Ser Armithia-Seendren
Source Ultimate Magic pg. 61 (Amazon)
A paladin who takes an oath against demons, devils, daemons, and other evil outsiders is constantly on the lookout for malicious fiendish insurgence into the world, and faces it with swift and unwavering defiance. Often she works closely with inquisitors, searching for signs of outsider manipulation and possession.
Azarra
Azarra attempts to get by the creature and to the body without crossing the summoning circle.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
I placed her as though she succeeded. If she did not, go ahead and dump her in the burning and fiery jaws of the hellcat.
DM Fang Dragon
The scary hellcat continues to pace around the edge of the summoning circle. (now drawn on the map). All the time it stared at Ser Armithia, it was as if it couldn't wait to sink it's teeth into him!
While it's distracted, Azarra manages to deftly jump over the edges and land just beyond. In the corner she finds the desiccated corpse of the librarian, he was an elder man with long flowing white hair.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia bangs his golden bastard sword sharply against his golden Helm-symboled heavy shield.
Intimidate (Cha): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Azarra
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Azarra hastily gathers up the armor and stuffs it in her bag. She then pulls the ring off the librarian's finger, noticing the inscription in the process, and places it on her own so it won't be lost.
That done, she looks around to see if there is anything else in this area worth retrieving before she tries to get back.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
I know I bombed that perception check, but can I at least get a confirmation that this area is a dead end (looks like one on the map), so I know which way to go? :)
Zane Levallis
Zane winced as Azarra made the perilous leap over the circle containing the hell creature, but the wiry half-elven woman made the distance and then appeared to find something preserved and worthwhile on the corpse in the corner. The priest shuffled nervously as Ser Armithia drew the devil-kin's attention with noise, creating a challenge that the beast surely was aware of. In fact, it seemed to anger the Hellcat even more, though the magic circle held. As Azarra looked about, Zane looked up and down the main hall to make sure nothing was sneaking up on them while they were otherwise engaged.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 But apparently was too distracted by thoughts of supple, leaping half-elves.
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas's eyes flicker back and forth between Armithia and the hellcat. The Raumathar isn't quite sure who to watch for both seem eager to get this party started.
No actions other than readying myself for the worst *if* the circle breaks.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
The Paladin does seem eager to do battle with the devil spawn!
DM Fang Dragon
Yes Azarra the current map is a dead end. OK what next?
Ishta Khosiv
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
"So..." Ishta seems to be waiting for Ser Armithia's next move. "We could maybe leave it for later, when the defenses are reset and we don't have a pack of hellhounds pursuing us. Or maybe not, up to you, guys." She hopes the servant of Helm agrees to hold the execution for now.
Zane Levallis
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Derp
Zane also holds out hope that Ser Armithia might forego the immediate banishment of the hellcat, his anxiety at Azarra's predicament and the situation at large making his observation skills less than perfect.
Kardas Rasalas
Perception vs DC 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Kardas would spit at the thing if only he weren't so afraid he might accidentally damage the circle containing it. "I better not regret saying this, but we should leave the hellcat be for now."
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia--reluctantly--steps down.
Azarra
Azarra once again tries to negotiate the summoning circle and get back to her friends.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Wow. That's, um... really bad. Errr... Ser, maybe you don't want to stand down just yet. I seem to have, uh... released the beast? I think?
GM will have to place me, depending on how far I got... with a 1, I am not that hopeful.
Also... dicebot has it in for us. The last 6 dice rolls for the party: 1, 4, 1, 2, 2, 1
DM Fang Dragon
Azarra previously so nimble on her feet, hoped to simply hop past the summoning circle. She knew she could do it, it was only four or five feet, easy days. Unfortunately and as she tried to launch forwards, she stepped on the rotted remains of a book which had long turned to powder. Her boot slipped and went sprawling to the ground, oof!
A heavy landing, but nothing broken, no harm done right? Then she looked down and saw her legs crossing the circle. The room went quiet with a collective intake of breath. The hellcat stopped pacing and froze before turning towards her!
