He is a Nobel supposedly involved in a smuggling organization. You are introduced to two such organizations immediately in this. I expected some attempt to look into something. I have it set up so that you can do this almost any way imaginable-social skills, combat, stealth, tech, but you have to give me something.

Sister Ciaran |

This is the first I've heard of a smuggling organization. Maybe it's just me but there seems to be quite the jump in logic between "unexplained murders involving xeno items" and suspected involvement with a smuggling organization (given what the inquisitor told us "Fellow nobles have related these were preceded with bouts of erratic and troublesome behavior, and worry that a hive noble named Lans Guljian has exhibited many of the same behaviours").
At this point I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be doing. The noble's our only lead, but we've been unable to speak to him or any other. We also can't get access to any crime scenes or reports (on account of being legally dead with no official documents on behalf of the big I), which also seems like an obvious first step. Right now things are only starting to make sense to me in retrospect now that you've said what you're looking for.
I suppose I'll have to admit that I'm just not as clever as Dark Heresy assumes me to be. If the Sworn Collectors and Razor Angels were supposed to be an obvious hint it was lost on me. I'm sorry, I'll try to do better.

I'm with Ciaran in the fact that I assumed the Sworn Collectors and Razor Angels were designed to give us a first glance at the basics of the combat and society [with the oath cogs] but were rather unimportant as far as our mission was concerned.
I've been operating under the assumption that the current clue was "A minor noble..." and had nothing to do with the xeno items or erratic behaviour yet. So the assumption would be we needed to get the the upper hives in order to even hear workd of mouth about "That crazy Lans" or something...

Hive Desoleum holds many heresies and horrors, and you are gathered here for but one of them. There are increasing reports of horrible deaths within the hive's upper levels, with odd items of a possible xenos or archaeotech nature found with each corpse. Fellow nobles have related these were preceded with bouts of erratic and troublesome behavior, and worry that a hive noble named Lans Guljian has exhibited many of the same behaviours.
You are tasked with the Emperor's Work: to investigate the deaths and possible connections to any illicit artefacts, determine if they are potential dangers of a wider nature, and terminate their distribution. Recover and contain any items uncovered, lest they corrupt others.
Carry the Emperor's Light with you throughout the hive, for there is little proper illumination to be found in this festering, ancient edifice. Desoleum teeters on the blade's edge of damnation, and one further heresy could topple the entire hive into the abyss.
Now scream a little for me and make it sound convincing, I will remove your binders and open the secret tunnel that leads to dumping pit. I have secured your items there. Collect them and make haste.
From recruitment page. I highlighted pertinent information. I hope that helps. Don't get me wrong you are welcome to do as you are, some have sent me Private messages about what they are supposed to do, so I am merely trying to clarify

Now that's a leap in logic. I do not recall anyone attempting to access any crime scenes or reports. That could be a good start.
*Edit, I hope I am not sounding like a know it all or anything like that. Personally I think you are all doing good as far as roleplaying, I hope I can get you back on track.

A question was asked about degrees of success. Here is how the basic rolling works. If I give you a bonus or negative you apply those to your initial skill. For example if you have 30 intelligence and your skill is +10 you would have a starting value of 40%. If I assign the task as easy giving you +30 now you have 70%. Lets roll the dice and find out what happens. 70% chance: 1d100 ⇒ 54 I made it ! Now I compare the numbers. 7-5 is 2. I have 2 degrees of success! If you only barely make it, like lets say I rolled a 70 on the nose, that is still one degree of success.
Degrees of success or failure come into play in many ways. In combat they can grant additional hits with automatic weapons. In non-combat situations they can grant additional information. Talents also give many nice bonuses for degrees of success.
Due to this format you might make a check without knowing what the bonus or negative to the roll is. In those instances I will let you know how much of a degree of success or failure you made.

So I'm thinking we might just try and nab that Insuratti.
I'm pretty sure we are out of clues we can gather just by hanging around and Lans doesn't seem to be the type to wear a nametag.
We grab the Insuratti, ask him some questions, and cut a deal (if possible). All we need is his Oath Cog and it's proof of death. He gets to walk away free and alive, we get our answers and we either split the Thrones or keep them depending on the nature of the deal I suppose.
GM - How big a deal are Oath Cogs? As in, would it even be possible someone would give theirs up in order to get a bounty off of their head - or are they literally life or death.

So, I've just started a new job this week and though I figured I'd find a way to balance it with free time, I simply haven't. I work 10 hour shifts and run a commute that's over an hour each way. Basically I have no time for anything during my weekdays for the next 3-6 months.
Of course, that means posting to campaigns is just extra I can't manage right now when I hardly have time to make dinner before I'm back to getting ready for bed. So rather than lag the entire campaign with my dead weight, I'll just dip out now before it gets worse.
I'm really sorry about this, I certainly hadn't anticipated a 10 hour day job when I started picking up campaigns on the forums, but I guess that's just the way my particular cookie crumbled this new year.

That is ok it is known to happen. I appreciate the time you spent in the game that you did.

Hi all, did I scare everyone away by joining the game? Volc, in case it was unclear I approached the table and addressed you.
My posting requirements for this game were low also. If he does not post tonight though I will guestimate some questions he planed on asking you and we can go from there.
