Hi guys, GM Cody here, I’ve always wanted to do Kingmaker and I am needing a consistent online game and the best place to find that is with an AP.

A bit about me: I’ve been playing in pbp for over a year now and really enjoy the format. Sometimes I am posting really fast, sometimes I’ll only post once a day. Depends on the mood of the game at the time. I am in this for the long haul, I hope you guys are too. I’ll keep recruitment open till January 11th I’m looking for 4 to 5 players

My expectations from you as a player:

• Consistent posting, I’d prefer at least once a day posting

• An easy to read character sheet

• Decent writing ability, get descriptive. I don’t want just dice rolls.

• Don’t cheese it too hard, I don’t own every book so if your character involves
something from obscure 3.5 pathfinder materials, be prepared, I might not allow it.

• Have fun, if you aren’t say something, it's always an adjustment joining a new group, if its not working out, we can figure something out :).

Character building rules:

• Level 1, 15 point buy, try to stick to core races, please.

• Three traits, 1 has to come from the player guide.

• 150 gold and 2 background skills.

• Fighters get 4+Int skills per level and receive a +2 bonus to Reflex Saves at 1st level and +1 per every 5 levels after that, so +3 at 6th, +4 at 11th, +5 at 16. (I like fighters, I think they just love)

• Wands and staves work differently, Staves take the place of Wands and “wands” are more like weapons for spellcasters. Staff of Cure Light Wounds: Two handed weapon, that has 50 charges and casts a CLW spell at caster level 1. Can’t be recharged. Additionally +1 Wand for example confers a +1 to hit with ranged spells and a +1 to the save dc’s. A +1 Flaming Wand would also confer a +1d6 to a damaging spell cast. So a magic missile cast by a wizard/sorcerer with it would do 1d4+1 force damage + 1d6 fire damage. Some abilities like “Impact” don’t transfer or “Brilliant Energy”.

• I am not familiar with the Occult Classes all that much nor do I think the Vigilante would work that well in this environment so I’ll have to say no to those classes at first. If you submit a compelling enough character using one of the Occult classes I’ll consider it at least.

• Give me a paragraph or two, 4-6 sentences minimum, of character background, who your character is and why they are here.

This is my first time recruiting for an online game like this so I’ll be pretty active watching this thread and answering questions if I can.

gold? and background skills?

I've always wanted to do Kingmaker, and most of the ones I have seen are rerecruitments for groups who've already started. Preliminary idea is for a paladin with plans to become an Aldori Swordlord.

I'd also like a verdict on Background Skills. For a skill-starved character like I'll probably end up with, it'd be incredibly helpful.

I edited, starting gold is 150 gold and you get 2 background skills.

Oooooh boy, alright. This is too good an opportunity to pass up with a character concept I have.

I'll submit a character in a few days :P

doooooot

I am thinking of making a fighter here. That or a ranger. I am thinking of going with Two weapon fighting.

first thoughts of background:

Alexander was the son of a noble, unfortunately he was not the lords son, The lord of the land was an intolerable person, greedy, horrid, tyrannical. His mother had been made his when she was still young, nearly half the age of the old lord, for his money bought much. While she lived a bountiful life, always having fine things it was never what she truly wanted. It was on a night that an elven ranger visited the castle, and met his mother that Alexander was conceived. Over the first few years of his life his mother was able to hide his mixed heritage from the lord, and Dart lived a good 8 years in the ignorance of his house. Alas all things could not last, the lord soon discovered his true parentage, and on the eve of his 9th birthday, while he was out among the river sitting on the small waterfall where he would often walk because he thought it was immensely beautiful, he was shot. The shot for some reason flew wide, missing the boys vitals but hitting his arm, in the haze of the pain the boy fell into the river. The assassin, having poisoned the tip of the arrow left the boy for dead, and went back to finish his task with the boys mother.

Somehow the young child managed to keep conscious long enough to swim to shore, there exhausted and poisoned, he fell into a dark sleep. He awoke to the smell of cooking venison and when he opened his eyes he saw he was in a small hut, the pain in his arm and numbness in his body was gone. Just as he leaned up a man in a green cloak came into the hut.

"oh, your up, well I must say, you have your fathers fortitude indeed! Most adults would have long been dead to that poison before I got to you." the man says, in a disturbingly light-hearted voice for such a gruff looking exterior.

"Oh, not that man you grew up calling father, He is a slothful and evil man. Your father is a ranger my boy, much like myself, well, not quite as good a cook." he says with a wink.