Ishta Khosiv: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Kardas Rasalas: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Ser Armithia-Seendren: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Zane Levallis: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Delenn: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Hellcat: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Delenn Moonbean
Before anyone else could react, Delenn pointed her right fist at the Hellcat and whispered a word. Suddenly a ring on her finger flared and a vaguely discernible shape that resembling the head of a ram smashed into the hellcat's flank, sending it flying towards the wall!
Delenn glanced at the prone form of Azarra and shouted, "For the Seldarine's sake, get out of there!"
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
The hellcat bounced off the wall, snorted and glanced at Azarra, before turning it's fiery and malevolent eyes on Ser Armithia! With a sudden roar like an opened furnace, it darted forwards! Ser Armithia's armor turned aside it's bite and a fore claw, but it's other one grabbed hold of his body and batted him about like a rag doll! It tried to gut him with it's hind legs, but his armor was indomitable. For now.
Pounce!
Bite: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 <--- MISS

Kardas Rasalas
Kardas darts forward and, with every step taken, utters a word of power. Enfeebling magics ensorcell his blade, but will they be strong enough to overwhelm the hellcat's defenses? The question will be answered soon enough as the magus raises his blade and leaps into the fray, fighting like a mad man to free his companion from the hellcat's claws.
Swift action: Arcane Strike.
Std+move action: cast Touch of Fatigue and then move (10ft) and attack once, channeling the spell through his sword. (+2 to damage)
Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage 1: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
DC 12 fortitude save or Red is fatigued for 3 rounds. Can't run or charge, -2 to dex and str (so basically, -1 to hit, damage and AC).
This is a good reminder why one should pick up +spell resistance check feats and traits ;x
Ishta Khosiv
Ishta is caught by surprise, and she reactively does weekday she was about to do before. She puts a hand on Kardas's back and compels him to spill the demon's blood.
Touch of Fatigue, +2 to hit and Damage next round.
Zane Levallis
Ser Armithia, take 3 and I'll take the other 3 from Shield Other
Zane's eyes flew open in alarm as Azarra slipped and fell within the circle, even as Delenn reacted with almost inhuman speed and the freed beast leapt forward to pounce on the holy warrior. Like Kardas, the priest darted forward to help swat down the Hellcat before it could do more harm to the group. Unlike Kardas, he was not very successful.
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
DM Fang Dragon
Ishta did you mean Touch of Rage? Anyway will wait for Azarra and Ser Armithia's posts before resolving this turn.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Pleasantly pleased, the Paladin prays to Helm for this honorable opportunity.
Melee +1 bastard sword, divine bond : 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 1 = 121d10 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
Azarra
I don't know if acrobatics works to move away from a prone position, but it doesn't look like you can withdraw while prone, and crawling provokes, so I am trying acrobatics, just trying to get away far enough so I don't provoke and I can shoot. Let me know if that doesn't work.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
That roll would have been nice *last* round. :)
Ishta Khosiv
Touch of Rage, yes, sorry. Being around Kardas too much, I think xD
DM Fang Dragon
Kardas darts forward but with uncanny speed the hellcat takes a swipe at him, it's razor sharp claws leaving deep scratches in his flank.
AOO (it has reach): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 <--- HIT
Counterattacking, Kardas' blade flashes as it smashes into the skeletal cat, sending chips of bone flying! Yet despite the effort he put behind it, he was disappointing with the results - surely it should have bit deeper?
It has DR.
With an impressive feat of agility, Azarra flips herself up off the floor and backs into the corner away from the Hellcat.
Ser Armithia thanks Helm for the honor of this opponent.
Ser you are grappled and can't attack with your sword.
Oops I forgot about shield other, I guess that's still up.
Zane also darted forwards, but the hellcat batted it's skeletal talons towards him too, leaving deep deep scratches!
AOO (it has reach and combat reflexes): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 <--- HIT
Ishta completes her spell and starts forwards to touch Kardas, urging him on to fight viciously!
I moved you Ishta, because you need touch range to do that.
Delenn frowns at the hellcat before conjuring a volley of miniature missiles which unerringly smash into it causing a series of miniature explosions.
magic Missiles: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 4) + 4 = 15
Like an oversized house cat, the hellcat was playing with its new Ser Armithia shaped chew-toy. It dropped him and then then pounced again, trying to rend his skin from his bones! Unfortunately the hellish feline's claws where long enough to maul him despite the protraction afforded by his armor. Zane felt lines of molten steel burning across his neck and upper body as poor Ser Armithia was savaged! Incoming 13 dmg each.
