Kardas Rasalas |

The tanned Raumathar is looking more and more like a Moonsea native as his face takes on ever more intense shades of pale. Every heartbeat feels like his body is having to push something heavy up a hill and Kardas involuntarily bobs up and down.

Zane - you could use a Heal check on yourself to give yourself a +4 bonus to the Fortitude save *if* your Heal check beats the poison's DC.

Azarra |

Azarra sees the party suffering, and especially Zane getting weaker, and she is worried. She doesn't have a healing kit or any antitoxin, so she does the only thing she can think of. She starts singing a song about going through suffering but still triumphing. It also has a nice romance laced through.
Inspire Courage: +2 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +2 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
If it takes more than a round for the spiders to come back she also readies an action with her bow (while still singing):

The poison has run it's course and unless they get bitten again neither Zane or Kardas are in immediate danger. They both feel pretty wretched however.
Perturbed by the death of it's mate, the remaining spider waited for a while before suddenly phasing back in. This time it went for Delenn, an easier and tastier looking target than Ser Armithia! However before it could attack, Azarra managed to swivel on one foot and fire a deadly accurate arrow which vanishes up to the fetching inside the spider's abdomen.
I guess inspire is down so slightly less damage from Azarra. Processioning Ser Armithia and Karda's readied actions is difficult in this situation, you can't both hit because there isn't room. Ser Armithia is first in intuitive so I'll have him move and attack (drawing an AOO) for his readied action.
Spotting the wavering form of the spider as it readied to attack Delenn, Ser Armithia charged in. The spider however reacting instinctively to this new thread suddenly hissed and bit down upon the knight's arm. The wickedly sharp fangs manged to puncture the mail links guarding Ser Armithia's wrist, again injecting venom, leaving a messy bleeding wound!

Ser Armithia's sword flicks out scoring a long slice across the spider's upper torso but the flaring pain in his writs let him know the spider got the better of this exchange.
Holding her nerve when the spider reappeared to loom over her, Delenn points her wand into it's chest and whispers the command word. A ray of red light stabbed out to scorch it, but this didn't deter the spider.

Ishta Khosiv |

Ishta realises Azarra is the best positioned to kill the spider no matter where it appears, thanks to her bow. She puts a hand on her shoulder and whispers "Kill that spider."
+2 to hit and damage for one round, Azarra.

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Ser Armithia stands protector over Delenn; readying to punish the Spider.

Kardas looks like a wicked disease ravaged him from the inside out and he acts accordingly, finding a relatively safe spot in between his companions as his feeble constitution makes everything feel like it is too much.

Zane Levallis |

As the burning in his body finally abated, the priest wanted to slump down to the floor and do nothing else but rest. As the spider reappeared and continued to harass his allies, the cleric realized he'd be no good to them dead. Clutching his holy symbol tightly, he recited a short prayer to the Morninglord, some of the many wounds on his body knitting closed as healing energy washed over him.
CLW (drop Command): 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

No... I'll leave inspire up the whole time. Subtracting 4 rounds of bardic performance and still singing. Keep the bonuses for everyone.
Azarra readies another attack for when the spider phases in.

It's a while before the spider returns and Delenn looks increasingly ill, coughing up blood and nearly fainting. By the time the poison had run it's course she could barely stand and was only semi concious.
Suddenly the spider reappeared hoping to claim it's tasty prize but Azarra was ready and with deadly accuracy she sent a pair of arrows into one of it's eyes piercing it's brain. The spider threshed as it died before curling up into a ball.
Combat over.

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Heal (Wis): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
The Paladin scans Delenn with Deathwatch Eyes.
We may need to retreat to safety. I have no cure for her.

Azarra |

When the spider is dead, Azarra stops singing, grateful that she got it.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
Azarra tells the rest of the party what Delenn is whispering
She says "Lythiin... rumored to have a refuge. Sign of Oghma"
She uses the healing want on Delenn a couple of times:
CLW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 2 = 11
Assuming this because it is con damage, but if she had regular damage, it might have helped?
but it doesn't seem to help. She looks over at Zane and says
Is there anything you can do?

Zane Levallis |

Looking rather haggard himself, but loathe to leave the elven woman for dead despite his misgivings about her motives, Zane inspected her briefly and quickly.
Take 10 on Heal for 22
He looked at Azarra with grave concern. "She's near death. The Morninglord can grant me prayers that could potentially cure the damage the poison has done, but we'd have to rest. Perhaps there is a safe place nearby? Look for a symbol of an unrolled scroll on any of the nearby doors."

