Crap, had to happen in my sleep

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Attack opponent that hit me:

Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Jubei screams in fury, rather than pain HOW DARE YOU?!

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

Jubei's attack severs the poor human nearly in half (ooc: she had 1 hp left).

OOC: Rachel, your MM will go against the halfling assuming it survives Harboth/Elwyn's attack. Once those Harboth is done feel free to tie up and turn in the two sleeping beauties...or kill them in their sleep if Jubei will let you :)

If the Halfling survives the attack by Harboth, and the MM then lets get a round 2 from everyone...I've already got yours Rachel.

Assuming the crazy halfling survives round 1, attack on Harboth for round 2: Hit 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12, 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 for damage? Which is a hit on Harboth. (only to take effect if he survives round 1, and Rachels Round 2 MM attack).

Between the frenzy of the halfling forcing him to drop his guard as he rages at his enemy (you all) and Harboths masterful axe blow, combined with the magical bolts of Rachel the poor halfling never really stood a chance. His body blasted by magical bolts as it bleeds out its last in the dirt and filth of the alley.

What were they thinking? What could they have wanted? Was this random or were we set up? Elwyn's paranoia kicking into gear.

I say we tie them up and ask them a few, err ... pointed questions? I want to know if they are working for anyone. Then lets hand them over to the Lodge, let them sort them out. Any more time with us and they won't have much time left. He boasts.

COming out of sleep slowly, and with stinging cheeks from the slaps, it doesn't take long for you to learn that it was Deandre's idea, the woman that fell first to the first few attacks. She had worked to get the street performers to block the streets so that she could funnel your group into this alley...a tight quartered area where, they all thought, their abilities would overwhelm a group of inexperienced pathfinders. Everyone knows that Pathfinders have expensive gear, and lost items on them from time to time....the thought was to rob you, kill you if necessary, and then gather a larger group of thieves and thugs.

With that known, the words of Venture-Captain Ambrus come back to you, that the Society has enemies, and their members are always under threat, from all types of sources.

Speaking of the Venture-Captain, the time is getting late, and these prisoners can be turned in to the guard that is always around the Grand Lodge. Stopping in to give the VC the items you were sent to gather, and reporting on the success of getting access to the Vaults he is very pleased with your results. "Thank you for carrying out these tasks, and don't worry, not every mission for the Society will involve running errands about Absalom. I want to congratualte you all on proving your skill and responsibility. I promise, you next assignment will take you beyond the walls of Absalom. That said, please, take some time to rest, and heal up...some of you look a little worse for wear." he says. Pausing for a moment, he smiles and says "Venture-Captain Li, of the Lantern Lodge, has requested the society have a pressence at a gala she is having at her home and gardens. I would like you all to go and represent the Pathfinder Society for the Grand Lodge." Looking over the four of you he offers, "You might want to dress for the occassion." with that, he directs you to the quartermaster as he hands you a slip to give to him.

----
Scenario Success: For completing at least three of the four tasks in this scenario you will be awarded 1 prestige point.

Faction Missions: There are no faction missions in this scenario, you have not picked factions yet (and won't until after the third mission). However, for completeing the scenario missions you will be awarded 1 prestige point for the faction missions as well.

Points awarded: 2 - to everyone.

I still need everyone's email addresses so that I can send out your Chronicle Certificates to each of you.

We will begin with the second scenario on Monday, this gives me time to figure out the GM reporting I need to do, and get's Harboth back from his weekend trip.

Pathfinder Society First Steps, Part II: To Delve the Dungeon Deep

As promised by Venture-Captain Ambrus each of you has received an invitation to a party being held tomorrow evening at the Lantern Lodge, the beautiful and exotic estate of the Tian venture-captain, Amara Li, in Absalom's Petal District. The invitation informs you that it is for the Snapdragon Festival, a traditional Gokan holiday featuring fireworks and rich plum wine. A note is handwritten on each of your invites: Please seek me out upon your arrival. Signed Amara Li.

Judging by the rich paper used for the invitation you get the impression that this is more of a formal affair.

Make your preps for the party, if you need to purchase anything let me know what your buying and how much your spending on it so I can update it in the new chronicle sheet for this game.

Upon reading the invitiation Elywn pauses and thinks to himself. "I can hardly show up in worn traveller's clothes and scuffed armor. I wonder if the Lodge might have something more suitable that I could wear?"

Do we have a room at the lodge where we can securely store our stuff? Or do we need to walk into a dinner party fully equipped?

You can go all out like Hannya did, or you can consider double to cost to be 'dressy' enough. I would leave the hawk at home, or just let it go hunting for the night.

OOC: Feel free to keep doing your purchases, just include it in a post as either an OOC or a Spoiler. Here we go folks.

The evening of the Snapdragon Festival could not be more perfect, the sun has just started its decent in the west and there is not a cloud in the sky.

Only the luckiest or most influential Pathfinders receive invitations to Amara Li's annual Snapdragon Festival celebration, and wise recipients take advantage of them. The armor of blooming orchids and flowing wine mixes with the acrid tang of recently exploded fireworks, and he sound of strangely discordant music comes from a duo of Tian women playing an unusual stringed instrument and a reed flute. The crowd mingles calmly, most guests clearly hoping to be seen more than actually paying attention to those with whom they converse, though the plum wine seems to have affected many who now move about the lodge's grounds waving sparkling wands of fire and shooting whirring, whizzing fireworks into the sky above the koi pond.

