Sabrina's player hasn't posted anything to the boards since February, I think. I sent a PM; hope they haven't vanished for good. I like the character, too.

Jacyn Frestarn |

So this is probably going to sound weird, but someone by the name of Jason Wallace posted on the Facebook wall of the owner of my flgs, where I organize Pathfinder Society events. In the post, he said he had run into a guy by the name of Jacyn Frestarn (and I didnt take this name from anywhere) and said that the flgs owner owed Jacyn some money from a game they had played in together.
Jason, if you see this, I do not know if you were referring to me or not, but if so I do not appreciate you telling Scott he owes me anything. Please stop.

DM Carbide |

No reply to the PM I sent last week. I'll bot the character through this fight and the return to the trading post, and we'll see what happens then.

So I just realized that the troll has been making multiple attacks with its AoO, when it should only get one.
An attack of opportunity is a single melee attack, and most characters can only make one per round...If you have the Combat Reflexes feat, you can add your Dexterity modifier to the number of attacks of opportunity you can make in a round. This feat does not let you make more than one attack for a given opportunity, but if the same opponent provokes two attacks of opportunity from you, you could make two separate attacks of opportunity (since each one represents a different opportunity).
A character who can make more than one attack per round must use the full-attack action (see Full-Round Actions) in order to get more than one attack.
I recognize that this isn't the most clear rules issue in the world, as I was doing it wrong in my home game as well, and a quick search shows that many others are confused too.
I also recognize that as the GM, it's ultimately your call, but that would have some pretty drastic consequences on the lives of both the elemental and Beatrix.

![]() |

Also, pretty sure the troll should have taken damage from attacking the elemental:
Creatures that hit a burning creature with natural weapons or unarmed attacks take fire damage as though hit by the burning creature and must make a Reflex save to avoid catching on fire (see Burn universal monster ability for complete details.)

DM Carbide |

As it happened, I'd gone looking for something like that wrt hitting the elemental, and there's nothing about it in the monster description in the PRD. (d20pfsrd is blocked at work again.) It's at the end of the linked burn special attack description, true, but I'd characterize that as a defensive ability. It just seems odd to me that they wouldn't at least mention it under Defense.
Re the AoO, you're right. I think it arguably makes the troll a much weaker opponent--with the damage you'll do this round I think you'll take it down, and that seems inconsistent with this being a APL+1 encounter. Of course, as I've noted before you folks do punch above your weight class.
I'll redo the actions later today; have to run off and do some real work, and when I get back I think I'm finally supposed to get my new computer.

![]() |

Thanks. I don't think the APL+1 is too far off - I mean that's not supposed to be an epic overpowering encounter, and it did require us to expend a significant amount of daily resources such as my only smite evil for the day, Katya's spell, Adam's bard performance, Jacyn's challenge, etc. From what I understand of the meta game purpose of daily encounters, that seems spot on. Also, Bea got lucky doing almost max damage on her attack. That doesn't happen all the time.

DM Carbide |

That's an issue with the operational tempo of the AP that's been pointed out before; you get one APL+1 encounter for the day, and can nova on it and not worry about keeping your powder dry for the next attack.

DM Carbide |

I finally heard back from illuminar, and a surfeit of Real Life is going to keep Sabrina from returning. Count, want to work on Oladon?

DM Carbide |

Not for a bit yet. Since you last leveled you haven't fought all that much, really.

DM Carbide |

Jacyn, how was Egypt Wars?

Jacyn Frestarn |

We have 7 slots during the con, plus I arranged for some Slot 0 stuff at our regular game store and some Midnight Madness games at a local Interfaith Center. I scheduled 50 tables over the 7 slots, and it looked like we would have enough for 5 tables between Slot0 and MM, and we finished with 52 tables on the books.
We were offering Ruins of Bonekeep, Level 1- The Silent Grave, which you HAVE to have at least 50 tables to offer, so I was cutting it chose (hence the Slot 0 and MM to give me a buffer). I wasnt sure if we would actually get there, but thanks to a lot of help from my GMs and several St Louis GMs and players in attendance helping out, we managed to get it done.
3 years ago, a couple guys came over from Cape Giarardeau, MO to run a table.
2 years ago, we had 11 tables?
Last year we had 28.
This year 52, putting us on par with FlatCon and Winter War (both organized by my VC) as one of the biggest PFS conventions in the state.
The con had a total of about 145 tables worth of games go off during the 7 slots, so we were a full third of that. Im pretty happy about it.
Now, I just gotta report all those sessions, and finish my prep work for this weekend at Cape Comic Con. :P

Jacyn Frestarn |

1. Did we find anything else while we were out there? I feel like we (or at least I, lol) should be taking better notes of this stuff.
2. Jacyn will sell his regular longsword back to Oleg (7.5gp), adding 5sp from his own, and give 2gp to Havrin, Sabrina, Bea, and Adam...unless you guys are wanting to sell the masterwork cold iron longsword, in which case I'll keep my regular one, lol.[/ooc]

