All right. Here's my concept. I stuck with arcane, but went the witch route.

Character Background Summary:

Alizia's life was tough. Born the daughter of farmers, it was never destined to be easy, but her unique gifts only added to the life of toil she was born into.

She was a witch, a fact she managed to conceal, as far as she knew, from all close to her. Apart from an odd fascination with ancient texts and the constant companionship of a small scorpion, she seemed a relatively normal, but quirky girl.

Alizia was a bit of a loner, choosing the books Chask Haladan would loan her over the rambunctious playing of other kids her age. She would get lost in the tomes, reading of historic societies, arcane mysteries, and her favorite subject, the ancient Thassilonian empire.

As she grew older, the rare moments she had away from the farm were spent at The Curious Goblin, discussing the theories and fables surrounding Thassilon with Haladan and Sandpoint's resident sage, Bordert Quink. She discounted most of the things Quink said, but he was a fount of information.

When she came of age, it was uncertain what she should do. Her three older brothers were managing the family farm, and though she still worked the field as needed, it was clear that wasn't her true calling. She desperately wanted to travel to Korvosa to attend the Acadamae and expand on her gifts and deepen her knowledge. Unfortunately, her family was far too impoverished to afford that possibility.

So as the big Swallowtail Festival approaches, she sits, as usual, in the Curious Goblin, debating with old men and wishing for some chance or some opportunity to leave this small village and expand her knowledge.

I have seen a couple of great rolls as well but there are more low ones than high ones.

I am lucky enough to be in the higher bracket though

my advice is if we are both selected then stay near the barbarian she needs healing a lot.

Introducing Alemarra “Big Al” Rosethistle, of the Order of the Paw

Backstory:
Halfling caravans traveling across Varisia are often seen as easy prey by bandits. In order to bolster their defense, the small caravan that Alemarra Rosethistle grew up in employed a Dwarven veteran, Hilgra, as their guard. While at first Hilgra was just a hired hand, to young Alemarra her daily martial practice and vigilant watch for danger seemed both exciting and very noble. As Alemarra grew she found herself spending more and more time with the Hilgra who (lacking a child of her own) took her under her wing and drilled her in how to protect the caravan, and even in some of her ancestral techniques for combating giants.

It turned out that she grew like a weed until she towered a legendary 3’ 3” tall. Soon she was known only as “Big Al” and stood out head and shoulders above her family. Under Hilgra’s watchful eye, she appointed herself the protector of the younger Halflings, and eventually as an apprentice to Hilgra in defending the caravan itself.

The caravan’s travels took them far and wide. The dangers were real and more than once Big Al needed to fight beside Hilgra to stave off beasts and bandits. Through her teen years she was mostly content with this life, until the day the caravan came to [DM’s suggestion] where she first encountered the Order of the Paw. When she saw the Halfling knights in their gleaming armor training to stand against evil and treachery, she knew it was her calling, though it meant she would need to say goodbye to her two families, Halfling and Hilgra.

Now her training is done and Big Al has returned to Sandpoint, riding her wolf (“Dez”, in tribute to Desna). She fiercely loves this country, loves the good Halflings she grew up with, and loves Desna, who has watched over her travels since she was just a wee babe. She knows that there are real dangers in Varisia, and she’s ready to do her duty protecting the good people of Varisia from them.

Appearance:
Big Al Rosethistle stands tall and proud at 3’3” tall, with dark copper skin and black hair pulled back in a tail. Her silver wolf Dez is never far from her. Whenever there’s a threat of battle she wears her breastplate and carries her lance, heavy shield, and halfling sling staff.

Personality:
When safe and sound, Big Al has an easy warmth about her. When working, she keeps a constant eye for danger and is fiercely protective of those she has sworn to protect. She is very proud to finally be a real Cavalier in the Order of the Paw. Outside of her duty, she loves to lay on her back at night, gazing for hours at the stars.

I think my character is going to be a dwarven ranger, of the switch-hitting variety. Just working out the specifics.


Introducing Saroune Anzoletta, Varisian transmuter and scrollmistress.