"come on, come on, lets get some food in ya, ya been sleeping for three days."

over the next few days, after the child gathers his strength he is told stories of his father, his true Heritage, and is shown the suffering people under his ex-fathers rule.

It went against his conscious to see people toil in such squalor for such little gain. It went against all the stories his mother had told him at bedtime.

his mother! He asked the man to see his mother.

"My boy.. your mother, could not be saved.." he says with eyes down shodden.

come, we have much to do, and you much to learn.

Do you think this would work? I've never played kingmaker, and I want to make sure there may be "bad" lords nearby.

Or, if it is more of a purely "build a nation" game without any other big goals down the line I can come up with a little something else.

I could never say no to an adventure that favors fighters. My submission:

Background
Drazh is a traveling dwarven merchant. Born and raised in Brunderton to a family of smiths, he was 'destined' to follow in his parents' footsteps. But far more than his skill with a hammer, he had the gift of speaking. Where most dwarves would gruffly demand a price and hope a withering scowl would drive the point home, Drazh would haggle. When a customer asked about the quality of his wares, he wouldn't go into a tirade about his clan's skill...he'd happily answer any and all questions. Because at the end of the day, Drazh was a simple dwarf who enjoyed the company of others.

When he came of age, Drazh (politely) turned down his parents' 'request' that he join them at the forge. Instead he took to the road, leaving Brunderton behind, he tried (and failed) to make his fortune as a merchant. Now finding himself far from home with no goods to sell, he is looking to take whatever work he can find to get back on his feet.

Personality
Friendly, inquisitive, hard working. A horrible liar and not exactly 'intimidating' despite his strength and quite large hammer. While on the search for gold, he will settle for seeing the world.

Combat
* To Hit: +4
* Damage: 2d6 + 7

As a dwarf, you can take the feat "steel soul" to gain +4 saves on spells and SLA effects as a dwarf. (well, it gives doubles the dwarf racial trait bonus to saves)

thelizardwizard wrote:

Aye, I could. Then add glory of old for +5.

But I'm partial to Unstoppable. +1 Fort and toughness as a free feat instead. Then spend the trait on fighter of the society (+1 AC) and the feat at Lvl 3 on iron will (+2 Will).

Vastly lower saves against magic, but a lot tougher in melee. Then relying on the +2 Ref, Wis 14 and Iron Will for saving vs spells.

Alexander Cedric:

Alexander Cedric Demonte was the son of a noble, yet, he was not the lords son, The lord of the land was an intolerable person, greedy, horrid, tyrannical. his mother! He asked the man to see his mother.

"My boy.. your mother, could not be saved.." he says with eyes down-sodden.

come, we have much to do, and you much to learn.

The boy never met his father, who had disappeared years before the boy had been discovered. He would go to eventually work on the edges of civilization, protecting the folk, biding time until he could garner the strength to take revenge against the lord. He has heard a call for men and women to tame the wild lands. He see's this an opportunity to not only make us of his skill while garnering strength and power, but to also protect the common people. He has made his way to the Baron in order to off his abilities, skill, and blades to the cause.

heres a more completed backstory, will have personality up in a bit.

Also, I've always seen fighters fairly tanky enough physically, I suppose I am more worried about saves than some though.

Also, I am still not sure if I am going Ranger or Fighter.

Personally I think a Vigilant would make an excellent spymaster or enforcer.

Dot

I would be interested in trying Kingmaker on this alias.

I've played through the 1st book and part of the second before I moved away from the group. Would this be a problem?

Edit: If allowed to submit a character, I will submit a human bard focused on buffing/knowledge/face skills.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

I'm very interested in giving Kingmaker a try, it looks like great fun.

Here is a character concept I've been kicking around for a while. He was originally intended to be a Mesmerist, but since you don't want Occult classes, I can just as easily make him a Bard.

Vittorio:
Vittorio Vandomar is a man whose ambition has always outstripped his competence. To hear him tell it, he is a world class showman, a businessman without compare, an adventurer who has plundered ancient tombs for priceless treasures and advised the crown heads of nations on all matters mystical.

In actuality he is just an aging, overweight carnival performer who is down on his (eternally bad) luck and looking for a chance at greatness, or at least a chance to avoid his creditors. After an incident where some griffon eggs he sold turned out to be painted rocks, Vittorio has found his way to the River Kingdoms to start fresh.

Underneath the layers of fat, failure, and fraudulence, there is a keen mind and a genuine desire to prove himself and do some good in the world, but alas these always seem to find themselves overridden when an easier solution presents itself. He's about to receive a rude awakening; nothing comes easy in the River Kingdoms, and if he doesn't discover a drop or two of genuine heroism within him (or at least a few more gallons of cunning), then he won't last very long.

