No issues if we continue on as is, especially if both old and new players are ok doing so. At this point I might as well officially accept taking things over. Like I noted though, busy week, so may be closer to middle or end of next week before we kick off again, but could always be sooner just depending on how things go.

@Sarai I'm nearing the end of a Dual MBA/MSIS.

As for a fifth player I will leave that up to you all. From what I've read the AP was geared more around four but I would be ok picking up a fifth if you thought it was needed/would enhance the experience. I don't mind bumping up the CR of encounters if things start getting too easy :D

Many thanks for taking this over, GM Dak! It's sad to see a game die, but nice to have you save us before it did!

I'm fine to continue from where we are. We all did have a pretty good tie-in as new employees.

As for a 5th player, I think it could be nice just to have more players pushing things forward and for inevitable attrition, but if everyone prefers 4 I'm fine with that.

@GM Dak. Very cool on the joint degree! I'm a fellow joint degree (JD/MBA). You'll have a lot of open doors, I"m sure. :)

I agree, a 5th player for me to torme...I mean play with is fine with me.

Hey GM Dak - thanks a lot for taking this one over!

I'm cool with adding a 5th person - as Sarai said, having more players is always a good way to fight attrition.

As for starting from scratch, the only thing which makes me hesitate is going back to level one :P But I am cool with both options.

I second this.

Sounds like no one is against having a 5th player, so looking for a new player should probably get rolling sooner rather than later. The only question would be whether or not we should without the 5th player or not.

Personally, I think we should get back on track as soon as GM Dak is able, and the newbie can join as we go.

Yup, I'm in the midst of catching up on things and familiarizing myself with the AP. Once I get closer to the present posts I'll chime in about the process for a 5th, but likely like Thyra noted continue on ASAP and then look toward bringing on a 5th.

So caught up on the gameplay after knocking out some work today faster than expected. Have a few questions for people in spoilers below. Just finishing reading through the AP then I'll start some prep and we should be good to go soon.

Thyra:
Did you have any preconceptions for what happened to your parents or do you mind me working with that as I see fit? Also, as an inquisitor of Torag how close to your god are you? IE are you super devout or just so-so?

Hedran:
I didn't see a background in your character profile do you have any details on that? Specifically, why you are in Riddleport and what brought you to the Gold Goblin for work.

Nessa:
I know you setup a meet with a cyphermage and Samaritha but I don't recall seeing what happened from there, could have just missed it but if you could give me a recap that would be great!

Sarai:
I didn't really have any questions for you but didn't want you to feel left out not getting a spoiler of your own :D

One thing for anyone that wouldn't mind helping out while I am working on prep can you figure out roughly how many days the game has been going on in character? I know it has been a few weeks but wasn't paying close attention to that while I was reading through.

The scene was never played out, it just happened in the background iirc.

HR | MM | RotRL | SD | SS1 | SS2 | WftC_1 | WftC_2 |

Nessa:
Do you recall if she left to go study with the cyphermages or as far as you know she is still at the Gold Goblin?

GM:
It wasn't really stated but she is now studying with the mages. Whether she is still working part time at the goblin was never said. Nessa would still be in touch with her though as she hasn't finished seducing her yet.

Yes, that is Nessa's general thought process by the way. The harder it is to get into someone's bed the more of a challenge they become.

LG | human Inquisitor of Torag 3 | HP 22/22 | AC 17; TAC 12; FFAC 15 | Fort +5; Ref +3; Will +7 | Init: +9 | Perc: +9, SM: +10 (+8 vs. creatures that threaten, accuse or challenge you and haven't apologized) | Speed 30 ft | Active conditions: NA; Judgement - NA | Deflection Aura: 0/1 (3 rds); Judgement: 0/1 | Daily Spells: 1st - 2/4

GM Dak:
Can't say that I put much thought into it, at the time. I would say that she has a vague memory, at best, of her parents. As to what happened to them, I would think that she would have been too young to know (maybe no more than 5). If you want to play around with that, feel free.

As to her faith, since she grew up in the church, I would say that she has a closeness to Torag, though not in the same fashion as a Cleric would (obviously). I might see her as more of a law/peace keeper of sorts than a zealot. She especially focuses on the crafting and protection which Torag represent (and big hammers :D). She's not huge on tactics, though she makes an attempt.

In regards to how she tolerates the lawlessness around her, she's at least smart enough to realize that she is not going to be able to go against an entire city of thieves and such, and the Gold Goblin is becoming like something of a domain. If you cross the threshold, you're under her jurisdiction. First and foremost, though, she is out to protect her church by being an agent against the evil that is growing (and her new friends are slowly being folded into that umbrella).