Bite: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 <--- HIT

Zane gasped in pain as the Hellcat scored a deep gash across him as he moved into position, then nearly doubled over as he felt the thing's wrath against Ser Armithia. It seemed that moving forward had been rather foolish. Raising his holy symbol, he implored upon Lathander to heal the wounds received by himself and his fellows.
Channel Energy to heal: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) = 7 Excluding Hellcat
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas dips to the side and, with the help of Zane's positioning, finds himself in the right spot to unleash a series of hellish blows. "Send it back to the pit! To the pit!"
Full-round action: Spell Combat (cast Touch of Fatigue, concentration DC 15, +1 extra attacks, -2 to hit on all attacks)
Swift action: Arcane Strike (+2 to damage)
5ft step (should trigger a flank with Zane)

Ishta Khosiv
Ishta decides to copy Delenn's idea and send some magic projectiles to do their job once and for all.
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) + 6 = 16
Azarra
Azarra starts to sing.
+2 to saving throws against charm and fear effects and +2 on attack and weapon damage rolls.
DM Fang Dragon
Combining spell and blade, Kardas powers into the Hellcat, his blade a blur! Here and there chunks of bone fly but the damage was less than he'd hoped for.
Azarra starts to sing, putting a spring in your sword arm!
OK then Ser.
Ser tries to bring his sword to bear on the hellcat, but he's getting thrashed about so much that he can't land a blow.
Calling upon the power of Lathander, Zane sends a wave of rose colored healing light to bring succor to the wounded.
Ishta follows suit with Delenn and sends a volley of missiles that smash into the hellcat's flank, fragments of bone and cinders fly out!
Whoops I forgot it has SR.
Delenn SR: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 <--- PASS
Ishta SR: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 <--- PASS
Delenn's forwn deepens and she whispers, "I have but one spell left that can combat it..." She raises here hand and another volley of missiles smashes into the skeletal cat, sending embers flying!
Magic Missiles: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 2) + 4 = 12
Delenn SR: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 <--- PASS
Looking ragged the Hellcat single mindedly attacks Ser Armithia. His armor turns away most of the blows, but one sneaks past. Zane has to grit his teeth as he feels Ser Armithia's neck get mauled once more!

Ser Armithia-Seendren
Ser Armithia doesn't notice the vile creature's claw. The Paladin lifts his bastard sword, plunging it deep into it's neck.
+1 bastard sword, divine bond, inspired: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 1 + 2 = 281d10 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 14
Azarra
So, is it dead, or should I shoot? Assuming it is dead and moving on, but if it isn't, let me know and I will post a shot instead.
Seeing Ser take the hellcat down, Azarra sighs in relief and says
Thank you. I am very sorry for putting you all in danger. The good part is that I found this really, really nice chainmail. Does anyone want to wear it?
(+2 Chainmail)
... Oh, and look at this cool ring I found!
She takes it off and hands it to Ishta to look at.
There is an inscription on it, and I was wondering if you would know who the people it is referring to are, Delenn. It says "My darling Lithian, now you shall fear no heights! M." Any clue?
Zane Levallis
Zane lowered his mace wearily to the floor after the brief fight, exhausted and wounded. He closed his eyes for a moment before he gathered himself and regarded Azarra with a smile. "Good job finding all that...I didn't even notice anything over there." Zane will accept the Chain Mail only if nobody else cares for it.
"If we have a wand of cure left, I think it's best if we use that to heal up. My gifts from the Morninglord are few, and are best left for conflict if needed." The priest of course offered to use the wand on those who couldn't use the device themselves.
[ooc]Not sure if there are any more healing charges floating around, but would rather use those."[/b]
Ishta Khosiv
"It seemed quite fitting that Ser Armithia had the ending blow." Ishta comments. "And Azarra, don't worry. It was nothing you did intentionally."
When given the ring, Ishta reads again the inscription, though nothing comes to min (unless the GM asks for any knowledge roll).
"Do we want to check for its magic right now? The hounds might be very near and this could take some precious time."
