east, deftly avoiding three trapped chambers after a pair of criticals.
- The shrine of offerings is easily figured out as the party does a little looting before continuing on to a wall of force filled lava pool.
- Overcoming the walls of force with a bat, the party proceeds to the red stone block, whereupon Florence stands tall and opens the chamber.
- Inhetef the Nosferatu, and his merry band of flying archers do some harm to the party before falling to their combined might.
- Nidhi leaves for the ship.
- The group crashes the next three pyramids into the ground and activates the fire crypt portion of the locked gate. Only water remains!
- Wanting to be thorough, Kosei leads the party through the previously hallway to a large chamber - and a haunt.
- Overcoming the haunt takes some teamwork, and the hanshepsu is brought back as Florence claims the Mask for her own.
- Beyond a thin wall lies a hole-y sarcophagus which Zilchus stoneshapes open to reveal a modest treasure within.
- Descending into the water layer now, the party, especially Kosei, tries to engage the ferrymen, but they pole in silence.
- Statues are adjusted, reverted, and new statues found and adjusted all to open the watery chamber with the sapphire pyramid.
- The party keeps the fish folk on their heels as the battle rages in circles around the watery/not watery chamber.
- In the end the fish folk is bouillabaisse as he cannot overcome the combined might of the group!

This is your last level up in the campaign - enjoy!

Just as an FYI guys we had our first positive COVID-19 case here in my county the other day and so testing is ramping up at the facility where I work. My ability to post from work will probably be all over the place for a time and my ability to focus in a more general sense will probably be the same. Stressful, but of course it's stressful everywhere right now.

Take care! And ventilate rooms as much as you can, demonstrating it will take time, but given current evidence, it cannot be ruled out that the virus is airborne and spread through by just talking or even breathing. A cautious approach seems to wear mask and ventilate often to avoid high concentrations in medical facilities and other closed spaces.

Thanks for the understanding, GM.

COVID Stuff:

Life is weird right now and it's a slightly different sort of weird as an essential worker compared to the folks currently stuck at home. The two best statements I've seen to describe it are as follows (quoted verbatim):

'Trying to square my own life rhythms that are so close to being business-as-usual with this tremendous worldwide disruption is so psychologically uncomfortable.'

'Not that I’m not intensely grateful to have a job and to have the option of continuing to come to the office, but the sense that there’s this massive shared experience going on that I’m not part of is definitely present as well.'

Life for me is allllllmost normal...but just enough things are Not Normal that it's throwing me off-kilter. I'm very thankful to still have a job and to not have to worry about trying to WFH or figure out how to keep kids schooled/entertained, etc. but I'm also not chilling out doing YouTube yoga or getting involved in creative projects or learning a new language or whatever. I'm still working my FT hours at a job where things are changing day by day, where the scheduling has gone from, "Oh we're not busy, gotta cut hours" to "All hands, no vacation time, at least 2 people on shift at all times, even at night" in the space of a week, where everyone is on edge and tense and tempers are short.

It's definitely been affecting my sleep patterns and I've had a low-grade headache off and on for days. Concentrating on writing has been hard.

Blargh.

In more cheerful news, the co-owner (hubster) of our business (marriage) finally agreed that it would be okay to hire (adopt) a new employee (cat) to help catch up on all the sleeping and being cute that needs doing around here. Currently awaiting the arrival of the tools (cat supplies) that the new employee will need to be productive and happy and then we'll be able to start the onboarding (actual adoption) process.

:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

The only remaining question would be which prospective employee to inquire about. So many potential options! I'm especially fond of black cats and the rescue group I'm looking at currently has 4 or 5 at a discounted price. But I'm also a sucker for the harder cases too, like the declawed & FIV+ orange tabby that just got posted yesterday. Decisions, decisions...

I’m super excited for you. I can tell you from my acquisition of some 2015 models that I am still completely happy with them and they are still producing tons of cute and purr in my household. I have no regrets about either of them.

The name will probably depend on how old they are and whether or not I like the name they've had/been given by the shelter or rescue group. If they're not that old and I have a better name in mind then I'll probably change it but if I like the name they already have or if they're an older cat and have had the same name for a long time then I'll just leave it as-is.

And thanks guys :)

I find super-cool the chariot image and the scene of the encounter itself.

A pity we do not have the phantom chariot of the worms campaign (weird parallelism in time, like seriously what were the odds) to engage in a toe-to-toe chariot battle a la Ben-Hur. It would had been totally epic.

I had a player with a mounted archer fighter in a Horde of the Red Hand Doom set in Eberron about 4 years ago, and oh yes, it felt unfair at some points.

Idea for a future campaign character: a Shory aeromancer looking after the secrets of his ancestors civilization :)

Now that I think about it, that would have been very fulfilling for a Mummy's Mask campaign, given we found that very same technology.

As promised, a few pictures can be found here.

