Fedryn shudders as the kobolds tell them what they have been using the agreements for. Nevertheless, he follows the others as they troop past.
"Perhaps you can ask about the katana?" he whispers to Marisan.

![]() |

Buoyed by their apparent diplomatic success, Marisan smiles and says, "Thank you." She nods at Fedryn. "One last thing. Have you seen a... sword, made of a soft stone, the color green or maybe white-green?" She uses gestures to indicate what she believes to be the size and shape of the katana.

FauxPas75 |

OOC: OOOOhhhh, Rachel does it folks.
As the group of you move forward to enter the next room the 'lead' kobold perks up at the mention of the sword. "Why you not say you here for Fire Speaker sword? Fire Speaker come, he take clan from Tarka" he beats his chest as he says the name...you can only assume he must be Tarka. "You come with us, we go take back clan, you get sword I get clan, yes?" he says, while motioning the other three to come along, all of them now smiling at the thought of regaining thier clan...without having to do much more than stand aside.

![]() |

Fedryn thinks for a moment before nodding.
"Deal. We'll remove this Fire Speaker from power and you'll hand over the katana. If you break the deal, then Asmodeus will claim your soul," Fedryn says imperiously. "We've no time to sign the deal so we will simply have to shake on it."
Fedryn holds his hand out for Tarka to shake.

Marisan nods her agreement. "Right before we throw the door open, give me a second to request some aid from the spirit world."
Marisan will use a channel energy charge to activate her driftwood icon. When everyone is ready, she casts bless. She will position herself in the middle of the group. Finally, just as the door is being opened, she will cast resistance on herself.

FauxPas75 |

Marching into the next room you see that this large room was once two, but the wall between them has been partially torn down, and the broken door now serves as a makeshift altar. The candles and strange statues that decorate it all face the dark alcove beyond the broken wall. A small band of kobolds kneel before the alcove, they quickly jump up as Tarka enters with your small band. Tarka quickly begins to speak to them in rapid draconic, they look from him to the alcove as he explains that the Fire Speaker has stolen the great green sword from these people, taken the fire that should be thiers and has been a general ass to everyone you know...for that you've come to chalange him and kill him.
That said, all of the kobolds call for the Fire Speaker to make his presense known...a Voice calls out of the alcome, a large draconic figure seems to be speaking, glowing fire appears from it's mouth...which oddly doesn't move as it speaks. "Why have you come here? I've stolen nothing from you, begone, before I roast you where you stand" with that a word is said in a foreign language and a gout of fire woshes out, falling well short of your group, but giving a good idea that this fire speaker means business.

"I'm being diplomatic," Fedryn says to Marisan and Hannya. "We help this guy by removing the Fire Speaker and we get the katana. Problem solved, without wading through a clan of kobolds. Unless, of course, you want to get involved in wanton genocide."

![]() |

"Return the sword, leave the kobolds in peace and you get to leave with your head attached to your neck," Fedryn says boldly. "Or you can do it the hard way. Why don't you step out of that alcove so we can get a good look at you?"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
FEAR ASMODEUS, BIATCH!

![]() |

He tried to toast us! I was being diplomatic up until that point! Now the horns and pointy beard comes out! I'm still trying to end it without bloodshed, simply by scaring the beasty into giving us the sword and leaving the kobolds in peace. If he happens to return after we've left, at least I've met my end of this bargain. ;)
Never make a deal with an Asmodeus-worshipping Hellknight aspirant.

FauxPas75 |

OOC this should be ugly for me....And hey, the flames were my way of intimidating you all! But I'm a sneaky little bum and I'll do my best be get a few hits in before I flee....errrr, die.
No one emerges from the darkness, and nothing more is said....
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33sneak check. That's right, +17 bonus.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 init
Give me a perc check guys...I'll be shocked if anyone seesme, but well try anyway.

FauxPas75 |

Holy s@#t, unless you allow 20s as an auto pass, no one can make that
:) This guys a one hit, maybe two hit kill....if someone gets a 20 I'll let you take combat in the same round rather than after the suprise round, but I gotta have some fun doing damage to you all :)

FauxPas75 |

Elwyn:
Perc Check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Challenge ACCEPTED!
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14...and failed miserably!
Harboth continues to stand near the front of the group, looking ominous. He attempts to examine the "Fire-Speaker." Damn - light from the fire has messed with my vision. I'll get that sucker soon enough, and if I have to, I'll take some of these kobolds down, too.