DM Fang Dragon
With a well judged thrust, Ser Armithia ends the skeletal hellcat, severing the nexus of hellfire that sustained it and it's bones clatter nosily to the floor!
Delenn Moonbean
Distracted by something you can't sense, Delenn stares down the corridor to the north.
"There is an inscription on it, and I was wondering if you would know who the people it is referring to are, Delenn. It says "My darling Lithian, now you shall fear no heights! M." Any clue?"
Softly Delenn replies, "Lithian was the head librarian. A distant and awkward man at times, but he didn't deserve this." Suddenly she stops a finger to her lips, "Hsst! We must be quiet, the hounds draw near. Do we make our stand here?"
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Stepping smartly towards the chamber entrance and handing off the wand of Cure light wounds to Zane, Ser Armithia immediately places himself at the doorway facing any oncoming hounds.
Kardas Rasalas
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Kardas casually bends down to pick up a few bones and bits that used to belong to the hellcat and puts them away, planning to use them for some foul alchemical concoction. He growls when Delenn speaks and stares down the hallway when he speaks. "I say we do. The alternative is that we roam the halls, possibly get into more trouble and then have those otherworldly dogs jump us."
Azarra
We also have 6 charges left on the wand I was holding because things got mixed up and Ser took them all on his last time. So, everyone heal away. Just make it clear which wand you are using.
If we are making a stand here, then let's all move into better positions, okay? Delenn, come back into the room. Let's let them into the room single file, with all of the big guys to either side and in front of them, blocking them in the hallway and the rest of us back here where we can cast or shoot. Sound good?
I moved everyone, but feel free to change positions... just trying to make the battle easier, not trying to take away anyone's free will.
Ishta Khosiv
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"Alright, then let me prepare for the fight for a second..." Ishta concentrates and reads some pages of her spellbook taking a full round, then puts the book back to her backpack.
She stands there with the rest. "I am ready. I will create a slippery alley for them to pass through."
Used Quick Study to change one of Ishta's spells. Then, as a readied action, when the hounds can be heard close, she will cast Grease on the red area in the map.
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas goes along with Azarra's strategic thinking and takes his position. "A fine plan, Azarra. Let them bark and we'll do the biting."
Kardas only has pure damage spells left for the day and I figure I best save them in the event we need a ton of burst damage. Since Zane is lowest on HP I'll have him heal up first. If time permits Kardas will also take one hit of the magic wand, but I doubt we'll get that much time.
Zane Levallis
CLW on Zane: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW on Zane: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW on Zane: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 16 hp healed
CLW on Ser Armithia: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW on Ser Armithia: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW on Ser Armithia: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 20 hp healed
CLW on Kardas: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Zane took the wand Azarra offered and proceeded to heal most of his and the Paladin's wounds with it, exhausting the remainder of the curative magic in the device. He then used the other CLW wand on Kardas to offer him relief from his wounds. With that, he got into position with the others and readied himself for the conflict.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
Only down 9, so 2 charges on me.
DM Fang Dragon
The baying of hounds grows nearer, and in moments they will be upon you.
You have one round of buffing, should you wish to use it or set up any readied actions.
Zane Levallis
There being little to do except wait at this point, Zane clenched his hand upon the handle of his mace, lifting it above his head and getting ready to try to smash it against the first enemy that came within reach.
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Azarra
Azarra starts singing to bolster everyone's courage.
+2 to saving throws against charm and fear effects and +2 on attack and weapon damage rolls
That should apply to Zane's attack and damage as well, since she starts singing in the buff round. :)
Ishta Khosiv
Other than setting the Grease spell, Ishta is fine.
Kardas Rasalas
Kardas will assume a full defense stance until the hounds hit the party's defensive line.
Ser Armithia-Seendren
The Paladin casts Resist Energy (fire). 50 minutes.
Delenn Moonbean
Delenn nodded, she would stand here with them. She started rummaging through her pack and pulled out an ornate looking bottle. She twisted the cap off it and downed the contents in one with a grimace. Over the next few heartbeats, the worst of her wounds seemed to fade away.
CSW: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3, 6) + 5 = 18
She then pulled out a pair of scrolls and bit her lip as she struggled to keep her composure.
