I'm back guys. Sorry for the time away. I thought I'd be able to check in on my phone, but the small town I went to in Ohio did not have AT&T reception!
I'm reading up on what transpired while I am gone. I agree with the assertion that Hamzah should play whatever he wants. We should be able to destroy anything before we really need to worry about in-combat healing.
I'll hopefully be caught up and posting by this afternoon.

Leyli Wildspeaker |

Be a dual wielding dervish style fighter. Like the one from Game of Thrones ... dammit I forget his name at the moment.
Are you referring to Arya's teacher?

Hamzah Hamas Al Dajannah |

I don't like playing without a dedicated healer. It slows things down and causes extra expenses. A bad round can leave a whole bunch of people laid out.
And we have enough physical damage dealers as it is. Paladin, Ranger, Leyli and her cat, Raj and his summoned creatures, and Grim. Gunk I guess is ranged half-way physical damage.
Hamzah will get better as we level.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Gunk, the mace isn't mine I am just using it for a backup. The mace can get sold when we have a chance to sell magical items

Leyli Wildspeaker |

I changed my druid for a more caster oriented one, feel free to critique or give suggestions.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

When this combat is over you will be level 3. I am going to skip some pointless combats that are there simply for xp. I dont see the fun in running combat so you can kill 20 more gnolls we will just roleplay that out.
I hope everyone is cool with that. Combat takes so long I say we skip the boring ones. Its the only way to finish this in a reasonable amount of time im thinking.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hamzah do you plan on staying as a heal focused cleric? If so I'll take power attack at 3, if you wanna swap characters I'll take extra LOH. Its not a big deal to me I'm fine going either route.
HP @ 3: 1d10 ⇒ 2
Dave save me

Hajar nar Jundi |

Went ahead and took power attack. Also, Hajar studied the last few days/weeks with Gunk and Dashki to learn the Gnollish tongue. He also learned how to calm beasts from his friend Naziri. (Put ranks in Linguistics and Handle Animal)

Hajar nar Jundi |

Yeah man, I had a blast rping with you. I wish you just would have rerolled instead of leaving.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Is everyone still ok with posting 5x a day? Seems like we have slowed down a bunch.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

I have noticed that as well. Is anyone loosing interest? I am going to pick up the pace from this point on and avoid combats that are just there for xp gain like I said before.
Hopefully its just back to school time and people are getting more busy?
I also need to address this issue of challenging combat. If you are looking for stressful combat situations where players are getting killed I am probably not the GM for you. I am more about having fun telling the story. Rolls are always going to go in your favor and I'm always going to fudge things in the players favor. You are the hero's after all. I have always thought of players dying as a bad thing so that's something I avoid. My goal is usually to get a few good hits in maybe put someone in negatives but ultimately the PC's win.
Now that being said if I had rolled a 20 instead of a 1 on that last attack against Hajar he could have easily been close to death or dead after a X3 crit.
You guys have been using superb tactics since you started raiding the village. I specifically set up the fights before the town raids to just test the bounds.
If it Leyli had not used entangle that last combat would have gone MUCH different. I thought it was fun to see you guys decimate your opponents simply because of the trap you set up. If you had stood in the road and straight out attacked I can guarantee some downed characters.
Like I said though if you are wanting super tough combat I may not be the GM for you.
Also please remember this may as well be my first campaign. I have ran a few sessions here and there but they never amounted to much. So I will get better at the combat and my descriptions of non combat things, you just gotta hang in there and keep helping me get better.

Leyli Wildspeaker |

Nice meeting you Hamzah.
I think the majority still posts around 5x a day, even if they don't GM gives them enough time to post if their decision is really needed and if they don't GM npcs them.
For me you're doing good, especially with the addition of round summaries.

Hajar nar Jundi |

I agree with you 100% Dave. The use of the ambush tactics made that combat much easier. We took 1 hit...1. It's because of our choice to ambush and Leyli and Raj's use of magic. I like that kinda thing. I like challenging combat but within reason. I like the way we did that last combat. Round Recaps and the map made combat much more enjoyable than the earlier 2 with the gnolls.

Hajar nar Jundi |

It's mine. Well its a tie between this one and the Crypt one.

Al-Akim Naziri |

Agreed. This is going well in my opinion Dave. If you don't know something you make a decision and then ask if everyone would be okay with that moving forward. I like this, as it keeps things moving but still allows for player input.
I'm enjoying this a lot, and I will be trying to post more frequently as well. As I was out of town, that really hurt my posting ability. But I'm back and caught up at work. (however weekends are tough for me, and this one is pretty busy).

Leyli Wildspeaker |

To be fair I don't think Hamzah leaving is because of the GM. I feel that he lost interest as he was playing a class he is not having fun with. He was given the option to switch but he doesn't want to due to lack of healing (I'm really against in combat healing lol). I'll be bored too if I'm playing something I don't like.

