Saedue joins the fight and tries to hit the creature with her sword, her beautiful, carefully balanced sword buries itself nearly up to the hilt in the sand creature but pulling it free she noticed it did little damage. Bjoern takes his shield in booth hands and slams it again with full force at the beast. The beast having been distracted by Saedue's attack takes the full impact of Bjoern's shield and shatters into a spray of sand. Anset leans over and places a healing hand onto Bjoern's wound, his hand glows with a yellow arcane light as the positive energy flows forth. With a sigh Bjoern feels the healing energy flowing through him.

"Are you certain you are alright to continue on Amal? You took a painful hit there. Still... I do agree, it is best to get out of this stairway in case this creature's death could bring more of them." Malik sweeps his eyes over the party making sure everyone else is alright as he speaks to Amal, before adressing everyone with his agreement to move on.
Saedue Menura |
I'm still wondering what this creature was... Does anyone got a clue?Hope it can't come back from Pharasma's realm!
Saedue kneels, and takes and handful of sand
Could it be useful for my alchemical expériences?
If anyone is wounded I can offer a potion of Healing. I will then use the empty vial to keep some of the sand.
Anset Ossari |
"You can thank me by retreating towards me when you are injured." Anset says dryly. It was hard to tell if the reserved young preist was teasing the big man or not.
"Gather close."
Anset motioned the group closer. His glowing holy symbol pulsed once, light washing out like an expanding bubble.

Anset motioned the group closer. His glowing holy symbol pulsed once, light washing out like an expanding bubble encompassing all that stood on the stairs, their injuries closing up and their health returning. Meanwhile Saedue collected some of the sand from the floor and stored it with her alchemical supplies in preparation to move on.

The group gathers in position as Dumah and Bjoern push open the door with the golden scarab engraved upon it. A tapestry hangs from a frame against the south wall of this large chamber; it depicts an otherworldly vista where the souls of the dead, shepherded by strange beings, enter an ethereal river ambling through space toward a landscape dominated by an impossibly tall spire. Columns sculpted in the shape of Osirian warriors wielding khopeshes stand in all four corners of the room. Torch holders are in place on each column. The floor is tiled in a white spiral pattern on a black background, and this spiral pattern is repeated on the stone double doors to the north, east, and west.

"What an interesting room." Malik's voice falls to a whisper unknowningly.
Malik takes a few steps forward to stare into the strange room. Surely there is magic afoot in here! He begins to search for signs of magic.
Can I see enough of the room if I stand at F8 behind Bjoern? If so, Malik casts detect magic after advancing to F8, otherwise he waits for a moment in which he can see more of the room to cast it.
Saedue Menura |
Pointing to the spirals everywhere, Saedue says nervously
it's the symbol of Pharasma, isn't it, Anset? Please, take some time before entering the room. I don't want to get trapped, or worse.Let's see if we can get some clues about the room. And I don't trust the statues either!

Anset studies the room from the doorway.
Dumah |
Not liking the look of those statues, Dumah swaps out his axe for his pick. Unless one of the scouts/trapfinders tells him not to, Dumah will step into the room to get a better look at one of the statues.
Perception 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18. He is checking out the statue at D11.
Final position, D10 via D9

Malik scans the room with his magical detection but gets a hit off of nothing, if magic was once contained in this room it is long gone. It was considerably cooler in the lower section of the tomb than on the surface. It was actually a little chilly down here with the attire of the group. 62 degrees Though perhaps that was not a good thing. Death was cold, as cold as sand that had gone untouched by the sun for thousands of years. Everything in the room was older than all of the gathered adventuring group combined, and everything seemed to be imbued with a chilly aura. The kind that came from dealing with the afterlife, an austerity that existed in museums and private collections. It almost seemed like that if they touched anything, a curator would appear and angrily berate them for disturbing the silence and peace.
Anset and the rest of the group recognized the Pharasma sybol that covered the floor and all the doors. "This room serves as a transition from the outer tomb chambers to Akhentepi’s final resting place." Anset told the rest of the group. It was not knowledge that told him this but the obvious, being a man of faith he had seen similar rooms before. Dumah meanwhile was the first to step foot into the room, probably the first in thousands of years. He took up a position by one of the carved columns of the warriors in the corner. The warriors seem to be posed toward attacking toward the center of the room as if fending off some unseen force. The detail work was amazingingly thorough right down to the pouches on their belts. Dumah held his pick in hand ready for one to spring to life but the column just stood there as it had been for ages.

