As Harboth scans the area he notices that the carcus was mulled by a laetrile cat, scanning the far bank, where the party must soon cross he notices a large black cat with violet eyes watching the lot of you. Once it realizes its been spotted it disappears into the underbrush.
Ooc: you need to cross here, you can try to walk the fallen log (take 10 acrobatics) or cross in the fast flowing river.

![]() |

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Fedryn attempts to cross the log, but slips in due to his armour. Because he fell into the river, he is unable to ford across the river.

FauxPas75 |

Fedryn, I need either a 15 str or a 10 swim to pull your self out....each one you miss sends you further down the fast flowing river and bounces you off the rocks for 1'point of no lethal. Make it and your out.
So far, 1 point for falling in river, and you've been swept 20 feet down stream.

![]() |

Swim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Fedryn pulls himself out of the river, 20' farther down the river than his compatriots. He shakes himself off before he trots back up to meet them again.

![]() |

Harboth pauses when he gets to the log and looks to see if Fedryn might need assistance. Once he sees Fedryn fish himself out, Harboth slowly makes his way across the log, occasionally pausing to teeter and wave his arms for balance. taking 10.
Once on the other side, he exhales deeply.
Whew! Glad that's done with. Did you see that cat, by the way? Big black one with violet eyes. It was watching us when we went to cross the river.
In case I can identify anything else about the creature now that I have seen it: Knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

![]() |

Harboth thinks for a moment about the panther. I know that beast, I know that beast, oh, it's a- His thoughts are interrupted by a shockingly accurate pine cone falling on his head, and he forgets all details of the creature's nature. Damn! Stupid pine cone!

FauxPas75 |

slowly making his way across the fallen log bridge Nestor finally calls out for mercy. "I can't go any further, it's almost dark, we can't go on trouping through this underbursh all night. Besides, with the water here at our backs it leaves a nice solid back drop for us to make camp against." Looking at the rapidly setting sun you realize he's right. it's either forced march all night long...something the weakend Nestor obviously can't handle, or call it quits for the night.

![]() |

"Let's set up camp then. We have a long road ahead of us and the rest will help us greatly. I'll take first shift of watch."
I do a subtle scowl at Nestor. I know he's up to something.
Untrained Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 2
WELL THEN, just blind suspicion.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 stealth
It is late into your watch Jubei, as the soft sounds of your sleeping companions drift on the wind and the music of the night carries through the forest. There is still an hour left to your watch to go.
Jubei: Give me a perc, a init and might as well throw in round 1
To my sleepers, if you get awoken, bear in mind you are most likely out of your armor for sleeping. Round 1 will be Jubei and I, round two will start the rest....now to see if I get a surprise round. The rest of you give me init and round 2 combat if I haven't run off into the night

Being as silent as the great cat can the Krenshar slips out of the heavy underbrush to attack the nearest sleeping form.

Who just happens to roll at the right moment to avoid the beasts jaws.
Missing it's attack it springs forward to attack the only awake member of the party, Jubei.

Pulling back it's face at the call of Jubei to wake the party the beast attempts to demoralize him.

FauxPas75 |

Hell, just read everyone's round to...lots dead :(....
As the final blow lands on the beast Urdil Thunderhoof bursts into the clearing, spear poised to strike the beast when he realizes it is dead he lowers the weapon and beams at the lot of you we had tracked the beast for miles before it lost us. Obviously it did not get past the lot of you. As thanks for this feat please accept these furs, they are fine quality and will help keep you warm in the freezing mountain passes ahead.. With that he hands over enough furs to make one cold weather outfit before heading out to alert the rest of his tribe that the beast is dead.
A survival check of 15 can turn these into cold weather gear.
The rest of the night goes peacefully and you wake up rested....
If you slept in armor that gives fatigue if slept in remember to take that into account.
It is well into the next day when it becomes noticinle that the air is in fact getting colder, though the normal temp is quite nice. It is near dusk when you come upon a frozen covered wagon to the side of the road. It appears these folks tried to make the pass in the dead of winter...it did not go well for them Nestor says, pointing out the dead bodies near the wagon, wrapped in thick furs to protect form cold that was colder than expected...
A dc 12 survival will gives clues to the weather

