The World wound Pours forth Demons of every kind, the Storm King has made and attempt on the Ward Stones once before and our Intel tells us that he will likely do so again but who knows when. We seek knights, Paladins and all those whom would serve in the 5th Crusade heading into the World wound to drive back the Demonic presence, and close the festering wound that has destroyed Sarkoris.
I am going to give 2 options here.
1. You can go 25 pt buy but you have to roll your HP and stay with whatever you roll.
2. You can go a 20 pt buy and have max HP at every level
Backgrounds skills will be in effect.
Variant Multiclassing
Unchained Classed only
Skill Unlocks – Rogue’s get it naturally
Stamina System – Fighters get it naturally, everyone can feat into it.
The new Poison/Disease system
All Common races
All Classes – Yes Gunslinger without having to go bolt ace is acceptable.
Tiefling or Aasamir – Aasamir’s are welcome but Tieflings are not overly as they are suspect to their demonic partenage. This City does not like those who are not of the common races.
I am not overly familiar with the Occult Classes but you can play them if you wish.
No 3rd party please don’t ask this can get crazy enough as it is without some of the more powerful 3rd party classes. I do like them though I will tell people that much.
Nothing to overly expansive, Most people are going to be new to adventuring or crusading and hoping to get their fair share of the loot that is left in the country that was Sarkoris. A 2-3 paragraphs max is good for me.
Please no RP in the thread, ask any questions on the thread unless it is absolutely necessary.
[b][/bigger]Recruitment is open for 1 week closing on Sunday Jan 7th at 11:59:59 EST [/bigger][/bg]
I realize I am opening this on New Years Eve here in Canada but I find recruitments that run to long tend to get a bit much. I am running a game for some friends and am playing in some so this will be my first AP recruitment and 2nd overall on these forums.
Ouachitonian |
When you say common races, does that mean Core? Also, are Tieflings out completely, or just “be warned, some townsfolk won’t like you”? I’ve got a Tiefling Magus from another Wrath recruitment that ended recently I could tweak to fit these rules pretty easily. If Tieflings are out I can still use him, it’ll just take more retooling.
Khaz Cloudbreaker |
Submitting this character, just need to make him 20 point buy. And will variant multiclass oracle for life mystery and legalistic curse.
Dwarven Aasimar Hospitaler Paladin with Oath of the Crusade
Also can I keep my Alternate SLA? I can link to the roll from other thread. It just feels really Dwarven :)

Several years ago I started this campaign. Then I had my job absorb me far more than I would like and I fell off the boards completely.
I have a different job, now, and no fear of anything like that happening again.
Need to rework the character . . .. Already a 20 point build, but 2nd level Rogue instead of 1st level Unchained Rogue. No Background Skills, no Draw Back (infamous seems very appropriate, actually), need to rework to lower cash flow, and I have no idea what you mean by the new disease/poison rules. Also not sure if I should trade HP certainty for the permanent stat bump.
Archery Rogue is not in my normal build path, but the original background just makes it make sense. Already has more background than your target, but the background keeps it easy to stay true to the original concept.