He seems to be settling in well. Aside from one or two little anxious meows as I was getting my seatbelt and such in order I never heard a peep out of him the entire hour & 1/2 drive home. And he got right to exploring my 'office' as soon as I let him out of his carrier - no hiding in there, no hiding under the bed, readily came to me when I called, even had a nap with me on the daybed, and murdered the bejeebies out of some cat toys for awhile.

I'd planned to keep him confined to the study for at least a day or two but after having to restrain him from following my husband out when he'd pop in to visit and listening to him meow at the door whenever I'd step out to go do something else, I decided to go ahead and give him the option to explore more of the house if he wanted. Which we did a little and then he promptly knocked something over in the kitchen and scared himself so here we are back in the study, but with the door open. Not bad progress, on the whole :)

Wow! Kosei blinded Mr. Hakotep! I was actually hoping to blind some of the shields to protect Zilchus and Stelle, but blinding instead Hako'p was a great turn out anyway :D

Question: What are the light conditions of the room? I was thinking to attempt dispelling Hakotep next, but with such a large room I fear Kosei's 60' darkvision might be not enough to clearly target him with non area spells. Is the "a golden throne that shines like the sun sits atop a raised dais" cosmetic or actual bright light?

Sorry, the room is well lit with continual light sconces along the walls and bits of the ceiling. So everyone can see fine. :)

Except me.

You have an interesting tendency to fail against Kosei spells when odds are good and succeed when they are terribly difficult for the critters :)

Your idea is so damned cool! I do not know where do you get all that but keep it coming please xD

Wow guys...I can't believe we're done. It's been a great joy to participate in this game with everyone, whether you've been here from the start or joined up later on.

This is my first AP I've seen to completion in the PbP format after seeing several fold at various stages due to life and inertia. So...another thank you for such a meaningful milestone!

I'm not sure if I'll post any sort of epilogue for Florence or not. Part of me feels that I should and yet another part enjoys leaving her future open-ended. I'll have to give it a think and see which option speaks to me the most.

Either way, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this grand adventure for the past 3+ years. I'll still be seeing Kosei's player over in his Shackled City game (maybe my 2nd completed AP, in time? :)) and will hopefully at least see the rest of you around the forums from time to time.

And if you ever need a player for something, feel free to look me up :)

Totally agree. This has been a great ride all the way through. Kosie and Stelle, thank you both for jumping in with 2/4/6 feet?paws? (not sure how to count the Stelle/Annie nor KoseiLion) and running with things. We don't complete without your energy.

GM Evilan, you already know that I think you are the best. And, of course, I'm right.

Oh, I see how it is. You delight only in Kosei's character, huh? Eidi? You like that one? Uh huh...

Marigold the halfling became ruler of Occipitus after a short meeting with Sarenrae. It is only fair she has a special eye for that one :)

I am happy we still have the Age of Worms game. You are a great group. I enjoy playing together and I think I have improved a lot in PbP thanks to mingling with you lot.

Sincerely, I never thought of playing Mummy's Mask and the campaign was already very advanced, but I failed my save against GM Euan's charm player spell. It really had a lot to do with already knowing how exceptional players you 3 are from our Age of Worms, and how exceptionally pleasant is to play along with Lady Ladile.

Although I knew this game was going to be a success, I took Kosei's reins with lack of confidence. Never played a druid. New character on an already mature campaign. High level play. A balanced party without an obvious empty niche. But in the end I am satisfied I found Kosei's unique and distinctive voice both within the group and among the other characters I have ever played. It really owes a lot to the Egiptian friends I made while studying my MSc (at least the way his talk sounds inside my head).

As the campaign comes to an end, it is a satisfaction to say this one has become one of my favorites. Those ones you are eager to check what is going on after a hard day of fighting with APIs, Webpack, Nuxt and many other stuff supposed to make your life easier.

Thanks a lot to Euan for thinking on me when the game needed new blood, and for his consistent effort to move the game and maintain an easy going atmosphere (and I will not forget to thank you for keeping the loot sheet up to date too).

Thanks a lot to IcePanda for being the memory of events past, inspiring us all, for your patience on Kosei's magic breaking your charge lines, and for encouraging my best posting with your likes.

Thanks a lot to Lady Ladile for her always positive approach, for her attempts to bring us together more closely, for her wits and focus, her funny respectful remarks of frustration and of course his patient demeanor with Kosei nonsense statements.

Thanks a lot to Painlord for his tireless push and general guidance, for being a rock where to lean on when things go wrong in combat or out of it, and of course for his many funny puns and gestures. My tent's door will always be open for you (and your applejack drinks, do not think bad) :)

Thanks all of you for being welcoming and accepting Kosei's eccentricity in your group.

Before, I had only ended a campaign I GMed in D&D 3.5 age. This is both the first campaign I end as a player and the first Adventure Path (and Pathfinder of any sorts) I hit the end with. Still ahead I have the challenge to end one day a campaign playing from 1st level to the end.
