Ozzy, how do you plan to net Abaos’ whole square without netting the bloke himself? If he has time and warning to dodge, so do the Kytons.

I'll throw the blanket over his head as well if necessary, then try to get him out without letting the kytons out later.

Edit: Though I WILL point out that Abaos is in the current initiative block, for which he has not yet posted his action. The same is not true for the kytons. I'll also note that dropping prone is a free action on one's turn.

Well, we need to be a bit more discerning than that, to make sure that the invisible wizards are in the area of effect as well, but I'm not entirely opposed to that plan. It would mean, however, that we definitely want to keep our NPC forces back.

Guthruc swallows the chunk he tore out of viper and drops his snack of the ground. What follows is the stuff of nightmares.

Guthruc enters rage, but his battle cry only barely drowns out his screams of pain. Vertebrae split and grow as his torso and neck double in length. His tailbone retraces countless generations of imperfect evolution, sprouting a new appendage. His skin flays and folds under itself, hardening as it does, mimicking the feeling of a thousand ingrown nails across every corner of his flesh. His pupils narrow to mere slits as his nose sinks into his face and does the same. His tusks are joined by newfound fangs as his jaw dislocates from his skull mid-transformation. The tail grows to become flush with both the front and back of Guthruc's torso, not quite accommodating his legs. As the transformation completes, his war cry has fused with a serpent's distinct hiss, neither one nor the other. The result: a horrid fusion between orc and viper that would cause even those of the strongest resolve struggle to hold in their lunch.

The monster breathes in as its forked tongue flicks out of his mouth, tasting the air for the scent of the mage.

As soon as the disembodied voice speaks, coming from inside the cage, Abaos does as he told Nugrah he would, and what he told everyone else he wouldn't- he rushes over, and opens the door.

And then the eyes appear next to him, and he has no time to worry about the possible evil necromancer.

A slash, and another slash, duck, move, skip, left, over, duck! The eyes hack at the spry man, and it's only luck that he's not petrified the moment he sees them. Really, he's just to busy dodging.

Suddenly, he's filled with an immense pain in his calf as his twist isn't quite out of reach. It's not a deep cut, but it dangerous, unknownst to him; it's severed an artery and is beginning to bleed.

Round 3:

With the fog cleared Jen takes in the scene of devastation in horror: Abaos wounded and surrounded by...

Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

A swarm of augur kytons in their banded, spiked armor, though, fortunately, Ozzy seems to have contained the threat...

Okey, so I beat the DC by 7, so that means one question? I don't know, what do you guys want me to ask?

Her eyes search around to where the tree man is entrapped in a sticky mass of webs and the dragonling is murdering an elemental, and then, in a split moment, she sprints past the two and comes to a panting halt next to Ozzy. Move Action

"What son of a bugbear are we fighting?" she yells, her voice suddenly terse and completely unlike her usual meandering drawl.

I am presuming either Abaos or Ozzy would say something about the invisible wizard in Nugrah's cell; if you guys don't want me taking liberties with your characters I'll act it out, though.

Jen cracks her knuckles and, her mind filling with arcane words, she recalls the final sentence to the almost-but-not-quite complete spell she'd in reality cast the majority of that morning.

She murmurs those last words under her breath and, throwing her hands out, sends a wave of black, glistening grease spilling across the floor so that it completely blocks the entrance to Nugrah's cell.

Standard action, pretty self-explanatory grease spell.

Sadly, Jen has no lantern oil. I forsook that because she had darkvision and I thought "oh, no lanterns needed." I was wrong, apparently -_-. However, she does have caltrops, rope, holy water, antitoxin, and some feather tokens (tree). Although, technically, I wrote all those things except the feather tokens as being with her donkey on her character sheet, so I don't know if I can retcon that or not, as her circumstances of introduction resulted in a separation from her loyal equine friend. GM?

