Yea, I typically hesitate anymore on AP PbP games, they are so long that most GMs/Players end up letting them die off. Everyone is always super excited when they start, then they get super excited about something else instead.
I applied to Will's RoW game simply because his pace is ambitious, even if I doubt it will go that quickly. :) Had it been any other AP advertised I wouldn't have bothered. I've even stopped looking at recruitment threads.

Was anyone else refreshing frequently, hoping for a climactic end to the fight? Very tense!
It was pretty much overkill at that point, she was down to 3hp and would have tried to run after this round. The actions pretty much pounded her into the dirt.
1. Dendarial hits, sending her into negatives, followed by Will's solid hit. She's dropping at this point.
2. Karse would have missed by 1, but since she was on her way down I took away her DEX bonus, which allowed him to get a hit in. All those low rolls just sucked too much. At this point she's at like -17 and dead.
3. Acio ices the cake with his attack, which is moot.
4. The party triumphs :)

That was an awesome combat! I have to agree with Will that it was very tense and exciting! Great descriptions, Cap'n.

In case you didn't notice, I won't pull punches when it comes to fights. While I would hate to see someone die I'd hate it more if every fight was without risk and a cakewalk. You all had a huge advantage at the trading post, but it won't always be so simple. Expect a challenge. Because I will bring it. :)

I, for one, am all for it. I don't mind losing a character fairly, even if I've grown fond of them. If there is no risk of death or failure, then why play the game?
In our Wednesday night Encounters game, my halfling has gotten right to death's door several times. Up until last night, his battle cry was, "Medic!" In the last two weeks, he had been one roll away from death on three separate occasions.

A healer's kit is not an unwise investment FYI. I usually always have one on any character I have. Even if it is to pass it off to someone with a better chance of success. If you are out of combat you can take 10 or 20 on this skill since there is no true negative result of failure. You cannot take 20 for treating poison or disease, nor can you take 10 to stabilize.
Brom Wolven
I second those statements. It makes it way more fun if everyone's playing believably, including the baddies!
Honestly what's the worst that can happen to a character? Death? Just makes for an even more involved and dynamic story we're all telling together. Great stuff.
I've been avoiding the recruitment boards for months... until I get a hankering or one of my other games starts slowing down. But then, yeah, gotta wait for the really good ones. Like Mez's and yours.
Brom Wolven
Taking 20 to stabilize seems dangerous as it implies constantly failing nearly 20 times, during which time your patient could die.
Good idea on the healers kit too. Seems a wise investment.
Brom Wolven
Right, you just mentioned taking 10 wasn't available to stabilize, wasn't sure if you were allowing taking 20 by omission. I understand now.

Consumables are for using afer all. I'll be picking up a healing kit for sure when we get more money to spend. I'm also tempted to inquire about a wand of CLW out of party funds when we get back to Oleg. A cleric and bard for 10 people spreads the support magics pretty dang thin.
Brom Wolven
I could just look myself, but how's the other group faring anyways?
Brom Wolven
lol

Whoh. go to run an errand and come back 40 messages behind. LOL.
I will add in that that was good fight an that I too do not want punches pulled. . We had the drop on them and the advantage that a few of us could see in low or no light, and we still had a reasonably hard time. As it should be.
I killed a player in a PFS game Tuesday night. In truth his party killed him. In a hard fight the sorcerer sorta panicked and dropped a confusion to catch all the bad guys but two allies too. Well you can't end the confusion effect as a standard, so after the fight was basically over the confused fighter rolls "attack nearest" and shield bashes the barbarian, already into his rage points, into a 40 feet deep "Creat Pit" pit. Dead. Confusion is not a friendly spell...

Fun!

As far as playing more games goes, I am about full here, but would love to get into both a SaS and RoW game. I have applied twice to a SaS game with the same character and after having been rejected twice am beginning to feel I like her better than DMs do. :)
I was working a submission to what looked like an incredible RoW game - really putting a lot of work into the submission with nordic poetry and everything, then the DM decides to close recruitment early and I can't ever apply. He gave 24 hours notice, but I was camping with scouts and did not see it in time. Sill a little bitter about that.
What I have found is you need to have a recruitment active most of the time to replace games that end up dying if you want to keep your plate full. I really need to check recruitments more often and am guilty of only looking at best evert 2 weeks.
Brom Wolven
Aaaaawkward....
Dendarial the Ken Hunter
No. It was earlier this spring. The DM had put a huge amount of work into it and it was highly sought after. Let me see if I can find the tread. I hope it is active and doing well. I meant go read it anyway.
Did Mezegis end recruitment early too?
Brom Wolven
No he just announced the 24 notice yesterday so it sounded like it could have been his.
Brom Wolven
I wish I could move things along, but Brom's a little out of it at the moment.

Hey, I was checking in on you guys and I saw that post. I agree with the CLW idea, but I felt it was worth pointing out that, come level 2, Hadin and Karse will both have Lay on Hands, which ought to help with that issue.
And yep, that's me, two battles without a scratch, then half dead because of an immobile plant.
Brom Wolven
Hey guys, my computer is gonew till monday and my phone posting sucks. Just a quick fyi.
Dendarial the Ken Hunter
Loot from the Bandit Camp: Here is what we found...
Coin – (85gp, 321 sp, 90gp) = 207 gold, 1 silver
masterwork studded leather
2 masterwork handaxes
4 daggers
small unlocked coffer
a pair of silver earrings
a wooden music box
three crates of furs and hides
and a polished wooden case of potent greenish herbal liquor. There are still eight bottles with liquor left in them.
Den is wearing the MW studded leather and would like to lay a claim to it, if no one else needs it more. He will add his normal studded leather to the loot to be sold to help offset the value.
Castor Antares
Adding the exploration group's loot to the amount above:
Coin – (14pp, 117gp, 338 sp, 90cp) = 291 gold, 7 silver
Weapons:
2 masterwork handaxes
4 daggers
a greatclub
Equipment:
50' silk rope
a canteen
three torches
a small box containing thirteen tindertwigs
Armor:
masterwork studded leather
Containers:
a pair of saddlebags
a belt pouch
small unlocked coffer
Items of value:
a freshwater pearl
a lapis lazuli
a piece of malachite
two turquoise stones.
a pair of silver earrings
a wooden music box
three crates of furs and hides
a polished wooden case of eight bottles of potent greenish herbal liquor
Castor has no need for any of it, and he'll be happy just to claim his fair share of gold. (While the masterwork studded leather is better than the regular studded leather he's wearing, there would really be no benefit for him.)
Dendarial the Ken Hunter
The handaxes are currently on Den and Brom correct?
Den and Brom carried them back, correct, but unless they remain unclaimed Den does not plan on claiming one. The armor is great for him though, and increases about 7 skills by 1 for him.
Brom Wolven
Brom doesn't keep the axe he carried back, as it's not great for throwing and he has his throwing axes for now.
Brom Wolven

Cappi replied to Brom, but I deleted it once I realized I was breaking up the whole ordeal going down at the moment. I'll wait until this resolves a bit before moving the focus :)
