Just kidding.. I'm not suicidal, just pondering if anithing neat can be accomplished without getting myself killed. Maybee spent a point for an x-tra standard action to attack and then withdraw... I dunno.
Jemini of Lebeda |
You could use the hero point for a standard action, then use your second standard action to go into total defense and move where you feel it is advantageous. Odds of being hit are slim then.
But, I'm worried about the bandit leader; his + to attack is pretty high and he'll be able to assault us with ranged attacks if we do not shut him down soon.
Taisper Stozs |
Let Zander finish off the leader at range.
Berrin, you withdraw, drawing them in. Then Jemini and Tandlara pop in behind them. We'll have them surrounded, outnumbered, and outgunned. Try to give 10 feet to the leader so Zander can hit without firing into melee.
Hopefully in the next round Verik and I can nuke this guy in front of us and press in.
My $.02
Taisper Stozs |
errr.. Zander can't see him behind the gates.. If Tandlara can get through the flames she might be able to lay a hex or somthing but noone is getting near the guy for at least 2 rounds except possibly me.
Ach, my bad. Thought he was sufficiently elevated to have an angle.

Heck, I'll give it 30 mins. Then I really will go to bed.
Edit: For me to handle an 8hr limit I'd need to post upon waking, wich can get hektik if I snooze or if I wake the house before leaving (2little girls and a wife). Then I'd need to post straight after work, wich usually isn't a proble unless I have some erands. And the again before bed, wich shouldn't be a problem.
For it to work I'd have to post between 06:00-07:00, again between 15:00-16:00 and lastly around 22:00.
And thats barring anything coming up, (like going to bed early, working more hrs or beeing occupied otherwise) so I'll be frank and say it straight. I like to post as much as I can, but, no. I won't be up for an 8hr limit. 12 maybee, but preferably 24. Remember guys, it's just a game...
Edit v2.0: Thats all GMT btw. I'll set up my post in a spoiler for you guys before bed if we're still waiting.

That's pretty awesome. That reminds me of time when I was DMing and the party was fighting a White Dragon that was way over their CR with the intent of an NPC Silver Dragon that had been shapeshifted into their torchbearer saving them, but then the Barbarian hit and criticalled with both of his attacks using a greataxe and doing a completely ridiculous amount of damage and killing it. I had to bring in the Great Wyrm White Dragon that was the dragon he'd killed's mother to run the story event, heh.

I just finished putting together the experience chart for everyone. The roleplaying is currently edging out combat for experience purposes, with everyone earning between 140 and 220 experience from their posts and an estimated 156 from combat. I grant experience at what I consider "resting points", so you'll all likely get about 300-400 when you first receive experience.
I really want to commend you for your attack posts being well-written. Nothing ticks me off more than "Attack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14" as the entirety of the post. When I call for skill checks or saves, keep up that pattern. You're all doing a great job!
Jemini of Lebeda |
The other bandits have AC 13, 9 hp.
Verik seeing no swifter path swings his morningstar at the bandits head, but the cudgel does not connect as his foe duckls under his clumsy effort.
"Taisper give this arse's brains a taste of fresh air wouldn't you." He calls to his cousin, frustration at his own ineptitude heavy in his tone.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Color me surprised. I'm pretty sure Verik hit home. Did the dice numbers change after posting? (That happened in one of my posts in a different thread yesterday.)

It's the first time I've run into posts-as-experience in a pbp; and its a refreshing change of pace. How is the fire handled XP-wise? Since that is essentially a pretty high CR encounter in itself.
...and I do hope we'll get it under control. Nothing says "s$$@ty start" like a burnt out trading post.
With respect to unexpected killings. Once our good-aligned party (at level 6 or so) were faced with a high-level archon (including pegasus mount). The story was a bit complicated. Our party (of 3) suffered through a grueling session first, and weren't at all prepared for the archon (having barely survived the prior encounters).
So... low on resources and faced with impossible odds we did the only sensible thing for a party to do. No, not surrender (as was the GM's intention) - we assaulted! Initiatives worked out just right that I went second last (and the archon very last). My barbarian critted unexpectedly with a double-20; and since we played with massive-damage rules the GM over-confidently said "he can practically not fail" and rolled on the table. He rolled a natural 1 and everybody was stunned to see the archon slain in a single strike.
This vindicated the character, who had managed to miss 13(!!!) attacks in succession until then against mooks. Things that he could hit on rolling a 4 or better, if he would just roll that high.

Jemini appears through the flames as if Sarenrae herself was sending down an avenging angel to smite the wicked. Flames that would normally scorch her instead part as she passes through, following her as she runs to carry out the judgment of the cruel bandit leader.
Bandit Attack of Opportunity 1d20 ⇒ 5
The bandit sees Jemini as she passes, striking out vainly with his longsword at her. It whips through thin air, missing as easily as if she were wearing armor.
Jemini strikes down the leader of the bandits, driving her blade deep into his body. It erupts in flames, immolated completely in the flash of an eye, leaving behind only his armor and scorched body
+1
This = cool!

I have a RL character in Curse of the Crimson Throne who cannot roll to save his life. (Literally, when faced with Circle of Death.) For instance, he missed a prone opponent with a True Strike attack. His build is a crit-based Eldritch Knight (now Magus) who crits 15-20.
He has crit one time, on the very first encounter against the guard dog. Thought it was a good omen at the time.
He has not crit since.
We are level 9.
Jemini of Lebeda |
Have you considered to change the dice you use for that character? :)
In the real-life Kingmaker that we're playing, our Field-Marshall (the cavalier) consistently fails the stability checks. We have a big enough + to make the roll trivial, but against all odds he rolls a "1" (auto fail). It's become a running joke - as we are also level 9 already. Out of 50 stability checks he managed to roll a "1" 20 times. Fortunately our economy and building policy means that the little bit of unrest generated is eliminated within that turn or the next.
Mind you, his attacks are phenomenal.

Hang on do we have an AC for the regular bandits? I had assumed 13 was a miss, but Taisper appears to be assuming a hit.
Ah I see AC 13 9 hp I'll edit Verik's post to a hit - albeit a fairly mild one. Grr, I hate the editing time limit on this site.
Yeah, between you and I he's just about on the mortician's slab.

Sweet. I'm also pretty super pumped about how awesome everyone's posts are. Keep up the great work all!
+1 and ditto. I'm rather intimidated by all the awesome writing going on around me, it's a super fun challenge trying to keep up! :-D

+1, it's growing into an awsome story from lvl 1 up!

It would depend on how freely hero points are acquired. I'm seriously considering taking on Hero's Fortune at level 3 and Blood of Heroes at level 5 - but even so; the ability to two times a level do something special seems not particularly strong.
...as a side note - Jemini is unusually offensive minded in this encounter - I figured with an AC of 8 the only real defense is hitting first.