Character sheet

We're in a confined space underneath most of the enemy. Depending on GM interpretation, we could cause some MAJOR havok with a tree feather token. We could also, very likely, collapse the ceiling in on ourselves. Let's wait until we have an exit plan on that one. Even then, we should probably have an eidolon set it off in case the ensuing collapse proves impossible to escape.

Character sheet

Actually, using Bond Senses, I could probably coordinate with Mr. Winky to make sure we set off the feather token directly under the stag lord...

Edit: Or just send Mr. Winky down with it when we come up, after he has finished his part of the plan.

No need to apologize, it isn't actually expected for people to post on weekends. Sometimes we do anyway, but it's fine if someone can't.

I went ahead and removed the web effect from the map, at this point the fire's burned a clear path through it and will burn much if not the rest of it away next round, so as long as no one goes out of their way to tangle themselves up in what remains the spell's done it's damage.

Guthruc wrote:

A whole new sense's worth of sensory input floods through Guthruc's synapses. He smells the earthen walls, the bugs in and on them. Somewhere nearby, there are rats. He smells Mr. Blinky. Mr. Blinky smells . . . dark. There's no other way to describe it, he smells like darkness. He smells cold the same way that capascin smells warm, and the overall impression is that he smells dark.

Guthruc smells Iorskan, who smells warm. Not like capascin smells warm, he smells warm like fire smells warm. Guthruc smells Bright Awn, who smells sort of like a human, but older, and smells sort of like a plant.

And Guthruc smells two things that he can't immediately place. Tasting the air, he tastes two things that aren't visible. They taste like . . . sulfer. They taste like sulfer smells. Not human at all. One of them is coming from nearby, but up. I know that scent says you don't know where they are exactly, but general direction seems like the sort of thing you'd be able to smell. The other sulferous smelling thing is further away, in the same direction as Mr. Blinky.

Meanwhile As soon as the disembodied voice speaks, coming from inside the cage, Abaos does as he told Nugrah he would, and what he told everyone else he wouldn't- he rushes over, and opens the door.

Bleed effects don't stack.

Ozzy throws her blanket, ensnaring the kytons. Which are now entangled and effectively blinded.

Abaos finds his feet next to the possible evil necromancer.

The old druid has tried to escape this cell countless times before, and he shares what he knows about Sneeg and his familiar as quickly as he can. His raspy voice grates.

"There's an alarm, it's silent, he can hear it, every time you leave the cell. Through the front, through the walls, the floor, ceiling, doesn't matter. Triggers the alarm. Sneeg can teleport, has a spell for it. Casts it in a heartbeat; can't pin him down. He has a familiar, an imp or a quasit. Don't know. It's around here, somewhere, invisible. Uses scrolls and wands. Druid spells, too, Sneeg made me help him make them."

Jen, where exactly are you placing that grease spell? Abaos and Nugruh are inside the cell, are you trapping them in there?

Female Tiefling Arcanist/4 -> Woah! Fancy stat numbers!

Oh... No, in that case it'll be in the 10sq ft behind them, so that it completely blocks the way out of anyone either standing in those squares or behind them.

Also, I should've taken glitterdust. Or web. :/

Character sheet

Question: Does the grease just appear there, or can she kinda squirt it at the specified location? If it's the latter, that grease could actually (potentially) reveal an invisible creature...

For that matter, we should all (not including eidolons) be carrying waterskins. Open those up and squeeze them and you've got makeshift squirt guns that you can spray around until they hit something.

We should also ask the GM how dirty the ground is... We might just be able to scoop up some dust and scatter it around...

Character sheet

Oh, also, if the puddle of grease has any depth at all, you should be able to see indentations in it from an invisible person standing/falling in it. That won't help with the familiar, which is probably flying, and which we should probably take out first if possible (since it will have fewer hitpoints, and any spells it doesn't get a chance to cast before it dies will be magic items that we can retrieve from its corpse.