After spending a few moments wandering the gathering and inspecting the beautifully manicured grounds, you are each approached and invited to Amara Li's private study. When you arrive you find a woman seated on a reed mat before a low table set with an exquisite porcelain tea set. She motions for you all to sit with her around the table. Once you have done so, and the door is closed, she addresses you in a low, hushed voice without even the hint of a Tian accent. "Well met, Pathfinders, and welcome to the Lantern Lodge. I hope you find the Snapdragon Festival and my hospitality worthy of your time and energy. I have not brought you here for mere pleasantries, however, and wish to ask you to partake a dangerous mission on my behalf."
"Long ago, one of my most esteemed ancestors, who was rich in power but poor in sense, gave a gift to a foreign prince, a gift that prince did not deserve and my foolish ancestor had no right to give - a ceremonial jade katana. At the time the gift was sent, its recipient was invading this island. He laid siege to Absalom from his fortress in the foothills of the Kortos Mounts. Like those who came before him, the warlord failed to take Absalom and perished in the attempt. On the very day of his defeat, his castle crumbled to dust in a violent earthquake and has been lost to the centuries ever since. My family's heirloom was lost with it."
"A recent report by a group of Pathfinders gives me hope that they have finally found the ruin, and I might finally recover my family's treasure. I'm looking for an intrepid group to retrieve it for me, and I'm hoping that is you. The fame and wealth you will doubtlessly recover will bring you much honor within the Society, and if you deliver the Katana to me, you will have my favor as you begin your careers as full agents of the Pathfinder Society"

Harboth has himself a decent meal (3sp, plus a half-gallon of ale - 1sp) and spends the night at an inn (paid for common just to be forced to sleep in the stables. Typical.

He also purchases the following items:

  • a courtier's outfit for the evening (30gp),
  • a set of adventuring gear (Backpack, Bedroll, Blanket, Candle (4), Chalk (10), Fishing hook, Fishing net, Flint and steel, Grappling hook, Bullseye lantern, Mirror, Mug (clay), Oil (2 pints), Iron Pot, Rope, hemp 50', Sack (2), Sewing needle, Soap (.6 lb), Tent, Waterskin) (45gp, 6cp)(61.6 lbs)
  • a masterwork chain shirt (250 gp - selling studded leather, so net cost= 225gp)
  • cold iron greataxe and arrows (42gp - selling current greataxe, so net cost= 22gp)

That should leave me well dressed (ish), well rested, and with some shiny new gear.

Upon arriving, he immediately downs two cups of plum wine and gapes at the fireworks until the group gathers to meet Amara Li. He listens intently to the conversation, and grunts his agreement when Elwyn agrees to the mission.

Fedryn mingles with the guests before Amara summons them to her study. Fedryn is still unused to the finery in display in Absalom. He'd been born in the River Kingdoms where finery was sparse and even the Lictor at Fort Inevitable had decorated his quarters sparsely, despite his station.

Fedryn listens quietly as Amara outlines their task. It appears to be a straight-forward task. He lets the others try and draw information from her, after all his specialities lie in survival and various kinds of knowledge.

"Has anyone attempted to survey the surrounding area?" Fedryn asks, with the realisation that the ground may be unstable. "We don't want to disappear into a cavern because no one thought to check the stability of the ground surrounding the fortress."

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

"The Pathfinders who found the area were able to do a brief survey before they were driven off. I was not present at the debriefing of them when they returned. However, I was not told of the area being unstable, merely remote. What I describe below is her courtier's outfit.

By the way, what's the appropriate title a new recruit should use in speaking with a Venture Captain?

Marisan arrives at the Lantern Lodge wearing an inconspicuous long grey dress in the local style, neither too fancy nor too plain. Deep green leaves of some kind are woven into her long dark braids. Her expression suggests she is unfamiliar with the lodge, and perhaps new to Absalom entirely.

When summoned by Amara Li, she quietly takes a seat near the others and listens to the Venture-Captain, her hands folded in her lap. She nods in agreement as Elwyn offers the group's services for this assignment. When there is a break in the dialogue, she asks in a voice both soft and strong. "Can you tell us any more about this warlord and his invading army?"

M Human Lots of class, and high levels of it!

She gives you a brief history of the warlord and his failed invasion (OOC: standard deal, Absalom is the center of this world, everyone wants it, it's an impossible nut to crack etc etc). With her brief history completed she finishes with "I'm sorry, but I must be getting back to my guests, I do not want to dishoner them by not being seen" as she gets up to leave, making a close to this brief interview. She does once again request that you please stay and enjoy the rest of the festival.

As your small group wanders the gardens discussing tomorrows events you ae approached by a man in military finery, a bright blue overcoat with polished gold buttons, gold eagle epaulets and a fine, black felt tricorn hat proclaim this man to be an Eagle Knight. "Greetings, Pathfinders! I couldn't help but overhear that your headed out into the Cairn-lands on official Society business. Best of luck outside the city walls, though you look like sturdy enough adventurers. Perhaps not Eagle Knight material, but qualified for the work of a pathfinder." he says with a good nature smile. " A word of warning though, friends - beware the walking dead. The crumbling ruins surrounding the city are rife with them, and you're likely to run into more than your fair share over the course of your career. Undeath and the undead are more than just a physical peril, however. Undeath is the worst kind of slavery. And it should be eradicated like all servitude, whether to aristocracy or to mental control. Being enslaved to the flesh beyond when Pharasma calls one's soul to the Boneyard is a fate I wouldn't wish upon my greatest enemy. So, while you plumb the depths of Asad's Keep, remember your solemn duty to your fellow man - both living and dead. Any undead you encounter along the way should be freed of their earthly shell. If you prove your dedication to freedom, the resources of Andoran will be at your disposal in your future endeavors." he says before leaving with a smile and a wish to enjoy the festivities of the evening.