![]() |

Marisan shivers as the temperature drops noticeably. "Let's see if we can turn those furs into something serviceable," she says, trying not to let on that her teeth have begun to chatter.
She's likely not the best at survival, so she'll try to give a +2 to someone else's roll by using aid another
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
OK, never mind. And to try and get some sense of the impending weather...
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The skies suggest some kind of... weather. :p

![]() |

With the threat of the beast past, and given his watch is over, Fedryn would remove his armor. Not sure if it counts for avoiding fatigue though.
First survival check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Second survival check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

FauxPas75 |

Looking in the wagon you see that it could possibly fit 5 of you, but not all 7.
Resting for the night in the wagon is cold, but bearable for the 5 that do rest in there. For the two forced to sleep outside its not quite so easy of a night.
2 of you please give me a survival 15 checks, passing that will give you a +4 to fort to withstand the cold, I'll need 4 fort checks dc 15 +1 per check....so 15' 16' 17' 18 to avoid 1d6 of non lethal damage per failed fort save.
I'd recommend the rangers, assuming they have ranks in survival...

![]() |

Her arms wrapped around her, Marisan eyes the inside of the wagon. "I would prefer to sleep in the wagon, as I'm unaccustomed to such... how would you say - frigid? - temperatures. Maybe the two who sleep outside can take turns wearing the furs."

![]() |

Can I skin the beast? Probably didn't bring any tanning supplies, but it would be nice to be able to make extra cold weather gear if there's any possibility of such.
Since we won't all fit in the wagon, why don't Fedryn and I stay outside. We can trade taking watch while the other sleeps in the furs. I'll take first watch.
Does that affect our saves? While on watch, Harboth will wear his armor and wrap up in his blanket.
In case it doesn't:
survival check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
fort 1: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 4 = 22
fort 2: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 4 = 23
fort 3: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 4 = 9
fort 4: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 4 = 26

FauxPas75 |

Hold up, I happen to have a small tent. Should be able to fit two in it!
The tent will block the wind, but not the cold. Give me 1 fort save against the cold and take av+2 from Harboth's first save kick-assery. Each point above on the survival save allows a +2 to one players fort save.
Rachel - you don't see any wood in the wagon at first Blane....it's a bit of a mess.

FauxPas75 |

I meant i was gonna break off a portion of the wagon
I don't think its gonna be necessary with Harboth's bonus, but you could just search the wagon....assuming you guys do that and take 10 (and to move us past this little lesson in cold weather gear) we'll just point out the wood heater in the corner and enough wood to keep the wagon nice and toasty warm all night long....as well as point out the three bodies with cold weather gear on them again....
(sorry guys, just advancing to something more interesting than a night in the cold).
---
The cold of the night passes in crisp silence. The five in the wagon toasty warm, the two outside freezing their butts off as they resent being nice enough to agree to stay in the cold.
The next day dawns with Harboth and Fedryn alive and well, but chilled to the bone outside the wagon, and the rest of the party well rested and toasty warm as they hastily break fast.
Advancing forward along the mountain trail the pass windows around the mountain, up ahead, about 50' above your current location a light can be seen glinting from a ledge, the way up doesn't look overly difficult and a quick climb up reveals a small statue of a woman complete with a nearby shrine resting on the ledge. The glinting light seen from the path was the sun's reflection off a number of coins and gens in the shrine's offering bowl.

Elwyn attempts to appraise the value of the gems.

FauxPas75 |

Unsure of the gems, but you would guess that there is at least a few hundred gold coins in the bowl.
You are unfamiliar with the shrine.
Nestor looks at the shrine and thinks for a few moments...This should be a shrine to Lady Kayle, a Taldan adventurer who sacrificed herself so that her comrades could defeat the great dragon Maejerex, who terrorized the Isle of Kortos until 4592 ar.. With that he takes a quick look at the bowl before shrugging and walking a short distance away.
