Ok, Im just going to be blunt about this, but please no one take this personally.
This once a weekish posting we have going on is driving me up the wall. Its not the fault of any one person, it started back with the first GM we had and seems to have continued since.
Is there any way we can get back to something closer to once a day posting so we can move the story along?

Katya Volkv |

I am sorry I have not been posting regularly. I am still attempting to find my fit with the RP so far and reading up on the previous adventures. I will attempt to post once a day from now on.

Thanks for the poke. I've been trying to work on that--is the pace improving?

DM Carbide |

Having work in the first place is no bad thing, these days.
A few other matters: Katya, I'll try to respond to your posts within a day or less. The party still has a bit to do before they get back to Oleg's, I think, so we'll have some time yet. I hope you're enjoying it so far--I am.
Havrin, in the interest of moving things along, if I haven't heard from you by late tomorrow morning (I'm at GMT + 6, IIRC) I'll take your action that round for you. As a general question for everyone, also in the interest of moving things along, are you all OK with me rolling saves for you if you haven't posted for a bit? We've already discussed things like Perception checks, but I'd rather be up front about it.
Finally, Jacyn--speaking of really slow games, Black Fang resurfaced. He'd moved and lost Internet access rather earlier than he expected to, so was unexpectedly unable to post anything for a few weeks. Two-thirds of the party hasn't checked in yet; do you want to get back in touch with him?

DM Carbide |

I'll be out of town most of this weekend, although I should have Internet access part of the time. So don't expect dissertations.

I'm all for anything you can do to speed up gameplay. If that means you roll saving throws, knowledge checks, or any other skill checks for that matter, go for it.
It keeps it rather realistic anyways. If you roll a knowledge check for me, for instance, if I succeed you tell me whatever I know. If I fail, you don't tell me, but I don't know that there's something I don't know. Keeps it real.

DM Carbide |

I had a link in my profile, but this is way easier.

![]() |

Carbide - thank you so much for indulging that bit of RP (and not for killing me while it happened). Honestly your response playing off my actions was brilliant - don't know how you possibly could've made that any better.
This is where the nicely fleshed out back story and really thinking about the characters' motivations pays off by completely changing the game and bringing the story alive.
Thank you.
To the rest of the players - thanks for indulging and playing along. I imagine the drama will taper off soon enough as Bea deals with her inner demons.

Jacyn Frestarn |

I dont remember if we discussed it, so how do you want us to do HP? Roll? Half die? Half die + 1?
Jacyn, Cavalier of the Order of the Dragon 2
HP 1d10 ⇒ 2 +1 Con +1 FC, so 6+1+1=8
BAB +1
Fort +1
+1 Skill point into: Bluff, Climb, Ride, Sense Motive
Aid Allies: When Jacyn uses the Aid Another action, it grants +3 instead of +2.
Smoke:
HP 1d8 ⇒ 5 +2 Con
BAB +1
Will +1
+1 Skill point in Stealth
Feat: Power Attack
Also, are we at 2000 exp then?
Edit: Also, I corrected a couple of mistakes on my sheet, and noticed that I was reading the bonus my Order gives to my Challenge wrong. I dont get a bonus to hit the target, my allies get a bonus to melee attack rolls vs my target if Im threatening it. I'll make sure to post the bonus on there when it comes up.

DM Carbide |

Count, glad you enjoyed that. I spent a bit of time working over the response. Which is one of the advantages of PbP--time to do that, because I wouldn't have done as well off the cuff. (It didn't help that when I rolled the encounter I didn't think through how it would affect the PTSD paladin to be attacked by her god's totem animal....)
On another topic, hit points for second level. Roll them here, and if you roll below average take the average (rounding up).
ETA: Sorry, writing post at work and was interrupted by someone wanting me to actually do some work, so I crossposted with Jacyn. Yes, you're at 2000 xp.