Btw, if you are invisible, and you have a scroll in your gear that turns invisible with you, you shouldn't be able to use the scroll without first becoming visible, because you wouldn't be able to see the scroll.

Round Four, I believe.

Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Jen, I didn't see your save DC for first level spells written down anywhere, I'm assuming it's 16 (10+SL+INT) but correct me if I'm wrong. In the future, could you type out the DC of the spells you're casting in the post you cast them? Makes things a bit easier on my end.

Inside Nugruh's cell a layer of slippery grease appears, and suddenly splashes about as an invisible someone attempts to keep their footing. The indent of their booted feat are clearly visible in the inky lubricant.

"There you are." Nugruh's decrepit face breaks into a wide smile. He raises his hand and speaks a two words of power. Druidic "Faerie Fire."

A burst of sickly yellow-brown light fills the cell, lining the floor, walls, and invisible wizard with decay-colored fire that doesn't burn. Falgrim Sneeg is now visible.

I'd describe Sneeg's facial expression at this, but unfortunately it cannot be seen. He's still invisible, he's just also on fire.

For his part, Nugruh looks like someone whose been locked in a cage for the past year of his life and finally got the chance to retaliate on his jailer. He's looking pretty happy. Scarily happy, even.

The yellowish flames that mark Sneeg's location tucks it's shoulder and tries to bowl past Abaos leaving himself open to the ifrit's starknife. Nugruh's unnarmed, can't make an AoO.

AoO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Sneeg swears as the ifrit breaks his skin. Sneeg has taken 6 damage.

Why Falgrim Sneeg thought he'd be better off entirely surrounded than mostly surrounded is momentarily perplexing; but than the wizard rattles off one of his rapid-speed summoning spells and things become a little more clear.

A dark cloud appears behind Ozzy and Jen, swiftly consolidating into a dark mass.

Twelve feet from snout to tail, weighing in at at least six thousand pounds, is a monster. Shaped roughly like a lion, the monster has a mane of spines, rather than fur, spines that also cover it's forelegs, it's back, and it's porcupineoid tail. It opens it's mouth, and unleashes a most nettlesome howl. Whatever small body hairs your character has stand on end, as the grating noise worms it's way into your brain.

The howler prowls these Abyssal realms, serving the role of a hungry predator like a lion or tiger, save for the fact that the typical howler is much more intelligent than a big cat. It's quills break off easily and are incapacitatingly painful once embedded. In addition, it's howl echoes in the mind long after the best has been slain or driven away, slowly driving sane folk mad. You can ask me a question about it's defenses, it's offenses, it's abilities, any weaknesses it may have, et cetera, for every five by which you beat the DC.

At that moment, small hands made out of dirt come through the earthen walls and lash out at Iorskan.

Slam: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 = 17 damage: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6

The high pitched voice has stopped chanting, and is being quiet.

Happs Bydon dropps his bow and draws his longsword.

Falgrim drops into a martial stance, taking most of Bydon's momentum out of his swing by rapping the ranger's wrist with his staff.

Bydon's already lining up another strike. "Gonna kill you," he tells the wizard, matter of fact.

The butcher of badger's glade is still naseuous, and moving would provoke an attack of opportunity, so she stays still and hopes the monster doesn't notice her. Patton drops his bow, and, shouting something drowned out by the monster's incessent howling, draws his glaive to attack with.

Seeing the monster appear before him, Iorskan roared at it, matching it bellow for bellow. Finally! Something he could eat! HIs genius deserting him, Iorskan leapt at the creature. His claws were planted deep into it's side to hold it still, and then his maw (already glowing with flames) bit down on it's neck. With a growl he savaged the beast, shaking his head back and forth to break it's neck.

It was just unfortunate that Iorskan didn't account for the creature's quills...luckily, he was a dragon! He was designed to eat anything that he saw. His breath was (supposed to) melt steel! What good were quills against draconic might?! Well, or so he hoped.