Backstory: Saroune Anzoletta grew up among the magical traditions
of the Varisian people, traveling the caravan routes from the wild coast to the frozen north.

Though the art of sorcery so common among her people never manifested in her family's bloodline, she still yearned to master spellcraft, applying herself to learning the more bookish traditions of a wizard instead. She loves poring over ancient scrolls, deciphering their secrets, and adding them to her own. An avid dancer as well, she learned a means for applying her scrolls to a fighting routine her people use with bladed scarves. Fueled by magic, she can make her scrolls as sharp as a blade or as rigid as a shield, wielding them in a flurry of both dance and martial art. To that end, she's devoted herself to the magical school of transmutation, developing both her body and her craft into deadly instruments.

Unfortunately, this single-minded pursuit makes Saroune a social outcast among her people. She rarely participates in their gatherings anymore because of the demanding study her spellcraft requires. She often lingers in towns they visit, trading lore with any wizard willing to satisfy her curiosity. Thereafter, she catches up with her caravan when it suits her, leading to many arguments with her family. Someday, Saroune expects to part ways with her people, taking up the life of an adventurer. To that end, she cultivates relationships with like-minded people, surrounding herself with those who can understand and appreciate her skills.

Appearance: Saroune has the 5-foot, 9-inch frame of a graceful, willowy dancer. Weighing 155 pounds, she has long, dark, auburn hair which she wears long and loose. The unusual color of her golden eyes matches the scattered tattoos along her arms, shoulders, and legs—her dusky, suntanned skin a living canvass which her decorative corset and long skirt often leave bare when she travels and dances.

While adventuring, Saroune always keeps a belt of easily-accessible scroll tubes slung low around her narrow waist. She keeps a slender dagger there as well, though she mainly uses it as a cutting tool rather than a weapon. In physical combat, she prefers to keep her distance until she gains more consistent power with her scroll blade, throwing darts from a small pouch-like quiver on her hip, or relying on her spells to take down enemies from afar.

Personality: Saroune has an aggressive, focused personality, especially where it concerns arcane magic. Her interest in spells and eldritch history borders on obsession, causing her to spend an inordinate amount of time studying her spellbooks and scribing new scrolls. This leaves little room to practice social graces, and even when attempting a conversation on more mundane topics, she almost always relates them back to the philosophy of magic. Of course, almost no one gets the point of her ruminations, only leading to further frustration and social awkwardness.

This guy was originally built for the Carrion Crown campaign, but having never made it into the campaign, I've rebuilt him for Rise of the Runelord's.

Lord Bloodgrave wears custom jet black Armour. His Shield is engraved with the symbol of Pharasma, and his Breastplate fashions an engraving of Iomedae's symbol. The only coloured item of clothing he wears with this, is a long, tattered, crimson red cape that nearly hangs to the floor.

Those who have spoken to him say he always wears a patch over his left eye. Others who have seen him fearlessly march into battle, have said he fights with Sword and Shield, although, he carries a far greater sword in size, on his back, but nobody has ever seen him use it.

Personality and reasons for venturing to Sandpoint:

Although his personality is darker than most of those around him, Charles has good manners, is well spoken and respects those around him. At least, those that live.

Charles lives in his families Ustalavian Castle that was passed down to him through inheritance, as it was to all those before him, through previous generations stretching back further than the books and journals scattered around the Castle, have documented.

Somewhere down the line however, whether through foul play, a family members amorous infatuation or brief partnership, Charles' Noble heritage had been tainted by Vampirism.

With shadowy black hair, slightly unnaturally pointed canines, and an eye as black as night, the vampirism within his bloodline has been heavily diluted, with the only physical debilitation seemingly being an ever so slight aversion to bright light.

Regardless, as unique and different as his family history makes him, Lord Bloodgrave has developed an undying hatred for everything Evil and Undead, hunting them down, seeking them out and studying them as a life occupation.

He follows Pharasma's ideals, seeing the Undead as monstrous mistakes that don't belong in this world, but believes in the honour, Justice and valor of Iomedae, eradicating evil and the Undead threats that walk the world, in an attempt to protect the living, safeguarding them from the certain death that awaits them.