Vittorio is a middle aged Varisian man with a dark beard and a deep, booming voice. He knows some small amount of genuine magic, but augments it with simple sleight of hand tricks and showmanship to seem more powerful than he is. He's a large man, but in somewhat better shape than he looks, and is not above using his age and apparent plumpness to make enemies underestimate his ability to throw a punch (or flee if it comes to it). Vittorio likes to keep the true nature of his abilities secret, and is happy to be mistaken for a wizard or sorcerer if it will make him seem more impressive.

@Yokaiboy I agree, it could be but that time is quite a ways away, I have a hard time wrapping my head around a Vigilante tromping through the forest finding resources, not really helping anyone.

@Ulrich Rovanky okay, sounds good. I can consider that a submission :)

@Gummy bear sure, go ahead and submit a character. I am not too bothered by people who have played through portions of an AP. People are generally pretty good about separating knowledge.

@Overlord Laharl Sounds like a fun character. Yeah I'm just not familiar with the Occult classes, I own the book but have yet to really sit down and understand. If you want to submit him as a Mesmerist I won't mind, I've played around trying to build a Mesmerist myself so I'm somewhat familiar with that class.

@Grumbaki good submission

@ThelizardWizard Seems like a good backstory so far!

Yay! :D Just a couple of questions about your staff/wand houserule:

How much do wands cost?

Do staves cost as much as wands do in standard Pathfinder?

What happens to standard staves?

Unrelated to the above topic, but how do you define "interaction" as far as illusions go?

Backstory:

Born as the 6th child to the noble house of Lebeda, Cyril has been free to enjoy all the perks of nobility and none of the responsibility. While some of his older siblings were forced to pursue matters of mercantilism and trade, he was left to do as he pleased. This typically consisted of long hours with the best tutors money could buy with regards to dancing, singing, and various other topics that have nothing to do with being a merchant.

Cyril Lebeda is a confident young man who thinks he knows the world. His historic lack of responsibility have developed a false sense of invincibility and minimal perspective on how the world really works beyond the walls of his family's estate. While not necessarily entitled, he can be fairly naive and aloof to some of the realities that nonnobles deal with on a daily basis.

When his family received the missive calling brave souls to pioneer the Stolen Lands in the name of Brevoy, Cyril leapt at the opportunity to escape his family and show the world just how incredible he really is.

Staves in my world are 1 for 1 with wands, regular staves are just gone for the most part. I think they are mostly overpriced and are usually useless.

Interaction, I mostly say that's physical contact of some sort. So shooting an arrow at an illusion, attacking, or even being attacked. If the illusion is based on smell than, the enemy smelling the illusion would trigger an interaction.

For the most part we'll take it case by case and I'm pretty easy going.

Character sheet: Vittorio Vandomar

Still need to figure out equipment, but everything else should be there. Let me know what you think.

Here is my submission.

An aspiring swordlord from Restov.

I'll have a backstory later after work.

Ive been debating weather i should or should not apply here... but it got to me. So yes. I think i will =^^=

Human. Ranged fighter(crossbowman). For now

Have a few ideas for a halfling oracle, with the racial community guardian archtype. Or maybe a gnome elemental oracle. Let me see what I can come up with.

Seth here. Most of character crunch is done. Just need to figure out her skills and equipment =^^= and of course her not too shady background

I have an idea for a Halfling ranged cavalier that I have been toying with for a few days now. I will have the submission pulled together by tonight.

Good to see Submissions coming in :)

Grand Lodge

How do you feel about unchained classes? Thinking about submitting an unchained rogue or summoner if allowed.

Should dot this to say I am working on a cleric of Erastil.

Since I wasn't sure what I wanted to submit, I gathered the current submissions/proposed ideas:

Archpaladin Zousha - paladin progressing to Aldori Swordlord
thelizardwizard - Alexander Cedric - fighter or ranger, two-weapon fighting?
Grumbaki - Drazh Anviltamer - dwarven two-handed fighter
Twistlok - Ulrich Rovanky - half-orc slayer
overlord_laharl- Vittorio Vandomar - mesmerist
Gummy Bear - Cyrus Lebeda - human bard
Zachary Wydawski - Alexei Svost - human kensai magus
Seth86 - Zartana - human crossbowman fighter
zolexa13 - halfing or gnome oracle
colin spear - halfling ranged cavalier
andygal - cleric of Erastil

After getting that together, I'm thinking of a dwarven wizard. Don't have much yet, will try to get something submitted tomorrow. Full disclosure: I was a player for the first book of this AP IRL - we TPK'd in the final battle.