Ishta Khosiv |

"I should have foreseen this..." Ishta takes haste in looking for a door with what Zane indicates, in the hopes of finding a nice haven from where to recover, while thinking about the possibilities.

Kardas Rasalas |

"You can't pull one of them fancy ropes out of a pocket dimension, can you, Ishta? Ah, no matter, we'll find this refuge."

Ishta Khosiv |

"Sadly, no" Ishta answers, not sure if that's a joke or not - not that she usually gets Kardas' jokes anyway. "I can pull my spell book, though."

DM Fang Dragon |

Azarras's spell cures some of the awful infected looking bite marks that mar Delenn's otherwise perfect skin. She doesn't regain consciousness however and her breath is still awfully shallow and fast.
OK so you've yet to explore Lythiin's study which is to the west, and there are three large rooms that are also unexplored.

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Our resources are low and our npc is down Is retreating to safety an option? My weekly SFS game is tonight.

DM Fang Dragon |

As far as you're aware the exit above is blocked. Still maybe you can find this refuge Delenn mentioned.

Kardas Rasalas |

"Do we have any stealth resources left like, say, a potion of invisibility? We need to make sure that the study Delenn mentioned is clear. Having a moment of respite is what we need or else ..." He refuses to say it. "Well, do we?"

Azarra |

Azarra goes and looks through the door to the west, looking at everything, but especially alert for the unrolled scroll that Zane said to look for, assuming that is the sign of Oghma that Delenn mentioned.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Wait, is this the place where there was that maybe-still-active golem?
As she is looking, she hears Kardas' question and responds:
Uh... I can cast invisibility. Do you want me to cast it on you?

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Nice, Kardas.
Ser Armithia guards Azarra as she searches.

Zane Levallis |

Zane refused to give up hope, squaring his shoulders even as his body yearned for rest to recover from all the terrible, lingering injuries he had sustained. Looking at Delenn's shallowly-breathing form, the priest steeled himself and stood by Azarra as she explored the closest western door, looking about for the sign of Oghma. Hopefully the elf's words weren't the scrambled speech of the near-dead.
That would certainly be useful, for sure. This seems like a 'you should have your armor on' kind of place.

Kardas Rasalas |

"Sure, I suppose I can go have a look. Can't say I'm the quietest person in all of Faerun, but I will do my best."
Is everyone good with this plan/approach?

DM Fang Dragon |

It was initially difficult to tell due to all the dust and the gigantic spiderwebs but Lythiin's once richly appointed study appears to have been ransacked. The mahogany bookshelves are bare and there are suspicious cuts in the wood and rents in the floor that suggest a fight. Adding to this impression are several smashed up chairs and a broken table.

Azarra |

Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
So, not the golem place?
Azarra casts invisibility on Kardas, as requested.
Then she casts Detect Magic, to see if she can spot anything in the ruins of this room that might be valuable.

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
The Paladin scans the room with Detect Evil.

Ishta Khosiv |

Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Casting Detect Magic together with Azarra, Ishta hopes to cover the whole room in half the time.

Zane Levallis |

Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15Boooo
Seeing that the room appeared empty, Zane looked at the door leading into the ransacked apartment, trying to figure out how it could be barricaded so the group could possibly rest and recuperate in the area. Such a reprieve seemed unlikely, but going back wasn't an option, and going forward would likely result in death for at least some of the group. Although he followed Lathander and offered his complete devotion to the Morninglord, Zane did silently ask Tymora for a bit of extra luck.

Kardas Rasalas |

The swordmage eyes the damage done to the room and sighs. "Seems this place didn't escape whatever initially befell this place."
Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Sorry Azarra the inactive robot thing is behind door D. Note the door to the study where you currently are is undamaged. While it wouldn't help vs phase spiders it's quite sturdy.

Ishta Khosiv |

Ishta informs the rest that the room seems protected against the spiders. "Or any other magical intrusions, for what I see. Shall we rest here?"

Azarra |

No worries. I just am losing my mind and forgetting everything. It's okay. :)
Nice job, Ishta. Good idea. Let's get this door shut and barricaded and maybe we can all get some needed rest.

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Ser Armithia helps to secure the chamber as best he is able.

Ishta Khosiv |

"Alright, let me check one last thing..."
Ishta produces her spellbound and studies it for a pair of minutes, ending with the loudly spoken words of an incantation.
Ishta uses her last Reservoir point to change her last remaining prepared spell to Detect Secret Doors, then she casts it.