Al-Akim Naziri |

agreed. I didn't intend my post to imply that Hamzah left due to the GM. I was just mentioning that I like his GM style.
I'm disappointed that Hamzah left, as I like others here, enjoyed his RP.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Seems there is a feat that does something similar to what I did earlier that Hamzah disagreed with
Greater Mercy
Your mercy has incredible recuperative properties.
Prerequisites: Cha 13, lay on hands class feature, mercy class feature.
Benefit: When you use your lay on hands ability and the target of that ability does not have any conditions your mercies can remove, it instead heals an additional +1d6 points of damage
Should I take this instead of Power Attack?

Hajar nar Jundi |

I don't know that Humans are behind the curve in power....they seem to be a favored race over all races, gnomes however.....

???????????
Ok, so an update on me: The floors are about 80% installed,, but a few days ago I went and got a vaccine for Yellow Fever. Guess what I'm sick in bed with right now... fortunately it should be a weakened version, but it doesn't seem to be weakening the symptoms much. Anyway, floors and fever, that's why I didn't really post in the combat, but the spell I used had a duration of concentration so that worked out fairly well.
While I haven't read the last 30 or so GP posts, I need to point something out for future reference:
Protection from _____ and summons: Dave correct me if I'm wrong, but with the way the protection spell is worded the spell protects from ALL summoned creatures, regardless of alignment. Also, the Schir had SR that would have to be overcome, though entangle bypasses SR.
The post rate is fine by me, and I should be able to take a more active part if not by tomorrow then next week, assuming I'm not asleep in bed due to the fever (really hoping its a one day thing, but the vaccination warnings said up to a week if this happens).
Sorry to see you go Hamzah, I hope you have the chance to play something more to your liking.
So, We're level 3! I get to learn two 2nd level spells, and one of them will be Summon Monster 2. I'm a little torn on the second one: Glitterdust? Acid Arrow? Summon Swarm? Daze Monster? Touch of Idiocy? There's a whole host of fun 2nd level spells, far more than I listed here. I can't do necromancy or transmutation, and I'm partial to conjuration. Suggestions?

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Ok rules guys...
How does the arcane strike feat work? Specifically if you were a bard.
You draw upon your arcane power to enhance your weapons with magical energy.
Prerequisite: Ability to cast arcane spells.
Benefit: As a swift action, you can imbue your weapons with a fraction of your power. For 1 round, your weapons deal +1 damage and are treated as magic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. For every five caster levels you possess, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +5 at 20th level.
Can you just do that every round? Could you do that and keep a bard song going?

![]() |

Yes, both could be maintained, since sin tainting the song is a free action and arcane strike is a swift action (every turn). You get unlimited free actions and one swift action every round. What's annoying though, is when you want to use arcane armor training and arcane strike in the same round, because those are both swift actions and you only get one. That rarely happens though, and shouldn't happen period for a bard.

Leyli Wildspeaker |

I'm not saying you're wrong but why take transmutation as an opposed school?
Suggestions besides summon monster, color spray, create pit, or any spell that has no save. With my wizard, I like to prepare spells that targets all saves then the rest summons.

Hajar nar Jundi |

If indeed Grim doesn't come back then Hajar will almost definitely retrain power attack into Greater Mercy. Also, Gunk would need to start putting points into roguish skills. Alchy's get disable device yes?
To Raj even with Hamzah and Grim out were still a solid party. We've got you and Gunk on the arcane side, Leyli on the divine side and Naziri and I for melee combat. Anything that helps us deal with flyers might be nice since I think Naziri is going to be a melee focused ranger.

GM: Dave the Dwarf |

Naziri told me he is going to be half and half. The feats he get from leveling will be used on melee and the feats he gets from ranger are for his bow.
Also he has stealth so he can scout for you. I will not screw you for loosing party members. If need be other characters will pick up skills they should not have. I dont think it will come to that though.

Leyli Wildspeaker |

We can always ask at the recruitment thread if you guys feel we need an extra player to add some flavor.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hey dave I'm cool playing this combat the old way or if you want I can throw together a quick battlemap.

Gunk |

So we play tested DnD Next last night. This is our 3rd or 4th play test and we usually do that when our regular DM is out of town.
Our temporary DM says to us "Ok, this module is in no way a test of your ability or skill as a player ..." and he leaves that off with a malicious glint in his eye.
So anyways, I chose the pre-generated human monk and we set out to tackle the "Mines of Madness". Holy Moly!!!!! I died BEFORE THE FIRST INITIATIVE ROLL!! A purple worm bursts up from below the ground and eats me alive. POW! Dead. 5 seconds into the adventure.
All in all we had 5 player deaths and were not quite done yet. Apparently there's a dragon. Oh goodie!
