At the end of the hall there is another set of doors as before they open when you approach. Writing above the door in Androsan says "Geology"
Inside a long table with various unusual stones and dirt samples heaped on it sits along the southern wall of this room, while to the north a line of metal desks with glowing panels and buttons are placed next to a large humming device. The heart of this device seems to be some sort of flickering sphere of reddish brown mud or dirt. Dust covers much of this room, save for a strangely clean swath between the doors, which leads to the strange humming device.
The flickering orb is a forcefield sphere holding something up it looks like a bunch of dirt and moss
Blood trails on the ground seems to indicate bodies were dragged trough this room to the next one but there are no prints for whatever was dragging them.
Kurgu |
"Have bodies been sucked into this...orb?", Kurgu wonders out loud, clearly suspicious.
"Can we turn this thing off so we can safely pass? Or destroy it?"
Ironperenti |
"That or its tracks get covered by the dragging bodies. No different than dragging branches behind you to hid your prints in the wild. Kul'Theraka says. Then he keeps a wary distance from the flickering sphere and moves to investigate the door. Checking the blood consistency, color, and layout he will try to determine how many bodies and how long ago they were moved.
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
The dice on this particular thread hate me.
Falvastar Kraigsmith |
Falv rejoins the group after investigating the previous area. "Ah and what do we have here." He inspects the writing above the door. "Geology." He says out loud to no one in particular. He makes a circuit of all the flashy nobs and buttons in the room. "Hmm, wonder how that field orb works." He'll walk over and see if he can figure out how to turn it on/off or move it.
know (eng): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
DireMerc |
You feel a rumble and the entire structure seems to shake a little bit and all the lights flicker after a moment it stops but several terminals shut themselves off and the shield orb pops like a bubble and it's contents lands on the table with a splat.
There is a moment of silence but then you hear a voice speaking to you inside your heads asking questions in a tone that seems to show confusion. (telepathy)
“Where am I?” and “Who are you?” and “What is this place?”
Kurgu |
Kurgu starts looking around, hammer in hand.
Loudly and clearly, he speaks:
"Aye! I am Kurgu, of the Kellid. I seek Khonnir beneath Torch Hill! Where is he? Who are you?"
Mira Oralia |
Voices in her head was not something that Mira was accustomed to having, and that brought her up short, much like it did everyone else. In a reaction, her eyes look everywhere, from the smooth walls and ceiling of an unknown metal, to back the way they came, as well as what was in front of them. So far, this has been an extremely uncertain expedition, and she could empathize with what the others had gone through. She was only hoping that some of the previous expeditions still survived.
She was about to answer Galnikatix's question, when Kurgu replied, and that reassured her that she was not losing her mind along with her sense of comprehension down here. Warily, she rested her hand on the hilt of her hammer, still looking everywhere for the source of that voice.
Kul'Theraka |
Kul’Theraka started singing a song in his head to thwart any attempts at mind reading. Simultaneously, he moved to the door to see if it would open so he could look for the wizard or beast that was speaking on n their minds.
Kul'Theraka |
"Whoa, it's a mind talking slime." Kul'Theraka says and moves to the far side of the room away from it. Once there he starts looking through his pack. As he works to light a torch, he says, "I don't think it's a good idea to feed the mass. This gives me a bad feeling."
Galnikatix |
She does not like what the strange mossy thing is say and steps away, while trying to figure how to fight such a strange creature, noting her gear and abilities does not seem to be effective against a shape altering ability of the creature.
DireMerc |
The creature sensing your fear and that you intent to not feed it unleashed a mental scream in your heads.
Star-Shriek (Ex)
Once per day as a full-round action, a cerebric fungus can unleash a shrill scream of madness. All creatures (except other cerebric fungi) within 30 feet must make a DC 15 Will save or be dazed for 1d4 rounds. This is a sonic, mind-affecting effect.
init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Roll init and if you make the save and can act then post your actions.
If you fail the save you can take no action but cluth your poor head for 1d4 rounds.