DM Fang Dragon |

Ishta Khosiv |

"Azarra" Ishta says, pointing at the bookcase, "there's a hidden button there which opens a secret door. Can you check it for traps?"

DM Fang Dragon |

Azarra |

Good catch Ishta. Yeah, let me take a look.
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
Oh, this is a password protected one. Kind of dangerous. Everyone stand back, and I'll see if I can disable it.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Azarra, trying not to let on how close she came to muffing it, says cheerfully
There we go, it's disabled.
Only the most perceptive among the party can tell that her voice was shaking just a little bit.
Should we open it, or get some rest first?

Ishta Khosiv |

"I'd say open it, maybe we find a bed" Ishta jokes. "No, really. I vote for opening it, the itch won't make me sleep."

Zane Levallis |

"Opening it seems prudent. I'd hate to bed down, only to have something creep out of that door and...let's just open it." He eyed Azarra with worry as he noted the lack of surety in her voice as she announced her success with whatever glyph was warding the portal, but the only way to be sure would be to open it. Instinctively he gathered up Delenn and took her as far away from the door as he could, in case things got ugly.

Kardas Rasalas |

Kardas growls as he looks up and considers whether or not that up there, they'll find refuge. "There better not be a basilisk hiding up there ..."

DM Fang Dragon |

The button is pressed and you hear a series of clockwork clacks and whirrs followed by a grating noise from above. Suddenly you see a trap door open revealing a large spherical chamber above which looks to be about 20 feet in diameter.
Climbing up looks to be somewhat challenging since the ceilings are very high in this room, but then as you discuss what to do some secondary mechanism releases a rope ladder which allows you to climb up. Inside the chamber seems to be made of made of ashen soapstone and a small control panel seems to allow you to retract the ladder with a small windlass and close the trap door, leaving a perfect sphere. Dimly illuminated within the center of the sphere is the floating symbol of Ohgma, an unfurled scroll. The sphere exudes a sense of quietude and reverence which suggests this place is still consecrated.

Auto fail on Kn Religion for being untrained.
"Cool, seems like a sanctasanctorum or something similar. Maybe a place from where to experiment or prepare spells without being disturbed" Ishta ventures. "It will serve us well to rest unmolested."
Unless anyone says otherwise, Ishta will get ready for bed.

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Knowledge (religion) (Int): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
The Paladin quietly informs the group of his knowledge.
Kneeling in the center of the chamber, Ser Armithia offers a prayer to Ohgma.
We thank theme for your much needed hospitality!
The Paladin will stand watch.

Zane Levallis |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Zane helped the others get Delenn up into the chamber above, only relaxing when everyone is through the portal and the chamber was shut. The cleric nearly collapsed at that point, offering a short thanks to Oghma for the gift of the sanctuary before falling to his knees, eyes closed, conversing on a private level with the Morninglord. As Ser Armithia had volunteered to stand guard, the cleric hurriedly unrolled his bedroll and removed his armor, the aches and pains of the day washing over him. He felt...drained. Hopefully Lathander would show favor to him and grant him the power to remove some of that fatigue and malaise.
Zane did offer a smile and a 'good night' to his other companions, somehow managing to snag a spot close to Azarra before falling into a deep, restful sleep almost immediately.

Kardas Rasalas |

Kardas takes the time to stretch his muscles before ascending the ladder. Cramped spaces aren't exactly his favorite, but Oghma's sphere has his preference over staying in this room where only the Gods know what might visit him in his sleep.
With Zane out of his armor and already asleep by the time he gets up the ladder, Kardas unrolls a scroll and unleashes its transmutation magics on Armithia. The words of power cause his armor to feel like he's wearing a suit of feathers - nice and comfy, with no pressure whatsoever on his shoulders and lower back. "Do try to catch some sleep somewhere."
Unlike perhaps Armithia, Kardas needs no motivation whatsoever to make the journey to dreamland. Like Zane, his body is aching for rest. Lots and lots of rest.

Azarra |

Azarra also tells Ser to get some sleep. Probably if you just sleep over the trap door, we'll be fine. That way, no one could come up here without waking you.
She sleeps well, knowing Zane is nearby.

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

The Paladin smiles at his friends as they bed down. He stands watch throughout the time there.

DM Fang Dragon |

With the study door locked and the trap door pulled up, the refuge seems really quite secure. You did hear another pack of hounds scrabbling at the door but they seemed to loose your scent and went elsewhere in search of you.
Apart from that the night passes uneventfully although it seems some of you had strange dreams.