Here is the full piece for my submission.

SQ: out rider, weapon familiarity, keen senses, Mount (wolf), tactician, order (order of the paw)

story:

Trinton hails from a small village of halflings in the north reaches of Brevoy. For several generations the village of brush has been defended from any surrounding dangers by a group of halflings mounted on hounds specially trained to defend the village alongside those halflings they carried with them. Trinton had always admired the other halflings who defended his home and dreamed of one day joining them in the defense of the village. At long last his growing day came and he began to train with the Halfling riders. However try as he might he couldn’t bond with any of the dogs in the village pack. He’d play with them and give them treats but none of them would allow him to ride them. One day he had gone out into the woods, depressed and disappointed that his dream of joining the order of the paw had been dashed. As he was brooding a young wolf came upon him. For no apparent reason it lay down next to him and has never left his side since. Delighted and confused about this occurrence he rode his new friend dubbed “Terror tooth” back to the village and began training under the order’s teachers. Unfortunately bandits have moved into the region and have been raiding the village. Due to the size of the horses the brigands use there has been little that the Halfling outriders could do against the riders. Trinton has been sent out to the wilds to seek help for brush village and if none is to be had then to find a new location that the villagers to move to and leave the bandits far behind.

I'm toying with the idea of a more financially oriented character. Wants to join the expedition to make his fortune, but could easily see himself as an important player in terms of trade for a fledgling nation.

Now I just need to work out the small details of race, class etc! Thinking maybe of a forgepriest.

Actually, I may go about submitting a druid.

Actually, looking at the submissions so far, I may submit an arcane caster.

Yes, I'll be submitting a noble wizard (or bastard) seeking to gain his own kingdom and renown.

how would you feel about a necromancer of sorts? not an evil one, just one that saw power in the necromantic arts and took advantage of it.

@Ulrich Rovanky okay, sounds good. I can consider that a submission :)

Yes

Thanks for putting this together, yeah I was also noticing a significant lack of arcane submissions. Glad I'm not the only who noticed. I didn't want to say something though and then trigger like 50 wizards submissions.

Bard, mesmerism and Magus are arcane. Also have an oracle and cleric in the mix.

Mesmerist is psychic not arcane. And neither the Bard nor the Magus are full casters.

I would very much like to play. If you allow it, I will be adapting the following character for this game:

Hama, the Wandering Witch

She will be much younger, and not yet corrupted by evil or her genetic disease. However, with your permission I would like to (more or less) build towards what's shown above.

I understand some things will have to change to better fit the campaign. I doubt there are many mammoths in the Stolen Lands, for example, but I think that rebuilding the character to fit a different story could be a lot of fun.

Let me know what you think, GM Cody.

Character Notes:

Hama was originally created for another campaign that never really got off the ground. As shown, she is a 25-point buy character who has much more gear than her level would indicate due to item crafting feats and the downtime system (which can enable crafting discounts beyond those of traditional crafting).

As I will be adapting this character to your campaign (pending your approval) I won't expect her new incarnation to have much of the same. That being said, I feel that having the opportunity to eventually craft or obtain Osirian Spirit Jars (or mechanical equivalents) and her "locket of guarded souls" (with accompanying enchantments; see character sheet above) and to have an imp familiar whispering corruption in her ear, are pretty integral to the late game concept I have of the character.

If you don't feel that will be possible, that's fine too; it will just feel like a different character for me is all.

GM Cody, here is the 1st-level version of the witch, Hama, that I've adapted for your campaign.

Okay, I know that you said Core Races but I have a character in mind that I have wanted to try ever since the Advanced Race Guide came out. I would love to try playing a Goblin Rogue, if not then I shall make it a Halfling Rogue instead.

Working on a female gnome druid. I will post information in the status section for Saniana (working name).

The Exchange

Here is my submission, an Unchained Rogue named Thomas Connor. His character sheet in in my profile. Here is his background.

Background:
Thomas spent his early years in a minor lord’s manor in southern Brevoy. Not as a noble itself, but rather as the son of two servants. He grew up listening to stories of his grandfather, a slave who escaped Cheliax and become a very successful thief in the River Kingdoms. Inspired by this he got in trouble when he was 12 by trying to steal from the Lord. Rather than staying to face judgment, he fled to the south, hoping to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather.