Adam Burlevogne |

1d8 ⇒ 6 for hitpoints
+1 Base Atk
---
+1 Will, +1 Reflex
---
+8 skillpoints, +1 favored
Appraise +2
Diplomacy +1
Sense Motive +1
Profession (Gambler) +2
Perform +1
Knowledge (Local) +1
Perception +1
---
Versatile Performance
Well Versed
---
Moment of Greatness
Mage Hand

Taking 2nd level of ranger.
Rolling for hp: 1d10 - taking average of 5. With Con bonus and favored class bonus equals total of +7 hp.
+1 BAB
+1 Fort and Reflex
Combat Style Feat: Precise Shot
+7 Skill points to allocate
Average HP for 1d10 is 5.5, which is usually rounded up to 6. At least that's how it works in PFS, I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That's how I meant it, yes.

** spoiler omitted **
I think unless you have something specific in mind (which it sounds like you do), I'll plan on just waiting for a moment when I would want to use the ability and play it out as described above, without actually stating I'm using lay on hands. You could then say that some magical affect occurs or whatever - or if you're not ready for it yet then just nothing would happen.
If you've got something else in mind, I'll just stay tuned and play by ear.

I thought this would be an appropriate place to share this quote from "Les Miserables," by Victor Hugo:
"Do not forget, never forget, that you have promised to use this money in becoming an honest man."
Jean Valjean, who had no recollection of ever having promised anything, remained speechless. The Bishop had emphasized the words when he uttered them. He resumed with solemnity:--"Jean Valjean, my brother, you no longer belong to evil, but to good. It is your soul that I buy from you; I withdraw it from black thoughts and the spirit of perdition, and I give it to God."

Katya, I hope you'll forgive the little joke at your expense. At the very least, it and the responses so far do a good job of illustrating the group dynamic and the juxtoposition of a bunch of allies who have been to the edge of death and back together and you, an outsider. I look forward to seeing how well we can play out overcoming that and bringing you into the "clique".

Jacyn Frestarn |

Did we manage to keep that small shield with the Surtovan insignia on it? I remember seeing it in the pile. But don't remember the chieftain giving it to us.
I found the list. I think this was everything. Mind giving us a total for non-goods type items?
The treasure heap contains, at a quick estimate,
a lot of quartz and mica,
several thousand coppers,
well over a thousand silvers,
a few hundred gold,
a light metal shield of decent craftsmanship with the Surtova arms on it,
a case of seven crossbow bolts,
a pair of boots,
and a soiled leather bag. The bag in turn contains more coinage, a small pouch of dust, and a plain brass wedding ring set with a single pearl.
Wand of Magic Missile (CL 3rd, 26 charges)
a well-made(Masterwork?) sickle with faint mottled banding in the metal,
Bracers of Armor +1?
Cloak of Resistence
Scoll of Fly (CL 6th)
Figured we could move this conversation here since it likely would have taken place in the few days we skipped over.

DM Carbide |

The only things the chief gave you, IIRC, were the items that Tartuk was carrying and Svetlana's ring. Tartuk had his diary, the scroll of fly, a masterwork cold iron sickle, the wand, the bracers, and the cloak.

![]() |

Doh! I must have misread it the first time through. Very dastardly of you to show us a nice big pile of coin that we dont get to keep, lol.
Anyway:
Wand of Magic Missile (CL 3rd, 26 charges)
Masterwork Cold Iron Sickle
Bracers of Armor +1?
Cloak of Resistence
Scoll of Fly (CL 6th)
Anyone have a desire for a particular piece of the gear we got, or do we want to sell it all and split the gold or what? Thoughts?

DM Carbide |

You can get a breastplate, yes. (He started going after adventuring gear after you folks defeated Happs and the first four bandits.)

Jacyn Frestarn |

So I got bored at work and looked up what the stuff is worth (buying price):
Cloak of Res +1: 1000
Bracers of Armor +1: 1000
Mwk Cold Iron Sickle: 612 (I think. Cold Iron says its costs twice as much as the regular version, so I doubled the mwk cost as well)
Wand of Magic Missile (CL 3rd, 26 charges): 1170
Scroll of Fly (CL 6th): 450
If we sold it all and everyone took equal gp (including Katya, obviously) itll give each person 352.66gp, though since every bit of that gear costs more than that, it might be a better idea for us to keep and split it.
Im not wanting the Bracers, so Im fine with Katya taking them, though I would like to point out that the +1 armor bonus it grants wont stack with the Mage Armor spell (which I assume she would have gotten from Retsiji, if she doesnt already have it), since they both grant generic magical armor bonuses.
Im still trying to figure out what I might want to upgrade in my gear with the 250 from Oleg.

