Sabrina, Erastil's Ward |

Level 3 Cleric of Erastil
HP: 5+1 or 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
New rule, Havrin rolls for everyones HP!
+2 knowledge religion - Her father's lessons are starting to make since now that she has had a chance to experience a taste of what it means to be part of a community.
+1 spellcraft - Sabrina is starting to better understand magic and how to make it work for her
edit: Opps I owe myself a favored class bonus and feat selection... ill update once I decide the details on that.

Katya Volkv |

Rolling for HP: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Character has been updated for level 3 in her statblock. Upped all her skills by +1 and took Scorching Ray and Summon Monster II for her spells. Figured the fire spell training would lead her towards a bit more evocation spells. :)

I updated the calendar on the Campaign Info tab.

I hope you don't mind me sharing this here. I've been working on alternate alignment rules and since I've been playing with you all for awhile I trust you to give good feedback.

Interesting. I need to think about that when I have some time; I like the overall idea, but I want to give it more consideration. I'm reminded of the piety band concept from--what was that system called? One hardcover book, regular hc format? It was something really generic-sounding, like Fantasy Roleplay, came out in the early 1980s, and as far as I remember it was virtually unplayable as a complete system. Bits of it were excellent, though.

DM Carbide |

I've been mostly afk for the past few days, but after today I'll be back at it. (Except for the exercise time to work off all of the goodies we made...I did a lot of cooking.)

DM Carbide |

I'm going to be at a con this weekend, and am not sure how much access I'll have. (Haven't checked if hotel internet is free.)

DM Carbide |

I'll do more posting tomorrow. We're having some people over later today, so I'm making a ton of food. (If any of you are near Joliet IL between 4 and 10, stop by; jambalaya, red beans & rice, macquechoux, polish sausage & sauerkraut, Chinese dumplings, vegetable lo mein, and desserts. Location available on request.)

DM Carbide |

I was in Champaign over the weekend for Winter War, but I think that still leaves Joliet a few hours away. :P
How was Winter War?
Things were frozen down here in southwestern Virginia over the weekend. That jambalya sure sounded good, though!
It was. Unfortunately about a third of the people who said they'd be there had to cancel at the last minute, so we're going to be eating leftovers for a while. (OTOH, they're good leftovers. If I do say so myself.)

Jacyn Frestarn |

Winter War was pretty awesome actually, aside from the threat of freezing rain potentially trapping us in the city for another day. Thanksfully that didnt happen, so we made it home shortly after midnight last night.
My wife and I played through The Cultist's Kiss, Feast of Sigils (which almost got my Cleric killed), and The Devil We Know 4. I GM'ed a session of Severing Ties on Friday night, and two sessions of The Disappeared, once on Saturday and once on Sunday. That brought me to 80 tables GMed. If I am doing my math right, I think I should have my 4th star by Gencon this year. :D
@ Havrin, I hope you guys arent too stranded with the cold. D:

Katya Volkv |

*Contemplates becoming the hammiest of the large hams and starting a drama war with Bea*
hhmmm... choices.

DM Carbide |

Sorry about not posting sooner; in meetings much of the day, and I'm fighting off a cold.

Jacyn Frestarn |

Mwk Cold Iron Longsword costs 620gp, so we would get 315gp for selling it. Everyone gets an equal share (my share being the sword itself), meaning I owe the rest of you 52.5gp, I think.
I have 26 platinum om me (plus a bit more in various forms), a CLW potion, a cold iron morningstar, and that cloak of resistance +1 we found, if anyone wanted anything other than cash.
TBH, I feel a little bad about taking the sword as I'm already wearing the cloak and I feel like those are the two biggest pieces of treasure we have found so far. I'd be more than willing to just re-donate the cloak to the party to pay for the sword, and we could refigure amounts from there.
Also, I realize this is a medium-track exp AP, but it seems like we are finding very little in the way of treasure. Makes me wonder if there just isnt that much, or if we have been missing stuff, lol.

Jacyn Frestarn |

Forgot about those, but I figured those were mostly for helping settle the area than for party loot. Perhaps this is more of a 'craft your own' kind of adventure though. I guess that would make sense, considering the whole idea of the AP is to found a kingdom. :P

Jacyn Frestarn |

I know we havent discussed it, but has anyone taken any kind of thought into what position within the kingdom they might like to heard towards? I know the point is that we would all assume a role within the kingdom heirarchy at some point, so I'm just curious if you guys are intending on one specific role or what.
Personally, I dont know what I would want Jacyn to end up as, though it will likely be something Martial-ly related. I'm fine with whatever, but I think he is in the middle of a transition period right now, and Im enjoying that too much to try to peg him into a hole at this point.