Yeah, for grease that would be the DC; however, for spells like Color Spray (which is prepared right now), Jen has a spell penetration feat for +2. Also, with Potent Magic (exploit), she can increase the DC by 2 if she expends a reservoir point. Just something to keep in mind.

To save on time I'm going to write out an if/then.

If Howler is dead,

Jen closes her eyes and draws from her arcane energies to fuel a feverish relearning of one of her favored spells- a cloud of golden particles that clings and blinds. Flipping open a tatty leather-covered book, she practices the same strategies she used for Literature back at the Academy by letting her eyes skim over the words and form a painting of the spell in her mind.

(Full round action: expend 1 arcane reservoir point, so she now has 5-1=4 points. She swaps out mirror image for glitterdust. NOTE: I'm not sure from the PRD whether it replaces ONE casting of mirror image- i.e. can now cast glitterdust once and mirror image twice- or ALL of them, so that she can no longer cast mirror image today without expending another reservoir point.)

Else,

Jen lets the heavy hitters attack the Howler
(Knowledge, Planes: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19) and focuses on the outlined Falgrim Sneeg. She initiates a complex series of motions, the cadence of her voice rising in intensity until she practically shouts the final word and flicks her wrist towards the injured and grease-splattered wizard.

What results is a rainbow that races out at 3 * 10^8 m/s until it flies in Sneeg's face and blasts him with a truly seizure-worthy display of distorted color.

Colorspray, will save DC= 18 (10 + SL 1 + INT 5 + 2 from potent magic), expends one reservoir point (5-1=4 points now) to increase DC. Spell has a +2 against spell resistance.

Jen also beat the DC of the Knowledge, Planes check by 5, so she gets a question about it, so, what are the creature's weaknesses?

In case this was confusing at all, the summary is that if the Howler is dead, she'll quick study to get glitterdust. If it isn't dead, she will colorspray on Sneeg.

On a side note, how is Sneeg still functioning normally? Jen has 19 hp and she rolled high on a few of those level-up-hit-die :/

Sneeg has an Imp or Quasit as an improved familiar, which means that he's at least level 7. This also means he has (at least) 7 hit dice, which means that color spray will, at most, stun him for one round.

Jen Undrell wrote:

The howler is least resistant to mind effecting spells, and, being large and not particularly agile it is easily hit with touch attacks. Not that it matters anymore (unless you meet another one).

Iorskan and Mr. Blinky take the howler down with extreme prejudice. Second damage roll for the spines applies. It's dead, Jim. Like the other summoned creatures, the body evaporates into thin air. It's cries, however, continue to ring in some of your skulls.

Guthruc's dagger falls impotently back to the ground.

I forgot to give the lower level NPCs turns, (again) (not that there’s a ton they could do) but the kobolds rogues are also pretty concerned about Cuddlytoy Iorskan, so they’re going to ready actions to attack the elemental when next it becomes visible (they’ll also move closer to Iorskan and draw their swords if they don’t already have them out.

Using an immediate action on your turn is the same as using a swift action and counts as your swift action for that turn. You cannot use another immediate action or a swift action until after your next turn if you have used an immediate action when it is not currently your turn (effectively, using an immediate action before your turn is equivalent to using your swift action for the coming turn). You also cannot use an immediate action if you are flat-footed.

They can get in the room with the blind things and start throwing dirt around. Dharak can also use Martial Flexibility to get Blind Fight, then start trying to grapple the invisible creatures.

Kobold commandos, on me! Well, Iorskan will be more careful about setting everything on fire now, at least.

Not cognisant of the creature in the wall, and unable to successfully impact the battle with Sneeg, Awn decides to wait where he is. Sorely tempted to ascend the stairs to ascertain the situation above, the woodborn wisely stays put lest he disturb or alert even more foes...

I believe NPCs are up, right?

Round Five

The Howler shrieks one last time as the dragon and eidolon tear it to pieces, preempting it's attack.