Jacyn Frestarn |

07/30/2012: There are a few silver and copper pieces among the fallen, totaling 10 gp. Each of the four bodies found is in studded leather (sometimes rather the worse for wear), and as noted above they carried shortswords and longbows. None of the arms or armor are masterwork. There are a couple of sacks of pelts, total worth 20 gp. Adam, as you're looking over things you notice that although three had their weapons drawn (at least, their shortswords were on the ground near them, instead of in their sheathes), there is no blood on any of the swords.
10/3/2012: Enough berries for Bokken's request of Katya
11/6/2012: 20gp in mixed coinage from bandits
01/04-05/2013: scale armor ([i]detects[/] as faint abjuration magic), 38 Brevic gp, 100 Brevic sp, 6x 10gp silver ingots, good quality pewter drinking stein, silver ring, jade plaque carved with the image of a nude male elf with a curved sword, watertight scroll tube (containing map), mwk cold iron longsword
4/10/2013: 85gp and change on the trader that was killed by the troll
4/11/2013: 50gp, broken masterwork shortsword from troll
That's all I found, but I dont know if Im missing anything.
Can we assume by this point that Katya was able to identify the properties of the scale armor?

DM Carbide |

It's +1 scale.
ETA: By the way, Jacyn, congratulations on your fourth star!

There was also a mw handax found with the trapper's body, and there might have been some other stuff. I didn't get a chance to look that over last night.

DM Carbide |

Huh--looking back, I see that I didn't mention that Orlivanch's handax was masterwork. Well, it is. Other than that I think Jacyn got it all.
ETA: Have updated calendar. You reached the Levetons' on the 22nd of Desnus.

Jacyn Frestarn |

Thanks, lol. If everything goes like I think and hope it will, I should get my 5th star around the end of the year. November, maybe December.
I dont want the scale either. The only difference it would make for me is to reduce the AC penalty by 1, but I dont calculate that while mounted anyway. Havrin, if you want it, it's all yours, otherwise, I vote we sell it (assuming Katya and Adam dont want it, lol).
After looking up the cost adjustments for Cold Iron, I think I'll toss the longsword back into the pot and keep my regular one. It's an expensive item, and will be even more expensive to enchant later, so I'd rather split that with the party.
273gp in various forms
4x Studded Leather- 100gp
4x Shortsword- 40
4x Longbow- 300gp
pelts worth 20gp
+1 scale mail- 1200gp
mwk handaxe- 306gp
mwk shortsword (which Katya can presumably fix)- 310
mwk cold iron longsword- 730
good quality pewter drinking stein
silver ring
jade nude-elf plaque
scroll tube
273gp + 3006 in gear (1503gp when selling) + stuf that I dont know the price of.
If we sold everything I have a price next to, then that would give everyone 355.2gp.
Thoughts?

Bea |

Does anyone else get the feeling that we're way behind on WPL guidelines? Granted these are just guidelines, but after selling this loot I'd have 484gp, plus mundane breastplate and a masterwork greatsword. Not a single magical item yet.
At our level, the guidelines would put us somewhere between 3-6k gp. Is this just a problem with the way the module was written or are we actually missing all the loot that's out there?

DM Carbide |

AFAICT it's a problem with the module. There are a few things you haven't gotten to yet, and I still have to give values on some of the stuff you found in the tatzlwyrm den.

Adam Burlevogne |

I don't think the scale mail would fit me, and it would mess with my ability to use my acrobatics to get out of sticky situations. :P
I too have been missing the Precious (i.e. coin, gold, etc), but we've found some interesting things that could potentially be traded for more than they're worth to someone with a good Bluff/Diplomacy skill. :P

DM Carbide |

Hope you're doing better now, Havrin.

DM Carbide |

Everybody needs a goal, I guess. BTW, I was out for the evening at my son's last high school chorus concert. He took the prize for most improved senior and also directed the male vocal ensemble piece, so I'm being a proud dad at the moment.

DM Carbide |

Map and calendar updated.

DM Carbide |

You also have a paladin, and IIRC a possible healer in the wings.

Bea |

Until level 4 my healing will be pretty limited, and even then I'll be WAY behind what an actual cleric could do. Honestly I'm pretty sure Adam has more actual healing capacity just casting CLW than I do.
That said, two backup healers might make up for not having one main healer. Especially if we manage to find a wand of CLW somewhere.
As far as Oladon goes, I've still been trying to encourage her to come up with something but don't have anything yet. Oladon, if you're reading this and still haven't read the Player's Guide, go read it now!

IMO two backup healers can definitely cover for the lack of a main healer, but only outside combat. If things go badly during a fight and we need someone to heal up in the middle of the fight, two backup healers, even with CLW wands, wont do the trick.
I vote we find another player, whether it's Oladon or not.

If you know anyone else who'd be interested, post here or PM me.
ETA: I thought healing during combat was one of those things you weren't supposed to have to do; at least, that's what I get from some of the discussions about it on the boards :-).

Not normally, but it depends on the situation. For instance, if Havrin is the only effective party member in a combat situation cause he is able to overcome the DR of the opponent and the rest of us arent, then it makes more sense for someone to heal Havrin than to sit around being useless. :P

Haha, I love those arguments, like every encounter and group is going to be completely cut and dry. I agree that in general, there are more useful things that a cleric can be doing in combat than healing (because monsters can usually out-damage the healing capacity) but there's always an exception, and there are times when an emergency burst of healing is important.
