Amal stepped forward as both his blades whirl free of their scabbards and with an amazing surge of speed brought them to bare against the animated coffin. His first strike glancing off the stone exterior of the sarcophagus however his second strike bit into the stonework as he found its target. However as he drew the blade away it didn't even leave a scratch in the stone casket the hardness of the stone shrugging off the blow as if it never was.
Malik grabbed his crossbow and quickly loaded a bolt and let it fly toward the stone sarcophagus, trying to avoid his partners in melee as well as his companion Saedue who was in front of him. His crossbow bolt missing the target and smashing off the door beyond as the bolt shatters.
Amal attack did not get by hardness. Ineffective.
Malik minus four to attack for firing into Melee.
Malik minus two to attack for target having softcover provided by Saedue.
Malik minus one bolt 17 remaining
Dumah has the Grappled Condition:
A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.

Saedue moves out toward the coffin and draws her longsword. Taking up a position beside Amal and within reach of the animated coffin. H6
Bjoern meanwhile takes his flail in both hands and hammers it down onto the coffin lid. The light flail slamming hard upon the coffin and causing a crack to form across its surface as chips of stone are knocked away with the mighty blow.
Inside the coffin Dumah pulls his light hammer from his bandolier and starts striking at the coffin. Dumah found it hard to miss his target from the inside of the casket but he also found that the coffin resisted the blows of the hammer quite well as he only made minor chips in the stone as he struck.
Bjoern attack roll modification Considering you are power attacking with two hands then it would be +3 to hit and +6 damage, not +7 (=+4 for 1.5 strength and +2 Power Attack)
Coffin minus 9 hitpoints from Bjoern
Coffin minus 1 hitpoint from Dumah
Dumah is unsure which square he is in because he is inside the coffin.

Amal |
Amal grunted as his weapons seemed to hardly register on the coffin turning to Saedue " I can see that, but I'm barely scratching this thing.. I'll try and find a weak point next time. Everything has at least one. " turning back to the coffin not taking his eyes off the being for too long.
Saedue Menura |
I'd like to try something different: could a disable device check be useful against this kind of animated object, to break whatever pieces are holding the coffin closed? i'm thinking at using my sword as a lever, and Bjoern hitting it with his flail. Or could some acid damage the stone enough, at the risk of hitting Dumah too?
bwatford |
Disable Device would not work since their is not a mechanism holding the door closed. It is the animated object itself holding the door closed. The object has a hardness of 5 so I doubt most acid attacks would do little to get by it. The damage to get out is better delivered from the inside if Dumah can muster the damage needed to get it to either spit him out or break out on his own. The best the group can do is try to cause as much damage as possible to the casket to weaken its integrity.

I have pretty much no way of helping with this fight. Constructs and low level clerics don't mix well.
Anset raises his hand and invokes the gods of the temple they were exploring.
"Lord Anubis, hear me. It is not yet time for this one's judgement. Bless us with your patience and deliver us that we may prove our worth before our time is due."

Amal breathes in and anticipates when the coffin will strike. When it attacks Saedue, he leaps to its side and tumbles along the ground, springing into a backflip upon the other side of the creature. Amal leaps to the side of the animated casket and tumbles along the ground, springing into a back-flip upon the other side of the creature. He steadies his blade towards the crack Bjoern created, waiting for Bjoern to follow his lead before stabbing into the coffin simultaneously.
Feeling quite useless against a construct, Malik simply steps up five feet and shoots another crossbow bolt against it, and watches it sail over everyone head and hit the back door as it shatters.

Bjoern shifts to the right to flak with Amal and brings his flail down against the coffin once again. This time however it does not penetrate the stone and the blow simply glances off.
Amal seeing that Bjoern is in position now strikes with his shortsword, trying to take advantage into the crack that Bjoern made earlier. The small sword finds the crack as Amal slashes down and it chips away a small piece of stone widening the crack if ever so slightly.

Anset moves up next to Bjoern and tries to get the thing's attention with his spear to open up hit for Bjorn. Which is successfull.

Malik quickly goes over the list of spells he has available to him, and realizes that when he gets the opportunity to learn a new spell, it would be good to learn one that can damage constructs, as they are probably common in these ancient tombs.
When Bjoern asked for aid, Malik is glad that Anset is distracting the creature, as he was not going to go next to it.
All he can do for now is shoot another crossbow bolt at the construct and this time he hits it quite well.

Round 3 Results (Final)
A spring of hope from his first penetrating strike, Amal attempts to strike the same area repeatedly. His first strike again nicking at the size of the crack as more stone breaks free. His second strike hits the mark but the stone resist being broken any further.
Malik fires another crossbow bolt and this time his aim is dead on and the bolt strikes the coffin squarely, unfortunately as the bolt strikes it shatters and shows no damage to the coffin from the blow.
Saedue lowers her sword, trying to smash the sarcophagus, but her strike is too wild, and she only manages to unbalance herself.
With a mighty swing of his flail Bjoern hammers away another at the coffin as large chunks of it now go flying in all directions. The lid and sides now show numerous cracks and chunks missing but it still holds Dumah firmly inside.
Dumah strikes again, sweating profusely as the air seems less nourishing. His blow again just glancing off the inside of the lid.Being out of air Dumah sucks in all the tiny bit of air that is remaining and holds it in hoping it will last.
Anset again aids Bjoern with his attack, flailing his spear around wildly to get the creatures attention.
The coffin containing Dumah again spins into the air twirling, loose stone swirling off of it from the damage it has received, it then slams down toward Bjoern. Slamming hard against the ranger's body but Bjoern's armor holds off the damage as he breaks free of the slam and the coffin thumps to the ground once again..

Bjoern continues to hammer the coffin.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Amal |
Bjoern Ghostbear |
No You are right, makes less sense. Will stay with flail. Somehow I had 1d6 for heavy spiked shield in mind. I will change the charactersheet back. I will stay flail so just 1d8+7 damage and I rolled a 2 so 9 damage
bwatford |
Also for everyone's information, you could have retrieved your shield (Move Action that provokes), but you could ready it as part of the move as a free action as long as you have a base attack bonus of at least +1, So given that information you could have switched and attacked with it. But it would have provoked and you would have had to drop the flail.
You also started combat with your shield on your back and your sunrod in your off hand I believe, but I figured you dropped it when you started two handing the thing.
Amal |
See that is confusing, normally, drawing a weapon does not provoke. placing one back in (sheathing/switching) however DOES provoke. And a move action is a separate entity from actual movement (Which I believe is what your referencing with the free action ready of the shield). Regardless he would have had to drop the flail. If we however CAN do as you suggested in your game, I'll have to remember that for later.
