The Man Behind the Curtain

You can hear the muffled sound of Hiram's yelling and can discern what he's saying with something like a DC 7 perception check. I think everyone can hear him with no rolls required.
Quiven: He has nothing in particular to avoid precision damage. Other than an AC of greater than 22.
He continues to taunt as he avoids Quiven's blow. "He is far more safe than you... He should consider yourself fortunate to merely be trapped and not torn."
He cringes for a moment as Quiven pulls out a sap with similar heft and size as the mallet and attempts to bang the gong again. He smirks as even with Shins' guidance the mallet again makes a thud and low rumble.
His heart to heart with Roary continues, and he manages to avoid one of Roary's strikes, which he seems to be content with.
Round 3:
Hiram (Bamf'd... with the mallet, delaying?)
Quiven (-18)
Jin-Goro
Wei Ji
Roary
Little Shins (Blurry)
Judge Heng (-70, Demoralized)
Party Buffs:
Haste to all but Hiram and Roary, ends round 12

You know, if we didn't need you to actually identify which route we should take I would happily plane shift you somewhere deeply inconvenient....but, as we do I will just hog tie you for Roary
With that he casts another spell, trying to grapple the Oni.

Wei shifts tack, since Hiram vanished with the mallet and his attempt at grappling the Oni was singularly unsuccessful. Assuming, at least, since it wasn't even mentioned in GM updates that I could see
Will Save(DC 12): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
"Be right there, Hiram, just give me a second to..." The sound of the erupting thunder makes him cringe a bit. "Stop doing that, and back away, I'm going to cut you out!"
Moving to wall 'corner' between Roary and Shins. Provoking two AoO (Current AC 32 with Haste) Drawing Adamantine Sawtooth Sabre.

I thought I had responded to the grapple attempt from earlier but it looks as though that post never made it through. It indeed did not succeed. Nor was it remotely close.
AoO from earlier Grapple check: 1d20 + 21 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 21 - 2 = 22 Miss
~~And back to the present~~
Wei Ji and Hiram both begin to carve away at the iron wall and put quite a dent in it, but it holds firm, at least for a little while.
No AoOs since he's grappled at that point.
Heng flexes and shoves his arms outward, pressing against the restraining force...
CMB to break Grapple: 1d20 + 20 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 20 - 2 = 35 Succeeds
...and escapes the grapple asserted by Jin-Goro.
Heng's weapon was a spiked greatclub. There is very little in it's construction that would qualify as 'light mallet.' Quiven's sap seems pretty good though.

Somewhat disturbing yet comforting to know I'm not the only one what has run into that phenomenon...
Wei continues to work at the wall to turn it into a door... of sorts. "Stay back a bit unless you can help, Hiram, don't want you getting any metal slivers as I work on this!"

"Quiven, I'm happy to help you if you wish, but if you want I could try if you were willing to lend your sap."
If Quiven wants to make another attempt at the gong, will attempt to cast heroism on him. Else Shins will take the sap and cast heroism on himself.

Well, I often work from multiple computers, so I've been known to draft a post on one, then go to another and forget to include the information that I had begun to draft. Definitely a PEBKAC error in my case.
A swift trio of cuts and the wall begins to buckle. Creases begin to appear in the center section from both sides and an inward bulge is showing.
Are those 2 handed strikes with the saber or 1? There's no reason you can't also shield bash it other than the hardness difficulty.

Unfortunately, they are 1-handed. While Wei does have Improved Shield Bash, as a professional engineer he's thinking the door isn't *quite* to the weakened state where bashes would be helpful.
Quiven Glist

Quiven will hand Little Shins his sap, then pull out his other one so he can try again! Don't waste the Heroism on me though, use it one yourself.
Again!: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3 Geez.
Jin-Goro Gallonica

I put away the club the round I stole it. I drew my morning star on my turn last round. If the handle can be used as a substitute for the mallet Jin will try and ring the gong as a full round action and cease concentrating on telekinesis. If not he will try and grapple the Oni again and take a sap from Quiven to use next round if he has a spare he can share.
Quiven, stop messing about with the stupid gong and finish off this idiot!
Immediate action borrow fortune to reroll
Perform reroll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Modifier is +6(charisma) +3(circlet of persuasion) +2(heroism)
Edit: These should each be 3 higher as my charisma mod is +9 not +6 as I have my headband back. I would still use borrow fortune on that roll so a 24 perform.