I missed out on the last Wrath recruitment a few days ago, so here is the character I've built:
Godwyn Clearwater, human paladin (mind sword) of Iomedae
Godwyn is a philosopher-warrior. He believes that fighting to defend people is important, but that fighting the hordes of the Abyss with swords and armies is just fighting the symptom of a larger problem, and that you can't hack-and-slash the Worldwound closed. As a result he thinks a lot about ways to encourage people to do better, to be better, to make humanity and its allies better so that they can stand against the Abyss by standing together for common cause. He believes that the problems of corrupt crusaders, criminals, and cultists are just as much a hindrance as the demons of the Worldwound. He also believes that systemic poverty and inequality contribute as much to suffering, misery, and ultimately the rise of evil in the world as the machinations of supernatural entities.
As a result, Godwyn is not a "toe the line hardcase" paladin, but rather one who ruminates and reasons to figure out the best way to solve problems not just to protect people and defeat evil in the moment, but to provide long-term solutions. He won't shy from combat when it's called for, and he'll smite a demon just as well as anyone else, but he also thinks it's important to foster compassion, charity, justice, mercy, tolerance, and other similar characteristics.
Godwyn is empathetic and a good judge of character, and he was raised with the fanciful and heroic tales of the church of Iomedae and took them to heart in spite of his hard, poverty-stricken childhood. For his early adult life he was essentially an assistant to a retired mercenary crusader, so he didn't come to his paladin's calling until later in life than many - at this time, he is 30 years old.
Godwyn is a good listener and a conciliatory figure who is more likely to try to build consensus and defuse tensions than to argue or try to force people to do things "the one true way."
He could have character ties with other crusaders or clerics, connections from childhood in Kenabres, or might be a mentor figure to someone.
Godwyn is also psychically sensitive (he has the Psychic Sensitive feat) and as a Mind Sword he has a small selection of psychic abilities. This allows him to use certain occult skill unlocks, including Reading Auras, Prognostication, Hypnotism, and Faith Healing.
In terms of party role he is a reasonable front line melee fighter and he has some good resistance to a variety of mental conditions, with the eventual ability to cure those kinds of debuffs on the party (including nasty conditions like shaken or confused, at higher levels), and his Faith Healing skill unlock lets him do some emergency downtime healing in a pinch. He also has a decent Diplomacy score.
Always up for character connections if anyone is interested. Godwyn's info is all in the alias above.
A little bit about me: I'm a regular player and DM on the boards, so I'm not going to disappear suddenly. I like strong role-play, but I prefer cooperative games over competitive ones - I like working with a team to advance the story. When playing a paladin, I try to avoid causing unnecessary trouble for the group, and instead prefer to negotiate as a player with the rest of the party to figure out the best way for scenes to unfold when we have moral conflicts. I like having connections with other players and opportunities for us to help each other explore our characters' foibles and issues.
Terry the thief |
Reworked. Took the 25 point build. Carrying capacity sold me on it, actually.
Disease/Poison rules look interesting.
PC connections are easy with Terry. You've been assigned to watch over the traitor before he goes to the front lines, probably because you're going to have to work with him! I don't think that's the kind of connection you had in mind, Jesse, but, hey.

I have a character from a previous game that is based pretty heavily on a few spoilers I know about the general plot of the AP, but I've never played more than the first encounter or two. The general idea is a demon-born tiefling shadow oracle with the Touched by Divinity campaign trait, linked to a certain demon lord with ambitions of ascending who appears in person in one of the later books...but without her (the character's) knowledge, which goes somewhat against the wording of the trait. Since we didn't get far enough for it to matter, would this be problematic? I'd like to think that it wouldn't, since the previous GM allowed it, but he also lost all interest in the game by the time recruitment finished (example post: "You see a room.") and disappeared almost immediately, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's actually right up Godwyn's alley, Terry, since he's a good judge of character and the kind of paladin who believes that it's important to win people over and convince them to be better rather than just to charge headlong into fights.

@Jesse - My planned Eldritch Knight is actually going to be of noble descent and raised by his uncle after his parents were lost on a mission into the Worldwound. He's going to start as a sword binder wizard and probably grab a level in ranger before returning to wizard and finally prestige into EK.
In terms of backstory, Godwyn might have been one of his sparring partners growing up under the mercenary's tutoring. Considering they both would have access to the Hand of the Apprentice ability, maybe Godwyn picked it up watching Colt do it first and then learn to replicate it himself!
Fobok |
Dotting because this is looking so very interesting! My kind of AP and, looking at your previous experience, my kind of DM. I'm not sure I can handle another game yet, but I should have a grasp on that before the deadline.
I don't work and I'm home pretty much all the time, so I should easily be able to manage it, but I want to be sure before I actually commit. If I can, I'll get a character submitted before the deadline!
Aerleth |
Harm's Way here with the crunch for my character mostly complete. I'm working on his backstory now, it's looking like Reyr will be a born and bred Kenabres local.
As a Demonslayer, this character is pretty well suited to this AP. Plenty of bonuses on demon-related knowledge checks, and he should perform reasonably well against outsiders in combat as well.
Regena Reneta |
Submitted for your consideration, a half-elf inquisitor of Shelyn.
Regena grew up in Kenabres in the shadow of an older sister - Sharia, who by all accounts was as beautiful as the dawn. Sharia didn't see her 23rd birthday. When Regena was 4, both her and her sister were attacked by a vile abomination from the Wound. Regena survived; Her sister didn't.
As soon as she had grown old enough to make her choice, Regena chose to follow the ways of beauty as her sister had; the way of Shelyn. The fact that she possessed a simple appearance without the traits expected of the clergy did not deter her zeal. When she encountered resistance within the existing hierarchy, she chose a path in which her well chosen words could stand in for an awe-inspiring visage.
Regena sees the ugliness of the world as the enemy of Shelyn (and by extension, Regena's enemy). The World Wound is the most obvious manifestation of that ugliness.
The young half-elf's greatest weakness is the hidden fear that her words aren't enough in the eyes of Shelyn; She doesn't measure up.
At 5' 3" with plain dark brown hair and gray eyes, Regena doesn't stand out in a crowd. The only thing that people might remember about her would be her voice. Whether spoken or raised in song, her words are rarely forgotten.

