Medusa's Mask to Rissi
OK-doke, I'll take it (extra saves vs. illusions and gazes are nice).
Sell the Impaler of Thorns
Sold
Sell the +1 short sword
Kufi, this your call. You are the one who might want the sword.
Sealman and Kufieno are due 12.6k. Rissi is happy to craft wondrous if you want something of that nature.
Also, sorry, I just realized I was having a special moment with that cloak. I thought it was a non-standard cloak. It is a regular cloak of elvenkind. Whoops...
Sealman Alerteyes |
Hey gang. I'm still here. Girlfriend went through a planned surgical procedure so I've been dotting on her. And then her "unstable" sister came to visit for the week as well and requires a certain amount of observation. She goes back home tomorrow. Hopefully then I'll have time to comb through my books and make my purchases & level up accordingly.
Seal will take the Ring of Jumping & Golembane. Normally items such as Golembane are included in the adventure, they will be needed later on. If Miana or Kufi isn't going to use the adamantine longsword, I say sell it. The custom weapon Seal is building will be adamantine in nature. I also say sell the ammo. They are worth more liquidated then their one time use by a group of non-archers.
Rissi, can I get a heads up on what total Seal is getting?
Is it 11,299.51gp + 12,600 gp or just 12,600 gp? I just want to make sure the accounting is right.
Again, thank you for taking care of bookkeeping. I know we've said it before, but you should know its appreciated. This is why I'm not running Kingmaker right now =v)
Hidetsugu Rissi |
(Doting, maybe?) Speedy recovery for your wife! Hopefully it does not impact your holidays :)
No worries on bookkeeping. I'm happy to do it in any game where folks are relatively cooperative minded. I'm not sure it's working out in all the games I'm in - some I'm tempted to switch to a PFS model.
Anywho, sold the adamantine blade.
In absence of input:
Kufieno, you now have Ring of Force Shielding, Sihedron Medallion, Cloak of Elvenkind, Shortsword +1 (Yes, I know, you know have cloak of resistance as well as cloak of elvenkind and the sihedron medallion - lots of duplication)
*************************88
New totals (note, this is the total, not additive to previous values)
Party Fund 9853.23
Hidetsugu Rissi 2,552.80
Kufieno 12,972.78
Lucian Arvandru 2,654.79
Miana, Champion of Irori 1,056.40
Sealman Alerteyes 12,913.86
So Seal has 12,913 to work with (not 11.3k + 12.6k)
If you need a belt/boots/cloak etc., I'm your rat. We should probably get it sorted before we get to the fortress though.
Sealman Alerteyes |
Yah, I was debating between doting & dotting. Would you believe she now looks like a human leopard? =v) I got them binge watching "Once Upon a Time" so I can get away.
I may have a thing or two I want you to craft.
Man, I wish Giant Hunter's guide wasn't 3 weeks away. Who knows what goodies are inside. This downtime would be great for rebuilds and crafting items. *shakes fist!* I think I know what base weapon I want to go with.
Just thinking out loud, GM. I know its not on the list, but how much would a Permanency casting of Animal Growth be? Unless there is a magic item already out there I'm not aware of.
I have plenty of stuff I need to buy before hand. I'll make some of the hard decisions tomorrow.
Rissi, are most of your attack spells going to be fire based? I can pick up Resistance Fire, Cold or Eletricity 20 from Infiltrator. I figure it would probably be better to know what you are slinging then what the enemies might, that way friendly fire won't hurt as much.
EndlessForms |
Permanency is allowed. And you can do some retraining when Giant Hunter's Guide comes out.
Kufieno |
I'm here as well. Was gone this weekend for a an early 40th Birthday excursion for my wife and myself.
I think the ring of Force shielding was allocated to Kufieno earlier, but now, I think someone else should take it, as Kufieno will be using claws on a somewhat regular basis, and won't be able to use the ring in conjunction with claws.
I'l have my purchases/items to be crafted, up shortly.
Miana, Champion of Irori |
Glad to hear you guys are doing well.
Going to get your own amulet of mighty fists Kufieno?
Kufieno |
Yeah, some friends of ours toook us ziplining. Our birthdays aren't until December, but this was the last weekend before it closed. I thought that was all we were going to do, but it turned out to be an all day thing, including a winery, pub crawl, ect... Sunday was a recovery day....
Miana, Champion of Irori |
Heh, nice. I liked ziplining the one time I did it, although the rapelling down after that was a bit rough!
Lucian Arvandru |
Early congratulations then! Glad you had fun.

Heh, nice. I liked ziplining the one time I did it, although the rapelling down after that was a bit rough!
Yeah, I've been ziplining in Indiana and Hawaii; both times were fun. And I went rappelling in New Zealand, which was incredible. Spent all day hiking up a mountain to get to this awesome cliff next to a waterfall and just jumped right off. I'm not much of an extreme sport person but I would do that again in a heartbeat.
