Goxomas is able to outrun the bugbear even running full out and starting with a 25 foot headstart. The monk cuts off the marauder’s retreat and Tain comes up from behind blocking him from escaping.
The Bugbear sighs shaking his head he drops his sword ” I surrender!”.
The rest of the group moves up behind Tain.
Olli flies up ” Yea you caught him! Now what?”

Goxomas will relieve the bugbear of all his worldly possessions, take a drink, and say, "Maybe someone wants to interrogate this guy?"
If someone does, Goxomas will curl up into a ball and take a catnap.

Goxomas relives the bugbear of his possessions consisting of three javelins, leather armor, and a longsword. Taking a drink the monk hands the guy over to the group for interrogation.
The bugbear eyes the little fiery leshy that steps forward as it smiles at him and politely asks for more information about the leadbuster lads. Lurok complies with Celosia’s request ” All I know is that the Leadbuster Lads hired me to wreck the flume. One of the dwarves gave me the two hellhounds to make the job easier. I don’t know where to find them, but they said they would meet up with me after I completed the job. I don’t know what their beef is with the Otari lumber company maybe they cut down the lad's favorite tree.”
Olli giggles over the idea of dwarfs upset over a tree.

Have we heard of these dwarfs? or why they would care about the Otari lumber company?

Celosial asks for details about where to meet the leadbuster lads, Lurok shugs ” I don’t know where to find them, they were going find me after the job. Look they gave me two hellhounds to do the job. I think it would be safer for me to go elsewhere for a while.” He doesn’t seem to know where to find the leadbuster lads and doesn’t seem to want to find them after failing them.
Celosia thinks she has heard of a dwarven band of bards called the Leadbuster Lads.
Goxomas knows that the powerful Kortos lumber Consortium used to have a stranglehold over lumber interests in Otari, but several small companies like Whistledown cutters have broken with Kortos. Some shady Kortos Consortium managers want their power in the Otari region back and aren’t above bending the law.
Tain has heard that Otari lumber has made the locale druid circle angry by overcutting areas.
Lurok eyes Argigoth dagger nervously knowing that Celosial isn’t happy with his lack of knowing where to find the leadbuster lads.
Olli flying down to Tain’s shoulder ” Trying to burn down the Flume is not nice. I say tie him to a log and send him down the flume.”

Tain Hekkanen |

Trying to hide a smile at the scailiwing’s useful suggestion, Tain frowns.
”The most intelligent thing to do with you Lurok, is to ensure we can get you to the proper authorities, and recount your story to those authorities. Folks in Otari need to know that the operations of our lumber consortiums are proving dangerous. Kortos. Whistledown. These Leadbuster lads. The druids are angry.”
Tain casts around for…something.
”This isn’t working, and Lurok here is proof.”

Tain’s eyes boggle as the orc takes…matters…into his own hands.
”Whoah, Argigoth! I meant that the whole lumber-industry isn’t working, for Otari; not that the interrogation isn’t working.” Tain almost spits in exasperation.
”I’m not sure there is anything more for Lurok to tell us. The question now is…what do we do with Lurok?”

Tain Hekkanen |

Tain shakes his head.
”Mikhail - he’s a hired thug. And hired by someone in tuis town. The people should now that nefarious goings on are…going on.” Tain is clearly becoming more than slightly exasperated.
”Look - we go bust up the…who were they…the Leadbuster Lads - without…ah…proabable cause - and we are the bad guys.”
Tain points to the trussed bugbear.
”Lurok here is our probable cause. He tells the authorities what happened. As long as none of the Leadbuster Lads are the authorities, we can act against them.”
Tain blinks.
”The Leadbuster Lads. We can act against them. Not the authorities.”
Tain wipes a hand across his eyes, clearly tired.

Tain suggests turning Lurok over to the proper authorities. He muses on the lumber consortiums and angry druids.
Argigoth threatens Lurok with gutting while the Orc heroically succeeds in critically intimidating frighting the bugbear who begs for mercy having told everything he knows.
Shocked by Argigoth’s aggressive intimidation, Tain tries to calm the Orc and wonders what to do with the bugbear.
Everyone would know about the Otari Guard that keeps the peace in town, and their leader the gruff and stout Captain Lardus Longsaddle. They can be found at the Otari Garrison.
Mikhail suggests letting him go.
Having successfully saved the Flume from sabotage and informed Klorte Hengus he honors his word and gives you a +1 striking hatchet for defeating the bugbear and the hellhounds. ” Looks like this may come in handy if you keep adventuring!”
Whatever you do the Lurok the bugbear, the Flume is safe.
The hour is late and you have a request to gather copper-ap mushrooms from Slab Hill for Magiloy which promises to be an easy peaceful adventure the next day.
As the group returns to their waterfront fishing camp after a long day of adventuring, Olli flies along with the group, ” Wow that was exciting! Do you guys do that every day? I thought Tain and Mikhail would be burnt toat when they got beathed on by two hellhounds! What did you find the most exciting? Mikhail Duskborn |

"You're right Tain. Let's drop him with Captain Longsaddle and head back to camp for the night."