Hope that makes some sense.

GM Dak:
The background was only bare bones, and presented in the Recruitment only :)

Hedran is an half-orc Hexcrafter Magus hailing from Nirmathas originally. He was adopted by humans at an early age, after his father's roving band out of the Hold of Belkzen was decimated, and lived most of his life in a non-descript village where he was 'tolerated' even if never accepted.

The exception were his parents, definitely the best of what the settlement had to offer, and the only reason why he was allowed to grow strong and healthy - not only that, but there was more about the boy...

First there were those arcane symbols etched all over his back - they were there when he was first encountered, and seemed to 'grow' as Hedran grew also? And then that old crone which had lived for years and years on the outskirts of the village kept bumping into him in the woods, and offering the boy trinkets and tokens and whatnot - "Ye're a different one aren't ya?" - she would say with a cackle - "Ye know it, and ye know I knows it also".... Everyone was kind of scared of the damned old crone, but not him - for some reason he actually enjoyed being around her, as she went on and on about fey realms, nixies and sprites and other woodland apparitions.

His father tried to put a stop to it, even threatened the woman, and made her run off more than once. But she never hurt him, and came to play a very important part in his life years later...

So, Hedran's background is a work in progress - I'll keep adding to it as time allows. Also, personally I like leaving things a little open ended even if most of it is thought out in my head. Continuing:

- He lost his parents in a tragic situation back in Nirmathas;
- Went into apprenticeship with the crone, and learned from her the basis of his magic;
- She disappeared under mysterious circumstances, leaving him only a note to contact a man named Teridizor at the Arcanamirium in Absalom;
- When he got there, he was informed the man had deceased in Riddleport (without any details);
- Without contacts and with tuition fees through the roof to even as much start at the Arcanamirium, he decided to make some money with odd jobs, and at the same time look for Teridizor in Riddleport.

Sounds solid so far?

Thyra:
Ok thanks for the info! Let me see if some assumptions I would like to make work with you.

Since you were "adopted" by the dwarves from being left at their doorstep I would assume your parents probably had some previous relation with them, possibly worked for them or something similar. Maybe as miners or something similar that would expose them to the deeper parts of the dwarven tunnels?

As far as your faith, I'm not sure if you would be interested in playing this out or just want me to kind of play it out for you, but I was thinking that you start getting visions about your parents. These visions start small with just seeing them and your glimpses of your happy life before being left with the dwarves, eventually leading up to what caused their death. Of course, either way I would let you know the circumstances of their death at the right time. The reason you would start getting these visions is in line with your real mission of protecting the church from evil that is growing. It just so happens that your parents accidentally got caught up in this evil really before anyone else which eventually lead to you being orphaned.

Thoughts?

Hedran:
Great thanks for the info, I can work with that. I'm not sure exactly how yet, but I will figure it out... *insert maniacal GM cackle*

HR | MM | RotRL | SD | SS1 | SS2 | WftC_1 | WftC_2 |

Going to go ahead and kick things off. I've read through enough that we can get this going. Just bare with me while I work on maps, in the meantime we will go less tactical and more theater of the mind.

GM Dak:

That's a good possibility. I had just thought of her a effectively 'dumped' on the doorstep, but they could have made arrangements either because they were members of the church, friends of the clergy, or just respect the dogma of Torag.

I'm certainly interested in playing out what you have in mind. For the most part, she doesn't think much of her parents anymore (it's been 10+ years. She's got a lot of other things on her mind.), but a sudden dream/vision about them would certainly rattle her world a bit and make this a bit more personal.

GM Dak:
I've been wanting to use the Obedience rule/ability for Torag as part of her morning ritual, whenever possible. Regardless, it's something that she will do purely for the RP element, but what do you think about her receiving the sacred bonus when she does?

HR | MM | RotRL | SD | SS1 | SS2 | WftC_1 | WftC_2 |

Thyra:
I'm ok with you doing the obedience and getting the bonus as long as you remember to actually RP it out that day :D

Dang, you all were too fast for me. Just so this doesn't go completely to waster here's what I was working on for a post the last hour or two.

Quote:

Nessa considered various things she could do to resolve this without violence. She thought of offering time with herself to them, which as anyone with any knowledge knew was worth more than gold, but she figured these ones were too dumb to understand this and probably too scared of their boss. She smiled evilly and knew she had another option open to her, maybe she could make them more scared of her than him.