"Damnit," Sneeg swears. He notices Iorskan, alight and advancing over the rapidly evaporating demon's remains. "You. You're the one who ate Tartuk! That wasn't a small setback, you inconsiderate lukewarm wyrmling! That kobold had fourth circle spells!"

The wizard seems quite upset about something.

The earth elemental strikes again!

to hit Iorskan: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

It wasn't, however, expecting to be met with such pointy resistance! The kobolds stab at it, shouting battle cries! ("Die, monster!" and "I could really go for a sandwich with bacon and lettuce!", respectively.)

to hit flatfooted: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) - 1 + (3) = 5
to hit flatfooted: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) - 1 + (6) = 7

to confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Doesn't confirm. What's amusing, is that the minimum one point of nonlethal damage would have rendered the summoned elemental unconscious . . .

Making strange elemental noises (none of you speak Terran) it glides back into the wall.

The kobolds ready actions to attack if it shows up again.

Meanwhile Falgrim Sneeg shouts something in rapid-fire Ignan or Terran?: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Terran, figuring it's a language his assailants are unlikely to know.

A curtain of utter darkness shrouds the staircase leading out of the basement. Darkvision cannot see through this effect.

Sneeg attempts to cast a spell while defending himself from Abaos and Happs Bydon. Concentration: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17 Oof. I'll say that he's been driven to distraction by the tragedy that befell poor Tartuk.

He misses a syllable in his incantation, too intent on parrying Abaos' and Bydon's attacks.

"Dammit!"

Sneeg slams his staff against the ground, the muted thud of wood striking packed dirt not echoing throughout the room.

Quite suddenly, the sickly brownish flames that marked his location are no more.

Nugruh begins chanting something in Druidic. spellcraft DC 14 says it's a summon nature's ally four

Bydon swings at the space Sneeg occupied moments prior, though he doesn't see anything there.

Swish!: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9 Swash!: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10 miss chance: 1d2 ⇒ 1

He doesn't hit anything.

Dharak doublemoves over beside Right On. "What's the plan?" he asks.

The bandits who can come out of the tunnel, packing the cell and looking about for an enemy to fight.

Guthruc:
One of the brimstone-ish smells becomes much stronger, as it flies over Guthruc's head, and then becomes fainter, and then it exits the range of his scent. The one that was closer to him, with the high pitched voice, hasn't moved.

Party's up. Note what round you're acting on.

orc/common

With his intelligence reduced to nearly half of normal, guthruc fails to recall parts of common, falling back on his native tongue. He mispronounces what common he does remember. His partial serpentine form is quite noticeable in his voice.

Guthruc's horrid form tastes the air again, allowing the scent's sensation to wash over him. He can taste blood. The blood of falrim sneeg still on the dirt, the blood of his allies. He can confirm that abaos would actually taste quite deliscious! This scent almost distracts him from the task at hand: Pinpointing where the remaining scent is coming from.
Guthruc does an awkward half slither, half step toward the creature he senses. Glaring down at it's invisible form so as to show that it cannot hide from him.

Wow! it just occurred to me that Abaos speaks Ignan. Which, is ok, I guess, because it's supposed to be one of those languages he knew, then forgot- still, seems like a missed opportunity. Someone hit me next time a thing speaks Ignan.

Abaos is pretty intent on one thing, and that one thing is wielding a spinning staff and currently glowing with a vague outline against an invisible form. And then the outline disappears.

"We had him surrounded! Keep going!" Abaos yells, trying to keep the faith.

Then Bydon hits nothing but air, and Abaos just knows the wizard has to be near him.