![]() |

Having dropped the bugbear off with Captain Longsaddle and the Otari Guards, the heroes retired to the fishing camp for a night’s rest. With the crack of dawn and a good breakfast, the crew sets off to find the rare copper-cap mushrooms. Following Magiloy’s directions, you easily find Slab Hill, an out-of-the-way landmark about an hour northwest of town.
Olli exictily flies ahead and lands on a tree branch ” This must be the place!
You see a rounded mound with several large stone slabs resting along the hill’s side. Near one of the stone slabs, you spot a mushroom patch that looks like it has been picked with only one or two copper-cap mushrooms left. More alarming is that it looks like the slab has been shoved aside, revealing an opening into the hill. Next to the opening, you see a basket of copper-cap mushrooms plainly discarded in haste.
You could simply return to Magiloy with the basket of mushrooms to claim the reward, but obviously, someone carefully picked the mushrooms before carelessly dropping the basket next to an ominous tunnel leading into the rounded mound.
Olli cocks his long neck looking at the entrance ” Oh this doesn't look good, Someone probably went in there! What are you guys going to do?”

”Looks dark. Perrik, I will need a casting of magic - light I think, my friend.” Tain smiles warmly to the halfling.
”I imagine someone may have picked more than they bargained for…” he adds with a frown.

Perrik takes a look over the area for tracks. He sees a single fresh set of humanoid boot prints leading from the mushroom patch to the slab. There are some deep boot prints next to the slab showing heavy lifting ending with muddy boot prints heading into the opening. The halfling doesn’t see any prints leaving the opening.
Goxomas takes a drink while looking into the tunnel. He sees the light pouring into the opening leading to some kind of larger chamber illuminated by a flickering eerie, greenish light and visible webs. (Gox should be able to see fine in the eerie green light.)
Olli shivers ” I hate webs after living with all those spiders in the fishing house for so long. I’m glade you guys cleared it out.”
Tain suggests casting light magic as he makes a troubling pun about the unknown mushroom picker.

Tain sees medium-sized humanoid boot prints. The slab is quite heavy but within your ability to shift it a few inches.
Even with Argioth’s help the slab is much too heavy for two people to lift it.
Perrik summons a glowing orb attaching it to Tain’s shield and a second one to Mikhail’s shield. (Interesting you can now have up to 4 light spells going at once.)
Celosia picks up the basket and stores the copper cap mushrooms in her bag.
Mikhail slides down the tunnel keeping close to Tain.
( All aboard for the adventure express! Is that light at the far end of the tunnel getting brighter? Don’t say You didn’t have the option to skip this and head back to town, but then some other adventure would get all the pretty things and yummy XP.)
Ten feet From the opening in the hillside the tunnel opens up with light pouring into this wide, stone chamber from the outside. Thick mats of spiderwebs cluster in the chamber’s corners, and the walls bear crude carvings of human soldiers standing at attention between shallow niches. A passageway deeper into the hill has an emblem above it: an open hand with a star on the palm. Propped upright in each of the shallow wall niches are the remains of faithful guards interred long ago. Little more than skeletons wearing armor and weapons each bearing a talbard with the open star hand symbol.
Standing there looking at the dead guards you notice the skeletal guards start to move!

This chamber appears empty, but Goxomas, Perrik, Tain, and Mikhail all feel magical energy reverberating in the pillars “It’s a trap!”

Goxomas contemplates the unusual room. "It's obviously a trap. I wonder if there is some way to disarm it."

Mikhail Duskborn |

Before moving into the next room, Mikhail pulls out his healing kit and begins to tend to Argigoth's wounds.

"Well, that was exciting. I'm glad I learned some spells that work on undead!" If no one heals Argigoth, she'll offer a minor potion to help bring them up.
"Are you OK, Goxomas? That slash looks pretty nasty."
Ready to move on. Celosia doesn't have anything good for traps.