Drawing herself up Nessa mantled her wings and adopted her most domineering look as she glared at the thugs like ants and said haughtily, "You would dare to steal from the great demoness Lashiel? Who are you to claim this wine shipment?" She narrowed her eyes in anger and planted one clawed fist on her hip as she said, "It is mine or you will get to entertain my pet incubi when I finish dragging you back down into the abyss with me." Her grin was positively evil as she said, "and they have been feeling oh so neglected lately, I think they would enjoy some fresh meat to play with."

Guess I'll scrap that now.

Hm, maybe if you are in the midst of a post but have to step away and don't want me to move forward just yet, put up a quick note here in the discussion like "Post incoming" so I know to wait.

Otherwise, I try and keep things moving along as long as I have a couple people moving things forward (ie getting successes in skill checks or just chatting). Of course if it is something that requires a response from everyone or everyone thus far had failed then I try to wait about 12 hours since my last post for people to get something in.

I had that same thought actually and will plan to do it in the future.

I don't remember seeing this so thought I would check. Were you guys messing with any of the Gold Goblins profitability stuff? IE doing things to make it more profitable and actually seeing how much money was made or did the GM just not worry about that 'mini-game' aspect?

Also, I think I'm going to go ahead and start a recruitment on Monday for at least 1 more to add to the group. However, I have some very specific things in mind as far as race and backstory tie in. Additionally, depending on pacing it could be several day/week in-game before you meet the new person, but I figure I can essentially run them through spoilers of what is going on until you do link up. Any one have any thoughts or concerns before I do that?

I sent an email to Paizo customer service to get the thread here moved under my control at which point I will edit/update all the pertinent information.

For everyone else, went through and finalized the dates and such so I know where we are now. Just a recap for everyone, obviously the new folks wouldn't know any of this up until the 15th.

I will add this and keep it updated in the campaign info once I have access to edit it from Paizo.

Ok have Hedran and Nessa assigned, so now you should be able to move your respective token.

As a side note to Hedran & Sarai with you multiclassing was that intentional or due to filling a specific role in order to meet requirements for the previous recruitment?

The reason I ask is I am preparing my recruitment post for the 5th player. Before I get that up though, if one/both of you wanted to modify your character to get rid of the multi-class so that the new person needed to fill a specific role than I am opening that up as an option. However, if you just wanted to multiclass because that is what you had in mind for your character that works too. Just let me know today, so I can get that recruitment post up.

NOTE: For the new recruitment there will be some spoilers to the AP. If you don't want to be spoiled on things coming up don't read the spoilers that will say (SPOILERS FOR CURRENT PLAYERS, STAY OUT!). If you don't care about being spoiled and read them anyway, be sure to keep that OOC knowledge separate from your characters IC knowledge :D

Male half-orc magus (hexcrafter) 2/ranger 1 || Init +2 || Perception +6 || Speed 30 ft. || AC 16 (currently 20/12/18), touch 12, flat-footed 14 (+4 armor, +2 Dex) || hp 26/26 || Fort +9, Ref +6, Will +5 || Effects: None

Yeah... I know I should not multiclass as a Magus, but really I did it because it seemed kinda in line with Hedran's background AND because it gives me a few decent class skills from the get-go, Power Attack, and a few other goodies.

It shouldn't really change Hedran's intended role - which is of a... Versatile melee bruiser? :D So yeah, in my case it was intentional.

And I'll just stay away from the spoilers :P

Tiefling Rogue 1 / Wizard 2| HP 21/21 | AC 15; Tch 14; FF 11 | F +1; R +6; W +3 | CMB+1; CMD 15 | Speed 30 ft | Init +10 | mwk Shortbow: +6 (1d6) | Perc +10

Thanks for the synopsis of past events. That’s very helpful.

I’m multiclassing into arcane trickster eventually. I expect to play like a rogue/skills character, for the most part.

Ok, that's perfect just thought I would check before I make the actual recruitment post.

No worries on the synopsis. It helps me too, plus I think after a long time playing it will be useful for reference of things that happened that people may have forgotten :D

Agreed. Despite the fact that I've read through the previous posts, it helps to give things a little more perspective.

And the recruitment thread is up. You are more than welcome to keep an eye on it, but just know people may mention some spoilers so if you don't want any of that it may be better to avoid it :D. If you know of anyone that may be interested feel free to direct them to the Recruitment

I think adding one more is a great idea. I hate spoilers, so I'm avoiding those like plague. :)

Yup, I don't think they gave it to me last week, since I had only posted in the Discussion, but after I started posting in the gameplay they seemed ok giving me access.

Dak:
One thing I believe was done very early on was a room downstairs was set aside for Nessa to "entertain" in. Any clue which one? It might be helpful to know some day.

Nessa:
Marked on on the map for you :D
