Marisan examines the webbing from afar, trying to identify its source.

Knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

She will also cast vigor on herself

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

Marisan: arachnus gigantus would be the scientific term. It is hidden somewhere in the webbing.

The room itsel appears to be surrounded by the webs, with only a thin gauntlet down the center clear of them...enough to walk single file down the center.

Silver Crusade

Since I wasn't invited to drink eat a particular thing at the party, I assume I still have the Antitoxin? If so, I drink it now.

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

You do still have the antitoxin, the party you were offered drinks all night, but never from any one person, just wait staff.

Liberty's Edge

F Mwangi druid 3.1, hp 18/18, AC 16 (t 13, ff 13), Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +8

Marisan shares what she knows with the group. "It's likely to be large, so we should be prepared for an ambush. Any ideas?"

Elwyn switches to his short bow and draws an arrow. He places his lantern on the floor. Alternativey will pass it to Tom if he wants it.

Ooc: let me know when your ready to go in. Your torch does not show the end of the room, though Harboth can see it regardless. Someone remind me....dark vision is like sharp black and white, not heat based, right?

Liberty's Edge

F Mwangi druid 3.1, hp 18/18, AC 16 (t 13, ff 13), Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +8

Yes, just black and white, but otherwise like normal vision.

Marisan struggles to see deeper into the chamber. "Harboth, can you see whether there are any exits on the far end of the room?"

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

Ooc for Harboth: if there is a door it is hidden by webbing.

Harboth peers into the gloom, looking for a spider or a door on the other side:

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Assuming I see nothing more than what our GM just posted:

Damn! There's too much webbing for me to see any door. As Elwyn said, we could always throw a torch in there and see if it clears things out. We'd have to hope it doesn't clear out any more documents, but maybe that Qadiran will be happy with what we've got.
He should be, Harboth mutters to himself.

Harboth takes a tentative step forward across the threshold, axe at the ready.

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

Walking into the room reveals it to be roughly 15 feet wide, but the outside edges are all covered in sticky silk webbing. The room itself is roughly 50' feet long, or at least you assume the far edge is the end, it too being covered in webbing.

Liberty's Edge

F Mwangi druid 3.1, hp 18/18, AC 16 (t 13, ff 13), Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +8

Trident in both hands, Marisan will follow close behind Harboth into the web-filled chamber, hoping to catch a glimpse of any spiders before they can drop on a member of the party.

I think Elwyn might be the only one with a Perception bonus high enough to see that spider - sneaky bugger!

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

Looks like your right. Let the surprise attack begin!

As the party moves into the long room and begins to look for a way out the giant spider jumps from the southwestern corner of the room, headed straight for Harboth, the man in the front.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Missing on its charge the beast stands its ground in the cramped corridor, facing off against the half Orc.

Ooc: this is a 5' wide corridor for combat. The spider is in front of Harboth. Take that into account when rolling, if you can reach it. It's spider, Harboth, Marisan then who ever. Close quarter combat, shooting past friends. You can get into the webs if you like :)

-4 to shoot into combat.

Round 1:

init - 1d20 ⇒ 15
Atk - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 crit ? 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Damage - 1d6 ⇒ 6 no crit.
Poison dc: 14 fort based 1d2 str damage for 4 rounds (max -8 str if it hits big over 4 rounds)

Elwyn can attempt a shot, Marisan has reach and Harboth is standing toe to toe.

Liberty's Edge

F Mwangi druid 3.1, hp 18/18, AC 16 (t 13, ff 13), Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +8

My perception check was a natural 20. I don't know if we're playing that a natural 20 is always a success here or not. Not a big deal.

initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

If you're saying I can jab at the spider from behind Harboth (tridents aren't reach weapons)...

attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Otherwise, I will use Storm Burst, a ranged touch attack

ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 and -2 to attacks for 1 round if it hits

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

Ooc I am playing that 20s are good usually, but I need something to be half a challenge for you guys or I will have to toss in a dragon! I thought the trident was a reach weapon, storm burst it is then.

Ac for spider is 14, 13 touch

Harboth shrugs off the spider's venom, but its mighty strike is enough to make his huge swing miss the mark - narrowly. Only the spider's quick reflexes and 68,000 eyes save it from certain death.

Ok, if I'm right combat now looks like this....

Rachel, Elwyn, Marisan, Harboth, spider, Jubei and Fedryn.

Jubei and Harboth get a bonus for having the spider between them (can't remember what the bonus is called, haven't had coffee yet...)

Let's do round 2 and 3 just to be safe.

OOC: Jubei what?! you did the bulk of the damage to the thing, 10 points in one hit?!

Fedrwyn, it's 1d2 every round for 4 rounds, just go ahead and roll them all. take the knock in str into account in case we get into another combat round.

Checking through the sticky silk webbing Marisan uncovers the following in a pouch on one of the two dead kobold bodies wrapped in webs. Now that your not concentrating on the spider you also notice a doorway leading to the east near where the spider jumped out from. it's easy enough to remove the webs, but the door is once again stuck due to age and wrapping. (ooc: assume it opens with a dc 15 str check if you want to go through it).

In Pouch:
30 gold (don't bother writing it down, you know the deal)
Pearl (yes it's magical..., again, don't write it on a character sheet).

How treasure works for the new players: Everything you find in an adventure can be used for that adventure, however once you get back to the Lodge you hand everything (gold, jewels, magic items) over to the lodge. They in turn give you gold for the items. I will give you a chronicle sheet at the end of each adventure, on this will be a list of items you can purchase in this adventure (things you found, that are now up for sale to each of you). You use your gold to purchase those items to keep forever.