Miana, Champion of Irori |
Hoping to go back to Costa Rica again for a 2nd honeymoon; sorta thinking 10th or 15th anniversary, but it depends if we decide to go back to Europe. Mucg traveling to do, still!
Also, if any of you guys ever head to Rapid City, SD, let me know :)
Kufieno |
Yeah, I used to do a lot of spelunking and a little bit of rappelling when I was younger. Not much time to do it now.
@Miana: AoMF does seem like a good purchase at some point.
So be Rissi's list, Kufi has Ring of Force Shielding, Sihedron Medallion, Cloak of Elvenkind, Shortsword +1.
That is a lot of duplication. Doen anyone need or want any of these?
I think Kufi would do well, with either a belt of physical might (Dex and Con +2), or an amulet and something else. Maybe a belt of CON, or something. (Maybe a Mask of Stony Demeanor, to feint and get FF?)
Hidetsugu Rissi |
Nope, if you don't want any of those, we sell them.
We can start with a belt and a mask and go from there. After my crafting that leaves 10.7k left.
How above a Vest of Escape? Those are nice; I could craft that for 2.6 k.
If you want to feint better I could also make you Circlet of Persuasion.
Kufieno |
Well, the vest takes up the same slot as the snakeskin tunic, and the the circlet would take the same slot as the mask. A headband of CHA would help, and eventually, I'll probably switch to a AoMF.
Also, I meant STR/CON belt, since the vest grants a +2 to Dex.
Let's go with the Belt and the Mask, sell the Cloak of Res. +1 and the Force Shield Ring, and I'll peruse some other magic items.
A robe of arcane heritage @ 16,000 (retail), would grant Kufi a second use of his dragon's breath per day.
Sealman Alerteyes |
OK, nearly done.
Selling +1 Bastard Sword, cold iron dagger & cestus.
Upgrading bow to +1, buying a +1 adamantine giant bane falchion (still debating on this as the base weapon), & Msw cold iron boulder helmet.
Is Rissi able to craft Handy Haversack? How much would that cost da Sealman?
Oh, and happy birthday Kufieno!
Hidetsugu Rissi |
1k for the chest. I'd ask you pay for the cost of learning the required spell as a toll, but I can't cast it right now anyways so I'll just add +5 DC to craft it. Even accelerated I still make it on a take 10 :)
Lucian Arvandru |
Lucian would be interested in the wand of vampiric touch we've just found (since he has 100% chance of activating arcane wands now), unless someone else wants it?
Hidetsugu Rissi |
@Lucian: Is obtaining a Mnemonic Vestment something that might be interesting at some point in your future?
@Kufieno: I crafted your +2 str/con belt and took it out of the funds. You're right about the robes of arcane heritage being awesome - they would also help the energy resistance/natural armor/claws.
You have enough for me to craft the robes of arcane heritage right now, and even with the strict crafting requirements I can do it - but I would need one more level to fast craft them. So, we're looking at 8 days at that point (for me) - it seems like I've done an awful lot even for the 2-3 weeks it took the party to rest and travel (especially since crafting while traveling is at a quarter speed). So, I'll do it the next moment we have downtime. Sound good?
Lucian Arvandru |
Absolutely Rissi, it was my intention.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Hidetsugu Rissi |
@Kufieno: I crafted 40.5k worth of items; the first week I did 28k during downtime (accelerated crafter + valet). The remaining 12.5k took pretty much the entire two weeks during traveling (assuming 2 hours/day net work, and if we took the boat)
@Seal: The falchion is a mechanically superior weapon. But, I'll go ahead and advocate for the dwarven longhammer or dwarven longaxe. They have each (in case you don't plan on taking lunge) and are properly dwarfy. I especially like the description of the warhammer:
These heavy-headed bludgeons are often carved or cast with monstrous faces or drilled with tiny holes to create a menacing whistling as they are swung through the air.
Although reach weapons combined with cleaving is a bit tricky - but could get good again with the cleave chain you are pursuing, especially since (although this gets a bit cheesy) nothing in cleave specifies you have to use the same weapon - cleave with reach weapon, then switch to helm to take additional cleave attacks). Might be GM fiat, though.
Sealman Alerteyes |
That's the debate I had Rissi. When I started Seal, I figured I would make my giant-slaying weapon out of the longaxe. But then I found out the Titan Mauler gets "Evade Reach" which allows Seal to get up close and personal without the AoOs. So my research for weapon expanded. That's why I wanted to wait and see what Giant Hunter's Guide has. But I'm sure we won't get this much downtime until the next module.
The plan is to use the dorn as the main weapon, that way I can get more utility out of it with its flexable reach. I would only use Isoult for giant slaying.
I honestly wanted to go with a dwarfy weapon, like an axe. But I want to get a Scabbard of Keen Edges, but an axe doesn't fit the "blade" requirement.
I wouldn't do the Cleaving with two different weapons. That doesn't sound right. I'm sure it doesn't say you have to use the same weapon for the iterative either, but its common sense that you would.