He fell in with brigands working west of Restov, collecting a “Forest Tax” on passing caravans. He quickly discovered that whether it was a Lord or a Brigand Chief, most important people he met assumed being a halfling meant you were called to serve them. He found himself mending armor and cooking food. But by the time he had grown up he proved he was more skilled at scouting than anyone else in the camp. Things went well for a while until leadership changed hands. The new chief was greedier, and dumber. He decided to start slaughtering travelers on the road and taking all their belongings. Thomas may be a thief, but he was not comfortable killing for no reason. One day while scouting he narrowly evaded a group of adventurers hired to wreak vengeance on the bandits.

He fled to Restov. While there he discovered chartered adventurers were being called to establish a new kingdom in the stolen lands. It seemed like the perfect place to lay low. And besides, if he did manage to join a group of adventurers he might just be able to help create a nation where Halflings could truly rise above mere serving.

Some really great submissions coming in! Loving it guys. I regret making the deadline so far out, figured it'd be much slower going because of the holidays!!

It might be the fact that because of the holidays, there may be less recruitments open, so people have more time to commit to those that are going on.

Also, you never really answered how you felt about a necromancer wizard, he wouldn't pull to many undead shenanigans, but he would make use of some of the undead spells. (One of the big ones is Flesh puppet. I love the idea of it alot)

His view on Necromancy would be something like this-

Necromancy is not merely an art of raising undead abominations, or corrupting oneself with undeath. Necromancy holds sway over the powers of life and death. It takes the very energy of life and brings it under your control. Just as evocationists bend the elements to there will, or conjurers and transmuters bend the physical world to their desires, A necromancer bends and controls the very energy of life.

I'm thinking him being a bastard or son of a noble family, who was always outshone by his elder brother whom had gained all his glory from skill of arms. One day, Vinnick Happened upon a book of dark arts, saw the power he could come to wield and so started his studies. He would be LN. Have a point to prove, and more than a few goals to drive him.

Nothing against necromancy. But pointing out that Pharasma is one of the major deities in Brevoy. And Pharasmites believe that necromancy takes away part of a soul when a corpse is raised. Having corpses walk into town would be a good way to get us run out, so you'd have to be careful with what you raise and where you raise them. Only raising the bodies of 'enemy' races like orcs, gnolls, etc, might be wise.

O, yea he would know. I'm flavoring his bastard trait as, he was allowed to live "in" a nobles home, but as a mere servant/indentured slave servant. He was always jealous of his half-brother, that of course, excelled in combat and got awarded everything. While he originally turned to necromancy because 1. He managed to get lucky and find a book on it, and 2. It promised him power enough to potentially make something for himself.

As said, he won't be "raising" dead that much for awhile, (likely not even until after we get kingdom set up) and when he does he likely won't be raising hordes until we need them for /outside/ the, uh, "reclaimed" land. Any inside the land will be of the nature of Flesh puppet.

I may go down arcane archer for sheer funsies, but not until after 10 levels of full wizard at least.

Vinnick is an ahem, noble first, necromancer second.

Also, I will be writing my own made up words for draconic language spell casting. (each spell will involve a few draconic words, That I'll likely just mash together because they sound cool. but keep the same "arcane phrase" for each specific Spell.

Also waiting to hear if I can finally use a Goblin. The roleplay potential is going to be really huge; hard, but the rewards if I pull it off would be outstanding.

Background:

Vinnick spent his entire life living in the presence of nobility, nobility that he should have been a part of. Nobility that he had been forced to serve his entire life. The ring that had been given to him was proof enough of his lineage. At the age of 18, he stumbled across a black grimoire(placed there by an unknown someone who knew he would find it) while he was cleaning the library. Within its pages he begin his first foray into magic through the use of necromancy. The power of life and death energy. He had heard tales of the corrupting powers of dark arts, but the promise of finally attaining his dreams proved stronger than any superstitious fear of the magic. He practiced in secret, the more he read, the more he understood, and soon he could create a bolt of electricity with a mere mutter of a draconic word. move objects with projected force with but an utterance of a draconic phrase. He happened to learn of the Barons call for adventurers to reclaim the stolen lands. With the prestige and reward of becoming a duke, ruling his own kingdom under the baron if successful. It was a promise he could not resist. He snuck away one day, leaving behind his "duties" to pursue his one true chance at finally gaining the prestige of nobility he had long been denied.

Appearance and Personality:

Appearance

Personality: Ruthless, calculating, and driven. He is slow to trust, but once he trusts someone he trusts them completely until they give him reason to doubt him. Though he often will attempt to keep tabs on even those he trusts, as he can never be too careful. He relies more on planning and tactics than sheer force to attain his goals.

ok, here is a good rough draft/finished submission. I'll likely add more details to the backstory, likely taking some things from the 10-min background for it. let me know what you think.