Kurgu |
Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Will: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
1d4 ⇒ 1
Kurgu's muscles tense, ready to begin battle - and then are shocked into twitching. He drops his hammer, slumping to his knees and seizing his head in both hands.
"YAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHH!!!!", he roars in agony.
Kul'Theraka |
initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Will: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
"Aaagghhh, you evil thing. That does it!" Kul'Theraka roars as he rushes across the room and attacks the cerebric fungus with his sword to start. His hope is to neutralize it and then burn it with the torch he lit.
Great Sword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 252d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
Falvastar Kraigsmith |
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Init: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Falv resists the alien shriek and takes out his axe and plunges it into the fungus
attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Kul, a 19 is a critical hit on a greatsword.
Kul'Theraka |
I know, but I assumed it was an ooze type and therefore immune to critical hits.
critical just in case: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 202d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
DireMerc |
No it's actually a plant and is vulnerable to crits
A very solid hit nearly killed it right there.
The creature sends out waves of disturbing images that are a collection of scenes from your minds in an attempt to distract you (will save dc 14 or you get -4 on all attack rolls. this affects anyone looking at him and is a free action)
It also grows tendrils and attacks Kul and then tries to bite with with a mouth that was hidden until it revealed itself.
attack tendril: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 131d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
attack tendril: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
attack bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
your go again.
Falvastar Kraigsmith |
will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Disturbing images flood into Falv's head, flashing in front of his eyes.
attack: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 1 - 4 = 6
damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
He flails around with his axe, but the images are too much and he swings way wide.
Galnikatix |
Round 2
Initiative: 16
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
She shakes her head trying to get rid of the images, as she takes a swing with her scythe at the creature.
Scythe: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 4 = 13
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
Mira Oralia |
That scream was unexpected, but did not distract her. At first, she had thought it was a call for help, and spent a few seconds looking over her shoulder, but by then, Kul and the Strix had closed with it. It did not look to have much chance by the way that they were attacking, so she held back from joining in with the wide arcs that their weapons were travelling.
________________________________
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
They seem to have the situation well in hand, Mira will hold an attack for any other hostile entity that may join in.
Galnikatix |
Round 3
Initiative: 16
if needed
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
She shakes her head trying to get rid of the images, as she takes a swing with her scythe at the creature.
Scythe: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Falvastar Kraigsmith |
Almost getting downed by the creatures attack, Falv unleashes a burst of holy energy.
Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 4 It brought me to 0, so using my action to Channel. The creature also gets the heals as i don't have selective channel
Kul'Theraka |
Kul'Theraka feels the wash of healing energy roll over him. He wakes and his adrenaline gives him nearly instant clarity. He grabs at the hilt of his sword and struggles to his feet. As quick as possible he attempts to destroy the beast.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 152d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
Kul'Theraka |
"My head is killing me." Kul'Theraka said wiping blood from his nose. "I hope we don't run into any more of those. My thanks for the healing during the fight. Any more where that came from?"
Falvastar Kraigsmith |
"I've got one more burst of healing in me for today. Though I still have a couple of spells to doll out today" Falv concentrates for a second, as another blast of healing energy washes over the group.
Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Galnikatix |
She shakes her head for a while even after the mind affecting was slain.
She leans on her scythe, looking around the room, You so right. Definitely don't want to meet one of those creatures again. One is bed enough.
DireMerc |
Metal tables and several metal chairs fill the bulk of this room.
Metal cabinets line the walls.
To the north in the middle of the wall there is a machine with glowing panels on it's surface.
The room here is unusually hot.
The cabinets are mostly empty containing plates and some eating utensils and glasses. In one you find 120 tubes filled with different colored goos.
Kul'Theraka |
"Okay, you're right. Why proceed further to find the old man. It is much better to push and whack buttons, of which we have no idea what they will do or release. I'll just wait for the next brain leech to be released and then start whacking. Please let me know when you are done." Kul'Theraka said sarcastically, sword in hand.
Kurgu |
Kurgu withdraws his hammer from the panel.
"Restraint may get us killed as quickly in this gods-damned place. But I will use a little for now."