Katya Volkv |

Obviously Katya will be Queen, being of noble birth and all. :p
No... heh, most likely Katya would fit in as Councillor or Magister. As for the loot and such, I don't usually think about a few gold pieces here and there. The usefulness of an item to the party is more important from a meta standpoint. Though the talking of treasure does bring up something that I've been considering. Once we do reach the appropriate level and point in the story, I was thinking of taking Leadership for Katya, obviously her Charisma is abysmal but I really saw it as taking on an apprentice... who just so happens to absolutely love crafting stuff. A magical artificer of sorts. Obviously Carbide has final say over that since I know many DMs despise the Leadership feat, but I don't plan on taking my apprentice into battle or anything like that. I imagine him/her as kind of a bookworm type. Anyway, stuff to think of in the far off future. :)

Bea |

I've been reluctant to bring it up because I don't want to just assume that everyone would be ok with it, but I think Beatrix is eventually the likely candidate for Queen. She's been confronting her demons, and by the time such a thing is possible, she'll pretty much be over her...outbursts. Although in game, I'm pretty sure she'll never ask for the position, so someone else would have to suggest her. That might be a fun bit of role-play.
Also, Katya I hope you know I love your character as a foil to Beatrix's new-found piety. They're so wonderfully at odds - I look forward to seeing if they'll be able to ever reconcile their differences on that point. Either way it adds some great tension and drama in the group. And what's a good story without some conflict?

DM Carbide |

Bea's got the name for it, at least. Though then she'd eventually have to abdicate in favor of her son....

Havrin Stahl |

I like the thought of Bea as eventual Queen.
As far as a rulership role for Havrin goes, I picture him fitting best as either Marshal or Warden.
I agree that Adam would make a great Spymaster or Treasurer, and Katya would be a great Magister or Councilor. Sabrina would be perfect for High Priestess, and Jacy would be a great General or Warden.

DM Carbide |

I was on jury duty all day yesterday; even though all the cases settled, I was still stuck in the waiting room with no smartphone. More to come in the gameplay thread as I have time.

Jacyn Frestarn |

I could definitely see Jacyn becoming General. I'm currently leaning towards taking a few levels of Bard and going into the Battle Herald PrC, which I think fits a General pretty well.
Since we are talking about it, like Katya, I have also considered taking Leadership, especially if I am going to become General. I'd be willing to leave the cohort/followers up to your discretion Carbide, but I figured they would be some of the military officers under me, and would be the ones left at home to guard the kingdom, while we are out doing our own thing. :P

Adam Burlevogne |

I will probably also be taking Leadership at some point, and I might even do so by becoming 8th level cleric (grants me +2 to score, and the feat for free). How is a treasurer supposed to treasure without an army of tax collectors, or a spymaster supposed to gather information without some underlings about? Of course, this depends on the needs of the AP as well. I may not be able to get up to 8th level as cleric, and will probably try to stay with Bard since that fits the original concept.

Katya Volkv |

Another concept that crossed my mind while thinking of the future is how this group would want to handle relationships. Obviously creating a kingdom means creating houses and dynasties. Is that something we want to get into or should it be brushed to the side? Purely as an example, I could see Jacyn and/or Beatrix becoming Katya's way of reconciling her hatred of Erastil which could develop into trust followed by something more. As I said, just an example, but I do think it would be fun to explore the possibilities. Obviously the topic wouldn't be limited to possibilities between players but would include NPCs too. Just food for thought. So, what does everybody else think?

Jacyn Frestarn |

I dont think it's something that needs to be brushed aside necessarily, though I dont think it should be forced either. I think we should just allow things to play out naturally. I would assume we are all mature enough that this kind of thing isnt an unbroachable subject.

Bea |

I've considered relationships while playing so far, and have planted a few seeds with several of the characters that depending on how it plays out could potentially turn into a relationship (sorry, Adam - I don't see you in the cards though). I'm perfectly open to the possibility if someone wants to try and court Bea. She's a bit older than Havrin and I'm actually not sure how old Jacyn is but either of them would be obvious candidates.
I agree though, it shouldn't be forced. These things take time, and I'm fine playing it out and seeing where it leads. That doesn't mean our characters can't have long-term goals though, and working towards those goals is just fine.

Jacyn Frestarn |

I never actually put any thought into how old Jacyn might be. Either that, or I forgot, lol. I figure he is probably in his mid-to-late twenties; I think that fits his backstory a bit better than making him someone who might have just recently left his parents home. :/
How old are Adam, Katya, and Sabrina supposed to be? I was thinking Sabrina was about 15 and Katya was closer to 30, but that's likely just cause of the avatar used. Seems more regal than the rest of ours, lol.

DM Carbide |

All of your thoughts on using the Leadership feat seem reasonable and not too gamebreaking...though as always I reserve the right to remove something that turns out to be unbalancing.