Now:

Currently walking the lands of Varisia (on one of his many hunts, [/spoiler), Charles had overheard locals of the land speaking of a strange, horse like Devil beast that supposedly roams the lands, killing people, devouring them and sucking out their souls.

Curious, he inquired with the local folk about the possible truth's behind the tales, and although intimidated by his features at first, they soon warmed up to him and pointed him in the direction of Sandpoint, suggesting that he may find more information on the beast there.

Thanking the people for their time, the dark warrior bid them farewell as he made his way to Sandpoint, hoping to find out more about the Sandpoint Devil, offering his aid to the town and updating his Hunting Journal, should anything new present itself to him, as he arrives during Sandpoint's most busiest time - The Swallowtail Festival!

Hopefully I'll get to play! :)

I also know that Goblins would have been the ideal Favoured Enemy to go with, but I wanted to bring an interesting concept in, with a guy who acts like a Paladin (similar, but colder morality/personality and all) who represents two gods and fights for Humanity/the good of Golarion, documenting things in his Hunter Journal as he goes along. :)

Hey, it's better than mine in some ways!

My guy's intelligent, so although I wanted Dex, I had to set that as my lowest stat just for flavour, as he should be fast, but I didn't have the points to make it so, so thematically he'd appear slow, but his intelligence was more important as he's a well educated man. :p

I would have much preferred at least a positive Int, but I play with the hand I was dealt! I'm not going to complain because at least he'll still be useful in combat, which is what Fighters were born and bred for.

Except I'll be a multi-classed Fighter (Two-handed)/Ranger (Infiltrator) switch hitter....but one who switches between sword and shield to something a little more interesting. Not a bow and arrow!

@ bi0philia: Nope, not going to let you reroll that. Look at it like it's an opportunity. Everyone, even heroes, has flaws. The point of the game is to tell an interesting story. (Well, technically, it's about beating the tar out of the BBEG, but if it's boring, what's the point.) I placed the lowest score at six so that you wouldn't be crippled by a lousy roll, but everyone wouldn't have super-awesome stats(tm) either. To me, a flawed character is more interesting than one that's great at everything. Hence why I have it that low. Anyway, I'll get off my soap-box now.

@ Everyone: I'm going to be going over submissions. Again, if you have any questions, just ask. I work during the day, so at night is when I do most of my posting. Also, be warned that If I see another person roll a whole bunch of times before rolling their stats, I will ask you to re-roll. Offering up rolls to the dice gods can be funny, but it can be too easy to game the system to get the numbers you want that way.

Just so that is clear:
Do not put a bunch of die rolls before rolling your stats. I will ask you to reroll and I won't consider your character if you refuse. You have been warned.

I'm happy with mine. They're very... Standard. Perhaps a tad above average.

Really, the average set is about 16, 14, 13, 12, 10, 9. Very roughly, which is a 19 point buy. Only about 9.3% of sets will contain an 18, but over half will have at least one 16.

It's also interesting to note that the average stat using the 4d6 drop one method turns out to be 12.24.

The probability behind 4d6 and dropping the lowest is interesting. Really rolling xdy and dropping the lowest dy is always fun to play with.

I'm not sure if that makes people feel any better or worse about their rolls, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

No need. I thought it was funny, and amazing that you'd actually count out that many d6's. I was just making a point to nip it then and there because I realized that it can be used as a mechanism for cheating.

@ Kuro: Perhaps Perform(Oratory)? Make him a storyteller, or perhaps he enjoys making wood carvings in his spare time? Really kinda hard to give something that will fit when the frame's pretty lean at the moment.

Hi DM-Salsa, the Order of the Paw comes from the Advanced Race Guide, or can be read here:

Let me know if you have concerns about the order, or if you have ideas about what their presence looks like in out near Varisia.

I just double checked in the ARG and don't see anything about where this order would be prevalent or how wide spread it is so I think that should be GMs discretion. Maybe there's actually a branch of the order in Sandpoint, but really all I need is somewhere within Valaria or near enough for a caravan to have visited.
