looks like there might be an alarm system in here. My detect magic isn't picking up any scrolls in the immediate vicinity, but maybe checking the rest of the rooms will find some. A scroll of dispel magic would be mighty handy, and seems like something they would have on hand in this place.

Automatons and constructs can be fearsome foes and if we can avoid one more lethal encounter, I'm all for it. We should check the outer hallway and its outward going corridors."
Was the library upstairs? I mean, technically this is all a library, but you know what I'm saying, ha! If not, we can go east from where we are and start checking the corridors there.

Delenn chews her lip as she concentrates for a while, before suggesting, "Elder Lythiin's private study was to the south west. He had esoteric interests and may well have been a practitioner, perhaps we could try there?" She didn't sound terribly convinced by this idea...

Feeling rather out of his element in the library of arcane knowledge, Zane's lips pursed up in an amused smile at Ishta's uncharacteristic curse. Azarra's wisdom suggesting that there would be a means of removing the magical trap on hand somewhere made sense, and the priest was inclined to agree with Kardas that seeking out such a magic-nullifying item was prudent. When Delenn suggested searching the Elder's chambers, the cleric shrugged, having no better opinion. If no one else objected, the priest would lead them in the direction the elven woman determined.

The party venture south and then east along the grand outer corridor. The mist was ever present which made everything rather eerie, but you could just make out the vaulted 20' high ceiling. The walls where slick, made of polished stone seemingly cut out of the bedrock. So straight where the cuts and entirely absent the normal mark of tools and hammers, it was as if no mortal hands had worked the stone. Perhaps they had been excavated by magic?
Half way along the southern wall your musing were interrupted by a discovery. You find the skeletal decapitated body of a human. The torso legs and arms where there, along with the thin foot-square metal case this unfortunate had been carrying. As for the head there was no sign at all...

Azarra's eyes spot a tell tale rune near the release catch on the shallow rectangular box (which is the right size and shape to hold a large bool). She's convinced it's a magical trap, which Delenn and Ishta quickly confirm.

Phase Spiders!
Azarra shares her knowledge.
Phase spiders are voracious predators from the Ethereal Plane who hunt on the Material Plane. When prey is located, the spider shifts to the Ethereal Plane to prepare an ambush. Against a lone victim, the spider shifts to the Material Plane, bites the victim, then retreats back to the Ethereal Plane to wait for the poison to take effect. Against multiple foes, a phase spider follows these same tactics, and on each round a foe remains in reach at the start of its turn, it repeats this gambit. If no foes are in reach, it moves while ethereal to prepare an attack on an available target, but unless it feels safe in spending an entire round on the Material, it won’t phase back to attack unless it can do so while saving a move action for an escape.
Assuming I can't shoot them, right? They always phase out at the end of their turn, so they are basically ethereal all the time that matters?
Azarra uses Wordstrike on the green spider, yelling at it in Elven. Her words seem strangely imbued with power.

Affected by the venom and the surprise of the sudden attack, Zane strikes wildly with his mace and misses.
They actually hadn't phased out which is sort of my bad, they where supposed to but I forgot :< Anyway that means you get a round of attacks in.
Since Zane missed I'm going to hand of GM say Ser 5' stepped into attack.
Hope that's OK!
Noble Ser Armithia stepped in front of the wounded cleric and had at the arachnid menace with his bastard sword. He noted with grin satisfaction that his blade parted their tough carapace well enough! Agitated the wounded spider hisses and chitters eerily.
Delenn grimaces at the horrid spider in front of her as she raises her wand and whispers the command word. A fat beam of fire leaps out and burns it horribly leaving more of the translucent liquid oozing out. The spider rears back and trills in pain!

Azarra readies another Wordstrike attack, coming up with some particularly stinging Elven insults, ready to hurl them as soon as the spider phases back in.

Taking advantage of the lull, the beleaguered priest reluctantly dropped the link between himself and Ser Armithia, the poison continuing to ripple throughout his body as he broke into a sweat.
Standard to drop Shield Other.

The poison ravages Kardas and Zane causing them to double over with pain and pant, it was as if their blood was on fire. Wisely Zane dropped his link with Ser Armithia.

Like the cowardly predators they are, the spiders don't come back immediately, but then suddenly they phase back in. But before the Watchers of Dawn where ready for them! Azarra welcomed them with some particularly vicious invective, which flecked off more crystalline blood from the one in the corridor. Ser Armithia's sword flashed but he misjudged his stroke, missing by a few inches. Delenn triggered her wand once more, but her aim was also off and the fiery ray missed by several feet.
Ranged touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7Fire Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 4) = 17 <--- MISS
Kardas however was fighting for survival, and despite the pain his sword flashed up and through the spider which keeled over dead.
The other spider lunged at Ser Armithia one more, but the knight was able to block it's fangs with his pauldron and frustrated the spider phased away again.

Zane felt the fire of the poison continuing to spread throughout his body, his face flushing uncomfortably as it coursed through him. Grasping his holy symbol, he mouthed a prayer to Lathander as he continued to try to calm his breathing and fight off the venom.
Use Touch of Good, +2 to most rolls for 1 round.
Fort Save, ToG: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8 Yikes...Lathander's calling Zane home, maybe. LOL

Understanding that she's really bringing nothing at the moment and that the spider has its days already accounted for, Ishta decides to evade bigger damage.
Readying a 5-ft-step action to avoid the spider if it tries to bit her.
