FauxPas75 |
Flipping a coin into the offering bowl Nestor shrugs and gives a sheepish grin What, it can't hurt anything, right?
Marching on thru the mountain trail it soon gives way to the northern swamps. Thick blobs of fog dance in between large tickets as the foul stench of swamp gas pollutes the air. Several exotic species of vines twist along the vapor-shrouded path, creating an ethereal seeming tangle. At random intervals, a splash of fetid water sounds in the distance, signaling the presence of frogs or other bog creatures. A large log rests across a dirt path, standing five feet tall. A moldering wood door covers one of the hollow ends of the log, and a makeshift mud chimney emits a thin wisp of blue smoke. From behind the crude house come the sound of someone humming an off-key tune.
FauxPas75 |
The sound of humming and soft singing stops for a moment, then resumes and grows louder. Grmbling in draconic the door is opened and quite a sight greets you. A kobold in little more than rags and a wolfskull as a hat greets you, she steps forward and looks up at you before deciding she doesn't like the looks of you as she screams you can't have my babies!
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 init for bog mother and snapjaw
And yes Jubei, the kobold is evil....and not right in the head
FauxPas75 |
Screaming in draconic about not letting you have her babies the old woman/kobold whistles. At the same time the swamp next to you erupts and a croc lumbers towards you.
IOC: croc is using the kobolds init...crazy old bat. Sorry....you really want to have this encounter after I re-read it :)
Harboth Redacre |
intiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Harboth charges the croc with another HRRROOAAARGH!
attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 = 22
damage: 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
New boots, anyone?
FauxPas75 |
You guys suck, you know that.
Before the Bog Mother can even shriek out that her faithful companion is dead she joins the croc in the afterlife, her 'children' will now have to grow up motherless. A quick search of the place reveals little of value, a auickbsearchnof the body finds a wand (clw) and a few gems, but little else. In the back of the log/house you find a small patch of thistles in uneven rows, but no children can be found anywhere.
Nestor, feeling so close to your goal urges the group forward to Piers End.
The rest of the day goes in misery as every type of biting insect seems to live in this swamp, and all of them seem to be after you all. But by dusk your small band trudges into the sleepy town of Piers End.
The town itself isn't much to see, an inn, a tiny storefront, a few homes and a miserable little pier. But, it is the fastest way to get to your destination.
Nestor informs you that here you will need to find safe passage to the isle across the channel so that your task can be completed...but tomorrow is soon enough for that he calls as he heads toward the inn, a bath, and a real bed.
Marisan |
Marisan takes the wand for use during the rest of the adventure, unless Jubei wants it
She follows behind Nestor toward the town's only inn. Once there, Marisan asks for a room, and inquires about who to talk to about getting passage across the channel.
Marisan |
Oh, yes, that's right. For some reason my mind saw "CMB" instead of "UMD" and I figured she was about to wrestle me for it. :) Rachel, if you want the wand for this session, feel free.
Marisan shrugs."I guess we'll figure out the details in the morning."
FauxPas75 |
Nestor pays for the rooms for the evening, a room to himself and the other 3 rooms in the inn to the rest of you.
Morning comes early as the cock crows in the yard and the day blooms rainy and dreary. As the lot of you slowly wake up Nestor is already down beow finishing his breakfast. there are three ships large enough to take the lot of us, they should be easy enough to spot. I'll let you all go make arrangements while I wait here out of the rain. he says with a smile.
FauxPas75 |
Heading down to the docks it is not hard to pick the three ships from the rest of the fishing vessels. The Larry, The Moe and The Shemp. You can approach each of the vessels to see who is willing to take you over
Ooc: or I can put you on a boat and tell you the price.
Rachel Stone |
"Let's see who will take us."
Rachel wanders over to the Larry, and asks, "Excuse me, but where is the captain of this fine vessel?"
Upon finding the captain, she asks, "Excuse me Captain, but me and my group here are with the Pathfinders, and we need to get across the sea here. Would you be so kind as to take us?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
FauxPas75 |
It is a gloriously boring 12 hour trip from Piers End to Eacadar. Upon arrival the captain points you to Grindylow's Goblet before heading below deck to check on the hull.
The sounds of a busy tavern echo off the wooden walls of this unusual building. Resting precariously over Escadar’s harbor, the Grindylow’s Goblet offers an unequaled view of the water. In the bar’s center, a thick glass aquarium presents a striking display. Within the tank, a coral statue of a goblin with the lower body of an octopus hosts a school of colorful fish that flit about the nooks and crannies of its tentacles.
Two servers wander the floor offering meals and drinks to the customers and yourselves. An attractive woman tends bar behind the counter. Nestor smiles as he enters and takes a look around before limping over to a center table and setting his cane besides himself to enjoy a beer while you wait.
FauxPas75 |
Drinks are served and the group settles in. Locals come in for a drink before heading home and sailors come and go as ships put in to port. The bartender ships out drinks and flirts with the sailors safe behind her bar from their groping hands. The barmaids have no such protection and they take their pinches, and wandering hands as they short the sailors thir change while they wander table to table.
Nestor keeps an eye on the door, watching for the gilmen to bring in their package to see if a deal can be made. After the first beer goes down he orders another but nurses it as he waits.
Marisan |
Marisan surveys the inside of the tavern, taking special interest in the aquarium in the center of the bar. She spends a long while watching the fish, and compliments the woman behind the bar on the display. "What beautiful fish!" After a pause, she asks, "Anything interesting or unusual happening in town lately?
diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Before leaving the bar, she orders herself a beer as well. When it comes, she rejoins the group at their table and shares anything she learns.
FauxPas75 |
Jubei: she's no Rachel, but she wouldn't get kicked out of a decent club.
Marisan:nothing special, just waiting for the shift end end so I can get back home for the night. . Up close you can see the gills on her neck, she's a gilmen herself.
Jubei: nothing to rough, fairly quiet night all things told. She is smiling, but she's been smiling at all the drunks tonight.
Hannya Jubei |
Rachel walks around the bar, enjoying whatever lively conversation she can find, and feeling good seeing all these men looking at her
If Cha 12+ is good looking, then my 18 is ridiculous
Soooo... Rachel. We've worked together more than once, right?

Yes, we have
Hannya Jubei |
Jubei looks away from Rachel- because he can take a hint- and back to the bartender.
Diplomacy roll for pickup line: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
"You seem like you could use a bit of positivity tonight. You know, we Paladins are good with that... the 'lay-on-hands' thing."
Hannya Jubei |
Suprised and pleased with Rachel's pull, Jubei responds.
"I've had a few, but I know you haven't bought me one yet."
Jubei gives a sly smirk. He turns momentarily to the bartender to say.
"See, this is what happens when you don't advantage of the opportunity!!"