Warily, Saedue looks at the doors at the entrance of the room, checking it lenghtily for any trap. She seems to fear the doors with close behind them.

Saedue checks the entrance doors like one would check a dog for ticks. Going over every inch of the doors, the outside part of the doors having the golden scarab engraved upon it and the inside of the doors having the spiral symbol of Pharasma painted on it's surface. But at last she could fine no sign of anything out of the ordinary. No runic symbols, or tripwires or anything that would give the least hint as to a trap, the doors didn't even have any kind of locking mechanism built into them.
Bjoern moved out toward the center of the room, looking at both the north and west set of doors, they were identical, both a double set, both painted to match the floor, in fact from his perspective he could see not one ounce of difference in either set of doors. Then he noticed it. A keyhole was set into each set, the other doors so far in the tomb had no locks of any kind upon them, but the doors that led out of this room were both locked.

Malik Adraza |
How disappointing that this room seems to be so mundane. "Locked huh? Amal, would you kindly attempt to open one of these doors for us?" Malik runs a hand through his hair as he speaks and enters the room, eager to move on.

Amal moves over to the western doors pulls his tools from his pack and begins to select the correct tools for the job. He then begins to probe around inside the lock but his first few tries are unsuccessful. The locks were simple yet precise. After spending a couple minutes and a few grunts of aggravation the lock finally clicks out of place. The west door was ready to be opened.
Amal took 20 on disable device.

When Amal finishes his work, Dumah will move over to the door. As he turns from the statue, he spins back around with weapon raised as though he intended to strike. Assuming the statue doesn't animate and engage him, Dumah slowly turns away and takes Amal's place at the door. He puts his hammer away so he has a free hand to open the door. When Bjoern is ready, he opens it.
Ends in A9, assuming Amal relinquishes the spot when he's done

Anset follows Saedue to take position near the statue and waits for the door to open.

Saedue moves into the room and inspects one of the statues for any value, the statues while intricate are carved directly into the columns supporting the room and are made out of the same sandstone as the tomb. Even if there was someway to break the columns free the effort would far out way any value they might bring.
Dumah was still unsure if the statues were going to spring to life at any moment, he finally moved on to Bjoern and opened the next door, still keeping an eye on the statue in the corner.
This short hallway narrows sharply to the west, descending to set of stairs that abruptly ends at a rough rock wall. The end wall is partially collapsed and small holes and burrowed tunnels riddle what remains of the passage’s walls.

Saedue post herself near the west door, looking suspiciously in case of anything coming through the rubble and/or the holes in the wall, "I don't like the look of it..." she says to the rest of the group. Amal nods to the group, making his way to the other door. He once again roles out his thieves tools and begins to pick the lock. The lock is almost identical to the other one and after a couple of minutes Amal announces that the lock has been breached. Dumah steps behind Amal as he works. When he is done, he trades places with Amal and announces that he is ready to open the door. Bjoern comes over and takes his place beside Dumah and acknowledges that he is ready to proceed. With the final word given, the door is opened.
Pearing past the now open doors you see more stairs leading down for about another ten feet and end at yet another set of double stone doors, the doors at the bottom of the steps are unadorned and made of smooth sandstone. Even cooler air can be felt coming from below.
Air temperature at the bottom of the steps is 5 degrees cooler so it would be 62 degrees. 67 where you are now and currently 97 outside. If you are wearing a hot weather outfit and no armor then it is quite chilly.

Malik stares into the new hall blankly, before proposing his conundrum to the group, "The question remains, do we want to turn our backs on the other hall before inspecting it and proceed through here? Danger could lurk behind us if we do. However, I don't deny that the other room, specifically those tunnels make me feel uneasy and perhaps this would be the best course. Opinions?"

"I would prefer to explore one level at a time."

Bjoern closes the doors and takes out a length of rope to secure them, however with the way the handles are just basically depressions in the stonework themselves he didn't find a way that he could use the rope to secure them. Maybe if we just have Amal reengage the lock then that would work better he thought to himself while putting the rope away.
