Doctor Iiwo slides his knife back into the waist of his loincloth. He's stopped giggling and is making a soft tsking noise. "What a shame," is all he says, as he builds up the fire to burn the bodies.

Incineration is the best bet for monkey-ghouls. Iiwo will take an hour or so ensure that they are entirely cremated, then go back to sleep.

"I'll stand watch. I'm not gonna be getin' any sleep now."

She glances at Dr. Iiwo as he puts the monkeys to flame and shivers.

She heads back into the tent and puts on the Mithral Chain shirt she has and grabs the other quiver of arrows and the quiver of blunt arrows.

She seems to shiver throughout the whole watch, despite the humid air.

Jack waits until the end of his shift and goes inside the tent. He then proceeds to do something extraordinary :-) He takes his armor and sweaty clothes off, gets a clean outfit out of his bag of holding, puts the clean outfit on and then gets back into his armor. He makes a half-hearted attempt to clean his old outfit and sets it out so it might dry some while he goes to sleep.

Rufus was the first back to sleep. The comfort of clean linen helped Sergent calm down after a rough fight. The smell of burning ghoul-monkeys was not great, but surely better than the smell of just letting them lay there and rot next to the pavillion. Kiley joined Dr. Iiwo in a silent watch through the rest of the night.

Dawn came. There were still berries left over from yesterday's gathering for breaking the night's fast, though water would have to be carefully rationed again today. Soon everyone was either waking up on their own or easily woken up, except for Xoc Xoc. The primitive halfling sorceress seemed to sleep like a log and the blue ghost-like thing that was always by her side guarded her like a watchdog.

Soon, everyone had ate and drank their ration for the morning and all that was left to do was take down the pavillion tent. Xoc Xoc was roused with shouts so the deed could be accomplished. When they were done, the only sign left of their having passed through this way would be the stack of charred monkey corpses stacked on the road.

It was still early morning and the heroes had only walked for a half-hour when...

Ciaran saw them first, coming down the Old Road towards them. There were five of them -- the biggest, freakiest monkeys they had ever seen. Each had two heads and six arms. They were 132 ft. away and closing.

At least Lord Rufus had a bath first...

Ciaran raises his hand as a warning and exclaims: "There is no place in the jungle for things like that! Whatever you once were, you are not animals anymore! Begone!"

Ciaran deeply inhales and lets out a powerful bestial howl. The party feels a distant rumble and the ground starts to tremble as something approaches from the side, about 40ft ahead of the party.

Though Rufus was the third person to see the monstrous monkeys charging, he was the quickest with his crossbow -- perhaps a bit too quick. Firing without aiming, his bolts flew wild and the monkeys dodged around them.

Had Rufus waited another few seconds, the blessing of the radiance streaming from Gerald might have steadied his hand more. It certainly seemed to aid Kiley. Her first arrow was just a light wound, but when she struck the same one a second time -- and in one of its throats -- it collapsed in the dirt.

Ciaran had been the first to spot the monkeys coming, but even now hesitated to act. He raised his hand as a warning and exclaimed, "There is no place in the jungle for things like that! Whatever you once were, you are not animals anymore! Begone!" And then began casting a spell.

The four remaining monstrous monkeys were well within short range of a longbow by the time Dr. Iiwo had an exploding arrow aimed and ready to fly, but even Gerald's steadying light did not help counter the speed of those monkeys. The arrow flew too far, crashing into the dirt behind the advancing monkeys.

Sergent waited until the monkeys were closer and was rewarded for his patience. His first thrown missile struck a serious blow to the closest advancing monkey. The monkey slowed down, an easy target now for the second thrown missile that was a killing head shot.

Xoc Xoc, Xahara, and Chongo stood their ground, choosing to wait for the coming melee. "Demons...they are demons..." Chongo mumbled out loud.

The three remaining monkeys are 30' away now. They can reach and also attack next round. Ciaran's summoned monsters will also come next round.

A large, horned bull with a black hide appeared roughly 10 ft. behind the monkeys. Eyeing them with blood-shot eyes and stomping its hoof, it charged, almost without pause.

Yes, this is now round 2

Lord Rufus continued to pump crossbow bolts into the monstrous monkeys with superhuman deadliness. The first bolt killed a monkey outright as it charged Jack. Another bolt seriously injured one that was charging Rufus.

Gerald delayed, his intentions not clear yet.

Kiley struck only once, but it was a good hit, nailing the same one Rufus had seriously injured. It died, her arrow sticking out of its chest.

Going to delay a bit longer for Gerald's intentions.

Deciding he has waited long enough, Xôc Xôc calls out to Xahara in Halfling, directing her towards the strange Monkey on the far right as he himself seems to increase his physical stature, if only by a little.

Round 2 hasn't ended yet.

Gerald rushed 15 ft. towards the monkeys and met the remaining ones part way. "Abomination!" he shouted, as he slashed with his scimitar and dug a moderate wound into a two-headed monkey's hide.

Two of the three monkeys attacked Gerald, raking at him with twelve clawed arms between them, but Gerald's bright shining light that shed from him blinded their eyes and his flashing scimitar drove them back. The third circled around their combat, making its way for the others.

Ciaran had targeted Kiley's target with a storm burst spell, but when he saw that Kiley's target had fallen from her arrow and not risen back up, he switched his spell at the last moment to the remaining monkey racing towards him. A torrential downpour sprang out of nowhere and began pounding down on the heads of the charging, shrieking monkey monster.

Ciaran's summoned auroch bull appeared in the Old Road, bearing down on the monkeys attacking Gerald. Gerald dodged out of the way in time as the half-ton bull bore down on the uninjured monkey and trampled it into the ground.

Xôc Xôc only had to sprint 7 ft. to the edge of the torrential downpour and stab inside it. The monstrous monkey fell to the ground, stunned. There was only one monkey left for Jack to take down and it was an already injured one attacking Gerald. He thought he had a clear shot so he took it -- but Gerald moved into the way and took the chakram in the back instead. Gerald is at 47 out of 62 hp

Dr. Iiwo had taken the longest to aim and was rewarded doubly by not hitting Gerald and seriously injuring Gerald's only remaining opponent with his arrow.

It was hard to argue with the evidence. As vastly powerful as the heroes were, few things had ever been able to stand against them individually. Together, they seemed unstoppably powerful. Surely whatever mysteries Madaro-Shanti held would also be no match for them.