Lysander the Swordsman |
This is Ouachitonian's entry. Lysander is a Tiefling Magus (Kensai, Black Blade). In time, I intend to go Archmage, possibly Dual Pathed with Champion. I expect to stay Magus for all 20 levels, but as closely tied as the character is to the Riftwardens I might go into that prestige class. Plenty of time to see how things develop before I have to make that call. Since he's a Tiefling, I'd eventually like to pick up a Hat of Disguise. I took the Umbral Unmasking drawback, it seemed really thematic since there are options on the Tiefling variant ability and alternative physical features charts that also involve casting odd shadows.
Lysander's a pretty normal Shocking Grasp/Magical Lineage build. I looked at some others, but that one's just so perfect for Magus I couldn't stay away (I do wish you could take multiple traits from the same category, though. I debated over a couple of other Magic traits for a while. Too bad that even additional traits doesn't allow that). I haven't fully planned out the build, but there are a few things I know: To combat demons' electricity immunity, I'll definitely be picking up Elemental Spell and/or the Energy Conversion Archmage ability. Enduring Armor is also high on my list to pick up, since Kensai can't wear normal armor. Likewise, as a Dex build I'm definitely going for Mythic Weapon Finesse. And since Kensai lose Spell Recall, I'll be taking Wild Arcana to make up for it. If I Dual Path Champion, I'll probably take the Fleet Charge Champion's Strike.

10.14.14.17.10.15
Background:
In the Ring Distict of Kenabres this twilight of the 4th crusade, tensions are high as threats seem to come from everywhere, real or imagined. With action the truth can be decided however, and such was the case for a struggling wizard named Reuleaux.
Scraping together some little renown by claiming to be descended from old Kenabren engineers (the very ones responsible for the pumps and pipes supplying the city) it was for this reason he was approached to sniff out the truth of a paranoid plot about poison snaking though the system. It was easy enough for a mage to detect poison but how far did he dare descend in the murky underground?
In truth he descended from Riftwardens, or so he was told. He had dedicated a good few decades of his life trying to understand these people and the planes and here on the edge of the Worldwound there seemed no better place to bear witness. Somehow he had become comfortable here over the years, and as he climbed in and over the old lead plumbing he only thought about what lie he could use on his employer, something to ease their mind and get a few coin out of it all.
But when he saw it he froze. Unarmed, unarmored, and three-quarters upside-down his eyes locked with the foul red orbs in the mass of black flesh. Scarcely managing a gasp as the beast lunged towards him he quickly recoiled and did not look back until he saw daylight. Tumbling head over heels he cartwheeled out of a pipe dirty and sweaty right into the middle of the city square.

I wanted to check before working on a character, I am running a Wrath Campaign myself, we've started book four. Not sure if that would discount me as a character.
I got tagged into Wrath PBP too several months back after a player had to go inactive for a bit which is still ongoing but isn't progressing the fastest and I previously checked with the GM if he minded if I applied to another Wrath campaign. I'm playing an Arcanist in that one so would make something a little different.

There was also a mention of a Drake, from Legacy of Dragons, but the internal link was broken and I didn't go hunting further.
The non-vulture birds all seem more appropriate to me than either a dinosaur or another big insect.
Then again, I always thought of the butterfly as representing both beauty and free movement, and the birds relate to that theme much more readily in my head.
