Zane Levallis
Zane gives Ser Armithia a grateful look when he withdraws his wand of healing. While the magic item was finite, the priest would rather save his last gifts from Lathander for urgent, combat-driven situations. Once everyone was healed up, the cleric looked curiously at Delenn as Azarra offered to place a ward upon her, wondering how the elven wizard would respond.
Delenn Moonbean
Delenn smiles weekly at Azarra, "Thanks. I may take you up on that before this day is through, I fear what we may find below. I was lead to believe the Library had been largely passed over by the invaders, but clearly something terrible happened here. This place was one of the precious few centers of learning and enlightenment in the darkness after the fall of Myth Drannor. Now it's become a carnival of the damned."
Ishta Khosiv
"Something terrible..." Ishta can't help wonder what could have that been. She also flies to her own obscure origins, and weird ideas of connections between this darkness and the fate of the children of Phlan assault her.
"Delenn, you're a wise and cult person, I might have some things to ask you when we finish this. But for now, let us haste and restart the defenses. I hope we haven't bitten more than we can chew."
Can she really be a spy? It seems not, but only time will tell.
Azarra
Azarra smiles at Delenn and backs off, but would have felt a lot more confident about her if she knew she wasn't evil.
She makes sure her Ioun torch is functioning, and suggests they go around the outside hallway to the northeast.
She's just trying to get them going... if someone has a better suggestion, she'll happily go along.
Zane Levallis
Zane nodded at Azarra's suggestion of the northeast hallway, anxious to be going in any direction besides backwards. He eyed Delenn uneasily as she waved away the protective spell, but now was not the time for conflict between the group and the elven wizard. The priest hurried along the others down the hallway, every now and then looking behind for the hounds or whatever else might be trying to sneak up on them.
DM Fang Dragon
Ser Armithia's Helm given sight doesn't mark her as evil for what it's worth. I'll try and update later but it may be tomorrow before I can post.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
I figured that she would have been in the area of the cone at some point...lol.
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas readies a vial just in case whatever they must face next happens to be worse than the fiend they just managed to overcome. So far, the day has managed to get progressively worse and worse. "Surely we must be close now ..."
Ishta Khosiv
As she really doesn't know where to go next, Ishta nods at her companions' suggestion. "Altright, let's go there. The sooner the better."
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia takes rearguard as they continue.
Delenn Moonbean
Ishta leads the party round the north east corner and they spot an ornate door.
Delenn tells you, "The 'angry library' is within. Not been inside myself but it's supposed to house texts that the church of Oghma considered blasphemous to Oghma or Mystra and the practice of magic in general."
She glances you before adding, "I don't believe there's an angel inside, or at least if there is, its existence was hidden from me."
Ishta Khosiv
"Let's skip it then, or? Resetting the defenses should be prioritary, we'll come back later." Ishta waits some seconds, though, both to allow for a different opinion and to let someone else take the lead. She feels squishy enough to not head the march and take the first blood.
Zane Levallis
Zane nodded his agreement with Ishta's reasoning. "Let's move on. Once we've achieved our objective, we can always sweep through the unexplored areas on the way back." Zane prepared to follow Ser Armithia, should the gold elf decide that bypassing the door was prudent for now.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia nods. The Paladin has taking up guarding the rear, since the hounds seemed determined.
DM Fang Dragon
I forgot to mention the map is updated. The mists prevent you from seeing too far but you can tell there's one corridor leading south, two small ones leading east and another west. To the south west of your current location is where Delenn suggested the angelic gate is.
Azarra
Azarra doesn't like skipping things, but since Zane said they could sweep it on the way back, she decides to take him at his word and move on with the rest of the party.
She moves forward to peer down the hallway to the east, trying to see what she can through the mists.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
Zane Levallis
Changed our marching order to reflect Ser Armithia staking out the rear for hounds. If anyone disagrees, please let me know.
Zane crept forward with Azarra and helped to peek down the hallway to the east, though he spent most of his time looking south to make sure nothing tried to engage the group from that direction while they were busy scouting behind and to the side.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Kardas Rasalas
Both Kardas and his familiar remain on edge. The encroaching mist instills a sense of dread within the swordmage which in turn causes the man to snarl.
DM Fang Dragon
Azarra moves a short way down the eastern corridor which opens up into a side room, clogged with high, sagging shelves brimming with books, relics, and other arcane curiosities. Nearly all of the once-shelved books lie scattered across the floor in a haphazard mess.
Ishta Khosiv
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Kardas Rasalas
"Great. The dogs are still on our tail and look, over there, that used to be a person." Kardas points at the librarian's corpse after his fox had started to snarl at it. "Call me a genius, but the bloody remains of that hapless individual combined with the absolute state of this place give me the impression something ... happened here, and whatever that is, it might still linger."
Perception Kardas: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Perception Fox: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia stands guard in the hallway.
Azarra
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
In addition to the insight shared by Kardas, Azarra shares that
There is a summoning circle inlaid into the floor here. There also seems to be something invisible in here with us.
Ishta Khosiv
As soon as Azarra warns them of an invisible creature, Ishta quickly reaches for one of her scroll cases, producing a piece of old paper and reading it. "Close your eyes" she warns. A cloud of bright dust appears near them.
Casting Glitterdust from a scroll.
Zane Levallis
Zane's fingers clenched upon his weapon as they spied the body of the librarian elder, the distant sounds of the pursuing pack urging him to continue along the corridor. Instead, he forced himself to stay put as he listened to the valuable insight from his companions, looking at Ishta as she called out her warning. He closed his eyes, waiting for the sorceress to let them know it was clear to open them again.