Jin-Goro: The morningstar would not be usable for that. As it turns out, the actual mallet literally is a sap.
Jin-Goro attempts to drag Heng back into submission, but this time his grip is too easily broken. Roary furiously continues beating on him, although his effectiveness is limited by his flailing aim. Quiven continues to make sounds that are more similar to plywood than music, and Hiram pounds away at the door from the inside.

I can only help take him down if you can help me! Flank! Quiven will attack once Roary (or anyone) gives Quiven a flanking opportunity, otherwise he won't be very helpful.
Assuming that he does get the flanking Quiven will attack with his second sap as his mainhand and one of his blades in the offhand.
Sap: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 for Non-Lethal Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 5d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (4, 1, 4, 6, 5) = 24

The Man Behind the Curtain

Shins holds Quiven's sap and motions for him to quit it for a moment. He rubs the gong in a circular pattern with the end of the sap and it begins to hum. Just as the hum begins, something... supernatural tells him that now is the time to strike it! And with a soft tap, a loud ringing blair fills the room. Judge Heng halts immediately, then turns and looks at little Shins. As the ringing dies out, the illusions covering the doorways fade and Heng bows. He smiles and points towards one alcove that does not contain a dead end. "Congratulations. Let us free your compatriot, then you shall continue to on to the final arena. Walk the true path to the Ring of the Four and there you shall find your final challenges."
Quiven Glist
|
Oh, THAT'S how you do it! Quiven bonks himself in the head with his sap (hopefully too softly again) gives a sigh and a smile. I'll have to take lessons!
Hiram Kell
|
Hiram staggers out of the makeshift tomb, glaring at the Judge. "Walls. Walls are the natural enemy of the Taldan people. In my capacity as Hiram Kells, Baron of Taldor, I do hereby declare that I shall make my life's work the tearing down of walls and wall-like structures. So swear I!"
Jin-Goro Gallonica