Hidetsugu Rissi |
Well, as you will. You've clearly thought about this already!
I just finished Temple of Elemental Evil (Circle of Eight Modpack, 3.5 rules) with an all dwarf party (well, a gnome for the sorcerer). It was super-fun, and I limited myself to dwarf weapons (hammers and axes). I had a blast, although I had to charge constantly to get in range :).
Too many marriage quests in the game though. "What? No you daft human, I don't want to marry you. I'm a dwarf!"
Sealman Alerteyes |
Another idea I had was craft Isoult around Large Dwarf Waraxe and use Jotungrip with it. This way that bloody feature can be used. Of course, if GSH has something else that replaces that, then I'm out a few dozen grand.
I like the idea of staying with the dwarf weapons. But man, that crit range is hard to pass up.
EndlessForms |
If you wanted to purchase/craft a weapon now and then change it if something better comes out with the Giant Slayer's Handbook, I'll let you sell the first at 100% as if it never existed and Rissi had crafted the GSH one in the first place.
EndlessForms |
So I'm going to be honest with you: in my opinion, Book 3 looks like the low-point of this campaign mostly because I am not impressed with the construction of the dungeons in this book. I already skipped over a handful of encounters at the Graul Homestead and if you don't mind I'm going to skip a few of the encounters here as well.
The construction of these dungeons seems to be:
In generally, I really dislike those types of dungeons. It gets really old really fast, especially over PbP where you can spend several months fighting the same monster over and over again.
So unless anyone has any major objections, I'm going to skip over some more of the encounters here as well. I might keep some of the class level ones because they add some variety but you've proven yourselves against vanilla ogres already and there's no reason to fight a dozen more.
Sealman Alerteyes |
Seal gives sad puppy dog eyes.
But Nebten understands the need to keep things fresh over PbP.
Hence the reason I'm resistant to running Dragon Mountain online. I think it would work great because there is a political aspect to a grand dungeon crawl, but a majority of it is kobolds.
Miana, Champion of Irori |
You're the GM, so I'll follow your lead. I do appreciate you being honest about that. I'm actually considering running this AP over PbP for some military friends of mine who have just moved away and some others who are about to. This is something to keep in mind. Albeit, I think with Book 3, the idea is to play up the horrific-ness of the ogres, but I think I remember that also caused a slight bit of controversy, too.
EndlessForms |
Yeah, I figured Seal would be sad about not getting to fight more ogres so that's why I didn't (and won't) cut all of them. But in general my GMing is philosophy (as Lithrac put it) is to have fewer encounters but make the encounters mean more. When you're slogging through twenty ogre encounters in a row (and it does become a slog at that point, imo), the encounters begin to lose meaning.
Incidentally, I will probably run Emerald Spire some day but the main reason I have hesitated is because the dungeon composition (at least in the lower levels) seems similarly bland to me. Level 1: fight goblins. Level 2: fight spiders. You get the idea. I'm not a fan of those types of dungeons. Lots of meaningless repetitive encounters get old quickly.
I was actually hesitant to run Shattered Star for the above reasons but have been pleasantly surprised by the variety and nice stories woven throughout the dungeons. I hadn't run into any repetition problems until Book 4 when one level had multiple skulk fights. (And when the PCs were level 11! Granted, the skulks had class levels but they were rogue/clerics, so. . . useless. Couldn't hit anything or do damage in any way.)
Lucian Arvandru |
Having GMed this part, I can say that I'm 100% on board with your plans, EF. It is indeed a drag to play as written, and lacks diversity in my opinion too. I think the best part about Rannick was having my players scheme for about two hours on how to approach, deal with the ogres so that they wouldn't have to fight all of them at the same time, etc. They were scared to death! But it also made this part memorable for them.
Sealman Alerteyes |
So I got the Giant Hunter's Guide today. Cool little book. I like the fluff more then crutch honestly. I would think it would be the only book Seal would carry around. After all the first page in the book pretty much says all giants are evil.
Nothing too impressive with the equipment at first glance. Traits, story goals and feats are creative but nothing to call home about. Defiantly a book to have for the Giantslayer series.
In other news, I'll be going to Vegas Friday through Monday. Rinse and repeat Seal lopping off ogre heads and busting down doors without batting an eye.
Hidetsugu Rissi |
Kufieno = headband of alluring charisma?
Sealman = amulet of natural armor +1 and ring of protection +1?
Does Lucia or Kufieno want the wand of Acid Arrow?
The Boots of the Mire seem very situational; I'm going to sell them unless we specifically need them, or the rangers want them back.
3 potions of cure serious wounds up for grabs
Lucian Arvandru |
If Rissi isn't interested in the wand then why not!

Just a reminder to everyone that I am leaving for my honeymoon in New Zealand tomorrow and will be gone until January 13. If I get the chance to update at all, the updates will likely be few and far between. So sit tight for a few weeks, enjoy the holidays, and I will see everyone when I get back! Thanks!