DM Fang Dragon
Ishta can you please indicate on the map where you want to cast that spell? Also can you please place your character to have line of sight.
Ishta Khosiv
Sure. The blue + on the map is the center, and the spell area is a 10ft radius spread. It will last for 3 rounds. I thought from there I would cover most of the room.
Azarra
Azarra closes her eyes when warned, waiting for the all clear.
DM Fang Dragon
Sorry for the delay. Spells cast from scrolls have really low DCs (10+ spell level + minimum stat required to cast it). For level 2 scroll it's DC 13. Still the blinding effect isn't the point :)
??? Will DC 13: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 <--- PASS (just)
Ishta's spell summons a great billowing cloud glow of sticky yellow particles. These congeal around something, revealing an eerie beast which seems to be the animated skeleton of a huge fanged cat, its bones glowing with fire and seething with smoke!
Ishta Khosiv: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Kardas Rasalas: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Ser Armithia-Seendren: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

No worries; I have my weekly PFS game in a bit, so post again later.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Lead it back here; into the open!
The Paladin then lifts his bastard sword.
Helm bless this weapon!
Divine Bond(sp): standard; +1
He then moves behind Zane.
Kardas Rasalas
"It might be trapped within the circle! ..."
Might. Kardas blinks as that sower of doubts burns a hole straight his mind and, purely on instinct, he tightens the grip on his blade. The answer to the source of his doubt would come soon enough.
Std action: ready action (attack) if the beast moves out from the circle to attack us.
Swift action: Arcane Strike
Readied Attack: 1d20 + 90 ⇒ (2) + 90 = 92
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
I took the liberty of moving you, Armithia.
Azarra
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 (fail)
Once she knows Ishta's spell is over, Azarra opens her eyes and sees the fire-cat.
She backs up as much as she can, running into Zane behind her, and then shoots at it, hoping that arrows will work on the strange thing.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8
Unfortunately, she is a little shaken by the thing and utterly misses.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Thank you, Kardas. Sweet attack bonus, lol.
Ishta Khosiv
Kn Planes: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Not sure if this speech can be done out of turn our Ishta would have to wait, so I thought better use spoilers.
Kardas Rasalas
Ah! Well, a total of 11 is never going to hit but doh ._.
DM Fang Dragon
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Kardas waits sword in hand, ready to strike should the beast escape!
Azarra backs up and nearly trips on the rotted remains of a bookshelf and it's contents which have been strewn across the floor! Unfortunately this spoils her shot.
Delenn Moonbean
Delenn wand in hand looked fearfully at the hellcat and then dubiously back to her wand. She seemed to sag when she realized it likely be highly resistant to fire and magic in general.
Tensely she asks, "How do you wish to proceed? I believe it may be trapped. Crossing the circle will undoubtedly release it."
And to underline this, the hellish creature surged forwards before smashing into some invisible barrier sending sparks flying! Its roar of anger and frustration was like a forge when the bellows are going full tilt!

Zane Levallis, Ishta Khosiv, Kardas Rasalas, Azarra, Delenn and Ser Armithia-Seendren are up.
Zane Levallis
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Zane eyed the fire-licked remnants of the writings scattered about with trepidation, but steeled himself and instead called upon the Morninglord for assistance, a glowing nimbus surrounding his hand before he then reached over and touched the shoulder of the Rashemi wizard-warrior. A translucent barrier appeared suddenly around Kardas, humming with energy for a moment before fading away.
Cast Protection from Evil on Kardas.
Azarra
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
Azarra notices that the paper remnants in the room seem to be singed.
She casts detect magic, seeing that there are several magical items on the corpse in the corner. She thinks they might be useful in this situation, for surely someone with a summoning circle would have protections against it... although, er... he was dead. Hmm. She wonders if she could make an acrobatics check to get by the beast to the body while avoiding the summoning circle.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
The Paladin guards against it's escape from the circle.
Kardas Rasalas
"Unless someone breaks the circle it won't be able to escape, Armithia. But unless one of us can protect us against fire ... well, we can hardly leave it here on our world, right? Armithia, we ought to strike."
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Helm grants me energy resistance, but once per day.
Ishta Khosiv
Ishta lays her hands on Kardas's shoulder, ready to infuse him with battling energy the moment he starts an aggressive move.
Readied Action: use Touched Rage on Kardas when he's about to attack (+2 to hit and damage for one round).
DM Fang Dragon
So you're going to try and kill it? OK. Any preparations? @Azarra, that sounds difficult but not impossible.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia walks near the circle. The Paladin uses Detect Evil on the creature.
I shall cast Energy Resistance Fire on myself. If any of you want to ready yourselves, we shall send this creature back to He'll!
DM Fang Dragon
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia casts his spell.
Shut the door and prepare to banish this evil creature!
Resist Energy fire 10; 50 minutes
Kardas Rasalas
The swordmage inhales deeply, knowing well that he ought to answer yes to Armithia's question. Still, a pang of doubt haunts him. Honor your people! Don't let this Nar-spawn linger on your plane!
"I am ready. We must strike decisively, or else this might turn ugly real soon. Helm, I invoke your name - watch and bless your loyal sword and have him guide us to victory."
The 'please' he added in thought. Surely Helm could hear that as well?
I know it is risky to take on this extra challenge, but it feels right to remove it.