FauxPas75 |

It takes a brief moment to recognize the fiant sound of whispering come from behind you, when you do finally recognize the sound for what it is it's to late. A fan of bright colors emites from directly behind you as a small humanoid with dark skin lets loose with a blast of color spary (OOC: I love color spary for low level combat).
---------
Will save folks... (DC 11...he's caster level 1)
2 HD or less: The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. (Only living creatures are knocked unconscious.)
This was the suprise round...following this...I high tail it out of here like the coward I am, heading for the well room....and points beyond. From where he's standing to get out of the ruins it's about 180' down the 3 rooms and a couple hallways you came to get to this point...Catch him quick guys. He gets out of sight and well, you've seen his + to sneak :)
Elwyn: 1d20 ⇒ 16 (safe)
Jubei: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 (failed)
unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 rounds
then blinded and stunned for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds
and then stunned for 1 round.
and of course Elwyn missed that first shot when it would have done the most good :(

![]() |

Neglected this one before: initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 I am beginning to see a trend here.
Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Unbelievable. BLINDED AGAIN!
unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 rounds
then blinded and stunned for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds
and then stunned for 1 round.
Approximately 8.2 seconds after the color spray hits his sensitive eyes, Harboth lets out a godawful scream - HFLGAAAAUYGLLGGGGGHHHH!!! and proceeds to drop his axe, his hands shooting up to cover his face.
Stupid magick lights! he yells through his hands.

FauxPas75 |

Running for all he is worth the skulk takes off down the chamber you first met Tarka in, grabbing the open doorway to steady himself he soon slips down the old abandoned well room
sneak once out of site 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 giveing him a penalty of -10 due to the heavy breathing and what not...he has racial camo.

![]() |

Will: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Unconscious: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Blinded: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Fedryn slumps to the floor for a minute, then groggily comes to a few seconds later.
One of the kobolds will need to tell us where the katana is now, and can I suggest maps? I doubt we'd have all stood together in a tight 'Color spray' cone unless physically impossible to adopt any other tactic. Granted it is too late now for this encounter, but perhaps something to consider for Part 3?

FauxPas75 |

Elwyn takes off after the skulk, arrow knocked mad at the ready as they tear off through the ruins. It's in the spider room that the realizes that he's all alone...and the sword went flying in the room before.
It takes him a few moments to get back to the group...as most of you are waking up to cheering kobolds who cheer louder when Elwyn comes back in....
IOC: your good now. Elwyn explains about the sword in the well.

![]() |

For a split second, Marisan is dazzled by the rainbow of light around them, but she shakes it off and gives chase, soon realizing that whatever this Fire Speaker was, he was just too fast for her to keep up with. As soon as she sees him drop the katana in the well, she slows to a halt. She turns to Elwyn, who was right on her heels. "Why don't you go tell the group what happened. I'm going to stay here by our prize. I doubt he'll be coming back to reclaim it, but after all we've been through, let's not take any chances."

FauxPas75 |

ELwyn: Returning to the group Elwyn explains what has happened and how he and Marisan lost track of the little man, but that he tossed the sword down the well. (OOC: Sorry guys, don't want to play someone's character for RP sections..combat is fine, but for rp, I'd rather not). Feel free to do your thing. I expect we can finish this one this weekend and start on 3. I'm going to be out of town but will have my iPad with me...posting might be low, but I'll post :)

![]() |

Upon waking up to the sound of kobolds cheering, Harboth instinctively reaches for his axe to earn some revenge - but then realizes they are cheering for the party.
That's a new one...
After shaking out a few cobwebs, he greets Marisan and Jubei. Ha! You've recovered the sword. Most excellent! Anything else for us to do before we head out and collect our just rewards?

![]() |

Presumably we've gone down the well to retrieve the katana. Marisan has rope to help with this. Is the katana in OK shape? Also, I don't know if there were any other exits out of the room with the Fire Speaker besides the one we went through?

![]() |

So we have the katana; we have the trade agreements; we killed the undead beasty... shall we return to Absalom the triumphant heroes? FP, do we have much left to explore if we decide to clear the Keep?

![]() |

OK, let's go then! In case we want to confirm which documents actually are trade agreements, Marisan will gather all of them together and cast comprehend languages.
Their work done, Marisan brushes her hands. "Well done, team! Let's head back to the Grand Lodge."