Melee Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 81d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
MoC, Melee Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 221d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Miss Chance: 1d10 ⇒ 51d10 ⇒ 6

Fortune's Favor Ability:
Fortune’s Favor (Ex): A luckbringer always seems to gain the advantages of concealment and other random protections, while her opponents never do. When miss chances are rolled her and her opponent must use two d10s, and the luckbringer chooses which of the two die rolls are the ‘tens’ digit after the result is known. For example, she activates her entropy shield ability, and her opponent shots an arrow at her, her opponent rolls a 7 and a 1. The luckbringer chooses the 1 to be the ‘tens’ digit, resulting in a 17, failing the 20% miss chance, causing the arrow to miss her. However, if the luckbringer were fighting an invisible opponent and knew what square he was in she could roll a 7 and a 1 choosing the 7 to be the ‘tens’ digit, successfully overcoming the miss chance.

I didn't update the map, fixing that now.

Abaos's knife fails to connect with anything!

Guthruc uses a move action to pinpoint the scent of the flying brimstone-smelling creature. It's right over his head, hovering near the fifteen foot tall ceiling. You've a standard action remaining.

The kytons remember to take their turns.

escape artist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

escape artist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

escape artist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

escape artist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Two of them are no longer pinned, though still grappled? Not one hundred percent on the rules involved here.

DM_Schollar, it seems as I was confused on the actions available to me, and you were confused on what actions I did. I thought that the flying creature was already long gone by my turn in initiative...I'm going to post my retcon in a few hours

Both of the brimstone smelling things are flying, the one that was in the general direction of Mr. Blinky is the one that flew past you. The one that started off closest you (also the one that’s been making noises and using magic devices) hasn’t moved from where it’s hovering over your head since the battle started.

Apologies for unclear narration!

Female Tiefling Arcanist/4 -> Woah! Fancy stat numbers!

Did Sneeg stand still that whole time that he was outlined?

No, he was in the cell when first outlined by faerie fire. He then pushed his way out of the cell to get line of sight/effect for his summoning spell. After that, he was surrounded and stabbed a bit. Deciding that there were more enjoyable times to pass the time, he tried to cast a spell, failed, and then disappeared.

So, Guthruc still has a standard action, right? I'm hoping he'll use it to try to grapple or otherwise expose the presence of that creature, so that Mr. Blinky can attack it.

Some questions!

Who is Ralmog? Where is Ralmog?

Abaos miss chance roll was 65 then? But if that was enough to hit, maybe he missed the AC? Is that how it worked?

Is Awn aware/did he see that Sneeg disappeared? If not, he'll remain where he is, providing a second sight with a +2 bonus (thus expending a use) to Guthruc's grab, which I think he can see. If he saw Sneeg disappear, he will stab the air in an attempt to hit Sneeg-he-thinks-is-passing him.

Unless the Darkness took effect, and the spell Tartuk's-death-caused-to-fail was a different spell. In which case Awn stays still, readying a strike if Sneeg, or someone he thinks in Sneeg comes near him.

Just to be clear, I'm just trying to see through the mud of clarity I have.

Actually, f$&k it - what is happening?

;)

But seriously, am I even close to understanding what is happening?

Round 5
* 4 points of damage taken, 1DR left for the round

Iorskan hissed as the earth elemental attacked him. That hurt! Fortunately, his faithful kobolds were there to swarm it. It was good to be king. He turned just in time to see it retreat into the wall.

So many enemies were dying...and their bodies were vanishing! It wasn't fair! How was he supposed to eat them if there were no corpses? It was cheating, that was what it was. Maybe this one would be different.

Doing his best to pretend to look the other way, Iorskan waited for the elemental to come back out of the wall...

Bluff to pretend that he isn't looking: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Readied Attack:

Claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

...Iorskan couldn't help but thump his tail happily on the ground. Nobody could see through his ruse! He was far too smart to allow that. He almost felt bad for the elemental, going up against an intellect like his. But then again, it wasn't the elemental's fault that it wasn't born a dragon.

There was, however, also a human. Who was yelling at him because he ate someone. This wasn't something completely new to Iorskan. It was, he though, rude though. To expect him to remember everyone that he ate. He didn't like people who were inconsiderate like that.