Awesome, I'll use 200gp worth of my share of goods on that.
I still think someone should hold on to the cloak and use it, but aside from the bracers we could probably sell the rest of it.

DM Carbide |

You may want to hang onto the wand, though--give Katya another tactical option, and there's always the possibility you could run into an incorporeal foe.

Oh, right, I meant that too. I kinda just lumped all the "wizard stuff" together in my mind. Hold on to that. Ok what I really meant to say is "Sell the sickle."
I'll sell my scale armor to Oleg for 25gp.

Adam Burlevogne |

I did snatch up some coins and gems from the pile, though. :) I just said a handful, so didn't really indicate how much. I would probably have gone for gold over silver or copper though. Quartz can be pretty. :)
We also grabbed up some treasure from the mite's lair, too.

Max Hellspont |

With respect to the masterwork cold iron sickle - since it was Tartuk's, is it sized for a kobold (size Small)? If so, it might be useful for either Adam or Simn. If it's sized for a Medium person, then Havrin wouldn't mind holding onto it. Also, the cost for a cold iron weapon does not double the masterwork cost, only the base price for the weapon - so the sickle's value is 312 gp.
Agree with Count Buggula that someone in the group should keep the Cloak of Resistance +1.

Jacyn Frestarn |

After Adam's reminder of the mite lair, I went back through, and found we forgot about Kressle as well. so, the list is up to:
Kobold Lair:
Cloak of Res +1: 1000
Bracers of Armor +1: 1000
Small(?) Mwk Cold Iron Sickle: 312
Wand of Magic Missile (CL 3rd, 26 charges): 1170
Scroll of Fly (CL 6th): 450
Adam's fistful of coins ????
Mite Lair:
Sack of coin that was with the statue: ????
Kressle:
sack of coin that I gave to Simn to hold: ????
Potion of ?? ????
2x Masterwork handaxe 612
Mwasterwork Chain Shirt 250
Oleg gave us a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds.
Mind filling in those ?'s for us, DMCarbide?
So, Katya takes (if she even wants) the bracers, scroll of Fly, and wand of Magic Missile? Adam or Simn take the sickle? Bea/Havrin/Jacyn takes the cloak (medium sized and assuming Katya takes the other stuff)? Sell Kressle's gear, except for the potion, which goes to whoever, and split the coinage?

Why don't you go ahead and take the cloak - your saves are the lowest between the three of us. I'm fine with selling the rest of Kressle's stuff.

DM Carbide |

Did anyone want Kressle's mw chain shirt?
Retsiji identified Kressle's potion before he left--it's a cure moderate wounds potion, third level. Adam got twenty gold and a small gem worth another fifty.
The bag from the mites contained 241 cp, 140 sp, and 45 gp. Kressle had 15 gp and 10 pp.
Sorry I didn't get this up earlier; work was nuts this afternoon, and then I spent about four hours cooking at home. (Four meat pies, plus extra filling. Turned out just fine.)

Havrin Stahl |

If no one objects, Havrin will take Kressle's masterwork chain shirt. Havrin will still use 60 gp of his 250 gp credit from Oleg to purchase a masterwork backpack and compass. He'll use the remaining 190 gp credit along with some of his share of the 1800 gp from the Swordlords (assume we're dividing that 5 ways, for 360 gp each?) to purchase a heavy combat-trained horse and associated gear:
Heavy Horse (combat-trained): 300 gp
Bit and Bridle: 2 gp
Military Saddle: 20 gp
Blanket: 5 sp
Saddlebags: 4 gp
Feed, 4 days: 2 sp
Leather Barding: 40 gp
Total Expense: 366 gp, 7 sp; minus 190 gp credit = 176 gp, 7 sp
Leaving 183 gp, 3 sp
If possible, Havrin will also sell his leather armor and longbow to Oleg; assuming the items can be sold for 50% of purchase price, that will net Havrin an additional 42 gp, 5 sp.