About bloody time!, clearly irritated Jin floats down the corridor that Heng points out.
Roary Flamebearer
|
Roary ends his rage and catches his breath..
"Well fought.. I probably wasn't really gonna kill yea.."
"How bout someone patch these claw marks up."
Down 27 if someone wants to use my wand.
Jin-Goro Gallonica
|
Jin pauses momentarily to see to Roary, save your wand charges, I have more magic left in me than I know what to do with today
Jin casts Cure Critical Wounds on Roary healing him for 4d8 + 11 ⇒ (8, 4, 3, 3) + 11 = 29 damage. Seeing Quiven has also taken some damage he casts another spell on him as they travel, Cure Serious Wounds healing 3d8 + 11 ⇒ (6, 1, 1) + 11 = 19 damage.
Now, just remember, after we are all done with this to go thank the Lady Urgathoa for keeping you from her door, for today at least... says Jin with a wink.
Little Shins
|
"Thank you for your time Judge."
Shins returns the sap to Quiven as he follows through the open passage.
"Sorry for taking so long. I know I'll be thanking many for our safety if with all make it through this as we are now."
Wei Ji
|
"Good job, everyone. That includes you, Judge Heng. Was beginning to wonder if we'd have to knock you out and drag you away from the gong to get it rung properly..."
"So how will we know the true path, then?" Wei asks of Heng before getting out of earshot.
The tengu is contemplative after finishing freeing Hiram, and will be keeping an eye out for potential issues as the party advances.
Jin-Goro Gallonica
|
As we head out Jin will tap himself with wands of heightened awareness and investigative mind. He will also offer to cast Freedom of Movement on anyone who wants it, offer open to the first 3 to ask.
The Man Behind the Curtain
|
Heng simply points at the alcove that extends out ahead. "Good luck. The others who have passed their trials with their respective judges will be meeting you."
Wei Ji can hear the sound of battle coming from way down the hallway. The passage seems to take a sleight downward slope before dropping off rather quickly roughly 100 ft away.
Go ahead and give me a marching order in the hallway. Hallway is not drawn to scale.
Jin-Goro Gallonica
|
With the sounds of battle in the distance Jin will cheerfully fly down the corridor at full speed, anxious to join the fray and aid any fellow pathfinders.
Happy to take point or generally be up at the front, if there is space Jin will fly up at the ceiling above others at the front. Assuming Haste is still up he is moving at 60'
Wei Ji
|
Wei will stretch a bit and force his wings outward Activating Tengu Wings as per up-thread in arena fight.
"Corridor drops off ahead, battle on-going, anyone want a lift in case the floor drops out completely?"
If there's enough room, Wei's willing to be a 'taxi' service for some light folks...
Roary Flamebearer
|
"Nah.. Is why I bought another fly potion.. I'll take point!"
Roary quaffs his potion of fly and heads off down the path when everyone else is ready..
Quiven Glist
|
Oh yeah! I got one of those! Quiven will follow Roary's lead and drink his own potion, then follow right behind him.
Little Shins
|
"I should be fine Wei Ji. I'll get there soon, but I don't want to slow you and I can still support you from a distance."
Little Shins
|
Reflex: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 15 + 2 = 32
"Alright! I can support from the front as well!" yells the bard as he attempts to maintain balance down the ramp.
Jin-Goro Gallonica
|
Jin will fly down the corridor towards the sounds of battle.
The Man Behind the Curtain
|
As you descend through the hallway, it drops off sharpy at a 45 degree angle passing over a small set of runes on the floor. Flying over makes it a trivial task to avoid brushing up against them and you descend down to a crescent shapped hall. Several other tunnels link up to the entryway, and the sounds of other contestants skidding down their own respective slopes can be heard behind, and the sounds of battle grow louder. Stepping forward places you into the main chamber.
Rows of smooth granite pillars line the perimeter of a huge rotunda. Between the pillars, intricate patterns of inlaid stone form the cryptic arcane symbols. Toward the rear of the chamber rises a stepped dais, its broad base inlaid with similar fonts. Atop the dais meditates a slight-built man garbed in flowing yellow robes. Barefooted, he sits with his legs folded as his calm, unblinking gaze stares serenely into space. Below him, surrounding the dais and filling the remainder of the room are gouts of fire, rolling boulders, howling blasts of wind, and rolling torrents of water that churn like a savage and chaotic elemental sea.
As you step forward onto the stone floor, three enormous waves form in the stone and lap across the ground like water. The stonework below solidifies again and the wave splashes outward, forming 3 quivering bodies of water, each of which begin to move towards the party as though they had minds of their own. To the north, whirlwinds begin to form and the floor juts out jagged arcs of rock and metal, while at your feet several inches of water cover the ground.

Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Jin-Goro's spell causes the floor to swallow up the first of the elementals and it quickly vanishes, being replaced with a small tide of mundane water. As he moves forward, vents of steam shoot up from the ground spraying magma, rock, and gusts of hot air. Streams of smaller elementals come running out, engaging in combat with another group of pathfinders entering from the northern passage, and several more hold the line up on the dais. The master sits up above and as you look towards him you see he is surrounded by wisps of smoke that appear to take the shape of humanoid men and women each dressed in meditation robes.
Jin-Goro, if you wish to continue moving towards the master that would push you into the next encounter running concurrently with this one. I'd recommend finishing this one first.

The creatures you're facing are Greater Water Elementals. Facing against foes in contact with water (Currently only Shins) they are able to demonstrate full mastery of their element.
