He could well return. I recall he said something on Discord about being gone for a while. I'll try and remember to look after I get home from work and see if I can find what I think I read from him.
Cameron Hawkwinter |
I get the impression this one is quite hard to run, it's older and not as well written as the newer modules and the game changes dramatically after leaving riddle port. This is the furthest I've got with it so far. I hope Dak comes back :)
On a side note has anyone else found the forums to be a bit less welcoming than in the past? Perhaps it's a side effect of not many new tables starting up anymore.
Thyra Osouf |
He was finishing up with school. So far as I'm aware of, though, he's all done with that. Roughly about a month ago.
Nessa Meretrix |
Yeah, this AP was written in DnD 3.5 and never has been converted. It does make it a challenge. The first book also, as I understand it, really doesn't fit well with where the campaign goes with everything either. I personally blame COVID and the mess it's caused globaly.
As for feeling less inviting, I think less games starting up is part of it. I blame that in part on COVID as well but also on people not really being sold on 2ed just yet. I also find it a shame there have not been more recruitments for the last several APs but especially Return of the Runelords. I soooo want to play it and I think the only game I got into folded before it even started cause the GM went *Poof!*
Cameron Hawkwinter |
I've had a run of games folding due to GM disappearance and dissatisfaction, always happened of course - feels bad because some of them I'd played with for a long time. Ah well.
Thyra Osouf |
I think I've been lucky. I've only had one or two APs fold. The rest have just been going slower than usual.
As for the lack of new games, I'd say give it some time. Part of the problem is that people are used to having 10 years worth of product, then going down to almost nothing.
Personally I love 2e. I'm currently running 2 different tables through Age of Ashes at home, and working to start one up here. I also play in Extinction Curse, and looking to get my hands on the first book for Agents of Edgewatch to see what I think of it.
Nessa Meretrix |
I very much want to like 2ed, there are very few things I don't care for thus far, My home group just isn't playing, or wasn't before we had to stop due to COVID anyway, and I now have the APG which has some really good material in it so far. I love the changes to the planes-touched races, dhamphir, and changelings allowing hem to be from any race now.
I've started Age of Ashes a couple of times but never gotten further than the intro before the GM poofed on it. I'd be very interested to play if you run any of the 2ed APs Thyra.
I've honestly lucked out and only a few games have ground to halt from COVID, one of the ones I most want to continue likely will once the GM's life calms down.

I liked the idea of 2e rules, but when I last looked (9 months ago or maybe more) it wasn't possible to make a decent gish. I'm sure splat books will change that ofc.
Nessa Meretrix |
Maybe? I think you can do it, just not right off. Given that you get to bump multiple attributes at 5, 10, 15, and 20, and that the bump is a +2 to the stat unless it is already at an 18 or more, it should be possible with careful planning ahead.
Thyra Osouf |
Sorry. That's a term I've never used before. Had to look it up. :p
It's true that there are few options for a martial character that also uses magic, straight out of the box. That said, They just added Warden spells for the Ranger, and caster/Rogue option. Also, Archetypes in 2e give some nice options.
Thyra Osouf |
Whaaaat? Gish?
Best characters ever! Martial + magic :D
I would say the Magus is a quintessential gish in PF 1e.
I understand the concept. Just never heard the specific term being used like that.
Cameron Hawkwinter |
It's from Githyanki Gish who are fighter/wizards, pretty sure those go all the way back to 1e.
Thyra Osouf |
I know that now. I use the internets good. ;)
Cameron Hawkwinter |
Please let him know he'll be in our thoughts and prayers.
GM Dak |
Hey, I wanted to drop in and give all my games an update. I'm still alive, obviously, and I've managed to stay out of the hospital and off a ventilator. However, I'm still not fully recovered. Even though I'm outside my two week symptomatic/infectious period by over a week there are some lingering issues that are still weighing on me (continued shortness of breath, getting light headed, overall fatigue). I doing my best to push through it but it is barely just enough to get me through work everyday and doesn't leave a lot of time for anything else. I would like to give a hard and fast "I'll be back and up to playing again by this time", but sadly at this point I can't. It could be a couple weeks or it could be a couple months for me to get used to this new (hopefully temporary) norm on top of a few other things going on.
All this to say, I'm ok, I'm trying my best to manage, but I can't give you a hard "this is when I will be back". I understand it has been awhile as it is, between this most recent struggle with COVID and my past slowness with finishing up my graduate stuff so if you need to move on without me I completely understand and I'm just sorry that right as I was getting back into things again this whole virus thing came along and knocked me back down again. I'll check in again once I feel I'm up to playing with everything else I am balancing.
Nessa Meretrix |
Hey no problem, I'm just glad to hear you're alive and surviving. I'm very patient so take your time and get better.
Thyra Osouf |
No need to worry, Dak. Get better. We'll be here. :)
Cameron Hawkwinter |
Some of my relatives had a brush with Corona too, it's no joke. I wish you a speedy recovery!
GM Dak |
Sorry for the long silence a lot been going on and after getting pinged on Discord I wanted to drop a note in all my games. I'm actually doing a lot better now, pretty much fully recovered. However, my wife has been really sick, last month she was in the hospital for a week and I'm sitting in the surgery center now waiting to see how things turn out on a few hour procedure she is currently in. Depending on how invasive the surgery is I may be dealing with a lot for at least a month or so taking care of her and the kids and working. On top of that with the holidays coming and the normal delays that revolve around that I am going to say that it's going to be at least January before I look at picking things up again. Maybe if things get better sooner I will try jumping back in before that but I feel like early January is going to be more realistic.
If you need to move on without me I understand feel free to find a replacement if needed and when I check back we can go from there. Sorry for all the absent time, these last few months have just really kicked my butt first physically, then mentally and emotionally. Hope you all are keeping safe and have a good Thanksgiving and Christmas for those who celebrate.
Sarai Shae |
Sorry for all you've been going through. Certainly, take care of real life first.
I have no problems holding on through the end of the year. It's been a crazy one at that. If we do manage to pick back up at the start of the year, I'll still be here.
Thanks for checking in, and I hope things improve for your wife soon!
Thyra Osouf |
I'm also okay with waiting, if the others are as well. There's certainly a lot going on, and a bit of a dip in activity doesn't hurt.
Hope that all goes well with your wife and your family. Be well.
Sarai Shae |
Hey guys, I noticed that this game is no longer in my campaign tab. I'm guessing for lack of Gameplay posts.
I'm still happy to start up again if Dak is able to return, but am not sure how we can all coordinate if no one can see the campaign.
Ideas?

Hey Sarai, all you need to do is a post in Gameplay ;)
GM Dak |
Hey everyone. It's January and I'm looking at starting to get back into my games. Things have finally settled a bit in my life so I'm going to slowly start picking things back up over the coming weeks until I am back at full speed.
Want to check in here and see who is still around and if we want to continue on.
Cameron Hawkwinter |
Cool! Lets do this.
Thyra Osouf |
I'm still here, as well.
Glad to see you made it out the other side, Dak. :)
